Dream Machine, bad brand? good brand?

Q: Dream Machine, bad brand? good brand?

Dream Machine, bad brand? good brand?

What is your Dream Machine? I mean spec... but realistic example not a time machine and what component brand you have bad experience with and what brand you very worship?

heres my Dream Spec:
- AMD Athlon64 FX-74 quad-core
- dual 300gb internal hdd, 15,000rpm, 16mb cache
- Blue Ray burner
- 8gig Buffalo Firestix rams
- dual 2900XT 1gig version in crossfire mode
- E-Mu 1616M 16 channels sound card
- Physx card
- Killer Nic card
- Altec Lansing FX5051 89 watts 5.1 surround sound system
- 1000watt Antec TruePower Quattro psu
- Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit
- liquid cooling
- custom see through hard plastic glass case
- gigantic fan that cover each side of the case
- red lighting fancy neon colors
- every components all red color like ram, video card, mobo etc....
- Machine name: The Blood Demon

I chose amd processor cause so far I have no problem with amd cpu. I have bad experience with intel cpu's..... got celeron 466mhz and it auto reboot often and sometimes wont boot. got pentium3 1.10ghz on laptop and it is out of order for less than 3 years of purchase. got pentium4 3.0ghz 630 and going to folder full of pictures seems slower than my athlon64 3200+ winchester.

chose dual 300gb instead of one piece 1tb hdd is cause as i study theres no 1tb that has 15,000rpm so ill go with dual 300gb 15,000rpm, 16mb cache instead.

chose blu ray over hd dvd is... just felt like it.

chose buffalo firestix ram is cause i really admire and worship buffalo brand! last time i bought a used, dirty, no antena, junk looking buffalo router at ebay.... and it works flawlessly! no random disconnect! nothing at all! before i bought a Dlink router brand new sealed and it disconnect me randomly! and oftenly! like evry 10min! it disconnect me and auto connect itself... even i bought brand new sealed! i never deal with Dlink again and buffalo really made me proud! so buffalo brand got my credit... so now i am pretty sure all their product are reliable and good! although it dont seems that they are not a pure specializing ram company such like crucial or kingston but i really think they are great on ram too! 8gig ram to assure no sudden hicup lagg exist! stable and steady performance! oh yeah I bought PNY ram and inside wasnt PNY ram! it was something else! will never tust PNY again and will never deal with PNY product again. Buffalo is the most trusted brand for me.

chose ati radeon hd2900xt is cause i have always use ati cards and have never have a problem! been using x300se, x700pro and x850xt and no problem at all! also i notice myself that ati has better image quality, sharp and brilliant colors! i mena usually i always hear ati has great image quality but never see it for myself and now i experience myself that ati is truly have superior image quality! i took game screenshots and compare with others with 6800 ultra and 7800gt on max settings and mannn my ati x850xt card are indeed superior image quality! deep, sharp and brilliant color! also ati tends to have more shader power than nvidia cards so its a crysis proof since crysis diffinitely eats alot of shader power... and ati card will be perfect for crysis!

chose E-Mu for sound card is that.... I have bad experience with creative lab. I bought the basic 30 bucks creative lab sound card 24bit.... it have driver problem.... like sometimes it will randomly set itself to 2 channel when i already set to 5.1 it did it often. and sometimes it made one of the speaker dont work, I had to reboot to make it work. Will never deal with Creative Lab again... although i have not try their high end sound card but still i have a feeling that i dont trust it.

chose Physx card.... for realistic atmosphere and physics... movements...

chose Killer Nic card to boost up connection.... reduce connection lagg especially a great idea if you playing a mmorpg that the server located at Malaysia and you're from USA... such as a mmo called Perfect World.... connection lagg like the sound of attacks will delay.... and the attack animation are delay. I always have connection lagg problem when playing games that hosted in malaysia when im in USA and im sure Killer Nic will help.

chose antec psu is cause... its just top of the line psu brand in my opinion! Ultra is a good acceptable quality and affordable while antec is superb quality! Ultra is good quality... Antec is superb quality!!!!

chose windows vista is cause.... duhh its the latest windows! and also im choosing the 64bit since 64bit will surely take 8gig ram to the fullest!

Preferred Solution: Dream Machine, bad brand? good brand?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just built my second computer. I bought all the parts I needed and went to work installing them in my new tower.

My specs are in my profile!

Problem is I am getting all these pixels on my screen. I don't know what it is but it only started after a day on my new machine. I did a bunch of updates and installed the driver that came with the Card but It is really bugging me that this brand new machine is messed up! I thought it was a temperature issue but its running at 37 C so its not the temp of the Card! What else could it be? I will install the newest driver and see if that changes anything and will post back with my results!

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade a number of machines to Windows 10 Pro. Latest one is a new laptop - fresh install and after it has been running a while it comes up at 100 CPU and it is something to do with Service host local system. This is not the only machine to be affected by this and what I have done to fix this is disable the windows update service.....any other ideas as this is driving me nuts......

Thanks,

A:100% CPU - Brand New Machine

Use resource monitor to find the program that's the trouble. Give the system some time after an upgrade, it has to run alot of optimizations (.NET, disk, etc...) in the background. Once your set, don't forget to run disk cleanup, do admin option, and remove the old copy of windows to free a ton of disk space.

If the c:\windows.old remains afterwards, you have an old driver, app that needs to be uninstalled / reinstalled. Log me in hamachi has this problem.

Hey all-

I've built a new machine, and I'm in the process of trying to get an OS on the machine. I'm hoping to run XP pro 64. Everytime I boot up the machine I get the following message:

DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I've tried the following:

Changing the bootable device priority list so CD-ROM is first.
Changing the bootable device priority list so CD-ROM is the ONLY device on the list.
Booting from a Fedora Core 6 CD.
Turning off the machine and wiggling all the power and data lines.
Taking out and replacing the motherboard battery.
Booting from the CDs supplied with the motherboard

All those result in the same thing.

Specs of my system of relevance:

AMD Athlon 64 X2
ASUS M2N-SLI AM2 ATX motherboard
WD Caviar harddrive (SATA)
LiteOn 20x DVDR CDWR (SATA)

Right now I suspect that I have a bum CD drive, I wanted to know if anyone else had any ideas or had seen something like this before, can't boot from the CD with a blank HD in the machine.

That being said, my next course of action is to borrow an internal CD drive from a friend, maybe an IDE one, and if I can get my hands on one, a USB external cd drive.

Any thoughts welcome.

This is my first post. I'm hoping to get into this stuff more, so I'm looking forward to using this forum for asking and answering in the future.

A:brand new machine, can't get it to see a bootable CD

There can be many settings effecting this, but let's start by having you try to get a different cd drive in there to see if that solves it. If it works with that, try the other drive once you get windows on there and see if it will work. If it does not workm then you most likely have a bad CD drive.

I own a brand new Dell 531 with Vista home addition. This thing takes 15 minutes to boot up, crashed half the time, will not run a DVD, if it does run the DVD it will crash 10 minutes into the movie, and a whole host of other weird problems. Dell support has been great but they want to reformat the hard drive and re-install Vista.

I'm not opposed to starting all over again.., I just find it hard to believe that a brand new system would be delivered this way.

Hi everyone,

I've been ghosting this forum for two days now reading different walkthroughs and such to remove adware and I can't seem to get rid of this annoying "ads.myadplatform" that pops up on the bottom right of my browser. I've honestly tried almost all of the removal tools listed on here. SUPERAntispyware, Malwarebites, and a few others. Luckily noscript blocks the ads for me, but it still pops up on the bottom right and on the top of the browser.

What happened is, my mom felt the need to get on my computer and dive into all of her spyware infested facebook applications. You know, those stupid games and programs that only lead to your computer getting infected and that everyone is too ignorant to know it? Yeah, those ones.

I'm really frustrated. Never in all my years of dealing with computers have I come across something like this that I can't get rid of. This is my brand new gaming rig and I want it to be free of this garbage. I really hope someone can help me.

I just unpacked my custom build and got it turned on.. went to try and get the internet working, and for the life of me.. i can't figure it out.
I don't even have a little wireless bar down in the right hand corner. when i try to connect to a network in network and sharing center, it wants me to plug in an ethernet cable. But i want wireless.. Also in the side panel of Network and sharing center, i don't even have the option for wireless.. i have Change adapter settings, and Change advanced sharing settings.

I try to set up a new connection or network and Connect to the internet, the only way it asks me to connect is by broadband(PPPoE). If i try set up a new network it asks me to choose the wireless router or access point i want to configure, might take up to 90 seconds for networks to appear.. but nothing pops up.
Anyone have any ideas?

I just purchased a brand new bare bones machine. The machine came with the motherboard, processor, and power supply with no OS installed. I installed windows XP and all of the updates. After installing the OS I proceeded to change out the power supply from a 350watt(which came with the machine), to a 750watt which I bought separately. After installing the new power supply I no longer get any video output whatsoever. I was wondering if this would be a problem with the power supply that I installed or possibly something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all:

I recently bought an Acer 6530G laptop that came preloaded with Vista *64.

The machine performs ridiculously slow on simple tasks and has since it came out of the box.

What do I mean by slow? For instance, when I'm typing this it's possible for me to type faster than the letters render. It doesn't get horribly behind, but it can get behind. If I hold delete to delete an entire sentence, the lag is very noticeable.

If I'm on a simple chat interface, say the one on facebook, it can become nearly impossible. Letters will appear as much as 10 seconds after hitting the key.

Not exactly resource heavy functions, huh?

The biggest problem I have is video playback. Trying to watch a live streaming Netflix movie is just impossible. It lags like mad - choppy, stilted, etc. The audio is unaffected, only video is impacted in this scenario.

Something weird about this: When I have the Netflix film on the screen, the CPU basically hit 100% and remains. If I leave the movie playing, and minimize the window so I can hear the movie playing, but not see it CPU immediately drops to 30%. When I re-enlarge I get nice playback for ~5 seconds. I'm VERY confused by this - and as you can imagine, VERY frustrated.

Now, to add to my frustration I can do ALL these things flawlessly on another box in my home - an 8 year old Dell box with XP SP3 and a whopping 256mb RAM.

Why is it then, that a BRAND new machine with 4 gigs RAM, and a faster processor does FAR... Read more

I just built a computer and I'm still working the bugs out of it......like not being able to install windows. I am trying to install win7 ultimate 64x from a DVD. I have 1 SATA optical drive and 1 SATA hard drive. I uesd the RC for a while on my old comp and it would install wicked fast. On this machine it takes about 10 minutes before it gets to the partitioning interface. After about 10 more minutes letting it try to format I get an error code that I can't remember, so I formatted my drive with gparted instead and tried to install on the fresh partition and I got an error code I do remember. 0x8007045D comes up and gives me some guff about files not being there. Hi everyone,

I just got a new ASUS ultrabook this week that should be quite fast given the config (see config at the bottom). It is fast indeed for internet browsing, video games etc, except all windows related tasks. Main examples:

- Opening a new folder can take 10 to 20 seconds
- Opening windows settings takes approx 15 seconds
- Opening a picture (!) takes approx 15 seconds and can make the computer freeze for a while

Something else I noticed: when I want to check windows updates, it doesn't seem to find any, but it doesn't tell me this; instead it just keeps looking for updates without ever ending.

Also as I said everything not windows related is very fast, I can open 30 tabs on chrome without any problem etc.

I suspect :
- A virus (after a week only??)
- Some of the bloatware ASUS installs by default on their machines

Any help appreciated :)

My config:

Brand: ASUS Zenbook UX302LG
OS: Windows 8 Pro
Processor: Intel? Core? i7 4500U Processor
Memory: DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM, 8 G
Graphic: NVIDIA? GeForce? GT 730M 2GB DDR3 VRAM
Storage: 750GB HDD With 16G SSD
Antivirus: McAfee (installed by default, will change it asap)

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

1 of your minidumps crashes at Fastfat.SYS. Fast FAT File System Driver. It has a bugcheck of 23.

0x00000023: FAT_FILE_SYSTEM

A problem occurred within a read or write to a FAT16 or FAT32 file system drive. There may be a physical problem with the disk, or an Interrupt Request Packet (IRP) may be corrupted. Other common causes include heavy hard drive fragmentation, heavy file I/O, problems with some types of drive-mirroring software, or some antivirus software. I suggest running ChkDsk or ScanDisk as a first step; then disable all file system filters such as virus scanners, firewall software, or backup utilities. Check the file properties of FASTFAT.SYS to ensure it matches the current OS or SP version. Update all disk, tape backup, CD-ROM, or removable device drivers to the most current versions.

I didn`t find a minidump with a bugcheck of EA. However, here is the meaning of the EA bugcheck.

0x000000EA: THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER
(Click to consult the online Win XP Resource Kit article.)
A device driver problem has caused the system to pause indefinitely (hang). Typically, this is caused by a display driver waiting for the video hardware to enter an idle state. This might indicate a hardware problem with the video adapter, or a faulty video driver.

The rest of your minidumps are crashing with bugchecks of 0A/D1/8E

This lovely new HP machine I bought in July came loaded with several pieces of malware. I first installed AVG AntiVirus then Sygate Personal Firewall. When I opened Windows Explorer for the very first time, SPF told me that it was trying to connect to "trustincash.com". I knew I had trouble then. I found some really nasty things (before I installed anything else) and have done what I can to get rid of them and have been successful for the most part. Problem is, this malware is lurking in the partition with the OS installation files and system recovery. My spyware programs never find anything there but each time I reformat and reinstall XP these buggers keep popping up. I don't have XP on disc, it's only on the HD, so I can't do a clean format and install. Is there any way to make XP installation discs from the preinstalled version (leaving out the nasties)? Or will I just have to cough up the $$$ and buy XP on disc?

Is there a way to get into that partition to have a deeper look? This machine won't let me, even in Admin mode. Is there a way to override that? I've reformatted this thing four times already and keep having the same trouble.

Any assistance is most appreciated!

My suspects :
- A virus (after a week only??)
- Some of the stuff ASUS installs by default on their machines

Any help appreciated

My config:

Brand: ASUS Zenbook UX302LG
OS: Windows 8 Pro
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 4500U Processor
Memory: DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM, 8 G
Graphic: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 730M 2GB DDR3 VRAM
Storage: 750GB HDD With 16G SSD
Antivirus: McAfee (installed by default, will change it asap)

thanks for ANY help

A:Good brand of ram for a high end PC

If you're not planning an overclocking adventure then the Kingston modules will be fine. I presume they are the KVR1333D3N9 kit. If you're planning on overclocking you might want to investigate a DDR3-1600 kit. Since your motherboard model is an older board (as is mine) there wont be a great deal of selection under the RAM QVL but Crucial, G.Skill, Kingston and Corsair don't usually have compatibility problems with Giga boards.
Check the memory configurator/memory finder on each memory manufacturers site for compatibility if you are unsure.

Unlike nvidia,ATI/AMD makes and sells it's own brand.

I think IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL was the most common, but also PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and others.

I got this machine yesterday.
Installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Full Retail), and it crashes every 3-4 hours.
It crashes when I'm browsing or opening windows, but also when I am _not_ at the machine (and screen saver is running).

I got the latest mother board drivers from ASRock's website.
Also, Windows updates... although I couldn't get SP1 because of an error (800b0100) -- for which I installed Fix It 50123 and 50202, but they didn't help. This didn't affect the BSODs in any way -- it was the same before and after the Windows updates.

Thanks guys!

I bought and assembled this machine in October, using an OEM version of Windows 7. I have encountered kernel panics when playing PopCap games or using Flash or Silverlight in Firefox, among other things. In most cases, the computer is not being taxed very much, so I'm not sure how to proceed.

First, I installed all of the drivers recommended by the manufacturers, and installed the most recent BIOS version for my motherboard.

Second, I checked the RAM using the Windows Memory Diagnostic and memtest86.

Third, I ran the Driver Verifier tool with no clear results.

Fourth, I ran a few stress tests on the GPU. Besides heating up some during the tests, the GPU didn't do anything out of the ordinary.

Fifth, I double-checked the inside of the machine. For this machine, I have 3 case fans, and the 3 built-in fans for the CPU, GPU, and power supply. None of them appeared to have any physical problems, and all of them have been running. I believe that air is flowing through without any trouble.

so here is my problem. i just built a brand new computer that i have been saving forever for that cost me $950. all brand new stuff assembled by me and a friend (who has built stable systems before) we configured everything right, cpu tight, mobo screwed down, power connected stable...everything seems good right?

so around a week into running i get a hard drive error, which we fix by stabalizing the hdd with some extra screws. maybe a week later i start getting this fatal blue screen giving me a machine_check_exception error.

i have no clue what to do about this error so i boot into safe mode with networking, and everyhing appears normal so i restart and it boots up fine to my normal desktop. this error keeps happening and i continue to boot into safe mode and then restart, probably did this 4-5 times. now i get the error constantly and sometimes cannot even boot into safe mode. here are my specs:

AMD Athalon X2 3800+
ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 Mobo
WD Caviar 250Gb HDD
G Skill 2GB 184-Pin DDR400 PC3200 Memory
GeForce 7600GT 256MB Graphics
Aspire See-Thru 500w Power Supply

can somebody please tell me what i need to do. run a RAM test, RMA my processor...everything is still within 30 days but will be running out soon, please help me. this is my dream machine and i dont know how to fix it

A:Machine Check Error...please help, brand new computer

Screws?

Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you are saying, but I do not see how a "hard drive error" can be fixed with extra screws. When you booted into safe mode, were you able to run chkdisk? I'm not an expert, but it sounds like your hard drive could be a bad one. Does it make any noises? Excessive clicking?

I would also try to run MemTest- one stick at a time. If you can get to them, there are people on this site that can advise you on your "minidumps." (reports windows makes makes when it encounters errors.

Maybe some of the smarter guys will respond, but that is my opinion of where to start checking. One more thing- that PSU doesn't have the best reputation. it could be part (or more) of the problem. I know I haven't been much help, but at least this will bump the thread- maybe smart people will notice and help.

Good luck, man. :knock:

I just bought a Lenovo G550 Laptop from the Microsoft Store. Brand New. I've had it for less than a full day. I started it up fine the first two times. I then started to install my programs (iTunes, MS Office, etc.). I ran a Windows Update. Restarted. And now it freezes at the "Starting Windows" screen. Right after the little balls form the Microsoft Logo. I'll even get the sound, although it's about a minute late. I've restarted it in Safe Mode, and it's fine there. I've tried using restore points, and it keeps telling me that the restore points have been deleted. I've tried disabling both the WLAN and the USB through the BIOS. I've tried disabling all startup programs through MSCONFIG. Still nothing. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'd format it and reinstall Windows, but it didn't come with a disk, and I didn't have a chance to create a Backup. Please Help!!

I would take it back stores have to take a product if you brought it within 7 days of the purchasing, if you can?t do that there should be a CDKey on the bottom of your laptop if you can get a copy of windows 7 (with ever version you have e.g. Home, Pro, Ultimate) reinstall windows.

This is going to be a long one, but its a real nasty one!
OK heres the story. I just bought a custom built PC. Here are the specs:

AMD Athlon64 X2 3800
A-Bit KN8 Motherboard (built in sound, ethernet)
ATI Sapphire X800 GT0 Graphics Card (PCI Express)
Maxtor 300Gb SATA HDD
1Gb Ram (2 x 512Mb sticks)
Floppy drive & DVD-RW Burner
Windows XP Home With Service Pack 2
450W PSU - (I think!)

I was told all the hardware had been tested and had passed all
the tests. So I took it home and installed windows. Everything was
fine. It booted within 2 seconds and I was really happy.
Then the horrors began. Whenever I tried to update windows,
install something, or do anything normal, it would sometimes
be OK, sometimes it would hang at the end of booting up (just
before it enters the login screen) or on one or two occasions it
would just give a blue screen and die. I remember one error message
which it gave on a few occasions which was something along the
lines of "xxxx.dll is not a valid image" and the windows scheme/skin
would revert to default or the background would go black. This happened
at random points and no matter how many times I re-installed windows
from fresh, it would be unpredictable as to when it was going to hang
up and die on me. I got a friend to install windows for me (he does
tech support) for a living. After 2 hours he gave up and said it was
possibly a memory problem. I took it back to the shop and told them ... Read more

A:PLEASE HELP! - Brand New Athlon X2 Machine Behavior Problems!!!

There are several things that you can do, and I'll list a few. If you need navigational help post back and someone will help.

Go to Device Manager and make sure everything is normal...no yellow or red marks.

Check your Event Viewer for errors...Google any error codes for more info

Some boards need a BIOS update to function with the dual-cores...determine your current BIOS (download Everest from Lavalys) then check with Abit to make sure that it is correct.

In Windows you can run scandisk, then chkdsk

If you suspect a memory error you can run Memtest

There are other levels of Windows Repair but that's enough for now.

BTW, you shouldn't have to be doing any of this, IMO. The guy(s) who built this machine should suck it up and make it right.

JF

I don't intend on starting any battles here among who swears one brand is better than another.

When I purchased my last PC (Which is now deceased) back in, I believe 96' the shop threw in a Key Tronics keyboard with it. At the time I knew nothing about them (Key Tronics) or who produced reliable keyboards then. But when it lasted close to 7 years I "thought" I found the cream of the crop. So when it (keyboard) finally kicked the bucket I ordered another one, same brand same model.

I didn't have it in my possession for no more than two months and it did the same thing the last one did. Various keys quit working. So I sent it back and after talking on the phone I was able to get my $$ back. And have been using the "Noisy" one off of my Old IBM 486.

But after reading some of the same issues that others have confronted, which sounds just like what I was going through I have that sixth sense that there was nothing wrong with the keyboard that I returned.

Closing this out, I have though about giving Key Tronics another try but I am a little leery about the whole issue in general. If I could pick one up here in town I would hesitate one second going back to Key Tronics. I like the features that they had and was hoping that someone here could point me in the direction of something better than this one off of my old 486

Greetings and Merry Christmas.
I have a 3 day out of the box, Asus Zenbook pro that is giving me fits.
I am getting the BSOD fairly regularly.
I have scoured the internet trying to find a solution.
From the suggestions I have found so far, I have updated both display drivers from the manufacturers website, the WIFI driver, as well as the BIOS. Everything else was up to date. I have done a hard reset, and chose to have the drive wiped during the install.
I have installed, and uninstalled the few apps that I have had time to put on here, but after only 3 days, I don't think I have given myself time to narrow down if it is a software conflict.
My last resort is to trouble you fine folks and see if you can shed some light.
If not, this machine will go back in the box monday and returned for a refund.
I hate doing it because this really is a slick machine. Very, very fast, and a nice design.

Thanks in advance for any attention given to this.

Hey guys, hoping to get some input on what could be causing these occasional BSOD.
Here's the system specs:
Windows 7 Embedded (Application Compatibility Template)
i7 - 3770 processor
4 GB DDR3 Ram
Foxconn Z75AS motherboard
Silverstone 500W PSU
Rosewill Sata Card, uses Silicon Image 3114 chipset (PCI)
Radeon HD5450 PCI-E card
2 Western Digital Green Drive 3TB each, GPT. (WD30EURS)
1 Western Digital Green Drive 2TB (WD20EURS)

Here's the kicker: 3 DVR Capture Cards with 16 BNC inputs each, so I have 48 cameras going to the system.

Specifically they are NUUO cards, SCB7000 series, but I don't think that really matters.

I noticed the SATA card was unresponsive in the middle of the night, and this afternoon as it says in the event log. That doesn't seem to have a consistent timing with the timing of the DVR software restarting itself, and the BSODs, I think it may be unrelated.

I have been testing the hardware with trial and error, unplugging the BNC connecters from all but one card. I'm going to keep doing hardware trials, but an analysis on the dump would really help steer me in the right direction.

As always, thanks in advance for any input or guidance you may offer!

I'll try to keep this concise and easy to understand. I'm not an expert by any means.
I will post the dxdiag so you can see the specs of my system below after the story/explanation.

I built my first computer a couple of months ago. I was nervous but it seemed to have turned out alright - I spent about $860 including Windows 7 Home Premium. The only thing I didn't buy is a new graphics card - I used my brother's old Radeon HD 4670, a card that's obviously not on the level of the rest of the parts in the PC. I plan to upgrade to something like a Nvidia 560 ti some time soon.

All the games (the ones I've been able to play on the 4670, which is still pretty much all the games I own) have ran fine, and so have most of the programs - usually. Now, my computer's symptoms seem to have escalated or changed, but I'll start with what was happening originally.

Most times I used my computer, I'd have no problems. I could have 5-6 programs running, be listening to music, etc, and it'd run smooth and very fast. But every so often... it almost seemed like every 3 bootups or so, things would just go wrong. A program would take longer to load, or Firefox would freeze. And then if I clicked MSN, that'd freeze. And then iTunes, and so on, until everything running was "not responding" and had that transparent film over it.

I probably should have posted sooner, because this was extremely annoying. I'd press ALT CTRL DELETE,... Read more

Hello folks

I have a brand new Dell Vostro 400 with Vista but very annoyingly the mouse pointer accuracy is way off. For example in a word document or any typing when I move the cursor to insert a letter between words and click the mouse button where the cursor is, the actual point where the mouse clicks onto is about 4 letters off the space I want it to be. This applies to all processes, whether editing word documents or trying to select certain options in dialog boxes, adjust the spacing for columns in windows exploere, anything. Soo annoying.

I have been into Hardware, Mouse and checked the improve accuracy box, but nothing has changed.

Also, it seems to take forever for Vista to select and highlight an item, for example to highlight an item from a list, I have to wait for almost a second before it highlights and changes colour in order to progress. THis sounds very lame I know - to wait a whole mini second, but I'm used to my (older XP) machine highlighting and being able to select in an instant.

Please help!

A:Accuracy of mouse pointer diabolical on a brand new Dell machine

Others have reported a similar issue with a Dell Vostro 400 and Vista. Here is the fix that worked for some of them: Unplug your keyboard and mouse, if the system then reboots to a keyboard error, power it down, plug the keyboard back in and reboot. Now retest. I know it sounds unbelievable but if you have owned a Dell in the past, then anything is believable. Let us know.
