T430s Sleep fn key

Q: T430s Sleep fn key

Hi all!A new issue has been irritating me for a past few days. My ThinkPad T430s doesn't go to sleep when press fn + F4. Rather, the screen just blacks out but wakes up again to where it was left when I move the mouse. Even clicking Sleep through Start Menu does the same. Any solutions please?!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought new original battery (44mWh) and i had 2 used batteries.  Hi everyone, I currently own a T430S, and just recently the FN button on my laptop started to malfunction. It would work sometimes work but most of the times it doesn't register at all(refer to the video). Also I encountered another problem which is my laptop will wake up right away after put into sleep mode. This happens either when I put it into sleep mode or when I close my laptop(please also refer to the video). I have tried to reset my BIOS, tried unplugging my keyboard, but still no luck. Is there a way to fix this issue? This issue really has been bugging me for the past few days. I would appreciate any kind of support! Thank you!

I have the opportunity to buy a T430s with i5 3320M or a G50-80 with i5(i think gen 4).The RAM and Harddrive i will change so that is no issue. What do you think between this two?The T430s feels like higher quality.

Hi Nordic74,Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.As I understand that you have query regarding which to buy G50-80 or T430s
Even mine preference will be T430s as it is a business class segment with better battery backup, screen resolution & lot other options. In G50-80 there is an option of AMD discrete Graphics and 15.6" screen but resolution is 1366 x 768 only.
T430s has security option aswell & lot of option for upgrade which is missing in G50-80 IMO.

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Hi,

I left my laptop sitting open and running for a few seconds while I ran outside for something and I came back and the screen was black. It wasn't asleep, it was just black and still running. I restarted and it won't do a normal boot. When you first turn it on the "Press Enter to Interrupt Normal Startup" screen will come up, and if you do so or not, it'll take you to a menu with all of these options. I have no idea what's going on, can someone please help. It's a ThinkPad T430s

I hope this isn't a dupe thread.  I tried searching and couldn't find the info. I just purchased a used T430s that came with Windows 8, but at some point along the way someone installed Windows 10.  The first thing I want to do is make sure that this is a legit/verified Windows 10, and secondly how do I download drivers from Lenovo for Windows 10.   When I go to the product page, it doesn't give me the option for Windows 10.  It shows Vista through 8, but not 10. Any help is greatly appreciated. GBA

Hi.

I just got a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s refurbished for about $350 as good as new with activated Windows 10 Pro and 8GB RAM (which Im going to upgrade to 16GB). At home I usually use my Lenovo H50-55 Desktop displayed on my 47" Panasonic 3D TV, and I want to have the same option with my ThinkPad just in case my Desktop should be down for any odd reason. But the VGA only output on the T430s doesnt transelate to HDMI digital just through a cable Ive bought. No signal on the TV. Ive read a little bit about VGA to HDMI conversions and ususally the people having issues with this have a transformer between the two and still they get no signal. Do I need a transformer, and if so; what kind, or is it just to do with lack of right driver?

Hello, I have replaced screen on my T430s (used from T420s, because they are similar), before fully assembling (all the bottom screws), I tried to boot on battery and everything worked fine. After I finished assembling it, I couldn?t start my computer on battery, only with AC adapter. Battery is genuine (Panasonic came with T430s), I can charge or discharge it, tried battery gauge reset, tried to reset bios (take out CMOS battery), updated BIOS, nothing helps, by the way works with my T420s just fine (tried T420s battery on T430s same, nothing). Removing AC adapter causes laptop to shut off immediately.Am I missing something or it is a fault in mainboard?   Thanks in advance for any suggestions

A:T430s - Won't Start

It is hard to be sure without seeing it, but I think it is most likely the main (7-amp??) fuse by the battery connector, which is similar to the fuse for AC input.  The main battery fuse is separate from the smaller charging fuse.

Hello - I'm hoping this is an easy question to answer?  First of all, should a Lenovo T430s recognize it's location?  In other words, for instance, for Google Maps, etc., should the location where it's at be recognized?  If so, that feature is not working on a T430s that I have.  Assuming that it's supposed to work, I'm thinking that the problem is that the hard drive was imaged; i.e., it's does not have the original Lenovo drivers, etc., on it.  Any help/insight woud be appreciated.  Thank you!

I have confirmed with two different Lenovo technical support reps that the mSATA port in the T430s is SATA III, although I am concerned that they don't know what they're talking about. The QM77 chipset only supports two SATAIII connections, which means either the Ultrabay is only SATA-II (unlikely), or they've included a third party controller to provide the SATAIII speeds to the mSATA port (also unlikely). Cany anyone confirm whether or not the T430s mSATA port is SATAII or III?

A:T430s mSATA speed?

It's a direct connection to the PCI-E bus. The mSATA probably has a built-in controller.

I Have a T430s bought directly from Lenovo, used recovered discs to restore, found Win Activation key from BIOS, upon trying to activate Win 8, it says the key is invalid. I've read the other (many!) threads on this issue. How can I activate my restored computer's version of Win 8??

A:T430s: How to get my windows 8 license key

Hello,

I think it has been about six years since Lenovo sold the T430s, which I think came with options to have either Windows 7 or Windows 8 pre-loaded onto it.  Are you certain the recovery discs are the correct ones for this ThinkPad's OEM Windows Product ID license key?

You can try downloading Microsoft Windows 7 and 8.1 directly from Microsoft's support web site and seeing if either of those will work with the PID key:

Windows 7: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7
Windows 8.1: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO

If neither of those work, I would suggest calling Lenovo Support directly at +1 (800) 426-7378 (toll-free within the United States) and they may be able to determine which version of Windows is licensed for the computer by looking up its model and serial numbers.

How do i install the preloaded applications using the recovery media ( I ordered from Lenovo) without having to reiinstall windows all over agian? Also  Shoudl I decide to reinstall the whole PC by mesns of the recovery Media, will windows be automatically activated or do I need a separate windows 7 product key. I kmow the recovery media is a Oem build but it came without any Windows Product/activaion key. Thanks for your reply. MAH11

A:recovery media T430s

Welcome to the forum.

Recovery media restores your ThinkPad's HDD to the state it was in when it left the factory. It will install a fresh copy of Win7 Pro plus all the ThinkVantage programs and other preloaded applications that were shipped in those days. It will, of course, overwrite any applications you installed and any data you created.

Note that the Win7, drivers and apps on the restore media will now be several years old. You will have to run Windows Update and Lenovo System Update to get all the updates that were issued since. However, your Win7 Pro license will be preserved without having to activate again.

P.S. if you upgraded to Win10 you should be able to do that again without having to re-activate.

Dear All,I have a nearly 5-year old T430s which suddenly shows the following problems:Occasionally it starts to get slower and slower. Mouse moves jerky, YouTube video plays jerky. It is as if the laptop freezes for a fraction of a second every second or so. This freezing is very regular. In YouTube, even the sound is distorted (a bit like white noise) during the freezing. After 10 or 20 seconds, the computer freezes completely. If I briefly press the power button, a blue screen comes up indicating a hardware error. When I restart, typically everything is fine again (occasionally it takes more than one restart). It started a couple of days ago. I haven't changed anything related to hardware and didn't install any software. Edit: When I run the hardware scan/test from the Lenovo Solution Centre, no issues are shown. I did run the test from the Bios as well. Here it  only showed a Random Seek Fail for the HDD which was installed in the Bay Drive (just data storage). The drive is removed now (DVD drive instead) and I initially thought the problem is solved. However, it just crashed again... Is this definitively a hardware problem, or could it be software as well? (I have an older image at work which I could play back). Luckily, all data are backed up. Best wishes,Andre

A:T430s: Hardware problem?

I think it's more likely to be software.  Start task manager and see if something is using a lot of CPU or disk.  If hardware, a failing disk is possible.  It's good you have a backup.  Download CrystalDiskInfo (freeware) and see what it thinks of the disk.

I just acquired a Seiki 39" 4k resolution monitor (SE39UY04). Intel 4000 graphics support 4k resolution. Displayport 1.4 (as equipped on the T430s) supports 4k (at 30 hz). I have approved displayport to hdmi converter, and a 4k enabled hdmi cable that came with the screen. I cannot figure out how to enable 4k resolution. I even tried forcing it in the Intel driver app, but I'm told the settings exceed available bandwidth. I set refresh all the way to 24 (the lowest valid number). Color depth is fixed at 32 bit - cutting that in half would certainly help, but I can't seem to change that (32bit is the only option in the drop down). Any suggestions for getting 3840 x 2160 @ 30 hz? I don't need more than 16bit color depth if that helps.  My target is business applications, no games or 3D. Just big spreadsheets and lots of multitasking. Thanks!

Hi guys I've been having myself the T430S for a while now. I'm truly in love with the machine and have been modding it left and right.I use it daily for university and have in total three batteries and a multibay battery. Always on remote, pretty much. THE QUESTION:I'm looking to get myself a compatible docking station so that I don't always have to unplug all the cables when I leave the house the next day. However, I've been googling and googling, without success. Is there no docking station available for this series? I'm not to keen on the external 'dockings' as I don't really need them for multimonitor setup. The main reason of getting a docking would be the charging funcitonality and not having to go through the hassle of unplugging cables every single day. Windows 10 build 1803 will not take ownership of the TPM no matter what I try.  If I try to clear it using the tpm.msc console, the device reboots but I am not presented with the screen asking if I want to clear the TPM.  Instead it reboots back into Windows.  If I do it manually, Windows still reports that the TPM is running with reduced functionality. Windows 7 is able to take ownership of it just fine, however.  Nothing with the device has changed - no new hardware and troubleshoot tests return perfect results.  The TPM is recognized via PowerShell, too.  I have tried to initialize it through Windows, I have turned it off, disabled it, manually cleared it, reset the BIOS settings back to default, etc. to no avail. Secure Boot is enabled and running, but I'd like to use the TPM in conjuntion with my encrypted SSD that I've used for about a year now without any issues until this past few weeks.

I have a T430 that will not boot when the battery is in the laptop.  I thought this was a battery issue so I bought a replacement from Amazon and the problem went away for about 3 months.  Now the issue is back so I ended up buying a new battery directly from Lenovo just to make sure I was getting a good battery.  Last night I put the brand new battery in the laptop and again it will not boot with the battery in. To be clear.  The laptop works fine when it is either docked or plugged in with the battery not installed.  The problem is only when the battery is in the laptop.  It blinks once and then shuts right back down.  I know the battery is good since I bought the brand new one directly from Lenovo.   Any suggestions?

Hi, I encounter the following issues with my Thinkpad T430s:- sometimes the mouse pointer starts moving on its on, always towards the same direction and always at the same speed. Rebooting temporarily resolves the issue until it occurs again. Reducing the sensitivity in the driver software does not have any impact. Pressing the trackpoint and letting go does nothing to stop it. - the left mouse button acts like a weird combination of a left click + some function that brings up context menus, if available (e.g. on desktop). This happens using the trackpoint, touchpad and sometimes even when using an external mouse. - Right mouse button does not function at all. No matter what function is assigned to it in the driver software, it does not work. External mouse works. All this ONLY happens if the trackpoint is ENABLED in BIOS. If I disabled the trackpoint in the BIOS, touchpad and all mouse buttons work fine. I tried Windows 10 and Windows 7. The problems occur under both operating systems using different driver software. Therefore, I do believe this to be a hardware issue. Anyone has experienced this issues and knows a good way to fix it? Thanks in advance!

I cannot be sure without seeing it, but my guess is that you need a keyboard
