Recycle Bin generic icon in Delete Dialog Box

Q: Recycle Bin generic icon in Delete Dialog Box

Hi.I'm new here and this is my first post,so i hope it will be ok.
When i'm deleting files, folders, etc,i have a generic recycle bin icon in delete dialog box (picture 1),but when deleting program shortcuts, the icon looks normal like it should (picture 2)...
Why is that and is there any way to fix it? Thanks

Preferred Solution: Recycle Bin generic icon in Delete Dialog Box

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently noticed that something strange had happened to my delete file dialog box - the recycle bin icon had been replaced... I've attached a picture of it. My first thought was that the icon file had been deleted, but no other icons are missing, and the recycle bin on my desktop still looks fine - I tried resetting the icon cache to no avail. This isn't really a problem per se, it just piqued my interest. It started right after installing SP1, but rolling back didn't change anything. Anybody have a clue why this happened, or maybe even know how to fix it?

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Hi, I'm new here, so please forgive me, if I'm asking something dumb, but I have the following question:

In the popup message about really wanting to delete all the items when emptying the Recycle Bin I'd like to change the text of the two buttons from 'Yes' and 'No' to 'Yep' and 'Nah'.

I've never done something like this before, so if anything I say is wrong or not the right way to do things, please tell me. That said, I've come to the conclusion that I need to edit the right .dll or .mui file with resource hacker to make these changes. In the shell32.dll.mui file I found quite a few strings that deal with the question about deleting the files, but I've yet to see the yes and no for the buttons.

Am I just blind? If not, where can I find the strings for the buttons? Is it even possible to do what I want?
If it is impossible to change the buttons for the Rcycle Bin message alone, I'd also be fine with every yes and no button in my Windows being replaced with whatever I might edit in the files.

Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I had a problem deleting an older version of Firefox. The Firefox Setup .exe file was stuck in the Recycle Bin, it wouldn't delete and it wouldn't restore. Believing that the Recycle Bin was corrupt, I used this method from the DOS prompt:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

I refreshed my Desktop and when I clicked on the Recycle Bin. While the file appeared to be missing, the Recycle Bin would not load properly so I restarted my computer.

Now when I click on the Recycle Bin icon, it points to my entire computer (exactly the same as clicking on "Computer" off the Start Menu) instead of the Recycle Bin folder.

How can I restore the Recycle Bin icon so that it shows only the contents of the Recycle Bin?

My gratitude to any and all who can help me.

I have an Acer Win XP Pro that had several rogue antivirus infections that I removed in May. I have a gut feeling I still have something I couldn't get to. I say that because I have no symptoms except for an occasional browser closing unexpectedly. I also found some remnants of infection left behind within the registry but the files they point to no longer exist.

I have never been able to get a GMER log. After dozens of trys I can get as far as files being searched and the computer restarts.

On my own today I found RKUnhookerLE and downloaded it but when I checked the MD5 hash on the file it did not match. So I did a search on BC and found that others were downloading RKUnhookerLE from the same location and it was giving them a report. I downloaded and ran it but it loads in the background and no dialog appears. It runs using 50% CPU until I restart the machine.

MBAM and SAS both report nothing.

I'm running AVG and Threatfire.

On restart AVG does not have a tray icon after running RKUnhookerLE.

When I started RKUnhookerLE the last time I forgot to Suspend Threatfire and it warned me about RKUnhookerLE running as a service.

Am I just being paranoid, or do I still have something to worry about?

Before performing a Anti rootkit scan it is recommended to do the following to ensure more accurate results and avoid common issues that may cause false detections.Disconnect from the Internet or physically unplug you Internet cable connection.Close all open programs, scheduling/updating tasks and background processes that might activate during the scan including the screensaver. Temporarily disable your anti-virus and real-time anti-spyware protection. After starting the scan, do not use the computer until the scan has completed. When finished, re-enable your anti-virus/anti-malware (or reboot) and then you can reconnect to the Internet.

heh, this is kind of a trippy one. Why do you think the recycle bin icon on my desktop magically turned into the MSN butterfly right before my eyes? lol. It happened once before but only for a second then changed right back to the trashcan. This time it stayed the butterfly. No big deal I can change it back, I hope. But I was just curious how that could happen. I'm thinkin' I have some registry issues anyway because a while back I also lost my run and search option, it just tells me search failed to initialize. I still haven't been able to figure that one out, I tried everything outside of going back to factory settings. Oh well be good everyone and talk to you soon.

Some time back I had some RECYCLE BIN grief when two corrupt files decided never to go away. I've learned to live with it.

During that same time another strange occurence was secondary - my recycle bin icon never changed. It always stayed full. I attributed it to those two files and since I liked seeing an empty bin icon I went into the registry under:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} under default icon and change them all to the empty icon.

And so slept sleeping beauty - until last week when a glitch cause my xpPC to take a dive. And when it came back, the recycle bin icon is now a folder icon with ...like a .... networking picture on it. I check the registry in this location and found that the default icon settings are still intact.

So something else somewhere is causing it to display this new incorrect icon. Probably yet another anomaly that can't be fixed, but if someone has a clue ... I'm all ears !!!

- Castleheart

UPDATE: OK... a voice in my head (one of them) told me to try a theme to see if it changed. It did. So then i changed it back to my default which I save long ago and the EMPTY TRASH CAN returned. So far so good. But that means that my PC is setting the decktop recycle bin icon according to a theme somewhere and not the REGISTRY KEY which is default. Any one know where that information is stored so that I can see it and perhaps change it? Penny for your thoughts!

This problem started just last night, I was working on changing the three audio jacks into 5.1 surround outputs. After I was done, anytime I clicked on the normal volume icon, either right or left click, it pops up the "Line In Properties" dialog.

On left click, it also shows the normal volume adjuster, but hides it after about 2 secs, preventing me from sliding to adjust volume. I am also inhibited from opening the Playback Devices, Recording Devices, and Sound options that show up with a right click of the icon.

As it is extremely frustrating to have to navigate through the Control panel every time I want to change sound levels, I am hoping someone can help. Thanks in advance!

A:Line In Dialog when Tray Volume Icon is Clicked

Well, a little more changing of sound options shows that if I change my mic input (which the L/R Surround channel in 5.1) back into the Line In designation, the pop up problem is gone. I guess since I don't use 5.1 often, this is an ok fix, but if someone can fix it completely I would be much obliged.

I have since added an old IDE drive to my W7 PC. When I right-click a file to delete it, on the right-click context popup menu, there is a little blue/yellow shield next to delete and rename. This shield is NOT present on the SATA W7 drive.

So, I read and find that if you right-click Recycling Bin, there's an option to prompt the delete confirmation dialog. It was already checked. But, the Bin had stuff in it so I emptied it.

Now when I right-click on the IDE drive, it still has the little blue/yellow but at least I get the delete confirmation prompt.

This is likely the first time I've delete something from the IDE drive AND emptied the Recycling bin.\

I assume the shield has something to dow with security/permissions for the drive itself. What might I check or modify? Or, just leave the IDE drive as with the shield?

A:right-click, delete, does NOT cause confirmation dialog box

Seems this is permissions-related.

On my Win7 C and D hard drive partitions (normal "delete confirmation popup" as desired), right-click on drive, properties, then Security tab, it shows as group/user names:

Authenticated Users

Click on ADVANCED and OWNER tab shows TrustedInstaller owns the C and SYSTEM owns D Win7 partitions.

The old transplanted (IDE) XP hard drive shows for group/user names:

Advanced -> Owner shows Administrator as owner.

Should I make the XP E and F partitions the same as the C and D?
