Preferred Solution: Make windows 7 as first option while booting

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How did you set up the dual boot? If you used EasyBCD or similar in Windows 7 then the same should be able to change the default. If you used grub (more normal) in Ubuntu see an article such as this How do I change the GRUB boot order?.

I have a checkbox that when checked it makes an Option Group visible. When the Option Group opens (I've tried both check boxes and Option Buttons) but they both have NO checked off when the Option Group opens. I have tried playing with the default for the Option Group Frame. I have tried setting it up to reset to null when the Option Group opens.

From everything that i am reading there is only a yes or no option, there is no null option. How do I make neither button or checkmark checked? I want both boxes or circles left blank until chosen.

Hello, I've been having a problem when booting my computer today. When it gets past POST and loads operating systems (Like if I were to dual boot linux and 7) it shows windows 7 twice. At first, it was because I was installing windows to my new SSD, and left the old install on my HDD, which I planned to format and use as data storage after everything was done. I tried to delete it from my HDD, but it wouldn't let me while in windows, so I used my DVD and formatted my HDD with that, and left my SSD as active partition with boot. Soon as I restarted the computer it said something like "Bootmgr missing press ctrl+alt+delete to restart" I did that, and used my disc again to repair it but now its back to having 2 different drives with both active on their list in disk management, and two windows 7 options at boot start.
(Disk 1 is my SSD and Disk 0 is my HDD)

What I want to know is, how can I delete system reserve from my HDD and put it on my SSD without having two windows 7 options (once again I formatted the HDD so it shouldn't even have windows on it.) and put the crash dump option on to the HDD. Also why both drives are showing up as active. Thanks in advance.

A:Double windows 7 option when booting.

You didn`t unplug disk 0 during the new install did you ?

Why do you want to put the SR partition on C ? C looks fine.

Yesterday I began the processing of migrating my C: drive contents to a newer larger SSD. i used Clonezilla to copy to the new hard drive. I thought everything had gone OK but it didn't (of course) . The new hard drive was recognized as the C: drive; the old hard drive was recognized, but only in Disc Manager and Windows would not boot unless i booted from the old SSD. Through a process of pretty much trial and error, I am now at the point where both drives are recognized. The new drive is C: and the old drive is now visible in Explorer as drive I. The old drive still has all it's original contents including Windows and needs to be reformatted (it's more than 90% full). The computer is booting from the C: drive as it should.

The only quirky thing which is happening now is that when I boot the computer, I'm given a choice of loading Windows Home Premium or Windows Home Premium (Recovered). If I do nothing the computer loads the former after 30 seconds...all is well.

Any idea why the "recovered" option is there, and how do i get rid of it?

A:given option of booting to Windows Home Premium OR Recovered version

Well its there bcause windows automatically repaired ur computer.. try which entry is working n remove the other one using easybcd software.. but make sure the menu entry ur choosing at boot is working fine

Hi
You know when you right click on a file in [my documents]
and choose send to
Well when I do it , I see two options/locations to send the file to
1-share to web upload folder (from hp that was part of my scanner software and its mostly for photos I think )
the other is 2- A:\ floppy ( is there an easy way to add a few more options on [send to] I would like to send shortcuts/ copies of files to the desktop and my documents folder in order to put them into folders
Yes I know there other other ways but I would like to utilize the send to option so it has some utility , right now its useless .
I think I remember in windows 98 I was able to right click on a file and choose send to and was able send it to my documents as a second copy there or to my desktop as a shortcut

Greetings all,

I have been doing alot of research on this forum the last couple of months and it has come in very handy as i get used to Windows 8 - which i might add, it's beginning to 'grow' on me.

My first installation on my 2009 Compaq Presario Duo-Core rig went beautifully - no problems whatsoever.

So, i thought, what the heck, let's see what happens when i run the Upgrade Assistant on my 2005 Dell Latitude D510. Assistant didn't seem to give any impression that my system was incompatible with Win8, so i went ahead and bought another copy to install.

Problem is, it went through the download, then the verification of the download and gave me an 'access denied' error. I tried it again with the same result. Next i tried the link from the invoice that said if you need to download Windows 8, click here. So i did. Long story short, it downloaded, verified OK then left me two options: Install Now or Install Later from Desktop. Hmmm...where's the option to created the DVD??? This was last night, it was late so i left it to today to install. Everything went well and my laptop, which was running WinXP Pro is now running Win8.

But...i'm still left in the dark as to how to get the .iso file to create a disk should i ever need it again. I need you gent/ladies to help me find it either on my hard drive somewhere (not in download file) The installer did not ask me for my key and there was a Windows.old file which i tried to delete, most of which i was successful but th... I tried to Edit the BOOT.INI but I only see XP I don?t see any referents of vista, and I cannot use BCDEDIT.exe because I have XP so what should I do?

Hello deutschnaftula

Start>Run and type msconfig. On the boot.ini tab, click "Check all boot paths".

That should remove the dual boot option for you.

The only visible option in the boot menu is the Notebook Hard Drive and nothing else.

This problem prevents me from booting a Linux installation that is required for a class.

Could anyone provide a solution for me; or at the very least help me discover the problem?

Thanks in advance; any useful information is appreciated.

I want it to MOVE the files there. I know I can just select Move to but then I have to select the folder. tedious. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Ps. Don't mention the shift key as I hate all keyboards!

A:I want to make a send to option that will MOVE to specified library

This may be of use:

Context Menu - Add Copy To Folder and Move To Folder

Just to be clear, the Libraries are basically a 'shortcut' to the specified folder. I.E., My Pictures, so you will never have a file only in the Pictures Library, it will also be (by necessity) in the My Pictures folder.

Hello all!
For months, my pc had no issue booting at the 230 option on my PSU. However, a few days ago I powered it down and it wouldn?t turn back on until I had switched it to 115. This wouldn?t be an issue, except now my USB microphone doesn?t work anymore because it draws too much power. Whenever I try to boot with 230 now, my pc goes on this endless cycle of trying to startup, and the fans speed up and slow down over and over and over again. It?s so annoying!

Hello everyone,

I created a login password for my XP computer. There are no other accounts on the computer. When creating the password I selected the option to "make files private".

1. If something were to happen to the OS or hard drive and I needed to used a bootable CD/DVD to get the files off the hard drive, would the fact that I selected the make files private option prevent me from doing this ?

2. If I login and back up the files to a disk or external hard drive, would I have access to them on another computer and would I be able to modify them if needed ?

3. How can I change the "make files private" option back to un-private ? I tried going to "my computer" then right click on the user account documents folder, select properties, then "sharing" but I cannot un-check the "make files private" box because it is greyed out. If I remove the login password, will this remvove the "make files private option as well ? I can then just re-select the password and not choose the option to make the files private again.

If there are not other accounts on the computer are there any advantages to making the files private ? Does this make the computer more secure if somone tried to bypass the OS and obtain files with a bootable disk ? What are the pros and cons of making the files private ?

Thanks,
John

A:XP Login password & make files private option

Making files "private" changes the NTFS permissions on the files. They are still easily accessible from any Linux-based boot CD and from a Windows one once the permissions are changed.

The option is used primarily to prevent other accounts on the same machine from accessing the files. With a single account, the result is null, either way.

I know of no way to change it back short of changing the permissions. That could be risky if done incorrectly (and any files in use could be excluded, leading to more complications), so since there is really no effect, I'd leave it alone, if I were you.

I've re-installed Windows using an OEM boot CD, and now I cannot get it to boot from the HDD. I have set the prioroty in the BIOS to HDD/CD/Floppy and Windows just gets stuck in a loop when trying to start ("loading personal settings" > "logging off" > "loading personal settings" etc.). It boots fine from the CD if I change the BIOS priority to CD/HDD/Floppy.

I cannot run the recovery program from the CD as it goes straight into the WinXP installation (I'd imagine due to being an OEM CD).

I had to re-install windows due to a virus attack, which I believe must have changed something in the boot registry. Any ideas please?

3. Click the button for "Use recovery tools".

We need to know what drive letter has been assigned the DVD drive to access the folder.

Code:
Type: diskpart

type: list volume
and press Enter
In this screen shot, the 7 DVD is letter: G

I've got used to reading English on my computer, to the point where I prefer it over my native language in most situations. So it's annoying how many websites and programs detect my country and set language accordingly. While with programs it's not really that much of a concern, considering I just need to pay some attention during installation, the websites are more annoying.

So my question is rather simple, solution might not be. Is it possible to force me to be identified as an English computer?

Exactly how is this detected by the websites in general?

My OS language is English, as is my browser language on both IE and Opera, are many of these sites using IP to detect languages? I suppose in that case it would be hard to fix without using proxies which doesn't really sound worthwhile...

Just wondering in case there is some simple solution I have yet to discover, possibly browser setting? Or different browser all together.

Thanks in advance.

A:Can I make default langauge option for sites not my native language?

Not sure whether this would help, but if you navigate to Internet Explorer>Internet Options>General Tab>Appearance Section>Languages, you can add a website language from there.

Are you referring to the Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI)? I have never heard of HCAI as an acrnoym in computer terms. If you want to change from a RAID (dynamic) to basic disk it will require formatting the drives.

See the following article for some information;

Hello people, I have noticed a weird issue with a certain USB device. It's a dongle for my Speedlink Gamepad and whenever that is connected, I can boot normally as long as I have quick boot enabled. However when I reboot the system, try to enter the bios or boot without quick boot enabled, the system does not boot up neither does it show the boot splash screen. The fan goes crazy and that state keeps on going forever. When I disconnect that USB dongle and hard reset the laptop everything works as it should. I have updated my bios already to the latest version but nothing has changed. I can of course just disconnect the USB dongle but this sounds more like a serious problem.  Best regards, szt666

I don't think you can stop users from making all changes. However if the account that they are using is a standard user account then it will ask for a administrator password when ever the UAC prompt comes up for system changes and installs.

Maybe you could take a drive image of the computer when it is in the state that you want it, then restore it when needed

After this whenever I switch on the computer, a message come up, saying that a required device cannot be found and windows is to be repaired. The only way in which I can start windows is to go to bios, select the boot options and then select boot from notebook hard drive.

Hopefully there's an answer out there. I'm a long time Firefox user currently using Version 14.0.1 on a PC with W7 64bit.
Since taking the upgrade to version 14, I no longer have the option to pin the shortcut to the task bar of start menu but have to be content with the shortcut on the desktop. When right clicking on the shortcut, I no longer see the traditional option of where to pin the shortcut. I've gone back as far as Version 10.0 but the option is no longer there either.

Any ideas on what's happened or how to solve this mystery?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 with Windows Vista I am trying to do a factory image but the repair your computer is missing from the F8 advanced boot options menu.
Can anyone tell me how to get this back on the list Thanks in advance

A:advanced boot option menu missing option

if your just trying to do a "factory reset" try powering on then press the ctrl key and the f11 key at the same time (at the dell logo), should get you a pc restore screen, follow the instructions...good luckps, if you have a manual, the key configuration may be different...

The Troubleshoot icon that should be under the 'Advanced Startup' Option is missing. System is a new Dell Latitude 10 ST2 Tablet running Windows 8. Have access to 9 other identical tablets, all configured the same and they all have the Troubleshoot Option. Have tried multiple methods of getting to "Advanced Startup" display (including Safe mode, 'shutdown /r /o', etc.), but all result in only having the 'Continue', 'Use a Device', and 'Turn Off your PC' options - No Troubleshoot. Other than missing this icon, system is working fine. Shy of wiping the disk and starting over, any suggestions? Thanks!

A:The 'folder Option' In The Tools Option Dissappear!

Are you comfortable with making edits in the registry? Back up your registry FIRST!
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

the "NoFolderOptions" should have a value of =dword:00000000

My guess is yours has a value of =dword:00000001

Hello everyone. I have been having an ongoing problem with my computer and I have asked for advice many times, and haven't really gotten any answers. Basically the problem is simple. When I click on a link in firefox, firefox opens it in a new window. This isn't right, it should open in the same tab. This also happens just by pressing the back button. This problem also effects the desktop. When I will select a single program, a cluster of programs around it get selected as well. Today this problem happened again, but I noticed something different about it. When I went to restart my computer (it generally works normally after that) I saw that my usual options of "Standby" "Turn Off" and "Restart" were replaced with "Hibernate" "Turn Off" and "Restart." I'm not sure what it means or if the problem is serious, but it is quite frustrating so if anyone can help shed some light on the issue, please do!

Oh and I was told before that my problem could be that my control key is stuck, but I have cleaned the key and it has been unstuck.

Hello ragavendrang.

I would suggest that after you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media you use Step One of this tutorial at the link below to do a wipe (secure erase) to the entire Hard Disk Drive, running this then using the outline in Step Two #2 to create and format a single 100GB partition using diskpart will get you a clean all and a chkdsk /r for the best possible space to install Windows to.

   Information

After you have made backups of everything you care to save and you want to do a real wipe "clean all" to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old Windows drivers, giving you the best possible space to install Windows 7 to; it goes hand-in-hand with a clean install.
