Computers in netwrok and house going wack!?

Q: Computers in netwrok and house going wack!?

Ok i will start with my brothers. He got a message saying that his computer was infected with a dangerous virus, it runs really slow, and something that his administrative tools folder was like deleted or something. My dads computer he was playing counter strike and he kept getting kicked out of his games and got stuff saying that cannot conect to server and stuff like that. Now today his computer is slower than my brothers, he cant scan because he cant connect to the internet cause his thing wants to download the lastest update, cant connect to the internet and just really cant do much of anything. My computers fine as of right now but that can change soon. I have some knowledge of using a computer and stuff but my dad is more of the computer person. We have McAfee and we all download the updates that are needed and i scan about twice a week and my dad scans frequently and so does my brother, we also have windows xp. If anyone can give any insight to this that would be great Thanks.

Ok i just got this... I dont know about my dads but for my brothers its an IE AntiVirus if that helps. Also its missing a shortcut Iw3MP. exe
I cant create one because the computers cannot connect to the internet so thats why i am posting to see if anyone can fix this.
Can anyone pls. help!?!?

Preferred Solution: Computers in netwrok and house going wack!?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Howdie,

I have been doing networking for quite awhile now (10years or so) on Win95, Win98SE and WinXPhome. If you need some help I would need to get information about your computers, what type of network card they have and do you have a router, hub or switch.

I'll be on the forum throughout the night.

Hi,

Mobo, if your out there...you probley have an answer for me, or anyone else can help please...

I've heard since XP has come along, that there's a way of connecting two computers via the internet. My Dad is often having troubles with his and I come to the rescue (sort of), I find it hard trying to explain solutions over the phone or e-mail, I just can't go running over to his place all the time.

I have heard that through XP, I could see my Dad's desktop, as well as his files...is this true? Would his stuff just act as a file on my desktop, and as long as his computer is turned on, I can see in...?

If this can be done, how do I do it, how do I proceed? I would want it so I can see his, but not him see mine... I'm the fixer, and he the fixee.

Thanks, Wogster.

On every computer in our house, 1 Macbook, 1 pc laptop, 1 desktop, in EVERY browser random tabs or windows will open while we are online with super annoying ads. They stay hidden behind the tabs you are using and often play video/audio. examples: google.analytics that reroutes, blinxx, mevio, wordslife, apartmentfinder
I've run ClamXav and iAntivirus and they find no infections. Obviously something is not right, but I really don't know how to go about fixing it. Is my router infected? What's going on?

Hello..I am desperately looking for a solution who is making my life a living hell!!
I moved into the new house with two laptops with Windows Vista installed. Since then I have been experiencing severe problems with the wireless connection. The operator is TalkTalk.

As soon as we realised that the problem seemed to exist exclusively on our Vistas (since the two Macs, of another couple of tenants who had been living here for long, were working correctly as usual) we called the company. They suggested many things I have already read on this forum such as deleting the other networks, re-adding mine manually etc. We then realised that things were more complicated than initially thought and started analysing the problem more in depth. We went through their website and changed different settings, including those listed in the properties of "Manage wireless connection" or sth like that (we changed some IP configurations, the protocol ivp4/6, etc.). The outcome was that my Vistas started working while the Macs stopped.

I called them again many other times but no conclusive solution was ever found. I eventually talked to another operator who drew the conclusion according to which the WEP configuration of our Vistas is not compatible with that of the MAC. In other words either the Vistas would work or the Macs. No way they could both work at the same time!!!!

Please I noticed that people from this website are much more competent than those working for these companies and ... Read more

how are you connecting wirelessly ?

if wireless is the wireless switched on - most laptops have a switch or use the FN in combination with the F keys to toggle wireless on/off

have you logged into the router and removed the wireless security and see if you can now connect - if that works put the wireless security back on and try again

otherwise - lets deal with just the one PC at a time - your windows 7 desktop -whats the make and model ?

can we see an ipconfig /all
What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG , Webroot etc

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

This should also work for windows 8
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

I have Verizon DSL, with a Westell modem, for 2 PCs and a mac. The modem has 3 working ethernet ports. In ports 1 and 3, are the PCs (in the same room), in port 2 is a Linksys router for the mac (in a different room) to go wireless.

The mac is working fine. I tested every port with the mac that is connecting, so I know they're working. The PCs on the other hand, are not. They say they are connected with 100.00mbps, and they are sending and receiving packets. However, when I open my browsers (IE and Firefox) the browsers say they can't find the server or the page won't load. I've even attached the PCs to the ports on the router, with the same result. I've also 'pinged' the sites using the command prompt, but it can't find the sites either. Why aren't the PCs working? What should I do?

Any suggestions would be of great help and much appreciated. Thank you in advanced.

Hey guys, I need help modifying my network/internet setup at my house and guesthouse. This is how my current setup looks like. Main house has the DSL(dynamic IP) modem, connected to a Netgear WGR614 wireless G router(DHCP) 1 laptop connects via wireless to that, and a cat 5 wire going from one of the ports to the guesthouse bedroom in wall plug, and connected to it is a Dlink Dir-625 wireless n router. I have 2 computers connected to the router wirelessly. With this setup my Internet connection is inconsistent in the guesthouse. And recently I bought a Denon AVR-3808 Audio receiver in the living room that needs to be connected to the internet via Ethernet wire., and I don?t have access to that. Let me give you more info on the Distance between the farthest point of the guesthouse, and the position of the modem and wireless router is in the main house. It?s about 60-75ft, 5 walls in between, and 2 of the walls would be the outside stucco walls?? I need suggestions on how to do this the right way. My Denon audio receiver is the only equipment that need to connect to the Internet via Ethernet cable, and I don?t have access to that??

Thank you in advance
Raffi.

A:Network/internet setup between my house and the guest house

First off, get stability from Main to Guest by using wired access. If this is not stable,
then the wireless will not be either. Update the Netgear WGR614 firmware.

Wireless will bog down when it is encrypted, but you need that to avoid your neighbors
from getting access to your systems.

Which location (Main/Guest) has the worse reliability issue?

I know this is going to sound awful but get your OWN internet connection. The distance is too great for a wireless network and probably wouldn't work terribly well by hardwiring it (and that's assuming you can get past the physical problems of installing the cable externally). You may be able to use a powerline network connection (not sure if these will work on an extended intranet) but the setup costs are still pretty high for now.

Really - fork out the few dollars that a internet connection of your own will cost. Much better proposition all round.

I downloaded the Grissom House from TheSimsZone.co.uk, it's lovely in the picture, yet when I install it and run the game and click on it to put it in the neighborhood, it freezes the game.

I erased all the files of the Grissom House I could find in My Documents/EA Game/The Sims ... But the house still shows up in the Lots and Houses Bin. In fact, there's two copies in it right now.

Basically, this question is just for vanity purposes: Is there any way I can get rid of the 2 copies in the Lots and Houses Bin without having to click the house and manually delete it, seeing as how the game freeze when I click on either copy.

I recently changed hardware on my pc. I did not uninstall or change anything about my hard drive, but when using it in the new pc, it kept telling me to activate windows. This was strange, never happened to me before so why now. So i go through so much
trouble trying to fix it and nothing worked. Even in settings under activation blah blah, it still wouldn't let me activate because "the servers were down". ok. So i call Microsoft support, and he keeps trying to get me to repurchase windows 10.
No. Bad customer service  rep. He did not help at all just made me do everything i already did and  when it said the servers were down, he told me its because i don't have a legit license. I downloaded windows 10 when it was free in 2016 or whenever.
So i never got a product key. So I used to windows 10 installer tool and it seemed to work, the watermark was gone. but later that day when i came home it was back. Then i tried the activation again and it worked. This was incredibly frustrating and annoying.
so i wanted to leave negative feedback to windows/microsoft. But i dont have the feedback hub, so i go to windows store and try to search bnut the search function doesnt work. I dont know why i thought any other windows app would be easy to use after everything
i just experienced. I have no question. This isnt about windows 8. This is the only place i found to try to tell microsoft anything. so tedious and annoying. yuck.

i have been connecting and disconnecting the internet cable from the modem to the router and viceversa every day till last week or so, i do this because i put one pc to download big files from the modem directly. so now when i connect to the router it is ok , but when i connect to the modem directly at anytime af the day it doesnt connect and the little light thats beside the entry of the internet cable on the back of the pc turns on for like 1-2 seconds(this only happens when i disconnect the internet from the pc and leave it like that for 20-30minutes and connect the internet again) but then it doesnt happen anything. and when i disconnect from the router to conenct to the modem directly(it doesnt work) and back to the router the light behind the pc turns on and off every 1-2 seconds, so i restart my computer to make it work.
ive tried to leave the cable disconnected when the computer is turned off without the power cable inserted to the pc and nothing.

so what could it be??
thanks in advance

Hello,I will be helping you with your problems. Please be patient while I assist you. Some points for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of us Please do NOT run, install or uninstall any programs, unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Butt... Okayy Ive been everywhere from avast help to hp basically everyone. Im hoping someone here can help me fix this problem. okay so about a week ago spyware was on my computer antivirus 2010 so i used malware bytes and it said it got it off. but my computer still resumed to reboot so I said wth and reformatted my computer using the hp disks they had sent me. So I did the first few times I wasnt able to find my network interface card and finally I called hp and they helped me install it correctly. Now my computer is still rebooting every hour or so. I used malwarebytes and it found nothing. I also used avast and hijackthis. Please someone help me out. I will greatly appreciate it. I will include my hijackthis report below. I hope to hear from someone soon.Btw since my reformat i have not downloaded any spyware that im aware of. sooo i dont know why it keeps doing this.I use windows xp pro service pac 2Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 2:35:20 PM, on 3/23/2010Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.5730.0013)Boot mode: Normal{Mod Edit:removed HJY log improperly placed~~~boopme}

A:I need HELP. my computer is completely out of wack -hoping someone can help me.

Download BlueScreenView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html Double-click BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program. When scanning is done, Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items. Save the report as BSOD.txt.Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply. The fact that your system reboots routinely...would seem to not indicate a malware situation, IMO. But we will examine that possibility later, depending on what we find out in your next post. For the time being, I will leave your HJT data intact, rather than removing such. HJT logs are handled in one of our malware forums...rather than move you to one of those, a quick exploration of possibly system issues seems expedient in your case.Louis

Hi guys! For a while now, the volume on certain websites has been messed up for me and I've tried everything and have come to a conclusion that maybe something's wrong, so I did a virus scan and then all of a sudden this message from McAffee started popping up:

The file C:/System Volume Information\_restore{129201FA-B0AC-49B3-96B2-DEB8B91E727B\RP249\A0048079.dll could not be cleaned. Please delete the infected file.

I couldn't find the file, but if it's infected I need to delete it, maybe that is what is causing problems. I honestly don't know. Here is my HJT log.

Hi Everyone,I'm new to this site and I was hoping that I could get some help with my computer. My apologies ahead of time but I'm not the most computer literate person so if my topic title/introduction have been done wrong please let me know. Here's some background on the situation: my Windows Update will download the update but fail to install (Update KB982158). The second problem that I seem to be having with my internet--When looking at the sending/receiving activity monitor the sending activity is extremely high and is increasing at an abnormally fast rate. My more computer literate friend said that it seems as if something is using my computer to attack another.I've run both the DDS tool as well as the GMER tool, however when running the latter my computer came up with the blue screen, dumped all of my memory and I wasn't able to generate a log. After posting I will try and run it again and update this post accordingly. Hi all,

I am using pair of Intel E5410 quad core processor with chipset Intel 5400 with on board network card (Broadcom Net Xtreme 57 Gigabyte controller). OS Vista Ultimate on x64. While I access network it is very slow. Can anybody help to resolve this problem.

Thanks in advance

Ravi

A:Slow Netwrok Access

What exactly is "slow" with your networking? File Transfers? Browsing the Network?

Microsoft has acknowledged that Windows Vista is slower in the networking department, this has something to do with the way Vista looks for and uses network resources. It's supposed to work like that though, and Microsoft is working on speeding it up.

Hi,
I'm a teacher who looks after the school website. I'm having problems connecting by FTP to the website's server while I'm on the school network. I can connect fine at home. Having wasted hours on the phone to the Local Authority's Incompetent Communication Team, I'm hoping I can sort it out better with some help from this forum. Here's a few details:

OS: Windows XP or Windows Vista (neither work)
FTP Client: Fire FTP or File Zilla (neither work)
The school has no server, but does use a cache box.
Broadband is supplied by the Local Authority.

Here's what I've tried:

FTP with and without passive mode,
Using a static IP and assisgning it to the number required for office computers (I was told to try this).
The Local Authority team can FTP to my website from where they are, so the problem must be with our network right? Is it likely to be a firewall issue?

Thanks,
Clive

I'm using XP Home on an Acer Travelmate 800. The last few weeks, a small box has started appearing from time to time, when I am on line, titled Network Connections. It has a scroll down menu which lists my remaining dial up connections (which I use in strange remote parts of the US!). If I am online at the time (DSL, cable, or dialup) it interrupts my connection, and I cannot continue my online session til I close this little box. How can I make it stop? (I have no idea why it started!)

A:XP Netwrok Connections popup

try control panel internet properties, connections, make sure the dot is in never dial. Thats adsl always dial is telephone line, sometimes if the setting is dial, when network connection not present , then if weak adsl it goes for dialup.

I have a wired desktop comp and a wireless laptop both connected through a Netgear router and able to access the internet fine. I want to access the desktop files from the laptop and after turning off both firewalls - checking NETbios is on in both - computer browser is active on both and I set the files on the desktop that I want to share on the network.

I can ping the desktop and even see the directory, but I get the error message "||'computer(name)\MyDocuments (the folder i want)\ is not accessible, when I click on the folder.

Can anyone tell me what else I might need to do to be able to access the files?

thx in advance

Alright here it is.

My internet connection is not working consistantly (when it's working at all) and the issue is neither with the ISP since there are three other computer using the same connection which work just fine.

I troubleshoot it, but it says nothing is wrong, yet, it won't let me use any browser, like ever anymore. I went to check the Network, and it says that all is peachy so to speak, that the signal is working properly and that I shouldn't be having any problems with my internet.

When I checked the Network Activity Status, they bytes sent were ridiculously high, and the ones received where very low.

Something else I tried to do was to renew the IP address in command prompt, but it says that all the medias are disconected. My computer is a Laptop from sony. An NS series.

Thanks in advance for your help.

this is on a windows 2000 server machine.
2 Scsi drives.
The 2nd scsi drive is a 13 gig drive, and when i go into it and select all and properties to see the total amount of the files size, i get a total of 2.5 gigs. Now i have the option to show all hidden and even system files, so everything should be showing. When i look at teh free space left, it says theres only 1.5 gigs left. I'm losing 9 gigs somehow and i don't know where? The other drive is reading the free disk space fine, but this one has me worried.
I've ran scandisk, defrag, 2 anti-virus programs and still nothing.
Has anyone delt with any of this??

Thx
