My son hit some key on my laptop that turned the screen dim and I have been unable to make it brighter. Device manager says the monitor and display drivers are up to date. The display says that the screen is at 100% brightness but brightness doesn't change when I change that. Windows 10.
I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system
It's worked out well for many of us in the past.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)
Perhaps it would be helpful to add that on start-up it is always dim. It is not a case of starting bright and turning dim.Read other 1 answers
So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 750 GB
It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.
So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.
Anybody have any suggestions on what the probl... Read more
Are you able to get into the advanced boot menu by tapping F8? It might not be listed on the startup screen but it should still be there.
If not you can burn a repair disc from any PC with Windows 7. Theres steps from Microsoft Here.
I just bought this laptop for about 1 month, the laptop work fine before. But after...I don't know maybe after the windows update, the driver make the screen flickering and some dots appear on the screen, sometimes the screen lagging and went black. I'm pretty sure it's because of the driver because if I disable it, everything is fine, but that is just a temporary fix, every games is unplayable when I disable the driver. I tried to reinstall it using driver from Intel, Windows, Lenovo but none of them work(newest)Read other answers

Hi guys, this is my first post in these forums, Yesterday i had bought Lenovo ideapad 310-14KB, after checking all function is work normally, but the screen is yellowish than my old notebooks, but with different brands. Is that character of lenovo if i see white background is yellowish? because it's first time i'm using lenovo nb, or something wrong with my notebook? And if u have any idea to fix that, you can tell me to fix that problem. Thankyou for your support & attention, and sorry if i'm post in wrong place/thread. RegardsRead other answers
I bought this laptop 3 weeks ago. it's an intel i5 M520 with 4GB ram, 500gb hdd, ati radeon graphics, windows 7 64bit.
It crashed 3 times so far, and everytime after an hour of using the laptop only in battery while using the integrated video card. I didnt try with ATI card to run on battery. But I always use ATI when I am using an external monitor while it is plugged and it never crashed then. It did not crash when i was switching the graphics card.
I had to push down the power button to shut down as nothing was responding.
Havent installed anything complicated other than phpeditor and ftp filezilla, mozilla, chrome.
NOte that i reinstalled Windows to factory settings again using OneKey Recovery.
And to my disappointment it happened again and Today instead of being frozen it went to blue screen and restarted auto. Here is what the windows problem solver showed. What should I do? Take it to a service center, i have warranty. Thanks a lot in advance for your help. I also attached the .dmp and .xml file in .zip format.

Hi and welcome Abu
This is pretty straight foward, your BSOD was caused by your intel wifi driver, please download and install fresh copy of it
Driver Removal and Reinstallation:
Please do the following:
- download a fresh copy of the latest Windows 7 version of the program for this driver from the Intel website (NOT from Windows Update or from the Update driver function in Device Manager). If there are no Windows 7 drivers, post back for further instructions on installing Vista drivers using Compatibility mode.
- uninstall the current version from your system
- install the freshly downloaded version
- check to see if you have any further BSOD's

I'm trying to repair this machine for my nephew. When I turn it on, it never moves past the Lenovo splash screen. I tried the NOVO button, but it just goes to the same Lenovo screen, and just cycles off again after about 5 seconds. I don't know that much about Lenovo laptops. I've tried pushing the F2, F12, FN+F2, FN+F12 to no avail. I can't get to any BIOS options, or boot it through a boot CD. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!Read other answers
I have a lenovo ideapad y500 with a 1366x768 screen, and I am looking to pop open the screen, and replace the panel with a 1920x1080 screen. Assuming that I purchase another 15.6 inch screen (size of the original screen), is this possible? A model of the y500 is sold with a 1080p display, and the graphics card in my model is more than capable of outputting such a resolution. I was just wondering if there is a chance that the connections between my laptop and new screen would not match as I do not know if there is some sort of standard port with screens. Thanks!
You would need to find out the exact model of the 1080p screen was that was sold with that model and order the same one or compatible replacement model. Laptop screens are not universally interchangeable and you can't just buy any screen and connect it.
Greetings I flashed lenovo s10-3 with newest bios, downloded from lenovo site (on the site atomaticaly detected my nb model and serial number and after then I downloaded new bios), bios flashed successfully (I think so because I have see no error message, I can post log too), but after restart I get no screen (blank screen), only led blinks and fan starts, but no screen. Can you help me out? NB is out of warranty, I am sure I have not made mistake and I seen on forum there other people telling same problem after bios update. Is there some recovery procedure which I should try? Thx, best regards!

Hi, I bought my Ideapad Y700 in December 2015, so it's half year old. Warranty is 2 years after entering S/N on Lenovo website. Please only reply to this if you are form Lenovo support. Question: Will opening back lid of the laptop to check for connection between screen and rest of the laptop void my warranty ? I suspect it's a cable that got lose, but I would like to be sure if it's worth even checking. Is it ok to open screws to have a look inside or will that void my warranty ? Additional information: Screen blinks even when booting, before operating system and also in BIOS. So it really looks like hardware problem.Read other answers
Hi. Just a few days ago, I purchase a 14.5 inch wide Lenovo IdeaPad 100s. I also own a TEAC Screen/Monitor, which I connect them together with a HDMI cord to have dual monitors. Recently, while I was playing a game on my computer, my screen just flashed white, and stayed white, but my other monitor (which I have them to be extended for more room) was completely responsive. I turned off my computer by holding down the power button until the charging and power button were both off, then switched it back on. Instead, the computer appeared to be on (the power and charging lights were switched on) but the screen was just blank and black and my dual monitor (the TEAC television) acted as my one and only monitor. I logged on and went to my settings, to check if there were any signs of my laptop screen working, but there wasn't it only said my TEAC monitor was the only screen I had. Any help of what I can do? (NOTE: I use Windows 10)Read other answers
Hi there, do you know the solution for this?
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
We are sorry to hear that display is flickering in your Lenovo idea pad 500s-141SK.
Please do confirm which operating system is running on your laptop.
Check in BIOS if issue persists.
Confirm if flickering happens when you are closing and opening the lid.

Laptop is running on Windows 10. Yesterday I updated my AMD graphics driver using the update tool from AMD. After all the necessary files were downloaded and installed, I was prompted to restart and I did. Upon restart, the laptop would not boot past the Lenovo screen. The white circles that rotate always freeze and it just stays on the Lenovo screen upon every attempt to boot. I can't enter safe mode or the bios options, what can I do to fix this? P.S. A few months ago I began having an issue with the sleep mode. When trying to enter sleep mode, the laptop would just shut down unexpectedly and almost instantly. I'm not sure what caused this issue, but I've just been avoiding it by shutting down instead of sleeping. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, or if the restart was interrupted by an unexpected shutdown.Read other answers
I bought this laptop about a week ago, and for the most part I love it. Unfortunately though, I've been experience an annoying black screen freeze for no apparent reason. Some days the laptop will work fine for several hours and other days it'll keep turning black and freezing up for no apparenent reason every 15 or so minutes. I did open it up to add an SSD to the available slot and move the operating system to it, but I don't see how this would cause a problem, ive even been through every device in the device manager to check for driver and bios updates too. I have lately been encountering some problems in which my lenovo laptop's screen would completely freeze up with no response to inputs afterwards. An intense buzzing sound can be heard from my headphones when this happens. this usually happens when i am gaming and requires me to force shut down but I do not recall this happening before. any ideas of what's wrong?
Well first of I would run a disk check since it has been hanging, Right click on Start, select Command Prompt (Admin) and in the command windows type: chkdsk /f Press Enter and type Y to schedule the scan for the next boot, and then restart the system. Once that is complete I would check for an updated video driver at support.lenvo.com Does it only occur on a particular game, or just any game? If just one game, have you checked the game boards for anyone else having that issue? Also check to make sure your laptops vents are clear of dust, and use a Vacuum to clean them if needed.Read other 1 answers
Hi all, this is my first time posting into the forum and I would like to apologise if i have made some mistakes anywhere so please bear with me.The laptop screen turns black after moments of usage and after a few days of using it the problem slowly disappears on its own. After two weeks, I reset my laptop and the problems came back. The screen turns black and all the activity going on behind stopped instantly. I searched for solutions anywhere and I can't find one, the only thing i can do is holding the power button on and off again. Setting the display to never sleep and turning on screensavers won't solve the problem either. This problem frustrates me very much. Does anyone else have this kind of problem? If so, anyone has any solution regarding this problem? I would appreciate it greatly if there's any solution
I am having this problem with the Edge 2-1580 when running on battery power. Screen shuts off after 15 - 45 minutes of use and I need to hard reset by holding power button. Seems like a lot of people with different models are having this problem, but no solutions. I've tried updating BIOS, drivers, factory resetting, adjusting power settings, all to no avail. I tried chatting with live support last night and "Chris" had me download the Lenovo Solution Center program and do a hardware scan but of course the scan came back with no problems. I can't believe with so many people having this problem that Lenovo hasn't come out with a solution. Sorry I can't help more, but I hope you find an answer!Read other 2 answers

Hello So a while ago I posted about a problem I was having that caused my laptop(fairly new 1.5 months now) to randomly crash or go in a blacklit screen mode where the only option to get it working again is to hard reset it. I think a lenovo community memeber posted up a fix that i should download (Intel Management Enginer Hardware .. something like that). That fix did not work and then I tried the suggested method by a customer which only worked for a week. I also contancted lenovo and allowed them access to my computer and all that was done was updating the drivers. My warranty is for a year and I would have to send it to get it fixed My questions are, is there anything else I can do myself to resolve this issue? If lenovo cannot solve this issue what can be done about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I just started university and I often find I fall behind on some programming for a course because I cannot bring my laptop to school as it is pretty much uselessRead other answers

I have a Levono 330 which device manager says has an Intel HD Graphics 5500 display and the max resolution is 1366 x 768. Not great but adequate.
I installed the Oracle VM 5 (in order to run some old DOS software) and created a virtual XP machine - that was dead easy.
Oracel VM defaulted the XO machine to a small window at 800x600. I changed the screen resolution and it allowed a maximum of 1600x1200 so whooppee, I selected 1600x1200. The screen resolution was visibly better than the 1366x768 that I had under native windows 10. So it would seem that the screen can cope with a higher resolution that 1366x768 - or am I kidding myself!?
So how do I get Windows 10 to let me set a screen resolution of 1600x1200 that I can set in the VM?
Silly boy. I just noticed that the increase dots come from increasing the size of hte screen to a point where it does not all fit on at the same time!! :-(

Sounds like a corrupted file system, so try running chkdsk.
How to run System File Checker (SFC) or chkdsk from the Recovery ConsoleBoot your Vista or Windows 7 installation DVD
When you see "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD", press Enter
At the "Install Windows" screen, click on Repair your computer at lower left
At the System Recovery Options screen, make note of the drive letter assigned to your boot drive (normally C and click Next
At the Chose a Recovery Tool window, click on Command Prompt. You will be sitting at X:\Sources directory
Run SFC or chkdskIf you did not note the drive letter of your boot disk, you can enter bcdedit and look at the osdevice line to see what it is.
For sfc, type sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows and press Enter (use the letter from above)
For chkdsk, type chkdsk c: /r and press Enter (use the letter from above).
Let either run to completion undisturbed.
