Preferred Solution: T470 20HD BIOS Recalled?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've updated my T470s with the latest 1.21 BIOS update from 28.Dec.2017 (n1wur16w) with md5 beeb3c910f15fe1e37e8cb72ac67adee. However this has been probably recalled, since now I see only 1.20 available for download. How can I find the reason 1.21 was recalled? I have 1.21 successfully installed, but I'm curious if there are any issues with it.

A:T470s BIOS version 1.21 recalled?

Well, the readme is still available - https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1wur16w.txt, but not the executable. Heh. This is the patch for one of the Meltdown CVEs (5715). There's another thread - https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/KB4056892-multiple-problems-on-T440s/td-... that's tracking Windows Hardware errors (WHEA-Logger) errors in the System event log, if the Meltdown patch from Microsoft has been installed as well. Read up on that thread to see if you're having similar problems there and of so, look at post # 19 for a possible registry workaround until a better patch comes out, if you're seeing the same symptoms.

Hello all, I unfortunately spilled coffee on my T470 and the keyboard at this point is no longer in action. Rest of computer seems to be fine. (fingers crossed). Being this is my work computer I have gone ahead and purchased a keyboard replacement opposed to trying any other cleaning methods. Here is my issue, from what I have read I need to disable the internal battery from the BIOS before pulling and replacing keyboard. I am having issues with this as my f1 key is not functioning and my external keyboard is not getting me to the BIOS when I reboot the computer. So Im not sure how to excactly disbable it. Any advise? Could I just unplug the power, pull the removable battery and let the internal battery drain?  Side note, the current keyboard is acting finicky, sticking keys etc/interfering with external keyboard. Its not aweful but its annoying. Can I pull the internal keyboard before I get the replacement and just use the external one? Thanks for the help in advanced.

As the title says, top right USB port on my T470 doesn't work after BIOS v1.42 update when device is plugged in on boot.  Non of devices power up when plugged into that port. Naturally there's nothing in dmesg. This is not OS-dependent since devices don't power up in BIOS screen as well. The other 2 ports still work as expected. Restarting doesn't help. After some cold boots the ports starts working again. This never happened with previous BIOS versions.

My laptop is an HP ENVY 15-u010dx I was using it while charging, and suddenly heard a pop, the screen shut down, no lights appear indicating the laptop is charging. It will not turn on.I want to find out if the laptop's battery was one of the ones that was recalled on June 14th 2016, however because the battery is enclosed inside, I can't access the battery's serial number.  I also want to know if there is hope for the computer reviving if the battery is replaced?  I have called tech support, and both times I was told to use the program that diagnoses the problem. The issue is, I can't turn on the laptop in order to do that... I purchased the laptop in January 2015. It had a one year warranty (although when I checked it, the warranty had expired November 2015 even though it hadn't been a year yet) Anyway, it's not very old, and I would expect it to last longer than 1 year and 7 months.

Hello, I bought a lightly used T470 with 256gb PCIe SSD and just received a "new" 512gb Samsung PM961 PCIe SSD pulled from a new laptop. I've downloaded the recovery media to USB drive and was planning on just doing a fresh install of everything after upgrading the SSD.This is my first time to replace SSD or hard drive so I'm sorry for these basic questions, but:1) If I'm planning on selling the 256gb SSD that is coming out what should I do to wipe it or prepare it for someone else?2) Is there anything I should do to the replacement 512gb SSD after installation to ensure it is clean either before or after re-installing windows?3) Is there anything else I should be aware of or that I should think about since I'm doing this for the first time? I also have a new internal battery (it did not originally have one) and a WWAN card that I'm going to install. Should I do these in stages (SSD and Windows install first, then internal battery, then WWAN card) to make sure all is working properly? Thanks very much

Hello, I just ordered a second-hand T470 with a 256gb PCIe SSD and I plan on upgrading to a 500gb or 512gb SSD but trying to decide which way to go. I'm quite a novice regarding this stuff, so please forgive me. I think I read somewhere that due to the way the drive is connected a M.2 PCIe SSD may not be noticeably any better than a 2.5 SSD. Would that be correct?  I would be doing mostly basic small business computing- Excel (nothing complicated), Quickbooks, multiple browsers, Outlook, email, etc. The laptop is a t470, FHD touchscreen, i5-7300, 8gb, 256gb PCIe and I plan on adding and utilizing a WWAN card.I currently have a 3-yr old Samsung 840EVO 2.5 SSD in my T420 that I could possibly just use or could purchase a new Samsung 850EVO/Pro 2.5 SSD or 960EVO/ Pro M.2 PCIe. Any suggestions? Value is a factor. Also, I've read that only certain part numbers of the EM7455 WWAN card will work with the newer T470. Anyone experience their T470 being hot while suspended? I should note that I'm using Linux, but from reviewing dmesg the laptop is suspended on lid closed. The red light pulsates, but the CPU gets hot. First noticed after pulling it out of my bag, and it was very hot. Kernel dmesg shows it waking up when I open the lid, but obviously not everything is powering down how it should. I haven't tried with Windows yet, but would it make a difference? I am currently the happy owner of a T430. I have 750gb SSD in my HDD bay, 250gb SSD in the M2 bay and a 1.5 TB harddisk in the DVD slot. I need, as you can see, a lot of storage capacity. I would like to by a new laptop - preferably Lenovo T470 (TPs have served me extremely well since its inception). Now, it appears I cannot get so much storage in a new T470. Samsung recently announced 970 EVO NVMe M.2. with 2TB. I was wondering if I can install this in a T470 and how I can possibly add to this. So, my basic question is, how much of what storage can I put in a new T470 as it currently stands.

A:T470 - hopw much SSD can I put into it.

Hi,

I'd expect that 2TB SSD to work as long as it's 2280, PCIe,  and you have the SSD mounting bracket and cable in the T470.  But that's just an educated guess at this point.

The 470 also has a 2242 m.2 SATA slot (the WWAN/SSD slot) that can be used to add capacity.  To my knowledge the largest available is 512GB.

Minor nit: your T430 has an mSATA slot, not m.2.

BTW, your post subject doesn't seem to quite match the content.

Z.

Been a T owner off and on since the IBM days.   T's just last so back again and picked up a nice refurb T470.   However, unexpectedly I never even considered that the light (bezel or keyboard) was optional.   Thus, I chatted online with a Lenovo rep who said I would have to post to the forum as there is no direct email for comment.   Okay, everyone can now laugh at me...and say, you committed an ID 10 T error and always review ALL specs. No problems with the machine, infact, it appears practically brand new - replaced a i5 Alienware 13 (3yrs and down hill after 1yr).   But, I honestly expected the keyboard to light up - nope, that is an optional feature.   Maybe I was just lucky before, but I thought the light feature was standard for the T series as a business laptop on the go.   Not returning the machine...and I do think the keyboard can be upgraded to the backlit? Thanks Lenovo for making a strong laptop ... been a T series Thinkpad fanboy for too many years to note.   Didn't want everyone to see my hiccup on my part, but, I do miss the Light. Sincerely, NormPierre SD

Hello, am thinking of upgrading my old 24" ThinkVision 1200p monitor to a bigger 27" P27h 1440p monitor, but will the Intel HD 620 be able to handle 2460x1440 resolution? I tried last week a 4K monitor, and the whole system just slowed down, almost not usable, but would like a bigger and better screen, and at 27" 1440p is the minimum I think a screen should be to get decent PPI without scaling. Will be conected to my Thinkpad 25 through the ultra dock with display cable, only the external monitor will be used, turns off the laptop screen, and only one monitor. Will mostly just be using office apps, but also web, youtube, video and photo edit casual gaming (like AOE and Starcraft II).

A:Can I use the RAM from my T460 in a T470?

The T460 uses DDR3L chipset whereas the T470 uses a DDR4 chipset.  These aren't backwards or fowards compatible, so you'll need DDR4 SODIMM memory.

As for storage, both run on the SATA or PCIe interface, so you'll be fine there.

Try this, boot up to the Windows Installation USB, and then at the welcome screen  press Shift + F10 and it should open a command window. In the command window type:   diskpartAt the DISKPART> prompt, type:  list disk You should get a display showing the available disks, most likely the SSD will be Disk 0 if the only drive install, but if not note the Disk number of the SSD and replace the x in the command with that number. Type: select disk x     which should return "Disk x is now the selected disk"Type: clean Close the command window and proceed with the installation and see if it will complete normally. Good Luck,

My Lenovo T470 has 2 batteries. The second battery (the external one) is charged with 79% but my laptop doesn't use this battery it only uses the first battery. It keeps showing "and not charging" even if the charger isn't plugged in (as you can see in the first picture). In the second picture I've plugged the charger in and it still says "and not charging". Does someone knows the solution to this problem??

I searched Intel's datasheets for my i7-6600u, where I found that the DDR4 RAM is capped at 2133 MHz, but I couldn't find out of there is a cap for any M.2 SSD speeds. Would I be able to install the latest Samsung SSD for example? Or do I need to be selective?

Battery is 24+24W 3 cell. Charging cycle takes 4~6hOn charge the , i can work for no more than 2h 20m max. I use outlook, notepad++ jabber & chrome with max 4 open tabs. Another colleague of mine received the very same model on same day. His observation is charging 10~100% in 1h max & hold time of 6~8h.  I am confused why the difference in my laptop that too barely a week old. Please advise. Actions performed:Battery Gauge reset via Lenovo Vantage (18-jan 20:55h to 19-Jan 10:13h).
