Preferred Solution: Hard to use keyboard

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Windows 10
Start - Settings - Ease of Access - Keyboard

Everything here is off. If i turn on the On-Screen Keyboard no keys are Highlighted (indicating they are depressed/stuck )
When I use the hard keyboard and sometimes even the onscreen keyboard its as if either Ctrl, Alt Win or something are pressed down as it just types shortcuts.

-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via onscreen keyboard types as normal
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via hard keyboard brings up -Chrome://history- But now also on the onscreen keyboard Ctrl is Highlighted.
I click on the onscreen keyboard to deactivate the now highlighted Ctrl button and try again. Now things are different, as now both the onscreen keyboard and the hard keyboard both bring up ?Chrome://history- when -H- is typed ( Shift is not depressed )

This seems to randomly cycle one min onscreen keyboard works fine, next the keyboard works fine or they either work or none of the work rendering the computer useless.

I cant help feel it?s a software issue but im no pro and I don?t have an additional external keyboard to try but as the onscreen and hard keyboard work ok for a while sometimes I assume something is up and that?s what brought me here.

Hopefully this is clear enough to be understood and to help others who may have the same issue.

Thank you so much for your time.

If so, turn it off [uncheck the checkbox], do a full shutdown, restart and see what happens.  I just had a client having the most bizarre problems with his keyboard and this was ultimately how it got solved.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop. Just recently the V key has become hard to press. You just can't tap it, like the other keys, you have to push it. But it will make the contact and type the V (or successfully paste with CTRL V). Can anyone give me an idea as to what may have caused this and how to fix it? If it was a normal keyboard I would pop the key, clean out from under it and replace the spring (if it had one). This is an older laptop, had it since 2007 and I bought it used then.

There is a problem with a friend's laptop keyboard. It is said that he had to press on the keyboard key hard for it to register to the computer. Upon removing the key cap, pressing on the gasket and also exhibits the same problem as well. In comparison, a key without the problem require very little force on the gasket for the key to register.

Is the problem with the gasket itself or underneath?

I have a few key requirements though, they are as follows:
1)Lighted keys
3)needs to work with mint, windows(XP,Vista) & Ubuntu

I have Googled, Looked at Newegg and Amazon and I keep getting the same end result.... Logitech K800:approve::slurp: Link to Logitech page: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/keyboards/keyboard/devices/7288

Hi. I have problem when trying to remove a USB connected disk drive; whenever I click on the icon in the bottom right of the task bar and choose the device to eject, once it's removed I also lose my USB keyboard - I have to manually unplug it then replug it to get it working again.

I only seem to have this problem with this particular drive, my USB stick doesn't provoke this problem.

The hard drive is a rather old Maxtor 60G, NTFS.

Weirdly, the mouse, which is connected by USB through a port on the keyboard, continues to function normally... The keyboard is from Apple, the aluminium Apple model. I never had this problem with Vista.

Any Ideas?

Hi there,

I have had my Satellite X200-25H for well over 18 months but one of the problems I have always had is with the keys on the keyboard. I find often needing to press hard on the keys in order to type.

It is really annoying and I want to know if others have had similar experience with there Satellite Laptops (in particular the desktop replacement models) or have I been very unlucky with mine. Is there a cheap fix for this?

One day while using my computer i noticed my mouse stopped working which is plugged into my USB port. After investigating i realized my USB ports were giving power but my computer was not recognizing them. My keyboard still worked since it was plugged in the old Keyboard input however when i went to get an old mouse to plug in the mouse input it still wouldn't recognize it. My Control panel wouldn't open the "Mouse" menu either. After awhile i went back to try my computer and noticed now the Keyboard wont even work. Thinking it was a port issue i took my extra computer and just plugged the hard drive into the extra one and now i have the same problem so I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with my hard drive. I have tried multiple mice and keyboards including the old school style non-USB keyboard. Hey guys,
I have been having an issue recently with my mouse/keyboard staggering a lot with significant noise from my computer like something is running.  I checked resources but everything is minimal.  I am running Windows 8.1 Pro.  I have a Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard which I replaced the batteries in the mouse thinking they could be dying, but that didn't work. The Keyboard is a solar charging keyboard and has good battery.
I did notice today, but have not noticed before that when this was happening, the windows maintenance was running.  I stopped it, and it took a while to get the mouse back to normal again.  Don't know if this is a coincidence or not.
My computer has a 4ghz 8 core amd fx processor and 32 gb of ram.  The skipping or staggering is happening randomly, sometimes at idle, sometimes when putting slight load.  But there is no way I do anything that will stress my specs out to cause staggering which leads me to believe that it has to be some type of infection.
Can someone walk me through a process to find out?  I have Avast, Malwarebytes, and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit running for protection.  I ran Malwarebytes and Avast and didn't find anything, which doesn't surprise me.  I realize that no program is full proof and each have their strengths and weaknesses so I am sure I am still vulnerable somewhere.  I also realize a clean install is probably going to be the bes... Just lately, my mouse cursor will all of a sudden freeze up, for about 5 seconds and then start moving again. But it then starts changing cursor shapes...goes from pointer to text entry then changes to a horizontal text entry. It also seems to have a red shadow around it when it starts doing this. I also notice my keyboard freezes up...can't change Num Lock, Scroll Lock or Cap lights.
I started looking in the event viewer to see what was going on during this time and it seems that event viewer always has the same Error:
Event ID: 14
.....source nvlddmkm cannot be found.
When this happens, I try to log off out of my user account but the issue seems to stay with me back into the login screen because it doesn't come back up...the screen just goes blank and then the monitor goes into a sleep mode, (I/O button on monitor starts flashing.) At this point I'm locked out and must push the computers start button to shut down power. Of course when I reboot, I'm presented with the Windows Error Recovery screen.
I also noticed that now when I log back into my user account, the HD light stays on steadily for a long time and everything loads slowly. I have CCleaner running at startup and it takes 5 minutes to even start the cleaning process. Once things are back up, eveything seems fine until the mouse starts freaking out again.

Good evening,I've purchased a Lenovo ideapad 700 (a pretty high performance laptop) almost one month ago and in this month i've noticed a very annoying issue, the keyboard stops working randomly. In one month this happened 6-7 times, no one of  the keys responds and the only way is to Hard shut down pressing the power button for 10 seconds, then it returns back to normal.Fact is, i use this pc also for gaming and i press keys pretty fast, is there a combination of keys that shut down the keyboard completely?  Is the driver outdated/corrupted? Am i pressing keys faster than processor's response time? Thanks if everyone want to reply, btw i'm really considering the possibility to return the product if the issue is not resolved.

I am having a issue with my father's desktop pc. He has an HP Pavilion p6310f:
AMD Athlon II X4 630(2.8GHz) Quadcore Processor
6GB of memory

Anyways, this computer has run perfectly the past 2+ years we've had it until tonight. I have been borrowing the keyboard that came along with it (wired USB kb) at night for my laptop, as I spilled coffee on my wireless one and haven't replaced it yet. Several times today, the Pavilion would "freeze up" and the only way I could get it to shut down was by either hitting CTRL-Alt-DLT, then unplugging the kb or manually turning the PC off. The third time I went to restart it I got an error stating:
"Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is NTFS, volume label is HP. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency"

So, I allowed the chkdsk to run and when it got to about 40% complete it started saying things like "deleting such and such file on label xyz etc....". It did this for about 2-3 minutes. By the time the OS finally loaded we got multiple error messages that Adobe and several other applications were corrupted. I opened up the "HP ADVISOR/HP TOTAL CARE application that comes with the computer and it mentioned several things needed to be fixed and downloaded. It got halfway thru that and gave me and error saying:
"at HPAssistant.Data.dsActiveCheckRes.load ACResults(String filterCategory, Boolean include Ignored)".

Dropped my cell phone on the right hand side of my keyboard and in front of the keyboard and my laptop instantly rebooted. Each time I reboot, it takes a very long time. When I finally login, I can see all my files but they take long to open. I did the F12 diagnostics and it gave me error message: 2000-01 42 for my hard drive not working.
It seems so strange that dropping something so light on my keyboard could cause this much damage! Could there just be something that disconnected?  Is there anything I can do to save some recent photos from my computer? Any recommendations on saving files or restoring function would be appreciated!

A:Dropping cell phone on the keyboard caused hard drive failure?

The drive needs to be replaced - yes, a sudden shock to the drive -- even a seemingly minor one - can destroy it.
To attempt recovery, remove the drive from the system, mount it in a USB shell, and attach it to a working system.  You may be able to recover at least some data. If you cannot, there's always the option of professional data recovery, though the cost isn't inconsiderable -- it'll start at $600 or so and can easily escalate rapidly beyond that.
Something like this is what you'll need;
Once the drive is replaced, be sure you purchase a backup drive - and keep backups going forward.

Hello All I have Lenovo G50 80 laptop; it?s a full 15.6 inch laptop with DVD drive, full keyboard, touch pad. Last year i started having problem with laptop, as touchpad stopped working the arrow cursor got stuck on screen, and will only work again if i press any key on keyboard. It will only work for few seconds and minutes then again stuck. Also the arrow or delete key stayed in loop, whenever i open anything to type, the cursor in text field kept moving to left or keep deleting the text. The service center guy told me that it is due to Keyboard and touchpad getting short due to moisture or something, they changed the keyboard. Now after one year again i am facing same problem. Same thing happening again and again. It?s very irritating. It seems there is some hardware or design fault in the way Lenovo has designed their keyboard and touchpad. I live in Mumbai, so may be due to monsoon there is moisture in air and it may be affecting this design. But again i have never seen this issue in any other laptop brands of competitor. Can anyone please help me how can i fix this on my own, as laptop is not under warranty and i don?t want to keep changing laptop every year. May be someone with hardware repair knowledge can help me here. Can I short or cut or sholder any cables, any circuit, I don?t know just help me guys to fix this. Anyone from Lenovo listening please have a look it a big problem. Thanks

Hi SPea63,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
It would help if you can add a snapshot of the part to help us get perhaps specific part number.
If this is one specific with a single key, I don't think there are available parts as OEM would replace the entire keyboard (page 44). Other non official key replacement provider may be helpful instead like this as example.
Update us soon as convenient.

Hi all. I have already posted this once here. The topic had quite a few views and not a single reply. I'm giving this another try, as the problem persists and is not getting any better.

The keyboard on my Aurora m9700 is having some strange issues. I cannot figure if it is software or hardware related, either. At random intervals, the keyboard will cease function. But when I go into standby, then come out of standby the problem seems to be magically fixed! In fact, the problem just happened right after I finished typing the last sentence. I checked event manager, nothing changed. I had to go into standby and come out of it...

So please, is there anyone on here that can help me out? I have reformatted the computer since this started happening and nothing has changed, so I do not know what could possibly be causing this!

Hi, I have a Lenovo Flex 2 14 which came with a British keyboard but I noticed you can take off the keyboard and swap it out for another one - you can find backlit versions, or a version with a different layout. I got a keyboard for it with Japanese hiragana on it, but the laptop doesn't seem to recognise any of the extra keys this keyboard comes with which have key codes not used by other languages. These keys include: | -? \ ??????the ????, ???? and ???? toggleI would have assumed this was to do with the fact that these are keys from a 106/109 key layout as opposed to the standard 102 key, so I replaced the keyboard driver with Microsoft's 106/109 key keyboard driver, but that hasn't had any effect - it still can't see these keys being pressed. The ??/?? ?? key works because it uses the same key code as the tilde on other keyboards, but that's all. My hypothesis for why this might not be possible to fix is that the ribbon connection between the keyboard and the motherboard could only support 102-key layouts in Europe, and therefore the only way to be able to use these extra input conversion keys without a different motherboard altogether would be to use an external USB keyboard. I may have just made up what I said about the motherboard though, so does anyone know if there's a driver I can use to solve this problem and be able to use the extra keys? I can't just use a key mapper like KeyTweak ... Dear Dell community,
the E7440/E7420 (and I think many others) has keyboards with (e.g. 04W6PV 08PP00) or without trackpoint (e.g. . RXKD2 0RXKD2)
Subsequently the upper mousebuttons (A12AN5) can/should be removed (which is possible).
However, then I would need another keyboard trim covering the space where the upper mousebuttons have been.
I haven't found any different keyboard trim than 29FWC 029FWC (the one with a recess for the upper mouse buttons). I also didn't find a "filler" for the upper mouse buttons.
A trackpoint-less keyboard can be installed in a laptop with the upper mouse buttons still in place, but it's rather tight and the mouse buttons cannot be pushed properly any more, so should be disconnected.
How do I properly convert a trackpoint-enabled laptop to a trackpoint-less one?
kind regards

Hi! I've got Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Silver (https://www.alza.cz/EN/lenovo-ideapad-yoga-13-silver-d375124.htm), and while I am quite content with the device, my keyboard stopped working. I was wondering whether any of you might know and suggest an online reseller (official or otherwise), where I could get hold of a replacement keyboard. Now, I suppose backlit keyboard versions of newer Yoga laptops will not work I guess, will they? From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck

I'm running out of ideas so I hope you can help. When I turn on the laptop, I see the lights but nothing else. It's only when I connect it to an external monitor that I see the actual screen. Same with the keyboard - only the attached keyboard works. I updated drivers and bios. There's no damage. This is using Windows 7 and I've had no problems with it. Under display, detecting another screen fails, just gives me the external screen. Touchpad is enabled in settings but doesn't work. Any ideas? The laptop is about 4 years old and out of warranty. No spills or damage.

Hey there, I found a similar topic but unfortunately, there was not a final response that solved my problem. I own a Yoga 13 Ideapad without the backlight function, unfortunately. Recently I watched a video of a keyboard replacement and I would like to do that with mine in order to replace it with a backlight keyboard. The problem is that I am not sure if my model features the needed connections. The model number is: 219159342273 if that helps.  I found backlight keyboards described as "original" Lenovo parts for about 30?. Is that realistic or fake?Thank you for your help!!!

As I wrote in the title, my Shift and Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts. However, the Shift key still works when capitalizing letters.

I've been dealing with this problem off/on for the past two weeks and haven't been able to figure it out. I've gone into Ease of Access features and turned on/off all of the available options (Mouse Keys, Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys). I've pressed Shift for 8 seconds, and pressed it 5 times, and still haven't been able to correct it.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Possibly helpful additional information:
I've got a Spanish/Latin American keyboard layout installed in addition to the US English keyboard layout. I toggle back and forth with Left Alt + Shift (which is how I noticed my Shift key stopped working).
I play a game whose controls rely on a lot of Shift key pressing and holding.

When was the last time you used a can of air cleaner on the keyboard? If it isn't from contact wear often keyboards tend to get loaded up with dust and debris!

One example of that is having any snacks onhand around a pc where little bits get passed along from your fingers onto and under the keys themselves. Keyboards are known to get loaded up fast with any foods present!
