T450 battery #1

Q: T450 battery #1

Hello, I have a very lightly used T450 laptop and the internal battery #1 is not being recognized by the laptop. I have read in other forums on other devices that the connection might be loose. It is under warranty but I have no Lenovo service center near me. How difficult is it to access battery #1 inside the laptop to check on the connections? Is there a detailed diagram / instructions someone can point me to? If I do this, will it invalidate my warranty (I have nearly two years left). Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: T450 battery #1

here's the manual:

https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t450s_hmm_en_sp40g54937_01.pdf

There is no way the battery can become disconnected by itself. The connection is very secure. If you remove the bottom cover, the internal battery is obvious and easy to access. You won't affect the warranty unless you break something taking it apart or removing parts

I have a ThinkPad T450 with a built-in and external batteries.  Is there a setting in the BIOS or in the Lenovo suite of software where one could set how the batteries behave when they're being used? I'd like for the external battery to drain first so that I could then switch it for a different one before using the internal one.  It's always easier to replace the external battery vs. having to remove the bottom case entirely to access the internal one.

Hello, I am getting a refurbished T450 tomorrow however it has not had a new battery put in it. If I find it needs a new battery (any size) does anyone know the battery part number or maybe have a link to where I can buy one? Thanks

Hello and welcome,

I can at least get you started with part numbers.  The T450 can have an optional internal battery plus one of 3 different sizes of external battery.

It is just like my Thinkpad T450 can't see more than one battery. If I click the battery icon I can see that battery 1 is 100 % and full charged but it is like it is battery 2 which is used and when it is below 20 % warning pops up. Battery 1 is still at 100 %. Lenovos test program find both batteries ok and the cycle count for the main battery is 129 and the secondary battery is 400. I am not quite sure which battery is the main battery. Have others experienced this? Using T450 and Windows 10 with latest updates. Peter

Hi all, I recently acquired a very-nearly-new Thinkpad T450 (i5 5300, 8GB) but I have found that under Windows 10 power options it shows the removable battery at 100% (after charging) but the internal battery is "not available for use". I have checked the BIOS for options to activate it without success. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Thanks, Tim

I recently bought a new T450 which originally had Windows 7 installed. After getting it I upgraded to Windows 10. I've noticed that the battery charges correctly when it's mostly charged, but if I am not plugged in and both batteries (internal + external) get low, then I plug the machine it, the battery won't charge. The system tray will say "Plugged in, not charging" and the power light will constantly blink (sometimes consistent rapid blinks, sometimes long-short blinks). I bought a second external battery with the machine. When I'm in this state, if I swap to the fresh battery the computer will instantly start charging correctly. If I leave the machine charging for a while (15-30 min) then swap in the depleted battery, it will now start charging correctly. It seems as though if I didn't have the second battery I might in a really bad spot. FWIW I've tried installing "Lenovo Power Management Driver for Windows 10" and the "Lenovo Settings" app for Windows 10 that has controls for the battery. Does anyone have an idea of what is going on here? Should I downgrade back to Windows 7? Thanks in advance.

My T450 has an issue with the battery sometimes charges 100% but sometimes only 60% I already recalibrated twice but always got the same result if charge 100% only get 2 hours of charge. The battery has an internal and a extra battery that suppously gives me 8 hours in full charge. Is this an issue with the driver o with the battery? Thanks for the help.

Hello,After shutting down with my battery around <12% when I next tried to boot my power button flashed 3 times and the laptop failed to power up.  I reset the CMOS and my laptop worked again. However, when ever I shutdown or suspended the laptop the power would reboot and the machine would turn back on by itself a couple of seconds later. I have now updated the BIOS but this did not help, nor did turning off wake up from LAN. I once removed the battery but this resulted in my original issue and I had to reset the CMOS again. Now aftering disabling the battery in BIOS, I am again unable to boot even after plugging in the power cable. This time resetting CMOS has not worked in getting my laptop to boot. Now I am also seeing the keyboard lights for fn, mute and mute mic all lit up even when the battery is removed and the power cable is unplugged.  Can I get it to boot again, given the CMOS trick no longer works? Thank You

Hello, I bought a used T450 with Type 20BU. I assumed that every T450 would have an internal battery, but when I installed an OS it only noticed one battery. Some research on the parts-page of Lenovo showed me that Type 20BU obviously doesn't have an internal battery. I really like the idea of having one, so my question is: Will I be able to order a replacement battery and just put it in there? Or is there no space left for an internal battery?I don't really want to open up my new laptop to check and maybe someone here know this or even has done something like this before..  Thanks in advance for your answers!

Does anyone know if it's possible to acquire this part online? I noticed yesterday that the number 2 battery release slider on my T450 was split in half along its length. I have absolutely no idea how this happened as I'm very gentle with the machine. Here's the working latch and the latch with the broken piece removed. After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

We have ~60 Thinkpad T450's deployed, periodotically some of them do this weird thing when the users try to wake them up, the volume mute, microphone mute and FN key are all lit, but the screen is off. No matter what we do, we cannot power the machine on/off (not sure of it's state, even holding the button for prolonged periods does nothing). The only solution I have found is to unscrew the back cover and pull the secondary battery, which isn't practicle, espically if a user is traveling. When the laptop comes back on, there is no error in event viewer. Not too sure what's going on?

Currently I have x230, but need to invest in a new battery for it (some 40 for a genuine one) so not sure If I want to do that since I have had this laptop for a long time now and I'm kinda looking for a larger screen as well and extra battery run-time you get with the new series wouldn't be too bad either.I have been waiting for a moment when the t450 drops in price and you can get one for around 300 now which still has got some 2+years warranty, and I can sell my x230 for some 200 probably. so sounds like a good very cheap upgrade...however...I watched some video today where the guy had opened up a t450 and did and ssd/ram upgrade and It finally hit me- That laptop looks like some cheap chinese pokemon toy compared to x230 or t430 which I also have + it hasn't got the thinklight anymore and generally the t450 looked just very cheaply made.. I get it that it's slimmer and smaller but it just looked sooo cheaply made in the videos I saw So I'm not too sure anymore if I want to even get the t450 because it looked like a cheap pokemon toy compared to x230/t430 I have What about the t460 does it got better/more solid build quality than the t450 or they are about the same? I'm not looking at the t440 because I see the internet is full about reports about how bad they are.. Probably next year this time the t460 would cost some 300 as well if a new model gets released so I might as well wait for it to drop in price if I get something way better in build quality over the t45... Hello everyone! Not sure if this is an issue but it's surely annoying to know, that battery N1 drains at 5% and the other stays at 100%. Is it possible for a mixed discharge between both batteries ?After all the LIFE of the first battery (while using battery only power) is shortened a lot! Is there any option in LENOVO VANTIGE that I am no aware of ?I looked everywhere and i can't find anything.. Bios latest update 1.30 Thank you very much!

A:T470s BATTERY 1 drains to 5%, BATTERY 2 stays at 100% (BATTERY PRIORITY)

Sorry  but see below post.  Basically you cant set discharge order.  The laptop checks battery wear and bases discharge order on that.  Many people including myself have asked for a BIOS switch or at least an option on discharge order but nothing has happened so far and I dont think its going to happen either.  I do not speak for Lenovo..

Hi guys. I have a T470 and after the latest Windows update I encountered a battery naming issue. Before the update batteries had proper order and were named accordingly: battery 1, battery 2, no surprises here. But after the update I noticed the order has changed to battery 0, battery 1 (attached pic below) Yeah yeah, I understand arrays start at zero but what is that? I was just wondering is it just me or you guys have the same situation going on with your batteries? Is there a way to change the order back to "normal"? .

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

I recently bought my third Thinkpad, a T450 off ebay to replace my X230 for studying. It's an i7 model with 8GB RAM and a 256gb SSD. It still has nearly 2 years remaining on the extended warranty. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find it had a 1080p IPS screen already fitted (was planning to upgrade it) - did Lenovo ever ship the T450 with this? It's a late model one, did they introduce it later on in the machine's life cycle? There aren't any visible signs of the screen having been replaced and the seller never mentioned anything (I thought it was coming with the TN HD panel) and the brightness controls in Windows work as they should do on a clean Windows install.

When I close the lid of my computer, it makes the alert noise as if you unplugged a device. When I open the lid, it makes the alert noise as if you plugged in a new device. The screen takes a few seconds to turn on, and all of my windows which were open will be resized, and all of my desktop icons are rearranged.Happens every time I open or close the lid, and it's been about a week now.About two months ago, I actually sent this in to Lenovo for some repair from a drop, and they replaced just some plastic parts of the shell and the keyboard. It worked fine when I got it back, and once the screen is on, it continues to work fine. I'm mentioning this because I don't think the screen is becoming physically unplugged, it looks like it is in top shape after the repairs. Any thoughts?-Matt

A:T450 DDR4 option

Hi rshair,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you have query regarding memory upgrade to DDR4 in your ThinkPad T450
The quick answer would be no as DDR4 RAMs is not backwards compatible with DDR3 motherboards and vice versa. And also the notch has been moved to prevent accidental insertion of the wrong type of memory. Instead of 204 pins, each module features 260 pins in DDR4 Memory.

I hope the above information helped you.

Hi everybodyI am having some random issues with the wifi on my Lenovo T450.  It sometimes goes really slow or completely drops off connection while other devices on the same network keep working fine. This happens on both windows (where I have installed the latest drivers) and Linux (same, althought they are still quite old as far as I can see). In Linux it seems that rebooting fix the problem almost every time (while trying to reset the wifi only by "service network-manager restart/reload/force-reload" does not), but for windows sometimes it isn't enough (indeed in past months I'm using mainly linux also for this issue).  I'm fearing it is a hardware problem, but does anybody has alternative ideas?  thanks!
