I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome
You can actually install windows without giving the key number. You are allowed a certain number of days to give the number or you will lose use of Windows. In addition you can do it so many times (rearm). It probably does not apply to you any longer but you can do it once more.

I wanted to test the rearm option to extend my Windows 7 RTM trial period.

I found all kinds of tutorials but the easiest one I found was

Open CMD with Admin rights
Go to C:\Windows\System32
Type slmgr.vbs ?rearm
Restart after prompt of sucess

This didn?t work and it complained about the parameter after slmgr.vbs

So the solution was
slmgr.vbs /rearm
to check after rebooting
slmgr.vbs /dlv

Did MS changed that?

Configuration: Office laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) and MS Office 2007 Pro; attached to MS Exchange Server 2003 using Cached Exchange Mode. Everything was working fine until I took laptop home, connected to my home network, VPN'ed into my office, and then returned to the office. Logged on and connected to Windows Server 2003 as usual. With one email in outbox, I Send/Receive and Outlook now reports sending 3 of 3. I think I noticed while VPN'ed into the office at home that it reported sending 2 of 2 with only one email in the outbox. What's up with this??? Thanks for any guidance.

Hey everyone,

so i tried to rearm my Win7 Prof 32bit for the very first time with the "slmgr -rearm" command.
When i run the "slmgr -dlv" command it now shows me a remaining time of 29 days. That's ok.
But when i go to control panel/system it still shows me "2 days left".

Anybody experienced the same? Did the rearm work or should i worry about what happens in 2 days?

Hi:

I am running 7260x64 (I mean 7264 not 7260 - sorry for the typo) on one of my machines, which I have not activated. In a week, I will be going away on holiday-vacation for those in the US (at day 22 of my 30 days) and will not be coming back until day 35. I was wondering what would happen if i forgot to rearm before I left. I assume that when I came back, I would be in reduced functionality mode. Would I be able to rearm once I am in reduced functionality mode, or would I be "up a creek without a paddle?"

Thanks,

Mark

You could probably do it from safe mode.

Hi, I recently installed a copy of Vista Ultimate for a test run. I got comfortable with it and unfortunatley the 30 Day activation grace period expired before i could migrate some files from it.

I have read that its possible to reset the the activation grace period a few times using "slmgr -rearm", however since im already locked out at login i cant access the cmd shell directly.

I was planning on running a .bat/.cmd script to do it for me at startup using autoexec but it seems that vista doesnt use this anymore.

Anyone know of a good way around this problem? I.E execute a bat/cmd script and rearm an expired Vista account so i can shift some files and settings to my new installation?

Id rather not loose the data if possible and its unfortunatley tied to the user account.

I see its possible to access CMD in reduced functionality mode. At least i can rescue my crap now

Looking to rearm our lab images after imaging. The more I look the more im convinced theres no slmgr rearm limit for our windows 7 pro kms license.
It would be nice to just script the slmgr  -rearm  and then -ato after the imaging but didnt want it accidentally running on the imaging machine reducting my count.
Can anyone confirm you are allowed unlimited slmgr -rearm with a professional kms license?
Thanks!

Well the answer to the first question is just type "winver" w/o the quotes into the start>search bar and hit enter and wait and a box will pop up with the info you want.

I believe, but am not 100% certain, that you can rearm after 30 days have passed. I'm sure someone else will respond more authoritatively to that one.

15GB is way too small for a Windows 7 system partition. Before you go any further with your setup, start over and create a much larger system partition. I wouldn't go any smaller than 40GB.

Hello, I am writing this for my son's computer; all logs and emails are from his computer.

Sept 5, 2009- My son went to a questionable web site and suddenly a sexually orientated pop-up appeared. As I understand it he tried to close it right away but it seems only to have achieved in downloading the rogue malware Windows Safety Center. Of course it came up with an infection warning and in his haste (because we JUST got rid of another one of these) he clicked on a few of the icons and I assume made it worse. Then the computer restarted which as I understand (perhaps incorrectly) just relaunches the trojan and makes it worse. So we followed this course:

--- Ran McAfee full scan. Only found 1 or 2 items, which were removed.
--- Ran MalwareBytes anti-malware (after update) full scan. Nothing found so restarted the computer.
--- Ran MalwareBytes anti-malware quick scan. About 8 items found; had to restart for full removal so did so.
--- Ran MalwareBytes anti-malware full scan AGAIN. 1 or 2 items found but no restart needed.

--- Emptied temporary internet files
--- Through McAfee and Windows itself, upgraded parental options & made them much stronger. Now McAfee will not completely come up. On this issue, I am wondering if this is because we use FireFox as a browser and have Comcast Internet service from whom we get the McAfee. Just a week or so ago when I spoke to someone at Comcast on a completely different issue they told me that Comcast was Internet Explorer based.

A:How to know the time remaining before Windows turns into hibernation?

Hello lucekius and welcome to Seven Forums.

I guess you're looking for some kind of countdown timer that would show how much time remains before hibernation. I think you'd have to look for some third party tools because I don't believe Windows 7 has that kind of countdown timer.

I ran all of the utilities and Malware Bytes per the instructions @ Bleepingcompter.com. It appears the virus is gone but it has left at least a couple of serious issues. I did run the unhide utility but my desktop is still empty. Everything is in its correct folder location it just doesn't show up on the desktop. Also, my "System Tools" shows empty. I can run system restore from its system32 folder location but all attempts to return to a previous set point fail. This is one nasty virus. Any suggestions would be appreciated.I would like to add one more question to this topic. I had the latest updates of Avast and Adaware running when this attack occurred and neither even hiccupped. Is there an antivirus or antimalware program that would have stopped it?Mod Edit: Moved from Malware Removal Logs to Am I Infected, no logs ~ Hamluis.

I may have fixed my problem or at least part of it. I read elsewhere that I should run the rkill then Malwarebytes over and over. Maybe that was also mentioned here and I missed it. I did run them 3 times and I figured that was enough but it looks like the 4th time was the charm. Suddenly the desktop appeared but still no System Tools.
On edit: I just downloaded and ran AccRestore v2.0 from http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Accessories.htm It worked!!! Yippee.

A:Windows XP Home repair install hangs at 35 minutes remaining

Ive seen some cases where Windows Setup would hang if more than 256MB memory was installed - but thats a bit far fetched.

What you could try is moving all the files in C:\Windows\INF to a temp folder such as C:\tempinf, then run setup again.

ps. you dont need to format the drive, simply delete C:\Windows and C:\ProgramFiles so windows start fresh.

So I have an ASUS X5DIJ Laptop, I have MS Office Pro Plus 2010 on there and I might be downgrading from Windows 7 64bit to 32bit. I have already activated MS Office at once. However, if I downgrade and reactivate, would it count as a second activation or would it keep the activation count as 1 activation?

Reply soon,
Adiman423

A:Would downgrading from 64 bit windows 7 to 32 bit count as a separate activation of M

If the installation is different, it would be a second activation. Generally you can get away with 3 activation attempts on Office before it fails and you have to call though.

Any reason why you'd switch from Win7 64 to 32bit?

I attempted to do SFC /SCANNOW and it reports no integrity violations.

I've previously posted for help under "Performance & Maintenance". I thought it would be more appropriate to ask for help here.

I believe I've a corrupt file system/registry. The windows explorer hangs a lot. I've a hard time accessing files on the hard drive. Ran Malwarebytes, NOD32 online scanner. It's all clean. SFC doesn't run.

So, I've run SFCfix.exe & attached the most recent version of SFCfix.txt & CBS.zip.

I've attempted some repairs by running Windows Update Readiness tool, looking at CHECKSUR.log, by downloading the individual updates mentioned in the log, placing them in C:\windows\temp\checksur\packages folder, and running WURT again & the summary of checksur.log reads.

Hi :)

So I originally had Windows Media Player 10 installed, and then I upgraded to Media Player 11 for a few months. After a while, I decided I didn't like it, so I rolled back to Media Player 10, but all my play count data has been reverted to back before I installed Media Player 11.

I would like to know if there was a way I could restore that play count data if at all possible. It's not a big problem, I know, but it's a problem nonetheless and I would like it fixed.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi tech pros :)

My computer has many problems due to viruses and malware which I previously got. I used spyware doctor, avast, malwarebytes, super-antispyware, ad-aware and most recently advanced system care to check for viruses and they deleted alot. Now they can't seem to find anymore, but I'm worried there is still a virus.

Also, even if there is not a virus, my computer isn't working properly - I can't access the internet at all. Whenever I try connect to a wireless router or even a cable router, it will say "DNS server isn't responding" when I troubleshoot. Unless I manually set IP address, it will come up as "unidentified network - no internet access."

I've tried the networking forum and they told me to come here.

My system restore isn't even working anymore (it says windows has detected file system corruption on BOOT C:) and 'windows security center service' is turned off and I can't turn it on - it says it can't be started whenever I try to turn it on. There are probably a lot more other problems too. Please help me out here.

I've attached the DDS, Attach and ark.txt - note I couldn't compress them due to some issues with my PC - it automatically uses winrar.

Thanks alot!

Okay, so a couple days ago, my laptop started acting weird.
I ran a couple of scans and found nothing, but then I ran it again, and avast! found a "rootkit" and asked me if I wanted to delete it.
After doing so, it said that it's recommended that I do a boot-scan, and I did.
After supposedly getting rid of the rootkit, my malwarebytes wouldn't work anymore, so I looked up on how to fix it.
I reinstalled it and ran it, but found no viruses, even though I was expecting a few.
So now I'm still very paranoid that the rootkit did not get removed and that it is still hiding somewhere.

I'm also not much of a computer person so when I looked it up, some people said to try a system restore, but not knowing what that is and not sure on how to do it, I decided to ask for help here first or look around for some rootkit scans.
I came across Rootrepeal, but it says to not run it unless I was asked to, so I didn't.

I'm wondering is my laptop really clean or is the rootkit still secretly hiding somewhere?
