Lenovo Vantage on X1 Extreme Always shows an Nvidia Update when Bios set to Discrete

Q: Lenovo Vantage on X1 Extreme Always shows an Nvidia Update when Bios set to Discrete

On the X1 Extreme with the latest 1.17 Bios you can set it to run in Discrete graphics only mode instead of hybrid with the Intel. (You technically could prior to this bios, but it had issues that could brick the unit). Problem is if you do a frwsh install, Vantage will always show the same "Nvidia And Intel Drivers" package as available, if I had to guess because there is no Intel and it checks for that. The driver says "Installed Version:Not Available" which makes me thing there is a detection issue. The first install works fine, but it will always show up as an avalible update untill you hide it. Installing it again and again does nothing. And you can then open the Geforce experience software and it will then update to the true latest version, but Vantage will still show it as available after and if I had to guess would break something if it installed over a newer version. On a test fresh install, changing it to Hybrid and installing then changing back seems to work, but if you start out as discrete, it always shows that already installed update untill you ignore it (so this likley wouldnt of shown up in their testing as their systems were likley hybrid origonally). Just a heads up to anyone and hopfully someone who can address this sees it. Also if anyone knows a better place to just simply report bugs like this in a way where it can actually get past level 1 tech support and submitted to someone who can address these issues id love to know it.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

So it's not a huge problem, but after updating the BIOS on my T480 from V1.17 to the current release V1.24 the Lenovo Vantage tool still reports (on lower right corner of screen) that I have BIOS V1.17 installed. The update installed normally and I have verified that V1.24 is installed Boot --> F1 --> reviewed installed version. I thought you guys at Lenovo might want to check it out. I do have the current version of Vantage installed (latest version offered by the Microsoft Store for Win 10 Pro): V 4.27.32.0

Hello,I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W540 which is out of warranty.  While using the Lenovo System Update utility to update the BIOS, the BIOS update failed, and now my W540 will no longer boot.  Is there a way to restore the BIOS without replacing the system board? Is there a place where can I download the BIOS file (not only the upgrade utility)? Thank you!

I purchased this used X250 (Product Number 20CMOOE5US) last week with Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit Edition. I downloaded and installed Lenovo Vantage from Microsoft Store which is built-in in the Windows 10. The Lenovo System Update utility updated several components but failed with a BIOS update. The current BIOS version listed at the bottom of the Lenovo Vantage window is N10ET21W 0.21. I tried the stand-alone BIOS update version 1.27 downloaded from https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds102288, which also failed in the same way: the error message reads "OEM check failed from BIOS service. The utility process has not completed." I also noticed this weired label in the System Information for the processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5### CPU @ 2.2GHz 2.19GHz. I guess a BIOS update would correct the processor info. But then how do I get BIOS updated? Please advise.

In this first screenshot of Lenovo Vantage running under Windows 10 (64) on my X1 Yoga (1st generation), please notice where it says that I need to install Sierra Wireless EM7455 Software - 10 (64), version 7.47.4743.0105.  However, in the second screenshot, please notice where the Installation History shows that Sierra Wireless EM7455 Software - 10 (64), version 7.47.4743.0105 was successfully installed already. Everytime I boot up and run Lenovo Vantage to check for updates, it tells me that I need Sierra Wireless EM7455 Software - 10 (64), version 7.47.4743.0105 so I let it install it. Everytime I install it, the installation appears to be successful and my computer reboots, but then after rebooting, Lenovo Vantage again tells me that (1) I need it, (2) I already have it. This is crazy.  In the third screenshot (looking at Windows Device Manager) I see the Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A. The fourth screenshot shows that it is disabled.  I will enable this and then retry to install the updated. I'll report back in a second posting on this thread whehter it works.  (I would leave this posting open and finish it later, but I'm afraid it woud all be lost when I reboot).

A:ENDLESS LOOP: Lenovo Vantage Tells Me To Update a Driver That Vantage Says Is Already Up to Date.

After enabling the driver in Windows Device Manager, then again trying to update, the update was successful. After another reboot, Lenovo Vantage no longer show that this needs to be updated.  I'm no programmer, but it seems to me that the Lenovo Vantage update program ought to be able to see whether a driver is disabled and to tell the user to enable it in order to allow successful of updating of the driver. My 2¢.

A month ago, the Lenovo Vantage app works perfectly fine, all the functions were working perfectly.Later on, I noticed that the update function inside Vantage doesnt work anymore, every time when I run it, it said error and cannot update .A week later, after I restarted my computer (as I usually just hibernate it), I found that I cannot open the Vantage app anymore. However, the battery bar on the bottm right corner, which is provided by the Vantage, still works (including the battery threshold function). But I still did not manage to open the Vantage App.At last, I decided to uninstall the whole thing and download it again from the MS store. Unfortunately, I can never open it no matter how may times I reinstall, also the battery bar disappeared and never came back...I have searched for multiple solutions on the forum, but none of them work, I am wondering if anyone here could help me , Thank you for your time.

Uninstall Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo System Interface Foundation. After reboot install Lenovo Vantage from Microsoft store again, but not Lenovo System Interface Foundation. After opening Lenovo Vantage, there will be a link to latest Lenovo System Interface Foundation , download(should be current version) and install it.

My thinkpad X1 Extreme has been giving me trouble. I could really do with some advice from someone clever.

(1) When I run Lenovo Vantage my trackpad stops working. I need to restart before it will work again.
(2) It doesn't recognize some usb peripherals (which work fine with other machines)

So I used Windows restore - no change.

I download recovery software - not an easy task but after going through 4 clueless customer service people I found a guy who told me how to get past a web-glitch - and restore to original factory.

After restpre to Factory - Lenovo Vantage still borks the trackpad
The USB peripheral in question still won't work
And now there a pink tint to text whenever I scroll. It makes working in Word really annoying.

Is there any way I can fix these things? I have veyr little faith in lenovo support. I do have on site next day warranty but again, my trust level with Lenovo support is very low. I'm a little past the 30 days in which I can return and tbh I love the machine  so want to keep if possible.

Any advice? Did I just get a lemon? Is Lenovo Vantage freezing trackpad a common issue? Is the pink text while scrolling a color calibraton issue that can be fixed? Should I bite the bullet, call customer service again and try to set up a repair?

Thanks so much for any advice!

This is a first - just rebuilt a 3+ year old Yoga 50014ISK with a clean install of Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 updates and come to install Lenovo Vantage. Except it won't install any updates which is unusual. I suspect it's because it can't find the product number as shown in the screenshot below. I'm not too worried as this laptop is only been used for remote support at a client site and running some backup software. The Windows driver updates are going on fine. But just wondered if why this has happened and whether it's possible to fix.

Dear all, i just want to share this issue i faced with my Lenovo X1 Extreme gen 2. Previously i am running on discrete graphics. All is fine until i was prompt for an Bios Update which i horribly regretted to approve updating my bios. After updating my bios to 1.26. my brightness function is not working. Broken. Bricked. I do see the bar and slider moving up while pressing Fn+F6 and down using F5 but the screen brightness does not change.  I tried reinstalling the following 1. HotKey drivers2. Intel Graphic Drivers3. Nvida Drivers 4. Lenovo Power Managemen5. Thinkpad Monitor display driver but none works.  Ultimately, i went to bios to switch from Discrete graphic to Hybrid graphics and it is working.  So whoever out there reading this, please understand the risk and shortcoming of this broken bios update for x1 extreme gen 2.  To Lenovo Support or programmers: Please identify and fix this bug and release a patch for this issue. thanks

Hi all, I'm sorry if this has been asked before but there was a TON of options in Lenovo Vantage to help out customize the audio with my machine... There was that huge update with Lenovo Vantage and it used to be a great tool, now it's garbage in my opinion to be honest. I mean it seems like the options are all gone? Especially for dolby audio output? I've noticed that the machine doesn't sound near as good as it did when it shipped. This isn't due to damage or anything like that. This all started after that ridiculous update with Lenovo Vantage.  Is there anyway to customize the Audio back to the way it was with output as well as input?? Besides seeing ads and muting the microphone.  Is there anyway to revert Lenovo Vantage??? I mean that used to be pretty much the "core" of the Machine for ThinkPads.. now it's terrible. I'm not here to rant I'm just giving feedback, as well as I'd like this fixed, because now my computer sounds terrible. All of the drivers are up to date, etc. That's how I got in this mess!

Hi,I recently had to reinstall the Lenovo image on my X1 due to failed SSD. I have just received my C340 and activated Lenovo Vantage which found a BIOS update which I ran. It is now running BIOS version 1.6. BUt when I go onto the Lenovo Support page and it automatically and correctly registers my C340, I am informed of a newer version of the BIOS update (2.02). I do not get it. Why is there a newer version here than the version that Lenovo Vantage finds? And what I am supposed to do in a situation like this? Do I ignore that there is a newer version - or do I actually download it and install it? I would like an answer from a Lenovo representative to this issue. Unfortunately, this is not a very good start with this new Lenovo C340 notebook. When I logged in to the support page by Lenovo and it registered the notebook automatically, it also told me that the warranty ran out in 1970. What???! So now I have put in a case for having them correct this. But this is really not a good start

A:Ideapad C340 - just updated BIOS via Lenovo Vantage but a new version available on support page

Hi BlipBlopDK,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Each machine models have different variants. Not all updates can be applicable for every variants.

With the BIOS, reading the text file first is important doing it manually. If the changes from the older version applies to specific issue you have then you may proceed but if Vantage did not assign it automatically and you do not have any issues then there may not be any need for it.

My warranty is showing incorrect dates and duration? Why is this happening ?
If you had purchased your machine from a retailer, business partner, reseller, Lenovo starts the Base Warranty at the time the shipment was purchased by the retailer, business partner, or reseller from Lenovo. To compensate for the time the computer may have sat in a warehouse or on the shelf unsold, Lenovo generally adds an additional month to the Base Warranty, Lenovo allows date to be adjusted.

Here is the article that you can follow for the steps.

About the warranty date correction, some stores would do it for you while other may not since buyer may have a different user for it aside from the fact that personal information should be kept privately.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Hello, This functionality has never worked, even when new.  Lenovo Vantage tells me my S/N is invalid and then gives me a different BIOS value every time I run the program.  I suspect this is why the Update functionality doesn't detect anything new for my device (I can see newer drivers on the website).  Also, the auto-detect on the website does not work either.  The Automatic Driver Update scan fails (An error occurred while downloading packages.).  There's another place on the site that lets me try something, I forget where.  That didn't work either because it couldn't recognize my device. Is there anything I can do to get this functionality to work?  I don't want to factory reset the device just to try this, especially since it never worked before.  Worst case is that I'll manually apply the drivers--and there probably won't be any more new ones going forward--but that's annoying. Thanks

Not sure if I'm using the right term but while either of these programs are checking for updates, cursor focus is contanstly being pulled to either the app itself or the numerous background processes it seems to be opening. Seems minor but this means you literally can't multitask or do anything requiring typing while checking for updates, because your cursor is constantly being moved out of whatever you're trying to do.  This is especially a problem because of how long the scans take to run.Few addl questions: - Are these two apps doing the same thing, and if so, why are there two of them?  Just noticed the 'System Update' one today, Vantage I have had since purchase - Why are there numerous 'Setup' popups being generated in the background while these programs scan? (see photo attached). If you Alt-Tab during the process, you can see many exe / software shell things opening and closing (is this what pulls focus away?).  - Is there anyway to fix these programs so they run truly in the background?  Can't imagine it's a big ask to clean these up a bit. Thanks!

I tried several times and then decided to come here and find out if others were experiencing issues. I decided to follow the manual install procedures available at the link provided in the pinned thread. While following those procedures, I noticed that several of the instructions provided were incorrect (e.g., how to find version number of current Thunderbolt firmware from the tray icon). And others were not particularly helpful (e.g., please ensure that Thunderbolt device is attached before updating firmware - this is both unclear and incorrect - I updated my Thinkpad with just the power adapter attached - is that a Thunderbolt device? If yes, then why don't the instructions say so, since they already demand that you attach a power adapter before proceeding?). Through the update process, I found that I already had the correct Thunderbolt software package present (v17.4.78.500), but I did not have the latest Thunderbolt firmware version applied (I had version 40 instead of 43). Perhaps this is related to why the update through Lenovo Vantage failed, I don't know. In any case, I'm not accustomed to installing firmware patches when instructions are inaccurate or don't match expectations, so... So, I had an issue with the screen refresh rate, which I posted about here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Low-fps-with-X1-Extreme-and-4K-external-monit... This was solved when I updated the BIOS to version 1.19, which appeared in Lenovo Vantage not long after I posted. But then today, the problem reappeared. I checked on Vantage again, and another BIOS update was available: 1.21, which I also installed. This appears to have solved the screen update problem, but now my USB devices seem to be broken. My Dell USB soundbar no longer works, and my Logitech USB keyboard breaks intermittently: the keyboard backlight flashes on and off, and the keys freeze up for a second. What's going on? Both devices are hooked up to the USB hub on the monitor, which is connected to one of the USB-A ports on the laptop. I also have a USB mouse, but that's connected directly to the laptop rather than the hub, and that seems to be working.
