IE9 won't stop remembering a password!

Q: IE9 won't stop remembering a password!

I have an account on a website that is quite important; it is a https site. It remembers my username and password, so I went to Internet options and deleted the history, passwords, cookies etc. I also edited the options to "don't remember passwords or data entered into forms etc" but the problem still persists. The people who manage that site told me it's not a problem of which they are aware either.

I would try a different web browser but neither chrome nor firefox seem to support all the functions of this site. If I am missing something obvious or if anyone has anything else worth trying please do let me know......thank you.

Preferred Solution: IE9 won't stop remembering a password!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Aol settings are to delete history /cookies etc. on exit and in IE8 too, yet every time I sign on to Aol an old web page opens and other history has been saved.

I've manually deleted everything yet it still doesn't change the outcome.

I found a small utility prog called History Sweep which is a trial version supposed to sweep clean Aol but even that didn't work as when I rebooted, the same sites were there!

Does anyone know of a more aggressive cleaner that can be set to work in the background and auto clean history without having to do it each time I sign on/off?

I'd like to make it so windows explorer (not IE, I'm talking about the file browser) doesn't show suggestions when entering locations in the address bar. For example, when entering C: in the address bar, all the most recent locations are listed (for convenience I guess). Let's just say that this convenience could become a big inconvenience...lol

A:Stop windows explorer remembering locations?

Hi, I spent ages looking for an answer to this but I simply can't find one (mainly because Google seams to think Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer are the same thing).

However I have found a possible work around.
The following thread details how to clear Windows Explorer history Clear Windows Explorer history in Windows 7 - How to , it recommends using CCleaner available from CCleaner - Home
Hope this is of use.

There must be a way to permanently disable this, I will keep looking.

Using Eventghost I have setup a command to open a Video folder on monitor 2 (HDMI connected Sony Bravia)
I also have installed and use Display Fushion to manage my monitors.
My problem is that Windows Explorer seems to want to remember its last opened location so that I now find even if I open any other folder on my PC it displays straight to my TV screen (Monitor 2).
Only after dragging the opened folder back to my PC monitor and then closing it all other folders open as normal on my PC but also the programmed Eventghost macro video folder. This fails to open on TV unless dragged back to TV and then I?m back to the problem again of all folders opening on TV.
I basically just want Eventghost to do its thing without Windows then remembering and making all future folders opening on Monitor 2 (TV).
Hope I?ve explained this clearly enough.

A:Stop Windows Explorer remembering the last monitor is was opened on

Solved my own problem so though I'd write for others just in case.

Installed free software called MultiMonitor, this gives the option of creating a command line to switch connected monitor off and on.

When in the off state folders open normally on PC, switch monitor back on and the folder dedicated to open on connected monitor still does.

my wife told me i needed a new laptop for Christmas and Anniversary so i could give our daughter my old laptop...

as i set up my bookmarks and login information, as long as my browsing session remains 'in force' my website favorites remember my login information. once i exit firefox, all of that info is blown out...

ive gone through the options and tools and such for firefox and ive got the 'remember passwords for sites' box checked under security but to no avail...

i have the history shut off (as i did in my old versions) so im wondering if they have made it mandatory to keep the history (new method of tracking cookies?) if so that really blows...

Hello all,

I help out part-time at my local library. One of our research stations (Win2k), just can't seem to remember the login/password info for a site we frequently access. We make sure the "save password" box is checked when logging in. After IE is closed and restarted, when a patron tries to log in, the username/password fields are blank, even though we saved it previously.

We have that info saved on our other research stations and the info never gets lost. It's just this one problem system. All the systems are running Win2K and have latest IE version and updates. All the settings are near identical.

The site in question is www.corptech.com. It is the login part to their secure site. It is a research database in which we allow patrons to access. That is why we keep all the login/password info saved, so patrons can go directly into the site. The problem system can never remember this info, so we always have to retype the info to login, which is a hassle.

I have double-checked the settings (autocomplete, privacy settings etc.), run adware/spyware/virus scans and uninstall/reinstalled IE. I'm still having this password problem. I downloaded Firefox and the password manager remembers the info successfully everytime. But not IE on this one system. So it seems to me something is wrong with IE. I have even tried clearing all the cache, cookies, temp files, then reattempting to login and save the info. It still isn't remembering.

I'm a new Skype user (Skype Portable) and the only way I can get Skype to remember my password is to not sign out but use the Quit Skype option when right-clicking the taskbar entry. I found this by doing a global search.

Doing this leaves me signed in to Skype (Task Manager shows the two Skype entries), so I'm wondering if this could be a problem, security wise.

Also, if anyone does know of a way to get Skype to actually remember the password, maybe adding a line to an ini file (appinfo.ini ?) I'd sure like to know.

I have an older Gateway Performance 1300 desktop that I inherited. There is a password on it that has to be put in before it will even go to setup. I assume it is a computer password rather than an XP password (running XP Home SP3) but I can find no way to turn it off. In the setup, it says supervisor password uninstalled, user password installed, and below it has places to put in both passwords. I guess if it is the user password, I could change it, but I see no way to turn it off. No one else uses the computer and there is no need for this password, it is just an aggravation.

Any help on how to turn it off would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Do you have the owner/user manual?

You could also go here:

and enter the serial number on the back of the case. You may be able to download a manual there.

That model is over 10 years old, you may have difficulty finding support documentation.

The basic approach would be to reset the BIOS/CMOS jumper pin on the motherboard, IMO.

My question is whether using a password manager would prevent a keylogger from stealing passwords.

I thought that as a password manager pastes the passwords directly into your browser then it wouldn't give much chance for a keylogger to record keystrokes or copy things from the system memory.

Any thoughts about this ?

as well as this for the password issue:

"Log on to your computer as an administrator. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. - Click Performance and Maintenance. - Click Power Options. - Click Advanced tab. - Under “Options” section, uncheck the check box for Prompt for password when computer resume from standby opton."

ive seen this suggested over and over and have applied the steps in both my limited account and in the admin account. still keeps doing the same thing.

Feels like your keyboard is malfunctioning.
That its in somekind of loop during bootup. Try with another keyboard.

Or do the super-duper solution. Reset your CMOS Its the big round battery on your mobo. Just jank that out, wait 5-10 sec, plug it back in.
That should erase any unwanted actions from the bootup.

If its a desktop, kinda hard to do that on a laptop. And if you havent done it before, use caution and google how to. Never start fiddeling in a open computercase if you havent done it before.

You might need to tick the Remember Passwords box under the Passwords tab for this feature to work.

I accidentally deleted all my passwords the other day in FF, and now the few I have in it, sometimes it's remembering and sometimes it's not and I have to look up and type in. I've looked at the passwords and they're supposed to be in there; however, sometimes showing and other times won't show even with closing tabs and windows and reopening.

Anyway to fix this?

It wasn't a problem before.

A:FF not always remembering passwords

Do you happen to be using any Ccleaner software related by chance? Is the option Remember passwords for sites checkmarked?
