Preferred Solution: Is the latest BIOS upgrade v1.60 OK for Win 10 installations?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-P61-S3 (rev. 2.0)

Ive managed to update/flash (its the same thing?) my bios from F5 to F7 version within an utility provided by motherboard manufacturer called @BIOS ( you can find it on the same support and download section ). I had 3 options to update: from server, file or drive and I choosed the 1st one. The latest F8 version is no longer BETA but I couldnt upgrade to it at least not from server and I think I really need this since its more than half an year ahead of the previous.

However I downloaded the F8 files from manufacturer page , unpacked them and I had 3 files : one windows BATCH file "autoexec"
one aplication "Efiflash" and the F8 file p62s3.f8( I guess I need to put it on a flash drive ) .While atempting to run the 1st one I got the unsupported 16-bit aplication, with Efiflash something similar " this app cant run on this pc" message from windows 8.
So should I put them on a flash drive and then from bios menu to enter Q-flash and select update from drive or maybe doing the same witht hat utility I mentioned above? I have a Sandisk cruzer blade 16 gb.Is this good for this operation?

A:Cant upgrade to the latest BIOS

efiflash is a DOS utility. You'd want to prepare a bootable DOS USB drive and run it from that.

I'm not familiar with Qflash, but if it's equivalent to Asus' EZ Flash, that would be the simpler way to do it. I wonder whether you'd need to add the right file extension to the actual BIOS file. (For most Asus boards, the extension is .rom, but for some it's .cap.)

I'd suggest that that you read the manual, but I don't see anything about BIOS updates in the downloadable version. Shame.

Greetings!

I have Acer Aspire 5750G. My current BIOS version is 1.07. The latest version is 1.12.

There are a few versions in between. Should I do incremental updates and reach 1.12 or should I just go direct to 1.12?

Many Thanks!

A:BIOS - Incremental updates to latest vrsn or direct update to latest?

Bios updates are cumulative, so you only need the latest.

You also don't need to update the bios unless there is a fix in it/them that fixes an issue you may be having. For the most part updating the bios is as easy as updating a driver, only if a bios update goes wrong you can't roll back to the old and you basically end up with a nice paperweight.

Downgrading Windows Vista Home to Windows XP SP3. I was originally shooting for a dual boot, but I've given up on that and am willing to just settle for XP.

After a few botched tries, and a couple of reformats I have gotten XP fully installed and functioning on C: When I go into disk management I see a C: listed as primary system partition and then an unallocated partition with the letter H: When I try and change drive letters it does not give me options for D: or F: G: .

First, I would like to clean up the letters on the drive partitions and make everything neat and tidy.

Second, when I boot the machine up it lists two installations of Windows XP, one of them will boot, and the other one will not. How do I get rid of this other lingering installation?

I've tried to give as many details as I can I have a feeling it's probably an easy fix, so hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction.

Thanks

A:Two Installations of Windows XP Show up in BIOS

and welcome to the Forum

What size is the unallocated partiton? When you installed, did you delete all partitions then create new one(s)

For the Multiple Boot Paths:

Try this . . Click on Start . . Run . . type msconfig . . click on the Boot Ini tab and click on Check all boot paths . . if it comes back with one is invalid, click Fix invalid boot paths

Hello all,
Just bought this laptop from ebay and I am looking to upgrade my current BIOS (A03) to the latest one (A23). But I am not able to install this latest BIOS (A23) unless my current BIOS is (A05). I follow the instruction on Dell support site and trying to download (A05) but it does not show anything in the links.
Where can I find this (A05) BIOS for my laptop?
Here is the instruction provided by Dell Driver and Download:
Note:
1. Please note that if the A04 or before A04 BIOS is currently installed on your system, you must first update to A05 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.A05 link: www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails2. Please note that if the A05 or after A05 BIOS and before A08 is currently installed on your system, you must first update to A08 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.A08 link: www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails

Autodesk Inventor 2009 SP1 wont install
The common theme seems to corrupt cab files. I've tried having the UAC turned off, it's a brand new machine without any antivirus on it (yet). I've tried to download and install all of these multiple times, I've even downloaded a few of them on a different computer to see if that was the problem.
Does anyone have any clues as to what could be causing these issues?

Try one of two things :

1) IN either the "run" window or "start search" off the Start Menu type in %temp% then press Enter. This will open the Temporary Files folder. Delete all the files present here. Some may fail to delete as an open process is using them. This is normal and fine. Reboot. Retry the update

2) Run "msconfig" in the same manor you ran the other command. Goto the startup tab and click "Disable All", click OK and reboot. Try the update. Once it completes, assuming it does, re-run that command, back to the startup tab and click "Enable All" and reboot.

Do we know what will happen with users who have a WIMBoot Installation (aka compressed) installation of Windows 8.1 Update on their system?

Will they get the update like the others or will they have to create their own Windows 10 WIMBootinstallation?

edit: typo

A:Upgrade for Win 8.1 Update WMIBoot Installations to Win 10

I get the impression from this Twitter exchange that, as of early May, it was supposed to work but it wasn't exactly working smoothly (if you click on the link and look at the replies).

It may be better in the more recent builds though.

I have a WimBoot tablet but I haven't risked attempting Win10 upgrade yet. When I do, before I even start it, I think my plan will include:
Switch off the device encryption that some of these Win8.1 devices have by default (including mine) and leave it a while until everything is decryptedTurn off Secure Boot (NB this requires Step 1 to be completed first) so I can get in again if things go wrongMake sure I can boot from a USB - change other BIOS settings if neededMake a full image with Macrium Reflect Free or similarFree up as much disk space as I can- the installer will presumably try to keep a copy of Windows in Windows.old, and also have the old recovery partition, and want to create Win10 equivalents.
Worth noting that Microsoft seem to have already ditched WimBoot and moved to an alternative method of compressed operating systems. I suspect that installing from an ISO it won't be trivial to set this up to make it install Windows 10 in a compressed way on a clean install; it's possible that upgrading via Windows Update may be easier in this instance as it might know how to compress it.

Yes, the RAM can be upgraded to 2X16 = 32 G.
The internal GPU cannot be upgraded - you'd need to buy an external Alienware graphics amplifier and use an external GPU to upgrade.

I see several threads looking for XPS 8500  video card upgrades that can be used with the stock 460w PSU or upgraded PSU.   However, in upgrading the GPU for this machine, there are some cards that will not be compatible and will result in a black screen.    Even with a proper video card install, an adequate and/or upgraded power supply , the video card fans will be working, but there will be no video.   The problem lies in the BIOS for the XPS 8500 motherboard not recognizing the video card and this is a known issue that has carried over from the XPS 8300 to the current XPS 8500.
There have been vidoe BIOS upgrades from some card makers to correct this problem for certain cards, but there are a lot of legacy cards that won't work.  Safest bet would be to use a newer card with the PCI 3.0 spec.
In the sticky in this forum a link to the current Dell drivers shows the following video cards that are supported with drivers for Windows 8:

A:XPS 8500 compatible graphic card installations and avoiding video BIOS issues

I just installed a GTX 970 into my Dell XPS 8500 with out issues on the first try.
These were the parts:

Updated my XPS 8500 Motherboard Bios to version "A12" while waiting for my parts to arrive
EVGA NVIDIA GTX 970 Superclocked Graphics Card (EVGA 04G-2974-KR)
EVGA SuperNOVA 750B1 750W Power Supply (PSU) (110-B1-0750-VR)

Note, that I choose the "Back Blower" version of the card rather than the double fan ATX 2.0 version.  That's because the case design of the XPS 8500 doesn't have "Great" circulation.   The "Reference" style  (Solid video card shell with a single fan -- that draws air in from the case in... and vents out the back of the PC) is better suited to the XPS.
Putting a new Powersupply into a Dell XPS 8500 is a bit of a trick.   All ATX Power Supplies have about the same Height and width  (150mm or 5.09" wide)  and (86mm or 3.38" high).    The problem is the Depth.   How deep into your PC can it reach  (extending towards the back side of your CD/DVD).   Don't forget, you have that tiny sunken  USB/Headphone jack thing midway:
I did some measurements, and realized that the MAX PSU depth that would work would be about 165mm or about 6.5".     That's tricky because I wanted a 750w plus power supply, and its REALLY, REALLY hard to find a good power supply under with less than (180mm / 7.09&... Read more

Hi there,

This is something I've seen for the first time: latest BIOS version (that, by chance, I use) disappears from site.

A few months ago I updated the BIOS (HP Insyde) to the latest version: site mentioned this is version F.26 and all went well.
Checked BIOS and System Info: yep is F.26 alright.
I have it backuped. Was released in April - May.

There are no issues at all so far but HP seems to have reverted back to version F.24 as the latest one on the website.
I don't think it's possible to revert back the update because it was mentioned in the change-log but to me this version is stable.

This is the same site and laptop model.
Notice sp60606 for F.24 while the F.26 is called sp61457...

I wonder why they removed it...
Any ideas on this one? Anyone else seen this or similar on their machines?

Well, since all functions normally I'll keep this F.26 version and check their site regularly just in case.

Thanks

A:BIOS latest version

Maybe they pulled it because of this discovered issue when certain hardware configurations were trying (unsuccessfully) to update to F.26:

I flashed my bios to try to fix a problem with the display backlight.  I think I flashed the wrong file (i.e. for a different model computer), and now my computer will not recognise any boot media.  So I am trying to recover using the method posted here.  My question is, I got the most recent bios flash from the HP support webpage, but it is a .exe file (sp70486.exe).  The recovery method requires the actual ROM.  How can I either get the ROM out of the .exe file, or where can I download the ROM? PS the Pavilion 23-F269 has a AAHD3-AT motherboard. Or should I just buy a new BIOS chip from ebay?

A:Getting the latest BIOS ROM file

Hi I downloaded sp70486.exe and opened it with 7 zip. 3 files inside. The batch file called 'flash.bat' contains the following. mountvol z: /sdel z:\efi\hp\bios\current\*.bincopy .\AK2_8011.bin z:\efi\hp\bios\currentmountvol z: /dsafuwin AK2_8011.bin /p /b /n /r /k /reboot  Also in the zip file are 2 files "safuwin.exe" and "AK2_8011.bin", so I copied the .bin into another directory so it could be used elsewhere. I hope this helps, obviously I cant run or attach such files here, but I believe you can achieve what you want quite easily.  =======================================================================DetailsThis package provides an update to the HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOSUpdate (ROM Family 2AF8) for the supported desktop models andsupported operating systems.Details:-  This package provides an update to the HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS (ROM Family 2AF8) for supported models running a supported operating system File name: sp70486.exe   Release details  Released: Jan 26, 2015  Version 80.11 Rev.AFix and enhancementsImproved security of UEFI code and variables. I had a query. My cousin has an HP Pavilion dv4-1318TU laptop.

I wanted to update the BIOS as current BIOS is really old, and since then 4 BIOS updates have been made available, which fix many things. My query is, should I download and install just the latest BIOS, or should I install the previous versions first, since each version fixed somethings.

Will the fix for the previous version be there in the latest BIOS? Logically, it should be so, but I was just wondering, and wanted to be sure.

Here are the changes in BIOS:

Apparently tech support is aware about this since they recommended me to roll back to the previous version while on the phone as well. I take it this means they are looking into it and can expect another BIOS update soon(ish).

Hello I would like to ask:I updated my BIOS last night to the latest version. I am on Windows 10, HP Envy x360. I updated it sucessfully and I am not facing any issues as of now. I wasn't facing one before I updated. Everything was going smoothly but I saw in the HP Support Assistant that I have numerous things to update so I clicked it all & updated. When the BIOS finished installing the computer restarted and I continued updating the others (which included the BIOS internal) but in the middle of the update, I stopped it. And it said it's not applicable anymore. I clicked to update again & the other 3 (there was 4 of them including the BIOS internal) updated succesfully. I even contacted support at that same night to let them do the manual update to give me a peace of mind. The technician said I updated it correctly. But what I read on everyp site on the internet that not to update the BIOS. So I am worrying & scared right now because my laptop might encounter problems that weren't there before the update. I am regretting my decision, I am not a techy person and I don't understand the computer world very well yet I decided to update without knowing first what it was. I am very scared of what might happen because of my carelessness. My questions are:1. Will updating the latest version of the BIOS without any problems in the hardware or anything (it was running smoothly, I just recently purchased it) harm the laptop or give problems to the laptop?2. To all with an 860-019 desktop. Don't install the latest bios update. Mine would not install update. Chatted with tech support (first mistake) they told me they would install update (second mistake). I allowed Joyce in Bangladesh (doubt that is really her name) to try and update (third mistake)Now I have an inoperative pc. Can't even get into Windows. Just a set up screen that says manufacturing program is in unlock mode. I did manage to get into the bios set up a couple of times. It no longer has any info on the system such as model, SKU, serial number etc. So I can even do a system restore. So tech support did an amazing job giving me a 1500 dollar paper weight. I did talk to a senior person and got the standard reply if we will send a box and you send it for repair. So an HP tech ruins my pc and now they expect me to send it off to be fixed. This is not the first one they have done this too. The last one required a new mother board. So I asked if they could just send the mother board and I would change it out. Funny thing I was told they don't have one. So how are they going to fix it in the promised 10 days with out the parts. It would be much faster for me to change it. Then funny enough they offered for me to buy a new mother board and they would reimburse me. Funny they don't have one to send but they have one for me to buy?Now as this pc that my daughter uses for university studies is dead and I am forced to buy another one so my daughter can do her school work. A:Don't install latest bios will brick your pc

Sorry to hear of this unfortunate event with your new PC. A BIOS update is something I always reommend to consider the risks vs any enhancement it offers. In other words, if the machine is functioning well why risk it. I have seen too many go awry. Double warning  when a BIOS update balks on installing- never try to force it. I do understand the irritation when supposedly there is an update but it fails and an owner feels they must address it... Have you tried a BIOS rollback to revert to earlier version? This works in some-not all- cases. 1-Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key.2-When the menu appears, tap F2 for System Diagnostics.3-In the list of items will be Firmware Management.Use the arrow key to move down & highlight it.Press Enter key.4-You should see a Rollback BIOS option.Use arrow key again to highlight and press Enter key.

Right... So here I am trying to perform miracles with a XFX/NVidia board again. I'm running out of hair to pull out, but I can't afford to get another one right now.

I'm sure the whole world knows that XFX and NVidia aren't buddies anymore, and I know that XFX skimped on the processor TDP ratings to 'save money', but I'm not sure if this problem is a faulty BIOS from XFX or if my chip is failing.. Anybody else still running this board? Perhaps someone can give a second opinion here...

Currently I'm running the v1.6 BIOS, the latest is v1.7. My PC doesn't have any problems with 1.6, I was just trying to see if I could get a Phenom II 740 BE to work on this board. The BIOS flashes without any problems, no errors or warnings or suspicious beeps.. But then the two-digit diagnostic LED on the board goes haywire with 1.7, with 1.6 it shows normal alpha-numeric codes, but on 1.7 the lines are completely mixed up and don't make any legible numbers or letters.

I must admit, other than that, I haven't found any problems.. My 740 BE still didn't work, but I'm not sure if that was also because of the BIOS or not. Has anybody else perhaps tried this BIOS yet...? If not, and you're comfortable with it, could you try it and see? I had no issues flashing back to 1.6 after trying 1.7, so you don't have to worry about being stuck on it if you don't like it...

A:XFX 750a SLI - Latest BIOS Update

I just flashed my motherboard (xfx 750a sli) to latest version 1.7 and I am having the same problems with the LED. I also think that my SATA devices have been disabled. Only my IDE drives are recognized. I created a support ticket on MOBO site but no response yet. I was wondering if you could send me the 1.6 ISO so I can reflash my system. Thanks.

Hi, @Reddwarf4ever : Yes, I would imagine if the BIOS update bricks the notebook on W7, the same would apply to W10 as well. You already have the latest BIOS installed which is F.34, so you don't have to be concerned. http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv6800-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/...

Hello, I have recently upgraded my OS to Windows 7 on my Pavillion Notebook, which is a dv6700, with product number KW097EA#UUW, and with an AMD processor. Its bios version is F.34, and I would like to know if it's the latest bios. Unfortunately I cannot find my computer model on the website, so I'm needing your help. Also, will the latest bios allow me to install more ram? I currently have 2GB.

A:Latest bios update help (dv6700)

Hi: Yes, F.34 is the latest BIOS version and if you have that installed, good. I am going to save you from having to strip your notebook for parts and tossing it in the trash if you try to flash the BIOS after you installed Windows 7. DON'T FLASH THE BIOS IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED WINDOWS 7. There will be a 100% chance of totally bricking your notebook if you do. Below is the link to the support and driver page for your specific notebook model. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3717145&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=228&query=KW097EA&sw_lang=&tool= As long as the BIOS in your PC is at F.27 or newer, there is no reason that you can't install 4 GB of memory in your notebook right now. I have a dv6810us with the same hardware as yours and I am running W7 64 bit with 4 GB of memory (2 x 2GB of PC2-6400), and it works just fine. If you ever need to flash the BIOS (which you shouldn't ever need to), you will need to reinstall Vista, flash it, and reinstall W7.

Hello everyone! I have recently ungraded the motherboard of my B590 to HM77 so that I could use it with an Iintel core i5. My question is, is the latest BIOS for Lenovo B590 for both versions of these laptops? I mean, does it support HM77 chip? The current BIOS of the board is very old (2013) and Windows won't switch to Nvida GPU despite it's presense in the device mangager. Thanks and I really appreacite your support!

I'm not clear on whether you have a B90 or a B590.   It would be helpful to get the full model number (from where the serial number is), and a screenshot of a 'sys info'.   Thx.

Hi: I wouldn't install that BIOS.  Might be too risky. I would imagine folks are installing the BIOS update from one of the HP consumer desktop PC's that use the same or very similar motherboard. http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/Compaq-Presario-CQ5100-Desktop-PC-series/3942817/mod... Here is the list of supported processors... http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01399523 95W is the maximum supported wattage.

Did anyone update their 390 with this version and have the computer stop working with a diagnostic of 2, 4 - video card problem?I am running my 390 with a Radeon X800 card. I had to re-insert the NVS 285 that came with the computer and downgrade back to version 2.3.0 to get it to work again.Thanks.

A:latest precision 390 bios - version 2.4.0

I just got my Precision 390 Thursday, and I immediately updated it w/the new 2.4.0 BIOS. Everything went OK w/my update. At the time, I still had the NVS 285 video card that came w/it, installed. Since then, I have installed an ATI X1950 XTX video card, 4 gb of memory, and re[laced the processor w/the Intel Q6600 processor. Everything is working OK.
