Preferred Solution: undo storage management?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi O wiser ones than me!

I have made a terrible mistake! I went into administrative tools, changed my slave drive to a dynamic disk. That, as i now know, unmounted it. When I changed it back - "This drive is not formatted - do you want to format it now?"

NO! NO! Noooo! All my work, all my music, all my projects - every document, everything, is on my 120gslave drive.

is there ANYTHING i can do to access the contents of the drive so that I can transfer it to my main drive - or so that it can stay where it is.

It is/was formatted as Basic Partition NTFS. I use Windows WP SP3.

The reason I did it in the first place was my slave drive has a glitch that sometimes causes my pc to reboot - at least 2X per day. There is no virus, the fault is with the drive, which I got corrupted but with no bad sectors. I was trying something new to sort out a problem that would be better addressed by getting another SATA hard drive.

A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing - and this tragedy was self-inflicted, unknowing. I am gutted!

Is there anything I can do to be able to retrieve my work? Can it be done....

Hi, does anyone know of a method to undo the deletion of a parittion that was deleted using Disk Management in XP? Partition Magic wasn't opening correctly, so I used Disk Management to delete a 1 GB swap (logical partition, about in the middle of the physical disk) I searched around the Disk Management tool bar and didn't see anything about "undo"

First off, it deleted instantly. No down time to process...
Second off, all located within ONE primary partition at the end of the physical drive, there were 3 logical partitions: one swap, two NTFS. The two logical NTFS partitions were physically behind the swap partition on the drive. (One 12 GB NTFS partition immediately behind the swap, and a 30 GB NTFS partition behind that) When the swap was instantly deleted, it also *instantly* deleted the 30 GB partition ( < 1 GB free) It left the 12 GB NTFS partition (also < 1 GB free) alone. It also didn't touch any of the primary partitions.
To try and visualize:
160 GB Toshiba SATA 2.5" disk

In physical order:
Primary - D:, NTFS, 6 GB
Primary - C:, NTFS, 78 GB - XP install
Primary - ..., Ext3, 20 GB - Ubuntu Edgy Eft install
Primary:
...........Logical - ..., Swap, 1 GB
...........Logical - U:, NTFS, 12 GB
...........Logical - Z:, NTFS, 30 GB

Now, it looks more like this: (when I immediately shut it down after the incident)
Primary - D:, NTFS, 6 GB
Primary - C:, NTFS, 78 GB - XP install
Primary - ..., Ext3, 20 GB - Ubuntu Edgy Eft install

I need  to use NT backup on windows 7 machines, there is an NT backup utility from MS that I have downloaded but I need removable storage management to install the download(RSM). RSM is not available on Windows 7 and I need to know if there is a way

A:I need removable storage management on windows 7

Hi,

Removable Storage Manager (RSM) is no longer included in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2. If you want to restore a backup from a tape device, please perform the restore on one of the following operating systems:
Windows XP
Windows Server 2003
Windows Vista
Windows Server 2008
The Windows NT Backup Restore Utility for Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2 is not intended to remain on computers that are running Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 indefinitely and should be removed once you have restored backups that were made
on Windows XP and on Windows Server 2003.

Previously, I had installed Windows 7 on a new SSD and also installed a new 1TB hard drive for file storage, photos, and programs. The SSD crashed and I had to get another one. I just installed Windows on it and then added my hard drive, which still has files on it when I ran the first SSD.

The hard drive shows in BIOS but not in My Computer. I went to Disk Management and it was listed as Foreign. I read that I should choose the option, Import Foreign Disk, which I did. I kept the same drive letter it had the first time around, and which showed this time, W. It is now listed as Disk 1, Dynamic Online, & Healthy. Now what do I need to do to continue to use it as I did previously, while keeping my data? I don't want to lose my files and photos, but I can always download the software again if I lose the programs.

Hey,

There are two things which have been bugging me off for some time now: a suspicious 'Undo Rename' in the right-click context menu even if I did not rename anything, and a delayed 'Undo Delete' in the right-click context (I deleted a shortcut from the desktop and it took some time for the Recycle Bin to be filled and an 'Undo Delete' option in the right-click menu to show up).

My User Account Control is set to maximum yet there's no UAC prompt to rename something. I didn't recall renaming a specific file(s) as well, all files from my desktop to folders remain "as is" or were unchanged.

Anyone here experienced the same, or am I just alone? I'm kinda paranoid today and I'm still looking for that renamed file.

Thanks and Happy Halloween.

I don't recall running into that. But you can get weird stuff stuck in the Registry. On my Vista machine I couldn't delete anything in Explorer. Malwarebytes found a "no modify" key added onto Explorer in the Registry and cleaned it off.

I have an Ideadpad Y500 (Model 20193) running Windows 8.1. It has the original/factory 15gb mSATA SSD and ~1tb conventional SATA HDD. The two drives (SSD and HDD) are managed by Intel Rapid Storage, a sort of software RAID management utility. Although Windows Disk Management (via Control Panel \ Administrative Tools) sees the two drives as separate devices (see below), they are in a RAID, so to normal Windows, they just look like a single HDD. I want to remove the SSD from the RAID. It is throwing frequent errors. My Windows Event Viewer (via Control Panel \ Administrative Tools) is full of hundreds thousands of warnings about problems with the SSD. It is nearing end of life. A few times a day the computer will reboot -- but only when running Windows. When I am running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Linux) it will run for a year without rebooting. I suspect that the Ubuntu installation is bypassing the Intel Rapid Storage software RAID and just directly using the ~1tb SATA HDD (ignoring the 15gb SSD).  I can access the Intel Rapid Storage management program in Windows, but it doesn't give me the option to break apart the RAID; to remove the SSD from the RAID. Supposedly there's a way to access it during POST by pressing ctrl-I, but that doesn't work for me. I can't figure out how to access the Intel Rapid Storage management via BIOS and that's the only place where I could (in theory) break apart the RAID and remove the SSD from the equation.  I realize, of course,... After a few days of use I decided to see what happened when I tried to access it via the eSata port. No luck, due to a driver on the eSata card issue with Win 8. So I powered all back down and plugged back in via USB. At this point the Storage pool went

Evening!

Have recently formatted my laptop and re installed Windows on my normal HDD because i have a small SSD since formatting my SSD and deleting and renewing the old partition, in windows explorer and disk management i can no longer see my SSD. I can see my SSD in Bios and in the Intel Rapid storage technology app, but cannot understand why i cannot use my SSD, Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Perry

A:SSD not showing in Disk Management, but showing on Intel Rapid Storage

Could we get some more information?

Does this laptop have 2 hard drive bays? Did it always have 2 hard drives?
What does "deleting and renewing the old partition" mean?

What I suspect is that the SSD has a partition that is still marked ACTIVE. Windows will boot from one Active partition and ignore the other. So if the SSD has just one partition that is marked active then the whole drive would be ignored.

If you deleted the partition in Disk Management or some 3rd party program then that would have taken care of the Active flag on that partition. But if you just deleted the contents of the partition that would have left the flag.

Let us know what you did.

EDIT: I should add: any partition that contained an operating system will have the active flag. This is not something you would have had to do yourself.

Networked, distributed computing environments require continuous maintenance, including the application of patches and fixes. The need to apply patches is not necessarily the result of flaws or deficiencies in operating systems or applications. Patches may be required to maintain a viable IT environment in the face of software updates, to block opportunities to exploit extended technologies, or to neutralize emerging security threats. These factors exist in all development and production environments. The critical question facing IT managers is how well their organizations will manage the inevitable patch management process.

Has anyone tried the new Storage Spaces feature in Windows 8? Your experience with it?

More specifically:

1. If this system is used on a shared network with other operating systems such as XP and Windows 7, can the storage pool drives be set up as shared, and become visible and usable from the XP and Win 7 machines?

2. If you have a Network Backup drive, like WD My Book Live, will it see and back up the Storage Spaces configured drive just like any other drive on the network?

A:Storage Spaces (Storage Pool) Experience?

I've only set this up on a Windows Server 2012 configuration therefore I cannot provide the exact steps on how to set one up in a client environment. That being said, a storage space/pool is essentially a virtual disk that resides on one or multiple physical disks allowing you to accumulate free space. For example if I have multiple servers with free space on their data drives I can then create a storage pool to accumulate this. To allocate this storage pool/space to a user or machine you will need to decide what you wish to do with it. Below are a couple of examples of how:

Share via Windows Folder Sharing (UNC Path)Use iSCSI to use the current ethernet infastructure allowing you to assign the storage pool/space a drive letter to the client machineIn a server environment you may wish to use it for DFS (Distributed File System) to maintain redundancy

Personally I use my storage pool as an iSCSI drive for which i have partitioned.

   Warning
You can only use the free space of a non Windows install drive. To my knowledge you cannot overcome this with partitioning.

In relation to your second question, you will only able to use the share as a safepoint backup if it is shared via Windows Folder Sharing. For example: \\computername\share

Also you will need to make sure that the NAS is on the same workgroup as the Windows 8 machine hosting the storage pool otherwise it will not be able to find the share. Hopefully this is what you asking however pleas... Read more

A:how to undo cm

What you can try is a System Restore, this will rollback your windows to before when you used this command

Here are steps on how to do this.

1)open your start menu and type "rstrui" into the search box and hit enter

2) a window should open up, you want to choose "choose a different restore point" and find a restore point that is before the time you used this command.

Post back your results.

A:GPO Undo ?!?!?!

Assuming you used GPO through Active Directory, just remove the bogus connection info you set. On the client side, do the following:

Click Start
Click RUN
Type secedit \refreshpolicy user_policy
Type secedit \refreshpolicy machine_policy

Then reboot the machine just to be safe.

That should solve your problem.

I had a rewrite DVD disk in a drive. I wanted to format the disk. I highlighted the disk and selected 'Format'. What happened next, I will blame on a faulty mouse that recently started jumping around, radically.

Immediately after clicking on 'Format', I looked at the progression bar and saw that I was not formatting the DVD disk. Instead, I was formatting my external hard drive. I quickly shut down the computer.

When I rebooted, and checked the external drive, Windows told me if I wanted to use the drive, I would have to format it. I am guessing the computer had gone through only about 5 sec of the formatting process.

I downloaded a couple of trial 'data recovery' programs and ran them. From what I can gather, all of my data is still intact on the drive, but Windows thinks the drive is now empty and shows it as such.

Is there any (hopefully free) software that will reverse the 5 sec of formatting or maybe something I can do that will trick Windows into 'seeing' all that data it thinks isn't there?

I'm afraid there is no such thing as an "undo" format if you have mistakenly formatted the wrong drive/media. Seeing as though caught the mistake early on in the process, there is still a chance that you could recover your files especially if the MFT (master file table) is still intact. It really depends on how far it got into the process though...there's no guarantee f... Read more

My sister has a computer with word. she uses it mostly as a woed processor for college. For some unknown reason she decided to do a system restore. After restoring the computer a bunch of her word and exel files have gone missing. I have tried to fib=nd them on the hard drive by doing a search and also using Windows explorer. They seem to have vanished. Is there a way to undo a restore? I went into XP help and there are instructions for undoing a restore. It says to click on the undo restore button in restore. There is n't any undo button on my restore page. How do i undo restore? Where would the files be?

A:Undo Restore?

What if System Restore doesn't fix the problem? Can I undo the changes System Restore makes?

Yes. Every time you use System Restore, a restore point is created before proceeding, so you can undo the changes if they don't fix your problem.

To undo the changes System Restore makes

1.

Open System Restore by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking System Restore.

Administrator permission requiredIf you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Allow.
2.

Click Choose a restore point from a list, and then click Next.
3.

In the list, select the restore point that is labeled Undo, and then click Next.
4.

Review your choices, and then click Finish.

I opened two internet explorer windows by clicking the shortcuts on the quick launch bar.

I tiled these windows vertically ( windows xp home edition ).

I right clicked on the task bar and clicked on the undo tile option.

This appeared to work - however clicking the internet shortcuts on the quick launch bar on another day produced a window of tile size.

Any attempt to change the the window size permanently fails.

Re- opening the windows from the quick launch bar results in the the original tile size.

Any suggestions please ?

Regards

Flynne

Yesterday I installed QFE 975741, a hotfix that HP's software told me that I need to install. When it was finished installing I got the message that it might not have installed correctly. Today I am finding that Excel does not calc unless I save the file; when I copy new formulas they do not recalc unless I save the file. I'm wondering if this is because of this Windows 975741. It would seem that the way to test this idea is to undo the installation of this hotfix.

How do I uninstall a hotfix?

In searching I found Microsoft SteadyState and it is discontinued program for Windows XP.
It is like a virtual environment where you can use your computer but after a reboot all changes are undone, deleted files are restored, in essence your computer is restored back to the previous state(before the virtual environment).

Does anyone know of any free similar program?
I would like it to replace the need to re-image every time I want to try something that could risk my computer.

Thanks!

I also have been searching for an app like you are describing with no luck. The only thing I have found is with Acronis Home Backup there is a feature called "Try and Decide" which works great. It is a paid app. I can't reccomend the backup because it was full of bugs for me. They have a thirty day demo.
