Want to delete an entry in People app

Q: Want to delete an entry in People app

Newbie to Windows 8.1!!! Set up all email addresses in Internet Explorer in mail.google.com > Contacts. Wanted people in People app to be listed alphabetically so found I had to place the last name in the first name Google 'block' and the first name in the last name 'block' on mail.google.com That's OK. All contacts in the People app had their Skype info included. However, I added a Skype contact (for which I already had entered an email address) after I did the above but it didn't show up in the People app until the next day. The problem was that now, this contact had two entries in the People app (one had only the email address and the other had the email address and the Skype info. The entry with the Skype info is titled by the Proper Name. The entry with an email address only was also listed in the People app - last name first. But now, I had two entries with the same name. Being a newbie, I tried to correct this by trying to delete the Name with only the email address (in the people app, it is now listed by its' email address, not its' Proper Name due to my attemp to correct the duplication. Couldn't do it - don't know why. So I went back into Google contacts and tried to change the 'duplication.' Ended up with a duplicate again - except that the duplicate (which I want to delete) is listed in the People app by its' email address - not its' Proper Name' like all the other contacts. Also, this entry does not have the Skype info associated with it. Please help me delete this entry. Thank you..........

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You can only delete your Hotmail or Outlook contacts from the People app. If you've connected other accounts like Google, Facebook, or Skype, then you'll need to go to that app or website to delete those contacts.

Hi,
Although my main Laptop uses Windows 7, I have a second laptop which has Windows 8 installed and I am trying to find a way to delete a contact within the 'People' page.
The contact in question appears to be linked to Facebook. If I try to delete email contacts, there is an option to do this, within the toolbar, which appears at the bottom of the screen. However, going through the same steps to try to delete a Facebook contact, the option to 'Delete' does not appear within the toolbar - only 'Home, 'Pin to Start', 'Favorites', 'Link' and 'Edit'.
Can someone please advise me how I can remove unwanted Facebook contacts from the 'People' page?

Thanks

I think I've finally gotten my niece's computer virus-free. At start up though I get the message X Windows Cannot Find the File C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\sp2vc.exe This doesn't show up in start under system configuration so I can't figure out how to get rid of this message at start up. There are a couple of those files in the registry, should I delete them? Can someone look at my hijackthis log and tell me what I should get rid of? I'm thinking I can delete:

In the pop down window with previously viewed URLs, one entry refuses to be deleted...ever!! Yes I know how to go to tools, internet options, general, and clear history. To no avail, this one (a nasty one that I don't ever think we went to) refuses to be deleted. Question is, where is this information stored on the computer and is there an override that can be employed to delete this entry? If this is a virus, it is not being picked up by Kaspersky or Panda.

A:Cannot Delete Address Bar Entry

Hi,
I would say the problem just may be not a virus, so to speak, but adware-type malware. Antivirus scans may not pick up what might be running on your computer.
To have someone check for that, do the following:

Save Hijackthis.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit EDIT then SELECT ALL then click EDIT and then click COPY, doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Open a TechSupportGuy forum Reply window for this thread, to have ready to paste the Hijackthis log into. Click once to place the typing cursor in the reply window.
At the top of your TSG/browser window, hit EDIT then PASTE
You should see your copied Hijackthis log appear in the reply space....then, submit the reply
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi Guys I originally had Win 7 on my C Drive and XP Pro on my D drive and made an entry in Easy BCD so I could dual boot. I now however have retired XP and deleted it from my D drive.

I now have only the one entry in Easy BCD ( See Pictures ) can I safely delete this entry as I don't want to be asked at boot up which Operating System I want to use as I am now only using Win 7?

Steve

A:Can I now safely delete this entry ?

No, that is the entry for Windows 7. Delete that and your system won't boot.

There is no entry for Windows XP so you should not have to select which to use at boot time. Are you still seeing that?

Over the last few months my msn has been blocking and deleteing people at random and for no reason. These are people I would never dream of blocking and deleteing. I really need this problem fixed as soon as possiable, my msn contacts list is getting so small now and i'm loosing most of my contacts off msn. It has been doing the same thing on my two old msn accounts I hardly ever use and my mums msn account aswell. It's really really annoying that whenever I go online I will have to scroll down unblocking everyone who it's decided to block at random. My msn deletes about 10 people on adverage per week. Sometimes it will also change my status for me just very slightly by like putting the odd word or two in it thats not supposed to be there. On all of the accounts i've mentioned I changed the password twice and the security question so it shouldn't be someone else going into my account.

Last problem is that I have to send some of my messages more than once to friends as they think i'm not replying or ignoring them when i'm not it's actually because my messages aren't all going through. How can I fix this also?

Please help as soon as possiable!!

Thank you

I used to have a Windows phone and attached my Facebook account to the Windows phone on my Microsoft Live account. I have since gotten rid of my Windows phone but then afterwards I permanently deleted my Facebook account. I bought a new pc with Windows 8.1 and logged in with my Microsoft Live account and saw that it kept all of my old contacts from Facebook and there is no way to delete them since I no longer have a Facebook account to delete them.

Is there a way to delete contacts that are associated with Facebook if I no longer have a Facebook account? I have an Xbox Live account associated with my Microsoft Live account so I do not want to delete my Microsoft Live account. Is there any way to delete my contacts without having to delete my Microsoft Live account?

I have the following registry key that appears to do nothing but keeps re-creating itself:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

This key contains a Shell value that points to an empty directory on my system:

C:\Users\Birk\AppData\Local\bc53345c\X

If I delete this value it immediately gets recreated. If I use Autoruns to disable it, it still gets recreated. The specified folder in AppData\Local does not exist. I did a registry search for bc53345c and could not find any other instances of it, so how is it getting recreated?

I am reluctant to delete the Winlogon key because I don't know how critical it is.

Greetings!

Before posting my question I want to say you have a wonderful website and so much helpful information. I have always been the person who "fixes" computer issues for friends, family, and coworkers. I usually can help, but know when I am out of my league and when to ask for help...you only stop a running process one time when it crashes your computer!

My niece just gave me her computer to "fix" after being at college for 2 1/2 years. She knew it had problems, but even the paid "professionals" never truly got rid of her underlying issues. They just removed some of the symptoms for awhile. So, I thought "no problem". But after 30 hours of running multiple scanning softwares for multiple malware & virus issues I still wasn't getting to the root of the problems. In the meantime I found your website!!!

Today I was researching your site to figure out how to present my niece's computer issues to you. I was ready to give up. But then I read your articles and multiple user posts along with your "fixes" that had many of the same issues I was having. After several hours of research I attacked my niece's computer one more time.

I did the following four things: 1) found .dat files, renamed them to .txt, am currently changing passwords; 2) ran SDfix.exe; 3) ran vundofix.exe; and 4) removed Viewpoint Media Player. And "knock on wood" my issues appear to be resolved!!!!... Read more

A:Safe To Delete A Registy Key Entry?

Before making any changes, Always back up your registry. ERUNT is an excellent FREE tool that allows you to to take a snapshot (backup) of your registry before making changes and restore it when needed. If you are not familiar with working in the registry, then you should NOT attempt to make any changes on your own.Why not try this first. Download AutoRunsCreate a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if your not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the one you need to remove.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and it should be gone.

Can someone give me a blow by blow method of deleting registry entries.
I am stuck and tried all "possible" combinations of editing permissions but nothing seems to work.
What is the secret formula to this?

The structure looks like this:
HKLM\Software\Classes\CLSID\{ very long key}\MiscStatus\1
MiscStatus has a single subkey called 1
It (ie 1 ) cannot be opened, permission is denied. If I could delete 1, I could then delete the entire thing up to CLSID.

I have tried running regedit.exe as Administrator but that does not help.

I am running Vista 64 SP2
Thanks

Hi Jim,
Make sure you login as the Administrator for a start, and if that doesnt work, login as the Admin in safe mode. If that doesnt work set the registry key as 0 and then try.

Greetings, and I thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

I rely heavily on Norton2001 WinDoctor on my dual-boot 98se-2000 system, and until now I have always been able to deal with whatever might come up ... but this time I ended up here after doing a web search (Google) for "C8618CE4-B0B4-4D1D-8336-866A8B88B639".

Norton WinDoctor gives me this report:

------------
The key, "CLSID\{C8618CE4-B0B4-4D1D-8336-866A8B88B639}\InprocServer32," refers to a missing file, "%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe."
------------

But of course, Explorer.exe actually does exist in "D:\" as well as in "D:\WINNT" and "D:\WINNT\system32".

Any repair I attempt through Norton only brings on a "Repair FAILED" notice, and I cannot delete or modify that particular entry through RegEdit. Also, Norton's "Open Registry Editor to repair" option takes me to an altogether different InprocServer32 key.

Who or what has that key so tightly locked down, and what, if anything, should I do about Norton's error report?

Here are the files you have requested:

I got some kind of mixi dj spyware with some free soft. I successfully deleted the toolbar, however there's still an entry in the registry.
HKCU \Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{0ECDF796-C2DC-4d79-A620-CCE0C0A66CC9}

I delete it, but as soon as I refresh the registry, comes back again. Tried deleting through cmd - says there's a syntax error. Deleting in safe mode won't help as well.
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot

I ran Auslogics Registry Cleaner, and it found many errors, and deleted all but one of the registry entries. I ran it a few more times, and it was still unable to delete it. So, I went into the registry and tried to manually delete it. Regedit tells me that it is "Unable to delete all specific values". The value is like NULL string (not a NULL string pointer) or something (REG_SZ, no value set)

What else can I do to delete it?

A:Unable to delete empty registry entry

Please show scrn shot of the registry please . Showing what key you want to delete .

Hi!

After running a RogueKiller scan, it detected some suspicious but somewhat legit looking registry entries which could be the reason of my computers
slow startup speed, but for all safety I decided to post the log here and make sure they are safe to delete.

Heres the log: (only the registry part, everything else was OK)

??? Registry Entries : 4 ???
[TASK][SUSP PATH] HPSA Upgrade : C:\ProgramData\Hewlett-Packard\HPSAUpgrade3\HpSAUpgrade.exe -> FOUND
[HJ DESK] HKLM\[...]\NewStartPanel : {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee} (1) -> FOUND
[HJ DESK] HKLM\[...]\NewStartPanel : {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} (1) -> FOUND
Thanks for the advice in advance. Also, I would like to not to have to run
any Combofix like programs or anything, because I know that this machine is pretty clean.
I just want to know if these registry keys are legit.

A:RogueKiller found a registry entry: not sure if should delete it

Good evening. The first entry is for the HP Support Assistant - assuming you are using a HP computer i'd leave that one alone, unless you don't like the idea: linkyFor the other two, I have the same entries in my log so i'd consider them safe and leave them alone, or console me on the fact that we have identical infections. Hi all,
I have a requirement where I want to delete the registry entry using .bat file. I have the Administrative Privilege and I am able to delete the registry manually by right clicking on the key and then selection "Delete". The key is deleted from
the registry without any error.

But when I tried to delete  the registry entry using .bat file (batch file) I am unable to delete the key. I am clueless why the .bat file is not deleting the registry entry whereas I can delete the registry manually but not using .bat file.
The content of .bat file is:-
%SystemRoot%\system32\reg.exe delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000} /v "LowerFilters" /f
%SystemRoot%\system32\reg.exe delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000} /v "UpperFilters" /f

Please suggest me what I am doing wrong and how can I fix this issue.
Thanks for help.

[font=Arial]It seems that I have cleared Trust cleaner with norton antivirus 2006 and spyware doctor 3.8 and xoftspy4.22. Each one of them did not find any infections whatsoever, however, when I tried to delete the registry key from Hkey_Current_User\Software\TrustIn, the spyware seems to have an automatic execution from the registry that I have deleted, which the program reinstalled itself again, can anyone help to solve this problem? How can I delete the entry without the program(Trust Cleaner)reinstalls again? I have tried deleting the registry key in safemode, however when I switched back to normal mode, Trust Cleaner appeared again. With Norton antivirus 2006 and spyware doctor 3.8 and xoftspy4.22, they can find the infection but not in the registry key, therefore I need help for cleaning this infection!! Any idea?

With a laptop, we're using Sprint Mobile Broadband to connect to the net. The Sprint Smartview software has a log (Event Manager History under the Help tab), recording all connection attempts. There is an option to clear all history, but I only want to delete a few selected entries. Does anyone know how to do that? I ran a scan with Malware Bytes and it detected registry entry userinit.exe. It said it couldn't delete it and to restart the computer to delete it. I did this, but when I ran a scan with Malware Bytes, the same thing came up. Is this a virus? Is it safe to delete? If it is, how do I delete it?

A:Malware Bytes detected registry entry, but couldn't delete it

You could fully update the Malwarebytes program , reboot the computer and run the program on a quick scan , then post the reports from the previous scan and this one for someone to check for you

I work for a University as a Lab Manager where we have over 300 computers running Domain Profiles. We have begun updating from XP to 7 and started to notice TEMP profiles being created. I have figured out how to resolve the issue by going to the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurentVersion\ProfileList

and deleting the strings that have .bak at the end. What I am looking for now is a way to delete these files as an administrator through our management service Altiris. So basically I am looking for a script that would delete only profile entries that have a .bak at the end. Does anyone have an idea on how to, or now a guide on how to, accomplish this? Thank you.

A:Registry Entry to delete specific User Profile entries

A simple batch script can do the job

Code:
@echo off
COLOR 17
title BAK Removal
del /s /f c:\*.bak
pause >nul
exit
(if I have understood you, sorry if it is wrong, the path can be adjusted for your specific needs)

Is there a way when creating a Distribution List then place it in the Global Address Book, that only 2 or 3 people can open the Global Address Book and see that 1 Distribution List and not all the other users can see it.
For an example: HR Department wants to have a Full Time personnel distribution list, but only the person in HR Department can see it and all the other users can not see it when they open the GAB.
I've google it and was not able to find anything.

Thank you for your help if you provided an solution.

Help! I seem to have a few problems regarding my MSN account when using the Windows Live Messenger. For one thing, the past two times someone added me to the messenger, and that screen comes up where I can choose to add them too, and I do so, for some reason the person automatically is set on Block, as if I did it by mistake. I thought I did it by mistake the first time it happened, but then it happened the same time the next day with someone else, so I know it isn't me. Also, someone who tried to add me just a few minutes ago asked me:
(Also, are you on MSN? I don't see you on there.)
When I am signed in, Status Available, and I checked my Privacy settings, and it says that anyone can see me online and check my status, and I have [All others] on my Allow list, as well as every other option set to what looks like should make it easiest to let people add me and IM me. What could be the problem? This only seemed to start happening a couple of days ago. The only difference I can imagine affecting it is that I began using AVG (free version) for my antivirus, but I didn't change any default settings. Any help would be great! It's a shame we can't contact MSN directly anymore for help.

So I am using Outlook.com and am trying to import a list of contacts through the people App. Is there honestly no way to import a CSV file or just import more than one contact at a time? When I use the People App import feature it says "The file is empty or not in the correct format. Please choose a different file". I have researched this and made sure that the columns were set up to be First Name, Last Name, Email Address and it is saved as CSV for sure. I have about 70 contacts to import so I really dont want to type all of their info or try and copy and paste one person at a time.... Thank you!!

I'd like to remove all the contacts and accounts and start fresh. I cant find how to do that. Also removing a single contact requires a one by one removal of linked contacts. I don't know how thy got linked, but I should be able to select them all for removal in one step.

Hi
I tried to uninstall Kaspersky Internet Security v7 and my computer power cord got unplugged due to me tripping over the cord on the way to ther bathroom. So, the uninstallation was interrupted. I got the blue screen of death and it told me to restart and choose last working confirgurations and I did. I logged on to my Windows profile and couldn't find Kaspersky v7 in the add/remove section but the files are still there in the program folders. Than I decided to install Kaspersky v8 thinking everything was ok... Everything installs correctly and I am asked to restart computer. I do and get blue screen of death again... asking me to go back to last known working configurations. I do and log on. Kaspersky v8 loads up and says it "some components cannot be enabled". So, I click "Start application repair". It works and I'll restart. I get the blue screen again and I go back to last known working configurations again... I log in and Kaspersky v8 gives me the same "some components cannot be enabled" error again. I follow the same instructions and get the blue screen again. I am stuck in an endless loop. I thought my problem was simple and my request was genuine.
Yet, no one seems to be available to help me.
As of now, my computer is extremely slow and turns itself off without apparent reasons.
I rebooted at least five times since I asked for help.
It take more thna ten minutes for the whole thing to become operational again.
Sometimes more.
I tried defrag but it failed. The PC went off at 3% of the way.
Would really apreciate help.
I now have nwiz.exe entry and a few other bizarre ones.
Thanks anyways.

Brand Spanking NewbiePeople tile large and set for activeLOTs o' contacts listed when I click on tile

When I first installed Windows 8, I used my Microsoft account and the People tile was full of userpix.

Then I decided that I wanted to keep it simple, i.e. local account only. It didn't take me long to figure out why that was a bad idea so I went back and reset it to use my Microsoft account.

My people folder(?) - when I click on the people tile, my screen fills with all the contacts listed in my accounts (google, microsoft and twitter - I don't do facebook or linkedin or the others).

BUT the People tile itself remains empty. Just a red rectangle with the white people graphic. How can I get my people back in it???

A:Where are the people in my people tile?

Well, after a couple of reboots for other reasons, now the people are back in the people tile.

However, now the mail tile no longer shows unread mail.

The wifi connection (set as auto connect) never auto connects at reboot.

And IE refuses to remember my desired home screen.

I'm thinking that maybe there are some things Microsoft has yet to fix OR my ASUS UX31 Winows7 laptop did NOT want to be upgraded...

Sigh.

I can see a file by this name in the location where it says it's missing.

It doesn't seem to affect performance; it's just something that I must click every day.

I believe this is related to your Lexmark printer at least this is what Goole is leading me to believe.
You might want to check in the System Configuration Utility and uncheck the entry for your Lexmark printer or remove the printer and reinstall
