I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My W10 64bit Dell desktop installed KB3194798 on 10/12/2016 using Windows Update (WU) so now it is 1607 1493.321.
Today I tried WU to update my Lenovo G505 W10 laptop and I think it might have been KB3194798 that has killed my laptop, but I cannot even get the laptop to go past the black screen to the Lenovo display when trying to boot.
Here's the history...
Today I pushed the power button to turn it on and found that my wife had left it on and over the many hours it had gone into (I assume) a powersaving mode that made me think it needed to boot.
The screen showed that WU was up and some KB was at 94%. I left it alone and a few minutes later it told me the install was ready to go. So I clicked to let it WU do the install. The install failed saying some files were missing but it let me click on "retry".
I think it failed a 2nd time. The 3rd time it appeared to be installing OK, and I went to work for a few hours. On my return it showed that the laptop required a restart to complete the WU installs - that's pretty normal after letting WU do an install of a "cumulative", I think. So I clicked to restart and walked away. When I returned hours later, the laptop was still displaying the Lenovo boot-time logo and the spinner was spinning. I powered down the laptop by holding down the power button. Now the laptop will not even display the Lenovo boot-time logo. The little power LED is lit. The laptop is on wall power - not battery, btw.
I'm think... Read more

Hello everyone, Since about five days ago, everytime I turn on my laptop, it starts normally. It goes into the black-background lenovo startup with a white loading symbol. Then, after maybe 5 rotations of the dots in the loading symbol, it freezes. It does not progress into starting up. At this point, I usually turn off my laptop by holding the power button. If I don't turn it off myself, it turns off automatically a few minutes later.  Every 2 or 3 times I turn on my computer, instead of the loading symbol, it turns into a "Preparing Automatic Repair" mode. I have seen the loading symbol for this mode but then it disappears and nothing happens and it turns off automatically after ten minutes or so. I've seen the same solution that help others with the same problem which is to take out the DVD from the laptop. I did this and my problem has not changed.  edit: g500 to g505

Hi there, My Lenovo G505 is not booting anymore. I had wanted to scan my laptop with Kaspersky Rescue CD, and therefore, I wanted the laptop to boot from the CD. So, I searched for how to boot the laptop from CD, and I followed the solution provided in this thread by Solid_Cruver: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Lenovo-Z500-BIOS-legacy-support/m-p/1124815/hig... As written in that post, I first booted to BIOS Setup, then under Exit, I changed the "OS Optimized Defaults" to "Other OS". I then hit F9 to load defaults. Then, under BIOS, I changed to Legacy boot and Legacy first... both options that are shown one below the other. After that I saved the BIOS setup and exited. After that when the laptop boots, it just keeps showing Lenovo on the screen, and under that the dotted circle keeps on spinning, and nothing else happens. After waiting for a while, I turned power off by pressing the power off button for a while. Then, I pressed the Nova button, but no display comes up, but the light for power remains on. Again, nothing happened there too. Just a black screen, even no blinking cursor, or any kind of display. After waiting a while, I pressed the power button, and laptop powered off. How do I get to the Nova screen, or get the computer to boot? Or, how to just set the BIOS setup again to what it was before? This isn't my laptop, but of my friend, and I don't want it to go bad :/. Please ... Read more

A:Lenovo G505 unable to boot

OK, I tried again after power off on the Lenovo screen. I then pressed the Nova screen, and this time, the display was there (phew), and I got the options for the Nova screen. I went into BIOS, and I changed the options for "OS Optimized Defaults" to "Win8 64-bit", and in BIOS, changed to UEFI. I saved the settings, and exited. But still, the computer is not able to boot. It again shows the screen with Lenovo written and the dotted circle keeps spinning. What else do I have to do to get the laptop to boot normally from the OS? Under the BIOS settings, I noted that Secure Boot was Enabled, but the Secure Boot Status was Disabled. The laptop isnt booting because of this setting? How do I get the Secure Boot Status to Enabled, and how do I get the computer to boot normally from the OS on the HDD?

Hi, I have G505 59379534 with 8.1 64 bit OS. It is out of warranty. Till a few months, DVD drive was working allright. But now, even after inserting DVD or CD, I am getting insert a disk message. No CD or DVD is getting detected. Also sometimes during start up, some sort of crackling sound is observed to be originating from DVD slot. Help in this regard is requested.

A:Lenovo G505 DVD drive not working

Hi Arm-1969,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue the DVD not working in your Lenovo G505 laptop.

Check with bootable DVD, does the DVD is detected in BIOS?

To resolve this issue, remove the affected filter drivers.

To do this, click on Start,  type regedit in the search box, then click on regedit in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, key in your password or click continue.

Locate, and then click the following registry subkey: hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\class\{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}

Note that there could be several instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in the above step so make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the upperfilters and the lowerfilters values.

To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the default data value is
DVD/ CD-Rom and the class data value is CDrom.
In the right panel, right-click upperfilters , and then click delete . Click yes to confirm the removal of the upperfilters registry entry. In the right panel, right-click lowerfilters , and then click delete . Click Yes to confirm the removal of the lowerfilters registry entry... Read more

I purchased a Lenovo G505 laptop for my Girlfriend back in 10-01-13, I purchased it with a exstended 1 year warranty,, but anyways, she likes to play Sim3 ALOT, and i mean ALOT, which isnt a graphically heavy game for a A6 APU 4 GB of DDR 3 Ram, but i know that the game takes ALOT of resources for some reason, but i notcied while she was playing it it takes nearly a half hour for her game to load before she can start playing, So i decided to upgrade her RAM and HDD, to a SSD and 16 GB of Ram, which brought her APU shared graphics memeory from 256 to 512 ( which to me seems pretty low but from what i could tell there is no way to change that, I was hoping for atleast 1gb), all said and done, her game boots up pretty fast now, only takes about 10 minutes, which is great, but since the upgrade, her laptop has started to get really hot, which this laptop usually stayed pretty cool, I even Dust it out regularly with a can of air, and keep it pretty dust free. she keeps the laptop closed on top of the TV stand and uses the HDMI cable and a wireless keyboard and mouse, and plays on a TV, for on the couch expeirance, but since then we have had to invest in 2 fans, 1 laptop fan with a 140 mm that runs at 1600 rpm, and a small window fan that sits on the CD drive side of the laptop to help blow any hot air lingering AWAY from the laptop ( dont want it facing the side vent, due to the fan pushing hot air out, and ruin the fan, and fighting with its sell to keep it cool), and still it ov... Searched brought me here where i started following RUFUS tutorial to make usb but as i clicked START after doing in initial steps, it game me following error...

My Lenovo G505 laptop running Windows 8.1 gave me error messages that say:"EFI Network 0 for IPV6 boot failed.""EFI Network 0 for IPV4 boot failed.""Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Inset Recovery Media and Hit any key. Then Select 'Boot manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media"Then it goes to the boot option menu and gives me a list of the two boot options:"EFI Network 0 for IPV4""EFI Network 0 for IPV6"with no option to select the HDD despite BIOS being able to detect it.I changed the boot mode to Legacy Support from UEFI, and this time on the boot option menu I got a choice to boot from the HDD or the ODD. When I chose to boot from the HDD I got another message saying "Check cable connection!" PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM."I tried to boot Ubuntu from a flash drive and from a CD, but I still got the same result as when I tried booting from the HDD.I think the problem is that my Laptop won't boot in legacy support, but when I use UEFI I only have the option of booting from the network. I have no idea how I could fix this, so any suggestions are appreciated.

hi MattQE,

Welcome to the Forums.

Just to verify, is the unit originally Windows 8 and this problem occured after you upgraded to Windows 8.1? Any changes that you made to the machine before the problem occured?

From the looks of it, this seems like a hardware failure but can you try the following:
1. Boot into the BIOS and set the following options (if applicable):

Security Tab:
Secure Boot = Disabled

Exit Tab:
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS / Disabled

2. When done, press Fn+F10 to save and exti and observe.

Let me know how it goes.

Some forum members have reported a variety of Wifi issues with their G505 laptops. Their reports range from showing "Connection is limited", to Wifi connections dropping repeatedly, to being unable to make a Wifi connection at all. I combined multiple threads in order to assist forum members with troubleshooting solutions.

If your G505 was upgraded to Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and then lost connectivity, or you recently purchased a G505 running Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and are unable to connect, try following the instructions posted by Vikramsbox to restore the connection through the Lenovo Communications Utility.

For non-Windows 8.0 or 8.1 users, start troubleshooting with the basics:

The most recent WLAN, BIOS, and Power Management drivers from Lenovo can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g505-no...
It is also good practice to verify your Wifi is activated by following the instructions from Neokenchi.
Check Power Management settings to ensure your laptop isn't turning off the Wifi as noted by Dannyk1.
Check to see that Airplane Mode is set to OFF by following the instructions provided by Shiv_K.

After trying those steps, if you still experience a Wifi issue with your G505, other troubleshooting steps have been noted in this thread. This includes a whitelist of accepted replacement WLAN cards posted by Topmahof and a 3rd party driver which resolved wifi issues fo... Read more

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

hi mahdhir2005,

Im sorry to hear that.

I would suggest you call the Lenovo Technical Team regarding the Issue. If it is the BIOS that's causing the issue then there maybe no source or option to have it fixed without they're help or service.

If the BIOS software you downloaded was from a legit Lenovo Site and correct model, then I think It will be ok to Just report them what happened and ask for possible option.

Hope this helped

When I look up your system on the support page I see quite a few updates, drivers and such that support windows 8.1 and 10.  If you are looking for a BIOS update or patch, those are usually OS neutral and are applied with either a BIOS utility or patcher that works in DOS mode and some can use a windows based utility.

Are you trying to use a BIOS update to fix an issue or just get the "latest and greatest" for your computer?  Mostly I would not recommend updating your BIOS unless it is absolutely neccessary to fix a troublesome issue or problem with hardware.

I tried to fix it by entering the BIOS but the options there were limited, so I decided to update the BIOS. I downloaded the BIOS update for 64-bit windows(i am running windows 8 which is compatible with the said update utillity). I ran the .exe and followed all the instructions (did not shut-down restart or anything my computer). After installing it automatically restarted and a Lenovo logo prompted on the screen followed by ">>Start PXE over IPv6, Press [ESC] to EXIT..." after that "EFI Network 0 for IPv6(numbers and letters) boot failed". Then ">>Start PXE over IPv4" which failed and a blue box poped saying "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any ket then select boot manager to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media". Pressed ok and got me to Boot Manager screen. Boot option Menu had only EFI Network 0 for IPv6 and EFI Network 0 for IPv4". What should I do?Note that I tried to start up both with and without the ethernet cable in.

Finally gave into the Lenovo nagging and updated the BIOS on my E560 - big mistake. It went through and installed fine, no issues with failures, etc (well none that appeared on the screen). The laptop restarted fine, it went through and updated the BIOS, restarted one final time and ...... nothing. At present I have popped the battery and the power, reset the unit (press pwr button for 15sec etc), removed all peripherals, etc, etc, googled for similar happenings and so no matter what I have done, the laptop is as dead as a brick. I have the small red power light on but that's about it. Nothing appears on the screen (so can't see UEFI/BIOS), no fans start and about the only thing that does work is the DVD drive can be opened. It's a relatively new laptop (less than 12 months old so still under warranty) but as a word of caution to other E560 owners - DO NOT INSTALL THE LATEST BIOS UPDATE. Well no unless you want an expensive paper-weight for your desk.

Hello! My wifi stoped working and I updated all drivers and it didn't work. Then for the last thing I've updated the bios from 9acn28ww to 9acn32ww from the site. It went OK, but now that I try to acess the setup I'm prompted by a system password I didn't set earlier, it was empty. It came with Windows 8 installed, but I was using Windows 7 with MBR partition and now I can't configure to Legacy and nothing... Is there any default password like "password" ? Thanks in advance!

Hello,  I got an update from lenovo system update and I accepted the update. After the reboot, it went into the bios and I just selected "exit without saving". Then everything's dead now. The computer powers on, but it doesn't even show the Lenovo logo. When I try to go into the bios with that small button, the same thing happens. Is there anyway to recover the bios with a flash drive somehow? I found an instruction to recover the bios using the USB drive, but it needed a BIOS.PWH file which I don't know how to get for Lenovo Z510.  PLEASE HELP ME! I'm freaked out

I found this procedure on a lenovo forum. Give it a shot and see if it works for you. If not, it is not worth putting money into fixing this laptop.. New ones are pretty cheap and having a new mb installed in this one will cost more than a new laptop.

BTW the spelling errors are from the forum NOT mine.

Bios recovery procedure

How to Recover a bad or brick bios in lenovo laptops:

1.Download Phoenix Wincrisis then Click on the WINCRIS.exe and choose CREATE MINIDOS CRISIS DISK and press START to make: USB Flopy or usb flash memory.
When creating the boot Floppy or usb memory, select from Folder Options to view the hiden and system files and delete or rename the file config.sys if present.
2. Download your Bios file from lenovo.com if u dont have it, Rename your BIOS file to bios.wph and copy it to your: USB Floppy/usb memory.
3.Plug USB Floppy/usb memory into laptop and shotdown.
4. Hold down Fn+R keys and while holding press the power button.
5. Now you should hear the flopy drive working or usb blinking, hold the keys for a while.
6. Leave the computer for few min. and if the computer does not restart it self turn the power down.
7. if everything went OK the computer shold start normally.
Download Phoenix Wincrisis Links:

Hi! I updated my Lenovo T430u's BIOS from version 2.11 to 2.13 this morning and everything is slow since. I mean: sloooow. I had a functionnal dual boot Windows 10/Linux Mint but now Linux Mint takes around 3 minutes to boot. It took 25 seconds before. I figured it was related to the disk so I did the memory and disk diagnostics but everything seems ok. Even booting from USB/DVD is slow. I tried restoring default settings from BIOS, putting the battery in maintenance mode, removing the battery and even disconnecting the CMOS backup battery for an hour. I then tried to downgrade the BIOS but it does not seem like an option. This would probably fix my problem since everything was ok at version 2.11.I am really out of solution here! Please help, my computer is not usable in this state :/ Julien

It looks a lot like this problem:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T500-takes-15-minutes-to-boot-after-bios... The only thing is that I don't have an "Intel AMT" option to disable in the BIOS :/ Help!

My Windows 10 N22 does not output audio to my digital TV when connected with an HDMI cable. I have tried it on several TV's with the same result. I get video, but the audio comes from the laptop speakers. The TV is not even available to select as a Playback Device in Sounds, only the speakers show up. I have tried to udate the BIOS, as the latest BIOS is supposed to resolve an HDMI audio issue.  However, when I try to update it, I get a message that reads "ERROR 180 - BIOS part numbers do not match!" My current BIOS version is 0YCN14WW.

The notebook version was A7CN23WW. Upon reboot, after successful BIOS update, Win 7 booted with errors of Repair option or Normal boot up. Even re-installation of Win 7 will yield BSOD - ACPI non compliant.  Have changed BIOS settings defaults from UEFI to Legacy, it still does not work. This BIOS version is not stable. Please help / advise ? Can i request for the earlier version of BIOS ?

I have managed to resolve the Win7 installation issues by the following settings in the BIOS setup (F2) : a) Boot Mode/Priority - set to Legacy over UEFIb)  USB Mode - set to 2.0 and not 3.0 Case resolved.

Hello,I have flashed my laptop's BIOS with the tool from the support page, I can see that the new BIOS version is installed (0ZCN26WW), but the EC version is different (0ZEC25WW).I have even enabled the BIOS rollback feature so I could flash it twice as I've seen in a different post, but still no good luck. Is this a normal behaviour? Should let it be, or do I have to do anything else? Thanks,Alex

HiAfter unsuccessful BIOS update I made a brick from my G780. Maybe notfully. SYmptoms are below. When I pressing power ON button I hear a fan, HDD and DVD and led frompower, battery lights on, and led from hdd blinks one time. After thatnumlock's led is on. On screen I see nothing. It is just black. Even indark room when I'm flashing directly on it still see nothing. In thisstate Laptop react for pressing capslock or numlock buttons andchanging their state ON/OFF. I tried to do emergency BIOS flashing by unplugging AC, holding Fn-Band then power button. FAN is spinning on highest speed, pendrive thatI used blinks one time and after about 10 seconds starting flashingwith led for 20 or more seconds. I seems like reading bios QIWG5.binfile, but after those 20 seconds nothing happens. I read that G780should make one short beep, and after a while should start beeping ininterval several times. Instead of this is only silence and after a fewminutes shutting down without success. Symptoms are still like insecond paragraph. I tried every USB port, with or without battery, original BIOS that wasbefore update, this new bios. Pendrive is formatted in FAT16.Any suggestions about what else can I do?Best regards, Peter*sorry for my English I didn't use it since school)
