Edge browser shuts down on loading anything

Q: Edge browser shuts down on loading anything

Just completed a clean install on a Lenovo Via Nano-based netbook (blow, fan, blow...) prevously running Win7, activated using previous credentials via the genuineticket.xml method. The ISO source is the same one that I have used on several other machines without problems.

After installing the OEM (Win7) drivers and going online to activate, I launched Edge to download Classic Shell. It started up with two tabs - one MSN, the other the "Start" tab. Each lingered for a few seconds, and then displayed the canned "this page is having a problem loading". Each tab then closes and the browser shuts down. Even using Edge as a PDF reader produces the same scenario.

Internet Explorer functions normally, and so I set it to the default browser for now.

Possible solutions I have tried, gleaned from various net searches, without resolution:
Create a new user profile and attempt to launch browser when logged in from that account.system file checker (no problems)dism ... /scanhealth and /restorehealth. No component store corruption found, restore completed normally.Delete the Edge app package folder from localappdata and reinstall Edge from powershell scriptTurn off flash support in the Edge advanced settings (using the 3 second time window that the browser actually stays running)Downloaded and installed all Windows updates as of today.chkdsk /f ... no problems

Just now I tried to load a PDF file using Edge, and after the crash checked the event log. It finds a crash in Microsoftedgecp.exe, event ID 1000, faulting module KERNELBASE.DLL

The only other issue that my workflow would have missed, is if one of the Lenovo Win7 drivers is the problem; but it's too late for that now.

Any suggestions?

Preferred Solution: Edge browser shuts down on loading anything

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi. I have a thinkcentre edge 72,
Intel Core i5-3330s 3.20 GHz - Intel H61 - 4GB DDR3 - 1TB HDD - DVD/RW - Windows 7 Pro 64Bit

One day on startup (from power button) it just ran the fans for a 1 second, and then shut down, then the fans ran again after about 4 seconds for 1 second again and shut down, and repeats.

I took the thing apart, fiddled with connections, removed the ram and put it back in, then did the paperclip test on the powersupply.  The powersupply was giving out the required voltages on yellow, orange and red etc.  Powersupply fan runs.  Seams the powersupply is ok.

tried removing almost everything from the motherboard - DVD, harddisk, fans, power button (shorted the startup from the connection on the motherboard).

Seems to me either the RAM is no good, or the motherboard has a problem.  I don't have any suitable extra ram, so can't test that.

I guess before I go out and buy a new motherboard has ANYBODY ANYWHERE had this problem with a Lenovo ?

Can Lenovo experts indicated what they think this might be ?

If Not, how can I get my hands on a replacement motherboard? I'd rather not change/upgrade as I don't want to have to reinstall windows 7 or risk data loss.

thanks!

Guy

A:Edge 72 won't boot, fan runs then shuts down, and ...

I see no other replies to this... I had somewhat similar problem, 3 days ago: I had Windows7 in "sleep"; when I pressed Power button, only got auxiliary fan full on until I pulled the power plug. Any subsequent reattachment of power resulted only in auxiliary fan full on.  An other forum entry's response led me to replace the CMOS battery. Problem fixed.

Edge loads to a blank screen and after 30 seconds or so disappears.
I've restored back to a restore point before the problem started and that doesn't work either.
I've searched for fixes and the most recommended is deleting the specific packages directory then reloading Edge using Powershell. This doesn't work.
If I go into Safe Mode without Networking I get the message "Microsoft Edge can't be opened using the built-in Administrator Client".
Any ideas please?

Microsoft Edge: Tab says it's not responding while loading certain Websites

Whenever I look up different things on certain websites, the tab in my Edge browser says it's not responding while loading the page.

This site (Windows 10 Forums) loads fine. But websites such as Google sites for example stops responding while loading. After it gets through loading, it finally responds.

Hey guys! everything was fine with windows 10 since the beginning , except since last week. I cant connect to the internet with chrome or any other application using the internet ( steam, league of legends etc). I did some research but couldn't find something that worked.

Thank you!

A:Can't use any other browser than Edge.

Hi, sorry to hear that. Are you using a laptop? A desktop? If you could complete your system specs, that would help. (Instructions in the tutorial section if you're unsure).

How are you connected to the internet? Ethernet cable? WiFi?
If you are using a router, can any other devices connect to that successfully?

Since we don't know what state your internet connection is in, first right click the internet icon in your system tray, and Open Network and Sharing Centre. Please post a screenshot of that including your system tray internet icon.
It should look sthg like this:
Please right click the internet icon in your system tray again, click "Troubleshoot Problems" and report the outcome. Thanks.

Do you know what changed last week that might have caused this?
Do you have any system restore points before the date you first noticed this?
Do you use disk imaging (which allows you to restore your PC to exactly how it was when you created the image and creates a backup at the same time)? Everyone needs to use this: Macrium Reflect or Aomei Backupper- freeware (+ commercial) - with their boot disk + large external backup storage medium.

I apologize if this isn't the right forum, but I did not see one that is specifically for Microsoft Edge.

We have an internal Flash application at work that utilizes a self-signed certificate for HTTPS. When attempting to load the page hosting the application, only the background will load. Other than the initial warning regarding the self-signed certificate,
there are no errors logged in the browser or the application's backend. The page would load successfully prior to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

One workaround to get the application to load is to install the self-signed certificate in Internet Explorer. After that, it works fine. My question is: does the version of Microsoft Edge that comes with the Anniversary Update have a new security
feature that prevents it from loading Flash content when a self-signed certificate is involved? If not, does anyone have any ideas as to why the content will not load unless the certificate is installed?

Did you try to run AdwCleaner to remove the infections? Run the program as administrator and choose the scan option, if you are unsure about what has been found you can post the logfile here first, otherwise you can click clean after scanning.

Your system will reboot after you clean it, a logfile will open. Can you post the content of the logfile in your next post?

Hi Everyone,

I'm wondering if anybody else has experienced the following & if so, is there a fix.

When I have a bunch of tabs open & click on the "+" on the top right of the screen to open a new tab. In the lower part of the screen it reflects the new tab, but when I look in the tab row, I do not see the new tab.

If I try to scroll over to the right, I cannot because the right tab arrow is greyed out, however if I click on Left tab arrow once, then the right tab arrow goes from greyed out to white & I can click on it.

Thanks

A:Edge - Browser Tabs

When you hit the new tab + plus sign you will still be looking at the same page but a new identical tab should have appeared on the top bar. That allows you to move off to another site or have a web search while still keeping the first tab open. The new tab when first opened should be seen at bright white lettered while the original page is seen as greyed out since the new tab is the active newly opened tab until you click on the first where the new tab is then greyed out.

This is normal process even when having several tabs open and going to open a new one the new one is automatically made the active tab. If you are seeing something else then you have a problem with Edge itself and would likely need to see either a System Restore point used as a possible rollback before this problem first appeared as the best option or actually end seeing a repair install of Windows just to get Edge fixed?

I think you would want the first option of trying the System Restore option first to see if rolling things back a bit will clean this up especially unlike what was seen in the past with IE being a separate download you could go for toe see an IE problem cleaned up Edge only comes with 10! and is not available separately at this time. While having about 10 tabs open here the next new one was seen active on the spot as you should be seeing there once the restore point is used provided you have one available before you started seeing this.

Adblock Plus on Twitter

Adblock Plus is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated extensions for Edge browser. and while Microsoft has already confirmed that it?s working with the company to bring it to Windows 10 users, everyone was wondering how come that a beta version is not yet available.

In a tweet posted this morning, Adblock Plus confirmed that their Edge extension is already in the works and a beta is prepared for the rollout. All it takes is for Microsoft to push the release button and users can install it on their devices running Windows 10 Redstone builds.

?Just waiting on Microsoft to allow us to release it! We're working on it as we speak. Just waiting for Microsoft to allow us to be released,? AdBlock Plus explained in two tweets.

More betas to launch before the summer debut
At this point, extensions for Microsoft Edge need to be manually downloaded and installed in Edge browser, but in the future, the software giant plans to make them available in the Windows Store for easy install.

?With this in mind, we have built Microsoft Edge so customers can add extensions to the browser with the confidence that they will operate as expected,? Drew DeBruyne, general manager of Microsoft Edge, explains.

?One of our highest priorities is to ensure that Microsoft Edge is the safest, most reliable and fastest browser we could build, and our experience over the past 20 years has taught us that poorly written or even malicious add-ons were a huge... Read more

 1. When will MSE be able to "remember" where I place the browser window when I close it? I don't like for the browser to be in Full Screen, so I run them in a smaller window. My other browsers, IE11 and Chrome, remember the placement of the window but MSE doesn't. This browser has been out for a year now (including Betas) and you would think this wouldn't be a problem. Or, just maybe, I've missed a Setting. Anyway, any help welcome.

 2. When is MSE expected to be able to support extensions? I would like to be able to run Web Of Trust. Thank you.

A:Microsoft Edge browser

I won't use Edge until it supports something like the Adblock Plus extension.  Edge has other problems as well.  When I can use IE, Chrome, and Firefox, I don't know why I'd want to use Edge.  If MS wants to compete with Chrome (as I've read), they should make something that's competitive.  Thank goodness we don't HAVE to use Edge!

By the way, the acronym MSE has always been used to mean Microsoft Security Essentials in the past.

 Good luck.

I somehow managed to get an infection of DNS Unlocker on my laptop. Using various products (Malware bytes McAfee etc) I have managed to eradicate it from most places (Firefox now clean etc.) but it is still, obstinately and persistently present in the Windows 10 Edge browser. Every time I try to use Edge, after a few minutes I get unwanted windows opening, a message in the bottom left saying adverts will start in 5 seconds (it's always 5 seconds and never goes down) and annoying popups obscuring the website I actually wanted to look at.

Any ideas how to get rid of these unwanted intrusions from Edge?

Keith

PS. I wonder if the morons who write this stuff realise that adverts forced in front of a user who didn't ask for them aren't going to have him saying "oh yes, that's a good idea, I'll get that product". They're more likely to make him say "I am going to boycott forever any organisation or service that uses such obnoxious methods."

A:Remove DNS Unlocker from Edge browser

Hi Writerman,

It sounds like you might still be infected. However, I'm not sure that 'DNS Unlocker' will be detected by your McAfee or not, as I think that DNS Unlocker is more of an Adaware or spyware type of a bug, rather than a virus per se.

With that said, I would have thought that MalwareBytes would have corrected it, but perhaps not. Have a look at the below links, as they offer some additional information, including using AdwCleaner.

There's also another free one called Super AntiSpyware, that's good to have around as well, which might also work, however ADWCleaner was specifically mentioned.

Whenever I am browsing the Forums (individual Threads) using Edge Browser then I try to use the Back Button to return to the Thread List the Back Button will either not work at all, or I will have to Click it multiple times for it to work. This does not happen when I am in the Thread list or in the Forums list. When I use Internet Explorer instead of the Edge Browser, this problem does not exist. Also TSG Forums is the only site this problem exists. I go to Google News using the Edge Browser it works without hitch.

Am I the only one experience this or if Is actually a semi common problem with the Edge Browser

I have tried to use the steps under default apps to make IE my browser. But when I hit "reset", it automatically goes back to Microsoft Edge. I have researched and every one goes back to the default app. I do not understand why it automatically
changes back to Edge, it even changes back, if I try to use Google Chrome. I don't know what to try next. Please help!
Thank you,

Bought a computer 2nd hand and it seems internet will only work with Windows 10 Edge Browser.   Chrome, Firefox, and any Malware tool will not install if it requires downloading of additional contents.   Many other programs will not install either since this has started.  I've gotten a few errors indicating dnsapi.dll file is missing.   I was told by windows 10 support section of this forum it might be adware.

I've been asked this a few times already and have always replied "It can't be done"

Anyhow, seeing how I didn't follow the instructions in my signature and have found myself corrupting my Windows system while heavily overclocking and stress testing the CPU on a custom water-loop, I have found myself wanting to export them to IE11 so that my MS account stores them for easy retrieval. (I have also just copied the folder to my backup drive too!)

So I wanted to work out how and this is my solution:

In File Explorer, navigate to your Edge Favorites:
Code:
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\Favorites\Links
Copy the links (aka favorites) to the folder C:\Users\[USERNAME]\FavoritesThe favorites will now be in IE11 (If IE11 is currently open, you will have to close and re-open for the favorites to appear). If you want them to be imported to Chrome, Firefox or wherever, you can now import in the normal way.

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. I may have missed it.

I am unable to add extensions to Edge browser on my Desktop PC. When I go to the windows store, from Edge, in order to add them - none are shown.

I also have a tablet running Windows 10, and was able to add them just fine on the tablet.

Any ideas what might be going wrong with my desktop?

p.s. - please don't ask me to download and run a bunch of hardware testing programs, I won't run any of them.

A:Can't add extensions to Edge browser on desktop PC

Did you get the anniversary update already?
Also I had a problem on my desktop PC(only, nut not my laptop or Insider VM) installing a "certain here unnameable" extension, also after trying to install it, Reliability History kept showing errors(a whole bunch) for Edge. So I did a repair install, and that fixed everything.
