Q: HP Spectre X360 wifi does not connect unless I restart my Mo...

So I have had this HP Spectre for about a year now and it does not connect to my home internet unless I restart the modem. I restart the modem and it will work for a while. If i ever turn my laptop off or sometimes even close the laptop the internet will not connect and I will have to go unplug and replug the modem. This is extremely frustrating especially because of how expensive this thing was. Samsung Galaxy, siblings mac's, siblings iphones, even my Xbox One all connect to the internet but it is only this computer that always has a problem. I moved away for a couple months and at the house I was staying at my laptop connected to the internet with no such problems. I'm kind of assuming it's some kind of problem with this laptops adapter and my internet but that makes no sense because my internet is fine with all of my other devices. I have the latest LAN driver installed as well. This is a rather annoying problem and any insight would be much appreciated.

My Spectre x360 will not connect to my home network after I have restarted it. The connection will work if I power the machine down, and then turn it on. Or, if I restart it, I have to close the lid (enter sleep mode) and then open it again to connect to my network. I have tried installing the updated drivers provided by HP as well as Intel for the wireless card, but neither of them solved the issue. The SSID for my home network is not broadcasted, and I have the option selected to connect to the network even if the name is not being broadcast. I've also tried unchecking the setting to allow the network adapter to be turned off to to save save power, as well as unchecking fast startup, which both did not work.

I can connect reliably with my two smasung TV's, My HP work computer, My 6 year old Lenovo, and My Ipad to my home wifi.But with my new: HP Spectre x360 Convertible I have to get the command prompt up and put in: ipconfig /renew twice before it will connect.I wish I had done my homework and taken the advice of my co-workers and stayed away from HP laptops.

I connected the HDMI port of my HP Spectre X360 convertible to my 27-a040se all in one and neither computer will detect the other.  In the past it has been plug in the HDMI and it connects.  Is there something else that I need to do?

Have just purchased new spectre x360 7th gen and cannot get past Network connection part as keeps saying slow connection.Shows only a BACK button !This takes me back to visible wifi connections but each time I try my own it comes back slow yet others go straight to their security key....of which I do not have access.I am in hotel at present so it does require to input room number & code.But I need access asap as old computer faulty.Therefore cannot even get into computer to repair or analyse problem etc

Hey everybody, I have a problem with my HP Spectre x360 (13-4190nd) that I bought this January. The laptop has an issue with connecting to devices true the usb ports or hdmi (it doesn't transfer the sound to the external screen). It doesn't connect to the Samsung Galaxy SII, S6, S7, S7 edge, Iphone 4 or the Go Pro 4 Silver. It does charge the device that is connected to the laptop, but it doesn't 'recognize' it and I can't see the stuff that's on the device. I did install some Samsung software (usb drivers from the Samsung site) a couple of weeks ago and then it finally connected to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the go pro. But when I tried to connected the devices again a couple of days ago it didn't work anymore and also after reinstalling the software it still didn't work. Does anybody know what can be the problem? Is this a common issue for this laptop or what software can I install to make sure it recognizes the devices?  Kind regards, Michelle

I just purchased an HP Spectre x360 and I am trying to record some videos using a teleprompter.  There is no VGA connector, and there is no HDMI connector.  I have only a USB3 connector on the left side and two USB-C connectors on the right side.  There are no other connectors.  Is there another way to connect my monitor to my teleprompter using Bluetooth or wifi oran adapter cable from USB-C to connect via HDMI or VGA?  I am on a deadline and would appreciate some help.

Bought two Spectre x360 replacing two Windows 7 machines.  Bus powered USB devices do not work with the Spectre X360.  They connect/disconnect every 5-30 seconds.  The devices worked without issue on multiple Windows 7 machines, but will not work on either Spectre X360.  Devices are: USB powered hard drive (USB 3.0), and a software key fob (USB 2.0).  The only way I could get the devices to stay connected to either Spectre X360 is to first connect a powered USB 3.0 hub, and have the USB devices connected to the hub. Here is what I tried without success:1. The BIOS and all drivers are up to date.2. In Device Manager for USB Root Hub (xHCI), I turned off "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under the Power Management Tab.3. Disbled "USB selective suspend settings" in the "Change advanced power settings" of the "Power Options" / "Change plan settings".4. Unchecked the "Turn on fast startup" in the "Choose what the power buttons do" of the Power Options control panel. This ultra-portable computer is unusable if I must drag along an externally powered USB hub, power plug, and cables to connect my USB devices. Again, all the USB devices work OK on multiple Windows 7 PCs, and do not work on two different Spectre X360.  It appears the Spectre X360 does not supply enough USB power to keep the devices running, they connect and disconnect every 5-30 seconds. Any help woul... I'm suffering exactly the same issue. I did all the suggested power management checks and my driver are up to date, nevertheless the issue is still there.USB ports are not usable without a powered USB hub and this is really a showstopper in my work. Also I spent a lot of time on this issue and I also lost some work.Can I exepct a solution or do I need to look for another laptop?Thank You.

Before throwing this horrible device into the street, I thought I would try this forum. Initially my wifi worked OK, but the signal was weak. This week, it connects but says "no internet, secured" I have tried all the usual, reboot pc and wifi box, spent hour switrh BT broadband help desk, switched wifi boxs, tried hotspots off my phone. I have also used three other PCs in exactly the same posution without problems. My Spectre XT notebook will not connect to wifi.i had a similar issue when i updated to windows 10 where i had to reinstall the wlan driver, though my memory is hazy on the specifics.currently, when i search for wifi, the indiacator says - 'not conected, no connections are available.' switching on and off the router does nto work, but it still connects to the net via ethernet cable. in the device manager, the list of network adapters is2x bluetooth devcice,intel centrino advanced - N-6235realtek family controllerthen 8x variations of WAN miniport. do i need to find a new WLAN driver? what other solutions do people know of?any help is appreciated.thanks!

Just bought new Spectre Notebook, tried to connect to home wifi, entered security code (it's my 10-digit phone number) and it won't connect, says, "Can't connect to this network." I'm typing this now on the old computer connected to the network. Tried everything suggested, including reinstalling the driver, restarting computer, etc.

Within past week my son's x360 laptop started failing to connect to all Wifi networks, open or encrypted.  Wifi is transmitting because I turned on Wifi hotspot on my phone and it was detected.  Can't restore because he had protection turned off to save SSD space.  Last connection was probably about 4/22/17 when MS KB 3150513 was installed.  So far I have tried to following: Downloaded updated drivers to flash drive and installed - No ChangeDownloaded Intel Drivers for AC7265 and installed - No ChangeUninstalled Device let drivers re-install - No changeFlashed Bios Update from Flash Drive - No Change Followed HP Wireless networking troubleshooting guide to completion - No Change (Only variance was where after series of netsh commands was only supposed to have Receive Side Scaling Enabled and I had TCP Fast Open also enabled. Windows network troubleshooter reports that there is a driver issue that it can't fix. I beat my head on the wall - No Change Disabled Firewall to verify it wasn't blocking connection - No Change Any ideas please, he is a college student and I'm his tech support but this one has me baffled. Thanks in advance.Neil

I unboxed a new HP Pavilion x360 today and it refuses to connect to either of my wifi networks. It can see the SSIDs of the networks (both 2.4 and 5 GHz) in the wifi network list, but the laptop fails to connect to any of them. I have two wireless networks (both running on Netgear equipment), both of which have been working without a problem for several years. Each network has multiple laptops and phones connected at any given time. The main wifi unit is acting as a DHCP server for the network, and the second wifi unit is simply there to extend range, so most of its features are turned off and it's just running in Wireless AP mode. Both wifi points are using WPA2-PSK [AES] for their pass phrase. To rule out any authentication issues, I tried turning off access control and set the networks to 'open' (no password), but still no luck connecting. Meanwhile, I can sucessfully connect to both networks with my phone and various other laptops (eg an older HP Pavilion and a Microsoft Surface Pro 2) Every connection attempt gives the message "Verifying and connecting ...." and after 30 seconds or so, it says "Cannot connect to this network" I even tried re-enabling WPS so I could use the "push button to connect" feature on the wifi station. As soon as I pushed the button, the laptop recognised the WPS connection attempt, but after a few seconds it failed, and gave a message saying WPS had failed and I would have to manually type in the pass phrase. I'm pre... I have the Spectre model X7V20UA#ABA and based on this answer bought an HP Active Pen.  I cannot get teh machine to acknowledge the pen in any way. I've followed what instructions I could find (basically have the pen near the computer when you turn the computer off and then back on) and it will nto use it in One Note.  Is this an incompatible device?

I like to keep my C930 in sleep mode. But sometimes after wake up, the laptop cannot connect to wifi (it cannot find surrounding wifi, and I cannot turn the wifi off). I will need to restart the computer to make the wifi work again. But when I restart the laptop in this condition, It cannot restart normally, it keeps restarting several times and until entering into repairing mode. I need to turn off the computer and open it again. It happens several times. It is hardware or system problem? And once I waked the laptop and screen didn't work. What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same.The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

The 1-minute hold of the power switch worked for me, but it is darn hard to do because of the somewhat inconvenient power switch position - and if you waver for a moment then the 60 seconds starts again. I found it easiest to turn the 360 on its side on a table and then it is easier to hold the switch down for the full minute uninterrupted. This for me only points out the importance for manufacturers to provide a HARD RESET capability through an unfolded paperclip or the like. C'mon guys, give us what we need to maintain our products!

Hi, I have an HP Spectre x360 that is a year and 5 months old. I was running it off the battery when suddenly a whole lot of smoke started coming from underneath the notebook and a smell of burnt plastic filled the air. Reading the forum I found that this is not something new to these HP Spectre x360 notebooks. Its it really possibile that HP have not activated a support program for who owns such an expensive notebook. My notebook is out of warrenty but I honestly think it was a close call, i was working on a wooden table when it started burning. Now I have a 1250 euro paper weight. I did try to contact support and was immediatly cut off once i gave them my serial number, or offered to pay for support. Will paying 30 euros actually achieve something, ie will they attempt a repair or will it be 30 euros just to be told over the phone that its something that simply cannot be repaired. Thanks

Upon opening the notebook on my desk, a series of cracks surfaced on the upper-left bezel of the screen, and extended across the screen. I keep my notebook for the most part on my desk, and when I travel, I put in the HP leather case, and in a well-paded bag. I've owned this notebook since August last year, and it has performed excellently besides the occaisonal loud fan noise and overheat.  I talked with a helpful HP Customer Support Rep, and I was told that if I were to send in my notebook, and screen damage will be presumed inflicted by the customer. I have also been in contact with the HP Executive board, but their reply did not grant me any help. I would like to know if I can send in my notebook for a proper examination, or if I can speak with a case manager on this issue. I really do not want to file a complaint to the BBB, but I feel that will be necessary if the material defect is to be assumed a damage on my part. Thank you in advance. I will include pictures of my display, as well as pictures of the siding to prove the lack of physical/blunt damage.

New owner of HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx here. I want to ask if the bottom of the laptop, the area above the fan openings where the FCC info/text lies, is supposed to creak when I press it slightly. I first heard this noise when I took my laptop out of the sleeve and held that area. At first I thought it was just rubbing against the sleeve, but after further examination, that is not the case. If this occurs with other models of the Spectre, it is a bad build quality, I am not sure which component is under there, but I want to know if the creaking noise is normal with only a slight press along the text area. Thanks.

Hello, Last winter purchased a convertible lenovo laptop. The first one had faulty hinges, I had it replaced on the same day I brought it in and the second one had faulty hinges and a faulty touchpad. So, I decided to ditch the cheaper computers and splurged on a HP spectre x360 from Best Buy. I live 200 kilometres away from large retail stores like this so getting back and forth is quite difficult, Staples was very understanding about the Lenovo laptops, however Best Buy told me there was nothing I could do when I described the problems I was having with my brand new HP. Several months went by and I avoided using the computer as much as possible in order to avoid facing the mistake I made in purchasing it. Eventually, my old computer became completely obsolete and I had no choice but use this HP.  My problems were not limited in any way. They ranged from an extremely annoying touchpad that sounded loose and made strange noises, the fact that the screen was closing on an odd angle, and the fact the the screen could barely stay open. A slight touch or even shifting the laptop would cause the screen to move. I could forgive these flaws if I had abused this computer or if it had received heavy usage, however I barely even turned the thing on. HP's lack of quality control is completely unacceptable and inexcusable, especially given the cost of the Spectre x360 line.I went through 5 (FIVE!) 13-inch Spectre x360's. All but one exhibited very loose trackpads (even very light taps will physically move the trackpad down and have an annoying loose click sound when taking your finger off of it). The one with an okay trackpad had USB-C issues. The trackpad -- arguable THE most important part of a laptop -- now feels like garbage. Hell, there are $200 Windows laptops and Chromebooks that have better trackpads than this $1,200 thing.It's extremely frustrating and disappointing. I REALLY wanted for the Spectre x360 to be my laptop (especially considering there's no other 2-in-1 out there that looks this good and is priced as nicely). Looks like the Lenovo Yoga 720 is next on my list. Just wish it had IR cameras for facial logins.

Just finished setting up my second Spectre x360 15t. The first one was a driver and screen flickering mess. As I'm finishing putting it through it's paces by running audio with a few tunes through Spotify and then over to Netflix to check dialogue, I've become aware that the fan has been running for some time. When I picked it up to feel the underside I was quite dismayed to feel how hot this thing was. Not cozy up to the fire hot but call the fire department hot. It was on a Xpad which was starting to get a bit toasty itself. No way this could ever sit directly on my lap. I know this is an ultrabook. I know i7 processors run warm under load but this fella gets HOT. I'm coming off a Spectre 13t with an i5 which is just as tight a unit as this one, but it never reached this kind of hot. I'm humorously concerned if I can put this on my desk while under heavy load without melting the finish off. Is anyone else experiencing similar circumstances? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Hi, my spectre x360 just out of warranty and will no longer charge the battery! Charger checked and working. When plugged into laptop, symbol appears to show connection but then states not charging. Battery nearly flat now but diagnostics state batter condition ok. Would appreciate any ideas to resolve please but I am not considered computer literate just general working knowledge!

Hello, I know this is an obscure topic but I noticed two scratches on the bezel (The polished metal) of my Hp Spectre X360.  To orient you, the scratches are not to far from the right side windows button and volume rocker.  The scratches are not deep due to not feeling an indent when I run my nail across them.  Also you can only see them in the most direct light.  Nevertheless they bother me.  Does anyone have any solutions as to how to remove those scratches at all?  I tried an extra fine scotch brite pad but was unsuccessful.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Hello, I have a HP Spectre x360 which is about 1 1/2 years old, bought in the UK (so annoyingly outside the 1 year warranty). A few days ago it stopped working. No damange, no software problems, no upgrades orf software updates. It simply wouldn't turn on. I've tried a hard reset and all the troubleshooting guides, but no joy. The small ac adaptor light does light up when i plug it it, but no response to the power button. This seems to be a known problem for this particular brand, but my only options appear to be to pay for a very expensive repair.  To me, this is simply unacceptable for a computer to break after such a short time, and with only infrequant usage. I can't find any number to call HP on without paying a large fee. I've tried the retailer, and the same thing. I can pay 60 for them to look at it and see what is wrong, but the chap at the store suggested it would probably cost much more than this to fix once I pay for labour and the parts.  Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve this? Thanks.

Hi after being bounced back to and fro from various departments of HP I'm still unable to get Pen support on my Spectre x360 13t-4200 model. I've came a few people that didn't have the firmware but were able to download it for their 15t series,  but so far I get a failed operation when I try to install the firmware. The same pen works on my sister's last year's model. Attached is a screen shot. ANy help is welcomed as I'm a graphic artist, I need my active stylus functionality  Please & Thank you. 13t-4200  13-4003

I just purchase a HP Spectre x360 and the HP Active pen from Best Buy.  Great laptop but I have noticed that I need to press VERY hard before the pen responds. If I don't press hard, then pen strokes appear very light.   When I cross H's or T's the cross doesn't register.   If i put the laptop in Tablet mode, then I can get the letters to appear as expected.  But when Writing on the screen in regular "laptop" mode or "Tent mode", the letters appear as "chicken" scratch I didn't find any settings for adjusting the Pen's Sensitivity in windows or one note. I would prefer that the pen behave more like a finger.  Just more precise.

I've heard better review for the Dell Active Stylus (the one with aluminum top half). It has worked great for me and I heard it has better sensitivity.

I already consulted the hp specialist technician in Brazil and after many tests the problem was not discovered.
