wif-ISP client validation via mac filtering using klarconect

Q: wif-ISP client validation via mac filtering using klarconect

I got a ISP business, and we are facing the following problem:

We got a Linux Klarconet server and Wifi Access points controlling the internet access to our customers via mac filtering and this means that each month we have to log in to the configuration utility of the Access points and either grant or deny the service using MAC filtering, this is both time consuming and exausting for us, that's why we are looking for a solution for this problem.

What we are planing to implement is the following:

--- Each client makes a montly deposit for the internet service in the bank.
--- The bank sends a report containing the information regarding who has paid and who has not via the internet to the system.
--- Based upon the report given by the bank, the system then grants or deny the internet service to our customers using the following method:
each customer has a mac address for his wifi client antenna, the server instead of the AP must take this mac address to identify the client and proceed with the validation of service.

In other words, what I want to do is use the Linux Klarconnect server to do the mac filtering and therefore granting or restricting the internet access to the customers on top of that the server must have a feathure that would allow it to recibe a montly report from the bank or the institution where the customers are going to make the deposit and use the report to perform the filtering.

If anyone knows of a system or a method that would allow me to do this, I would be most thankfull. if some one whant's to contact me, my e-mail is: [email protected] or just post your comments.

Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was wondering if it's possible configure a Windows 2019 IIS v10 hosted Web Server to perform OCSP checking of client certificates that are used to authenticate?

It is my understanding that typically the Responder URL that the Web Server contacts in order to validate the client cert is extracted from the AIA attribute in the client certificate. But is it possible to override/supplement this with an additional Responder?

For instance, what if I set up an OCSP Responder in the same domain as the Web Server and associated its revocation configuration with the SUB CA binded to the IIS Site. Now if client certs come in for authentication  and have an unrelated OCSP Responder
in their AIA, can I somehow tell the Web Server to check also the aforementioned Responder that has been stood up in the domain?

A:OCSP Based Validation for Client Certificates Using Responder Defined by Web Server

Per a reply from Mark B. Cooper at PKI Solutions this is indeed possible. You must edit the following GPO in order to override the default behaviour of the web server which is to only check the Responder URL specified in the client certificates' AIA extension.
Default Domain Policy > Computer Configuration >  Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > expand Public Key Policies
Once a custom Responder is specified in the CA / SUB CA's revocation properties the above GPO will allow it to check that custom Responder URL first, then ocsp as defined in the AIA extension and then CRLs
Thanks Mark!

Thanks to this forum I was able to remove Trojan.Pandex but now I can't validate XP. Microsoft web site has a list of solutions but none have worked.I get the following info from their site after attempting to validate. This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation because the validation process could not be completed. There are several possible causes:Your system level security settings prevented validation from running. Your user account may not have the correct permissions necessary to run validation. Your system settings have been modified in one of the following ways: Security software may have been installed that inadvertently altered your Windows product ID. The validation controls you used were downloaded from a site other than the Microsoft site. You chose to run the validation controls in an alternate compatibility mode. Option 1: Follow steps in Microsoft Knowledge Base article and run validation againMost customers who receive this error are able to resolve the problem by following the resolution steps found in Microsoft Knowledge Base article # 822798 and then running the validation again. Option 2: Install the latest Windows Genuine Advantage NotificationsIf this error still occurs, we recommend that you log in as an Administrator and install the latest version of Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications. I just tried to run Windows Validation and recieved the following message:

Quote:

Validation Failure: Product Key Failed Validation

2 years ago, I purchased WinXP Home at a retail outlet and have been using it since then. Unfortunately, I lost the original disk, and have installed XP on my machine from another disk.

But I used my original Product Code when installing it. The code really is mine, and I am looking at it right now.

In another forum, someone told me that all XP disks are the same; that it didn't matter which disk you used to actually install the O/S, that what really mattered was whether the Product Key Code was legitimate or not. In short, there is no connection between the disk that you purchase and the code that comes with it. The disks are "generic" and interchangable, and there would be no problem with using any disk as long as the Product Key Code was legitimate.

Given that, why is my machine failing the Microsoft Validation, and what can be done about it ?

Thanks in advance,

George.

I have had AT&T Uverse that came with a 2Wire 3800HGV-B Gateway for about a year now. I enabled MAC Filtering and entered all my home computer's MAC Addresses. About six months ago my brother tried to connect his work laptop to my wireless network but it would not connect until I added its MAC Address. For this past Christmas, I bought a new HP laptop running Windows 7 (64-bit). To my surprise before I had registered its MAC Address, I was able to connect to my wireless network and surf the Internet. I checked and MAC Filtering was enabled. I diabled and re-enabled. I rebooted the wireless gateway several times and still I was able to connect with this new laptop even though its MAC Address had not been registered. I removed an existing registered MAC Address and again to my surprise I was able to connect to my wireless network and surf the Internet despite its MAC Address had been removed completely or moved to the Block area. I showed this to my work Sr. Network Admin and he found nothing wrong. I have asked AT&T Support but so far no response. I doubt it is a hardware issue. I think it is the firmware. I am at the latest version of the firmware. I think I may need to re-flash the firmware. Since I do not techically own this gateway device, I am reluctant to do anything without AT&T approval. I did try contacting the gateway manufacturer 2Wire but they refuse to help me and directed me to contact AT&T. I am using WPA2-PSK with AES. Anyone have any sugge... Read more

There are 3 PCs, 1 is server, other 2 are clients.
1.Server[WIN10] has the shared folder which saved mdb file, and run our application, this application use ODBC to access mdb.[Not use DNS, just use ]
ODBC;DRIVER={MICROSOFT ACCESS DRIVER (*.mdb)};UID=;PWD=;DBQ=C:\DBFile\Formulation.mdb; [C is local driver]
2.Client 1[WIN7] is running our application, use ODBC to access the remote mdb file.[Read and write]
ODBC;DRIVER={MICROSOFT ACCESS DRIVER (*.mdb)};UID=;PWD=;DBQ=Z:\DBFile\Formulation.mdb; [Z is remote driver]
3.Client 2[WIN10] is running our application, use ODBC to access the remote mdb file.[Read and write]
ODBC;DRIVER={MICROSOFT ACCESS DRIVER (*.mdb)};UID=;PWD=;DBQ=Z:\DBFile\Formulation.mdb;
[Z is remote driver]

CRecordset is used in our code to access database, and the application already close connection and reopen connection when the network come back.

The issue is:
Step 1: The Client 1 disconnect network.
Step 2: Add one record into table1.
Step 3: Connect network for Client 1.
The new record can be display by Client 2, but can't be display by Client 1.

If I copy the database file in Client 1 to local driver, then the application can get the new record.
It seems the network driver has some cache bug.

Any one can help me on this issue?
Thanks very much!

This issue is hard to be reproduced, and it seems WIN 10 has no issue, but WIN 7 has this issue.

A few days ago, Norton popped up saying that my computer was infected with a virus called "downloader". it is associated with the files client.exe and client.txt
I turned off system restore and have run Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Norton, and Ewido... all while in safe mode.
I also ran CCleaner once the scan(s) is finished to clear out temp/recycled files.
Malwarebytes generally finds and removes a registry edit that disables virus notifications, but it always comes back.
Norton generally finds that client.exe is infected with a virus but can neither repair, quarantine, or delete it- saying "access is denied".
I have manually deleted the file as well, but it always comes back.
I have also had Norton scan each startup file individually as was recommended to me, but produced no results.
Is there any other program or method to ridding myself of this?
Thanks

I use thunderbird to connect to my ARMY AKO email account. I noticed the majority of the time, the client has difficulty completing sending email. (Though some gets through without timing out.) IF I go directly to the website and use their email I have no problems at all. What could be causing this? I'd rather use my client email program than to have to go the email site. Hello, I'm currently trying to connect to a wireless router/network and have been asked to do the following:

You can add a wireless client using either the "Push Button" or "PIN Number" method.
With the "Push Button" method, push the WPS button on the front of the router, then complete the process by clicking a button on the client (either a hardware button or a software button on the client's utility interface).
With the "PIN Number" method, select the PIN number method then enter the client's PIN number and click Apply. Then start the client WPS process soon after. You can find the client's PIN number on the client's utility interface.

Both of these options require me accessing the 'client utility interface' - but I don't actually know where this is!

Thanks so much
Adele

A:Client PIN number on client utility interface: where is this?

If your wireless adapter does not support those you will not find anything about them on the wireless utility. I disable that new fangled stuff on the router and just use WPA(2) passphrases.

If your adapter does support WPS or Pin, are you using a special wireless utility ('client utility interface') or just the Windows 7 one? Either way, when you try to connect to your network you will probably see those options.

At our company we use Lotus Notes for email. There is currently one user who is trying to use the option within MS Office to send the document to someone via email, but when she clicks the option to mail as PDF, she gets the error message "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client."

Things we have tried (in no particular order):
- uninstall & reinstall Lotus Notes 8.5.3
- modify the installation of MS Office 2007 Pro
- removed Outlook
- reinstalled Outlook
- using "Default Programs" set Lotus as the default mail client

None of these changed what happens. At this time, the user is saving the file as PDF to the desktop, then attaching it to an email.

System settings: Windows 7 Pro w/ SP1 (64 bit), MS Office 2007 Pro w/ SP3, Lotus Notes 8.5.3

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone, a couple of months ago my computer got a trojan. I could not totally get rid of it even with help from a few online communities. Had to migrate to another HHD. It seems like since then i have been getting alot more spam than i used to. I used to only get about 10 emails a day (that was nice) on average. After this it has bumped up to 30 to 40.

It seems like all the new ones are trying to sell something. They could be the same looking email as another but come from a totally different email address. The hyperlink in the email doesn't look like it has anything to do with the product, so of course i never click on them.

When trying to look up info on the email address it came from it seems like most of the email addresses are reported as just been started or shut down, like they took over someone elses address. I'm sure this is the way most of the spam is sent out, by using a different email address each time to try to get around your spam email settings.

Is this normal procedure with the spam senders or does it have something to do with the trojan i had a couple months back?

Also, what can i do to combat these short of blocking everything except approved emaill address? This seems a little harsh to me, as i may miss something important.

Thanks. Jerry.

Welcome Jerry
Upfront, I would like to say that I am sure that without more information and possibley even examining your machine a definitive answer would be impossible. That being said, I think that what your are experiencing is part of the trojan problem, your address was stolen and possibly even sold to others. There is only one sure cure, that is to change the address. I know this is a pain, but you can send the new address to all on your email list by "sending to all".
May I suggest that you use an quality firewall (windows fire wall is good and free too)
A good antivirus, Microsoft security essentials is good and download and run the free malwarebytes.
I would also like to say that most spam filters are not that helpful. The spammers change words, by misspelling etc, that would trigger the filter, etc. They change address often and know all the gimmicks.
Get a new address, notify the email provider to close down your address as it may be used to send to others in the future. Good luck and Im sorry for your problem.

WhiteSmoke #&[email protected]% What is it with this "software"?

I set my message filter on Thunderbird to to delete any message containg WhiteSmoke in either Subject or From, but I am still getting messages from them!

How can I assure that these messages are trashed?

A:Message filtering

Maybe they are disguising the name by inserting a non-printing character. For one (or more) of the offending messages do View - Message Source and then Edit - Find and search for exactly the same characters that you use in the filter. If not found then you can try to figure out what part of WhiteSmoke will work.

I'm assuming that you have double checked and triple checked that you haven't done anything "dumb" such as not having the filter enabled or not having it check Inbox or not having it check incoming messages.

If you run the filter manually do the offending messages get picked up and trashed?

That being said, we live in an apartment building, and openDNS can be easily skirted by connecting to one of the numerous unsecured WiFi networks within range.

I have researched ways to prohibit connection to unsecured Wireless Networks, but I realize that may post a problem or me if I am traveling or need to get online at a hotspot. What I am really looking for is a way to either apply openDNS to the individual laptop (MacBook) in addition to the network, in hopes of maintaining the filtering of openDNS no matter what network I'm on.

Is this possible? Alternatively, is there a solution that offers what I'm looking for but doesn't use openDNS?

Thanks,

James

A:Web Content Filtering

There are plenty of web filter programs that can be installed.
K9 web protection might be an option, it says it works for a Macintosh.
Or a bit of googling would turn up plenty of alternatives, such as this page.
I can't recommend any individual solution, mostly because I don't have a mac.

Would it be possible to filter the results from these various
MsrcSecurityUpdates modules?
i.e. like if I just wanted a list of KB for the month and to list the CVE's next to them but only for the products I want? Would anyone recommend if we can filter out data using PowerShell and out-file results into an html or csv format or if it's best to
use the Power Pivot to get the results I need? Any resources I can read through or point me in a direction would be helpful. thanks.

I hope I have posted it in correct forum ... sorry if I am wrong!!
I have several email accounts from my ISP (Bell Canada) in addition to Hotmail, Gmail etc. I use MS Outlook 2010 to send and receive emails from all these accounts.

Bell Canada's webmail is on Hotmail platform. That is if I use webmail, it looks very similar to Hotmail, with the exception of “Bell” logo instead of Hotmail.

I have been noticing that “junk” mail is not downloaded to my outlook. It stays on the server and I can only see it if I log in to each and every account one by one.

Earler, Hotmail filters had 3-4 setting. The lowest was almost no filter. Hence, all the mails went thru. Now Hotmail has changed filters as follows

Standard - Most junk email is sent to the junk email folder. <--- this is on server, NOT downlaoded to outlook
Exclusive - Everything is sent to the junk email folder except messages from your contacts and safe senders, Bell Mail service announcements, and alerts that you signed up for.
There are various time consuming and frustrating alternatives

1- Go one by one each account using webmail and take action
2- Add senders to list of safe senders. Not very practical as some of my senders change their email addresses or I get email from someone I never received before
3- Change ISP and find someone who does not use Hotmail platform

There must be a better way. Hope someone can suggest.

Thank you very much

Every time I restart the browser the InPrivate Filtering gets disabled even if I had it enabled on the previous session. Is there anyway to fix this?

Also if you add a lot of rules to the InPrivate Filtering list will it slow down the browser?

A:InPrivate Filtering (IE8)

Yes, adding rules will slow things down considerably. Pages will take longer to render.

Hi

I've recently installed Internet Explorer 9.
The option to enable inprivate filtering is not present in the safety menu.

I've searched in google, and I can't find any news that this feature has been removed, so I assume I've got something wrong with the way ie9 has installed.

I've set the FilteringMode option to 1 in the registry entry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Safety\PrivacIE

Nothing happens.

This is true for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions on my machine.

Anyone have any ideas?

I think it is in Tracking Protection, enable Your Personalized List. When you do enable it, any other TPL's will be disabled or have no effect. Best I remember that's how it works. Click once to highlight Your Personalized List and below it select, Settings for this list...

Hi Lockeyp,

Best thing for Spam is to block it at your ISP before it even downloads.

Greetings!

I'm trying to introduce deployed printers that are deployed only to specific groups of people. We currently deploy about 50 printers per-machine and it's really causing lag when people to go print, and it's frustrating to dig through the list to find the right one.

We have existing security groups, and these are the steps I've taken:

1. Create 4 new GPOs. 1 for classrooms, 1 for faculty, 1 for staff, 1 for administration. Right now I'm testing with the staff.

2. Edit the GPO, add all desired printers to Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Windows Settings -> Deployed Printers

3. Set Security Filtering of the scope of the GPO to the Staff security group (which FYI consists entirely of departmental security groups, no users)

4. Create a new OU called Print Test, put my machine and the new GPO in it

After gpupdate, no printers arrive.

I've found out that if I leave Authenticated Users in the Security Filtering, I get the printers. However, as soon as I remove Authenticated Users and add the Staff group and gpupdate, the printers go away. Same thing if I add my user account instead of the group.

I've verified that, when the Staff group is the only group in the Security Filtering, in the Advanced Delegation, it does has permission to Read and Apply Policy, just like Authenticated Users does when it's there.

I'm stumped! Any ideas would be appreciated.

A:Security Filtering for GPO

I know I can't help you on such matters but those that can would surly like to know what operating system/s you are using.

Knowing what environment might also be useful,
50 printers per-machine is a lot. It kind of leaves out home user and small business.

In IE8, do people use it? I find it blocks something on every web page I visit so I'm always seeing the exclamation point. And wondering if it is making the web page not display properly.

On a few sites I was able to allow some things to make the pages display correct but then it has to be run with "choose which content to block" which seems basically the same as not running it at all. I couldn't find a lot of info about it. Only how to turn it on or off.

A:InPrivate Filtering

No one uses InPrivate Filtering? Looking for suggestions on how I can use it and be confident it is doing what it is supposed to be doing.

Hey --

Just bought a used PC from a LAN gaming shop that was going out of business. I'm working on updating it and getting it working, but for some reason I can't access some sites on the internet. My guess is that his PC's all had some sort of filter on them to prevent gamers from roaming the net. Any ideas as to where to start? HJT below, if it helps at all.

Hiya

Not sure about any actual 'filtering' you can do, but you may want to try an addon:

I'm trying to enable Mac Filtering on my 2wire router (provided by at&t.)
the problem is that I have 1 computer in the house 1 wired, 1 wireless.
Three of those computer have the same a 'Computer Name' = HOME-PC.
Because of this when I enable the Mac Filtering on the 2Wire 2701hg-b router it denies connections to the wireless computer.

In the Mac Filtering setting on the router, only lists one of the HOME-PC computer. When I try adding the a mac address for the wireless computer to the list, it does not add a new entry. Instead it changes the mac address associated to the name in the list. Therefor the computer that once had access to the router, no longer does. But the newly added Mac address is granted access...

Well my question is... How do I correct this without changing the 'Computer Names.' How do I enable the mac address to show in the list, and not the computer name??

PS: 2Wire is the worse router ever!!!! If it wasn't forced on my by my ISP (At&t) then I wouldn't use it! It lacks so many setting that other routers have.

A:Mac Filtering Issue

Change the computer name of one of them to something else, say HOME-PC2. I'm not sure why this is such a big deal, and it's the easy way to fix this.
