Outlook Express loading slowly

Q: Outlook Express loading slowly

I have OE 6, and recently it has been loading emails really slow, I have a spamfighter but I seem to get about 300 junk emails a day and they first load to my inbox and then after about 5 seconds they automatically go to the spam folder but it takes about 20 mins to load emails everytime I open outlook to check mail.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently ran Norton Systemworks One Button Checkup and after that Outlook Express is taking about 45 seconds to load. I have had no problems that are like this in the recent past. The problems that were found with the check up were......

Program Integrity....Missing Files...DotNetInstaller.exe cannot access a necessary file....mscoree.dll. Twice.

Virus Definitions....I ran the fix and it started fixing and then stopped like 5 times and told me to run it again. It never completed and I figured that it was because I have and outdated Norton program and didnt buy the new one.

Any help is appreciated.

My Outlook Express 6.0 has always worked perfectly. All of a sudden, it takes 2+ minutes to open the application. I tried to do a system restore back to when it was working, and this helped for a day, but when I got back on the next day, it was back to opening very slowly. Most of the help that I've seen on message board with regards to this issue relates to Windows 98, not XP - can anyone please help me with this?

When was the last time that you defragmented your hard disk? This could be one of the reasons.

My outlook express responds so slowly now and I don't know what I did. Had a virus, fixed it and thought perhaps it had damaged system files. I ran sfc, uninstalled OE and re installed it. Still slow. I cleaned up my hardrive every way I could think of. I read up on 16 vs.32 FAT but don't know what or how to do it or how to check which I have now. Can you think what might be making OE respond so slowly? Thanks.

I am having a problem with my Outlook Express. The program itself opens fine. I have it go directly to the inbox and usually whatever email is highlighted opens quickly in the lower window.
Something has changed in the last month or so. The program seems to freeze and takes forever to open the message, whatever it is, in the lower window. Even simple text can cause it fits.
Is there some cashe I should clean? The deleted files are dumped upon exit. Sent messages are kept fairly clean, only retaining 6 months or so and the inbox is carrying only about 30 messages.

Hi imjameshi and welcome to TSF!!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download Index.dat Suite to clean out all the temp folders. Do not run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Good day. I have Outlook Express version 6.0, running on Win98. I use my Comcast email account. I have recently been accessing my email via the web, and not downloading the email to my OE, as I wanted to be able to access it whereever I am. However, I have too many messages, and it is takes too much time to clean up the mail on the web. Thus, I wanted to download the messages to my PC through the Outlook Express.

However, the mail is being received extremely slowly, taking 10-20 seconds per email. This compares to a time of maybe a second several months ago.

Has anyone experienced this problem, and know a solution, or at least what the problem might be caused by?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi everyone,

Outlook Express V.6 SP1 keeps on crashing all the time while loading with the following message:

I reinstalled Internet Explorer to no avail.

I reinstalled Outlook Express to no avail.

I reinstalled Windows XP to no avail.

I tried to rebuild the registry for Outlook Express to no avail
(i.e. "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg)

I tried Microsoft's file checker to no avail
(i.e. >sfc /scannow)

What do I do next? Buy a new PC perhaps?

I think the registry is corrupted but is there a way to bypass the registry checking?

I recently started using outlook express to check my hotmail account along with my student email account. It ran just fine for the first few days. Then I removed MSN messenger from my computer and since then the prog has been acting a little silly. It takes a long time to load up in comparison to the rest of my software. Also, from what I can tell, whenever I receive and email I always get two copies of it. Any advice?

I'm running XP Pro and from what I understand the full blown version of Outlook is on the Office XP Pro discs and I have all of those.

A:Outlook Express loading prob

You may have deleted a file that was being shared by both. Try reinstalling msn messenger and then uninstalling it again. When it prompts you that there is a file that may be in use by another program do you still want to delete it select no. This is probably the simplest solution to test though I can not guarantee it will work but you've got nothing to lose in trying it.

You can download msn messenger at this link:

A:Outlook Express: Loading Slow

How many emails are stored in OE? The more emails stored, the slower OE is to open.

Use DBXtract to save emails OUTSIDE of OE as eml files. Say you've got a folder in OE named Business. The actual location of this "folder" is in the C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{bunch of alphanumerics}\Microsoft\Outlook Express folder, as the FILE named Business.dbx.

The single FILE actually contains all the emails you've saved in the FOLDER within OE. Extracting the emails so that each one is a separate eml file will allow you to store them "off-site", so to speak and speed up OE opening. In addition, if your OE is set up correctly, then double-clicking on an eml file will cause OE to open the file and display the email message.

Obtain DBXtract here:

Hi,

If you run the Hardware Diagnostics you might be able to find the cause of this continuous Slow Hard drive issues.
Further I would suggest you to run scan of good Antivirus and spyware which might be able to pick some infections from your system. Try to disable some start up items by going into MSCONFIG.

My firefox inexplicably stopped working properly recently. There are certain webpages that fail to load whatsoever (espn.com, for instance), and there are other webpages that load extremely slowly (somethingawful.com, for instance). Both of these websites work fine on IE.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox but that didn't cure the situation. I have Symantec antivirus and it is always running. I don't usually download any sort of file that should put my computer in jeopardy, but I cannot figure out why it's running so poorly recently.

I hope I'm attaching all of the correct files:

Oh, also, file attachments don't work in Firefox or IE.

Hey guys, for the past 2 days everything I have loaded ranging from Youtube Videos/ Normal Google webpages/ buffering twitch streams has being going really slow or just not loaded at all, before these 2 days everything would load pretty fast and I would not see any problems whatsoever. If i searched for something on Google now and clicked on a link I would most likely see a blank white screen forever more until I clicked refresh to see it load instantly, sometimes if I left it it would come up saying 'This Webpage is not available'. Furthermore with YouTube videos I cannot buffer videos as quick as I once could, It would either come up with a black screen or crash 1/10 of the way through the video, also for Twitch.tv I can barely even watch streams now as It will just be a grey screen with 'loading video' at the bottum just for it to come up and say 'failed to load video', dont get me wrong, sometimes I will be able to perfectly load a video on YouTube/twitch but for these last 2 days that is a rarity. I have noticed that it is sometimes to do with what I have previously clicked on, for example if I clicked on a youtube video/webpage before It will load fine, sometimes not but you get the draft (I know this is to do with cookies but before these 2 days I didn't have any problems loading webpages or buffering YouTube videos on 720p, now I would start on 360p and if I changed that to 720p it will probably not buffer fast enough)

If you use Nvidia shield products to stream your PC games, you will have to wait a few minutes until it starts up again after boot or manually start this service to get that functionality back. Only select disable if you do not care for this feature.

For some reason my IE has become very slow at loading web pages. I downloaded Opera: no problems there, loads pages very quickly. So I don't know what is going on with my IE. I have deleted the temp files, then I alternately ran a 'Find' and searched for '*.tmp' and deleted all that came up (except for half a dozen that the system wanted to keep for whatever reason.) Also deleted the cookies from the cookie file. However, I still had a problem. Then I defraged the system. But that didn't help either. Would anyone have any comments, suggestions, or ideas on how to correct this problem?

Download Spybod S&D and scan your PC for spyware.

Try to repair IE from add/remove programs if it shows there.

Think also if you have put any add-on or pop-up stopper lately, sometimes they don't work well...

They have updated the site but the new site hangs a lot when loading. I think it may have something to do with the enormous amount of javascript they are using in the code - especially for loading images.

I have used both Firefox and IE but the problem occurs with both browsers.

Is there any technical help anyone can offer if it is just my computer having these problems.

Very Best Wishes

Jrob

I just went to that link in Firefox with a DSL connection and it loaded in a blink of an eye. One of two things I can think of for you; 1. Your internet connection at the time is just really sluggish, 2. Your computer is just really slow - maybe too many programs open and running at the same time.

Folks need help:
I have asked guru friends and we are all stumped. I use a local movie theater to determine movie schedules www.starcinema.com and the web site loads very slowly. I have reported the issue to the webmaster but they cannot duplicate this issue. Also, I then opened my laptop (this computer is connected to directly to the cable wireless router then out to a cable modem) wireless and the page loads very quickly.

The computers are pretty similar in software. I do keep all my computers updated. Here is the source code for the web site.

I had a similiar problem after I had replaced my wireless router. I noticed I had two TCP/IP in my Wireless Network Connection properties and removed the one with the version. Go to Control Panel/Network Connections/Right click on Wireless Network Connections/Click on Properties/On the general look in the window labeled "This connection used the following items" see if you have two Internet ProTocols (TCP/IP) and remove the one with the version.

I just bought a new PC (Compaq, P4-2.7g, 200g HD, 512m Ram running WXP Home). Whenever I tried to load a webpage the system resource usage spikes to 100% shared between the SYSTEM process and whatever browser I am using at the time (WAOL, IEExplorer, etc). This can last for anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes for a page with many links. After the page has been loaded it flies. It seems like the it is trying to load the page and all its links into memory before releasing resources. I have talked with AOL support, optonline support and Microsoft support and tried all their scripted fixes to no avail. HELP!!!

I am having this issue since 20 days. I have a 4mbps connection and sites are loading quite slowly since they were a month ago. Some sites even take 3-4 whole minutes to load with "static- hw.www.123456.com",and some video players will take extra 20-30 seconds than usual to load, some features/options/thumbnails on some sites wont even load, like the one on imdb where you can add a movie to your watchlist, that icon isnt loading at all. Please help

The problem started when I download some file with virus/spyware in it. Gave me a couple of problems, then I started looking for solution online and I looked at some solutions and I went to "internet options > connections >lan settings" and I unchecked the "use a proxy server for your LAN". Other than that I ran virus scan with my Bitdefender Total Security 2016 and got rid of all the infected files,I even used Malwarebytes and CCleaner. All the issues were resolved except this one,my anti virus is showing that my PC is in good condition.

I don't know if this is normal, but everytime i connect a USB portable hard drive or flash drive and access the drive, the icons start to show slowly and then it will load quickly afterwards. But after the drive is removed and connected again (tomorrow for example) the icons shows slowly again as if the icon cache is not being used.

A:icons loading slowly

Hi LM2008, see if this helps.

Open Windows Explorer. Click Organize, then click Folder and search Options. Click the View Tab and select Always show icons, never thumbnails and select OK.

If this doesn't help try running an SFC Scan or Rebuilding the Icon Cache.

Lastly, if none of the above helps I would run a Malwarebytes and MSE Scan

Alright, so. I have been visiting this one site for a good four years now and all of a sudden (three days ago) the site started loading extremely slow (40-60 seconds for each page). All other websites load as they normally do, but this one site has been lagging.

Both my laptop and desktop are experiencing the same issue. When I googled for an answer, someone had said it may have to do with the router and to change a few letters on the router MAC address (something about visiting the site too much on both computers and causing confusion somewhere along the connection). I did so and got knocked off my internet, but I thought it was going to work out anyways since another option was to reset the router (which I did). Still though, this one website won't load. I talked to members on the forum and the forum heads about if there were any server changes, but they said none and everything was working fine on their end.

I was also using IE, so I downloaded google chrome, yet I'm experiencing the same problem. And I emptied the cache and cookies.

Hopefully this all makes sense... thanks!

I thought I had solved the "slow" problem with this Dell Latitude D410 by installing the maximum RAM. However, the following window keeps popping up when XP loads:

"Verify application requirements. This may take a few moments.

TAG: 2CHHQB1

Upgraded from 512MB to 2GB RAM.

For some reason, it seems to load slower than before. I had performed a tune-up consisting of CCLEANER registry cleaner and did all the fixes. I have re-installed what Ccleaner removed thinking that may be the problem and it isn't. I had performed a defrag with Defraggler. I deselected a few start-up items and have since re-enabled them. I also ran Spybot, Malwarebytes and Webroot virus scan and subsequent removal. I have uninstalled Webroot. but kept Spybot on and downloaded and installed WSE.

I guess I am not sure what is left to do. I am primarily interested, however, in stopping the alert window about verifying application requirements. Any ideas would be great—short of fixing it with a hammer, if you know what I mean?

Thanks

If you used a registry cleaner that might be why theres a problem. we dont recommend using any of those programs because they can end up damaging the operating system to the point where all you can do is a complete reinstall.

Hi,
I recently followed some advice and removed Norton Security using the Norton removal program. I then installed Grisoft Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware. I have not installed a firewall other than Microsoft's but I am behind a router. I have basically the same set up on my home computer (which recently had the hard drive replaced) and have no problems with loading speed.
Don't know if this info is helpful but I have:
Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, 1300 MHz, 1.29 GHZ, 512 MB of RAM, SP2, Intermet Explorer 7.0. Hard drive is 12.0 GB of used space and 21.2 GB of available space.
I am still having problems with web pages loading slowly but not as bad as when Norton was the problem. Pages used to load quickly when I would deactivate Norton. Now it just takes a couple minutes to load a page for no reason that I can determine. Thanks in advance for for any help and advice!

]Hey,

using Firefox or Internet Explorer, http://drift.ijji.com and http://www.evga.com are loading VERY slowly. All other sites are loading at normal speed, and yesterday http://drift.ijji.com was still loading at normal speed too. I haven't been to evga before, so I don't know about that. Even in the google cache http://www.evga.com/products is loading slow as hell/not at all.

Anything I could try? And could any other people check if the sites are loading at normal speeds for them?

Have you tried refreshing your PC? This will find any errors in Windows without deleting or modifying your apps or files.

To do this on Windows 8.1:
PC Settings > Update and Recovery> Advanced Startup

After Advanced Startup click 'Troubleshoot' and then click 'Refresh'

To do this in Windows 8:
PC Settings > General > Refresh your PC

Please note you will need your installation media (USB or CD you used to install Windows) to preform this task.
You will also need administrative privileges.

So my windows is installed on my SSD and up until 2 days my windows would load up very fast. as of right now i am having alot of issues with that. to describe it, its like my windows freezes for 15-20 second after loading up into desktop where as i even open up start and type anything nothing would show up and i cant even get back to desktop.
before you ask here are the things ive done so far.
ssd benchmark test
malware/antivirus/tds check =0 result
checking startup app startup and turning off as much as i could
sfc scannow command / disk clean up/disk optimization/disk error
removing recently installed program such as my new router (linksys n600) setup (which i think issue started after installing it)
ive tried anything that i could think off but my windows seems to freeze for 15 second before loading up the rest of start up apps like mouse keyboard program etc, does anyone know what could be the issue?

Hi, I joined these forums for the specific purpose of finding a solution to this problem i have that's driving me insane
simply, whenever i open up My Pictures, for a while the folder just sits there, with the default folder icons and the image type icons (as opposed to the actual thumbnails corresponding with the picture/folder)
then after about a minute the pictures all start to show up, fairly quickly, and after about 30 more seconds the folder icons begin showing up properly..
during this whole process my cpu usage goes up to 100% and my other programs naturally slow down.
i have already tried making sure i cache thumbnails, but it doesn't work

similarly, in other folders too, when i download a new picture or movie and then open up that folder, even after the other pictures take a while to load, the new picture takes an even longer period of time to load
and if i download like 10 pictures this becomes a problem because it just goes one by one down the list, like 30 seconds for each subsequent thumbnail to load

btw i use windows xp home edition
and i have about 1gig ram and 2.8Ghz processor so my computer capabilities should not be the issue.. i think?

the problem has been occuring for a long while now, and i don't remember there being a day when i installed or did anything for this to start happening...

i know it's a long description but i'm just telling you everything i can, in the hopes that someone could help me

i've also run anti-spy... Read more
