Do I need an NVIDIA graphics card?

Q: Do I need an NVIDIA graphics card?

Hello,

I'm going to keep this question pretty general (non-spec-oriented) and see if it works, forgive me if I don't provide enough information.

I'm planning to purchase a new laptop and have a choice between a laptop that includes an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 card and one that does not include a graphics card. I don't know how to make this decision because I'm clueless about what graphics cards do.

Here is what I will use the laptop for: The most CPU intensive stuff will be Pro Tools 11 and other audio sequencing stuff, Photoshop and Illustrator and other graphics programs, and Camtasia. I have Premier Pro and AfterEffects video processing applications but I don't use them and I think the likelihood that I will become a power user is very low.

I am not a gamer at all.

Based on that, do I need the NVIDIA graphics card?

Again, my apologies if I'm not providing enough background to enable an accurate answer. I'm happy to follow up with more.

Thank you,
Tim

Preferred Solution: Do I need an NVIDIA graphics card?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi for the last 4 months ive been trying to fix a problem that ive been having with my computer.
about 4 months ago I did a major pc upgrade where i replaced my motherboard, processor, ram, heat sink, power supply and case, the only things I used from the original computer where 2 HDD's, 1 SDD and my AMD radeon HD 6950 2gb.

Now ive have the most strange issue where i can be watching a video off the HDD or surfing the web on youtube etc and not long after I start the activity my computer will turn off like if I had flicked the switch on the back of the power supply and then it boots back up again and will run fine until i start up an activity again and then it does exactly the same thing and reboots, there is no BSOD shown nor Dumps Created.

Ive tried many things to sort this out and have RMA'ed the power supply and the motherboard (the motherboard wasn't a direct replacement as they didn't sell my original board anymore which was a gigabyte ga-x79-ud5, now i have an asus p9x79 deluxe). I have tried only plugging in one HDD/SSD and then tried a spare HDD when that failed, i have tried one ram stick at a time and still nothing.

now heres where it gets strange whilst trying to rule out differnt hardware i switched my AMD card out for a very old 512mb, pcie 1.0 x16 nvidia graphics and since then my computer has been running marvelously i can have it playing videos for hours, days even(although i havent properly tested for days) and not a single problem at all.

The comparison you are making between GPU brands is pointless as a diagnostic. The MAIN difference I can see is that one card requires external power, and the other one does not. A proper diagnostic would be to test another GPU that requires external power.

I've heard that the specific PSU you bought will sometimes not power all the hardware it is supposed so.
People saying it could barely power a SSD, or even an extra fan.

My thoughts. Try using another PSU, try using a similar GPU. Use your old PSU and see if it still happens for starters.

Hello, and thank you for checking out my post.  My apologies for writing a book, but I'm hoping to give as much detail as needed the first go round. I just received my custom-built T420s (4170-CTO) and have a couple technical questions/concerns about it.  The details of my configuration are located at the bottom of this post. First off, one of the deciding factors of my purchase was the discrete graphics card.  On the T420s I chose NVIDIA NVS 4200M Optimus Graphics 1GB, Intel Core i7-2620M Processor?.  I was thrilled to have more than 256 MB of dedicated graphics memory for my games.  Upon receiving my laptop, though, I ran the Windows Experience Index and saw that the lowest score was the graphics card, which is identified as Intel HD Graphics Family and has 64 MB of dedicated graphics memory.  After my heart started beating again I checked Device Manager and found under Display both Intel HD Graphics Family and NVIDIA NVS 4200M listed as working with up-to-date drivers.  When I configured the laptop online there was no mention of hybrid graphics, so I'm not sure why I have an Intel Graphics card on the machine.  My current laptop that I was looking to replace is a T61p with a NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M graphics card, and only that NVIDIA card is shown under Device Manager and in the Windows Experience / Performance Information.  Thinking that perhaps disabling the Intel card would cause the NVIDIA card to take over, I disa... A:T420s Nvidia Graphics Card & Express Card Question...

The T420s with Nvidia GPU has two graphics card that can switch on the fly, if you only want the discrete gpu, just go into your bios menu under graphics there is an option to select discrete. With the Nvidia Optimus (which is what you have), it can switch between Nvidia and Intel GPU depending on your application needs. This will allow you to conserve battery or power. Expresscard slot 34 mm slot is occupied by the card reader that you ordered. I am planning to get a new graphics card for new games such as Doom 3 and Halflife 2.

I have always had nvidia cards, but I hear that the new ati cards are also great.

Can anyone tell me which card is better and why?

What features does one have that the other doesn't?

I was thinking of either a Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb, or a GeForceFX 5900TD 128Mb.

Hi, I just bought a new nvidia graphics card. it was a 9400 GT.. geforce.. I wanted to install it but I had a few problems..

1. it needed an extra power source comming from the power box to power the card..
2. computer startup (not windows but right when I press the power button)
3. un reconization...

details:

1. The graphics card that I bought came with a supplemental power cord that I had to connect to the computer the cord has to directly connect to the power box... I can't connect directly to the powerbox.. I found 2 female connectors from the power box they are all 4 whole large connectors and the one from my graphics card is only 2 hole small FEMALE connection (if you haven't caught on, female and female connectors don't connect....)so is there anyway of connecting the powerbox to the graphics card because I'm guessing it should be that missing connection that causes stress on the mother board which = slow boot (the computer powers on when I press the on button but makes that sound (like it's going up and down on a rollercoaster if you don't get what I mean then it's like ........vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv(oh loses power again)....vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv( again?)

Is there anything that I need to do in order to make the switch easy do I have to uninstall drivers before I install the new card or what?

A:Going from ATI to Nvidia graphics card

Yes, I would suggest that you uninstall ATI drivers & Catalyst Control Center(and anything to do with ATI) prior to installing the new card. After that it's an easy switch, install the graphics card, the latest Nvidia drivers, sofware & utilities, and you're good to go.

Hi,

I read on another forum site that a Nvidia Geforce GT630 with 1GB dedicated memory is better than a Nvidia Geforce GT620 with 2GB dedicated memory. Is this true, surely more memory would be a bigger advantage than the slight speed difference between models?

Thanks,
Tom

A:Better Nvidia Graphics card

Usually higher models would perform better than their predecessors but there can be positives and negatives with both.

For example:
ZOTAC GeForce GT 620 2GB DDR3
Clock rate - 700 MHz
Shader Clock - 1400 MHz
Memory Clock - 1066 MHz
Memory Size - 2GB
Memory Interface - 64-bit
Memory Type - DDR3

ZOTAC GeForce GT 630 1GB DDR3
Core clock - 810 MHz
Shader Clock - 1620 MHz
Memory Clock - 1333 MHz
Memory Size - 1GB
Memory Interface - 128-bit
Memory Type - DDR3

1. 630 has higher Clock speeds
2. 630 has bigger Memory Interface
3. Size of memory won't have much impact unless you're using a high resolution or multiple monitors

You can not increase dedicated video memory, it is what it is. 512 MB

The system (motherboard) can share memory with the video card, my MSI shares 2 GB giving me a total of 4 GB of graphics memory.

Maybe save a little more money before you make a choice.

Sounds more like a driver issue. Have you uninstalled and installed the latest video driers for the card?

Latest driver can be found here: http://www.nvidia.com/page/drivers.html
Which appears to be done at this very moment.

You can try this site for the drivers: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1715

Make sure you use Add or Remove Programs to uninstall the current video drivers.

Well I seem to be only able to use the NT drivers I got with my card unfortunitly when I try and use the XP drivers when I bootup the PC and login to XP it hangs I have to restart and it still hangs which means probably im using the wrong drivers. So what im pritty much saying here is only the NT drivers work. But I dont get any options or nothing in the display properties it just lists the card memory used etc. So okay i can play Medal Of Honor / Return to castle Wolfestein etc probably half life any game that does not detect the card like the new ones like Grand Theft Auto 3 etc. Im annoyed at this i was looking forward to playing Battelfield 1942. Looks like im stuck with what games i got. But why cant it play MOD3 etc which requires a 16mb card and GTA3 dont ? Because it's not proparly installed ? And why does the card hang using the XP drivers or Win2k drivers. its a 64mb Geforce 4 ? And why dont Nvidia offer support ? None at all ...

A:Nvidia Graphics card

Nvidia only supplies chipsets. Since they don't build the graphics cards, they don't support them.

I would check with the manufacturer of your video card and try the drivers from them. Usually the manufacturers tweak the drivers a little specifically for their cards.

I really don't know where I can put this thread, so I put it here. Recently, my fan has been making a sporadic humming sound. It isn't screaming or making any loud noises, just a low and deafening hum that isn't constant but happens in irregular intervals. The funny thing is, when I turn my PC on its side, the humming from the fan stops, so it can't possibly be that the bearings are shot in the fan, can they? Like the title states I have a BFG Nvidia 9500 GT Graphics Card, and the fan has been acting pretty strange lately. I recently cleaned dust out of it but I don't recall ever touching the graphics card and fan. It looks kind of dusty but nothing too serious. I honestly don't know what's going on but after messing around with it, I have noticed it only makes the sound when it is standing straight up, and not on its side. Any insight would help dearly.

A:BFG Nvidia 9500 GT Graphics Card Fan

I would check that the fan & heatsink is securely attached to the card (I am looking at a picture showing two snap-in parts where it attaches to the board). Make sure the fan isn't touching the card below it.

I have a Medion MD-1567 Pentium 4 that has SIS on board graphics. I put in a Nvidia AGP graphics card (GeForce 3 older gen) with a DVI connected widescreen Hanns-G monitor that is made for 1440x900 resolution. All works OK but I get a crazy flashing screen when I right click on any movie file that is set to view as a thumbnail, when the windows screen appears during start up, when windows desktop first comes up during start up, and also when I bring up the Nvidia control panel or display settings. This isn't the end of the world but I'd like to eliminate if possible. Does anyone think it might be related to drivers loaded for the Sis onboard graphics? I noticed there are Sis651 drivers loaded on the add and remove screen but I'm concerned they might also run the AGP port that the Nvidia driver is plugged into or perhaps control more than just on board graphics. If anyone thinks I could safely remove, please let me know. Also, any other ideas would be appreciated. I've gone as far as reloading windows cleanly, trying other Nvidia drivers but it hasn't eliminated my jumping screen.

I've been attempting to install a new driver for my 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 with TV Out (Dell). Over the past week I've completely uninstalled the current drivers and attempted to reinstall drivers that I have both downloaded (from Nvidia and other sites) as well as the automatic windows update drivers. I have made sure to turn off my antivirus software; I have disconnected from the Internet; I have used programs that claim to clean off abandoned parts of old drivers. Nothing has worked properly.

After 2 hours of support and a new BIOS on a phone call with Dell, they suggested reinstalling my operating system, which I am uninclined to do.

Currently, under Display Adapters in my Device manager, "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)" is listed, with a yellow exclamation point in front of it.

And finally, when I now go to install the video driver, I get the following message:
"There was a problem installing this hardware:
64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 with TV Out (Dell)
An error occurred during the installation of the device

I use Windows XP/SP2. All comments and help are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Check to ensure that Windows 10 did not update itself before this happened. You may be able to resolve the issue by using  Windows System Restore.  Choose a restore checkpoint dated before this began.  Windows System Restore is completely reversible and will not delete your data.

I had also purchased a 780w psu to ensure I had enough power for it. I also tried to disable to on board graphics and installed the drivers for the new card before I installed it into my system, so when nothing worked for me I traded the card in for another gtx260, but had all of the same problems...

Also forgot to mention that the card powers up, the fans are running, but it's just not being detected. I did clean the pci-e slot with some cleaning alchohol and a cotton swab, which didn't help at all, I thought maybe I did a no no by trying to clean it like that and so I put my gt 240 back in, but it worked just fine.

I got a new GPU from amazon for about 30$
So I got a ZOTAC NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 2GB PCIe x16 2.0
Put it in my computer and i immediately had problems
First problem
Computer wouldn't turn on.
Kept cycling on and off repeatedly... so I turned my computer off by unplugging it.
And this time I unplugged the hard drive to see if my computer would boot without it.

worked but i noticed the bios got completely reset. so i had to manually plug the hard drive back in while the computer was on and change the bios settings to enable hard drive controller1 and some other settings like virtualization and speedstep (now it boots up fine without cycling on and off or needing the hard drive unplugged? I guess the capacitors needed to be charged for the first time and they were never primed or tested?)

A restart and windows won't boot past windows startup logo (Forgot to disable integrated graphics driver)
so i boot into safe mode and uninstall it. let it install VGA drivers
Now ive got the driver installed from the nvidia website (without the 3D vision or HDMI audio drivers and other things i wont be using)

i installed PhysX though
but now I get random display driver crashes IF DWM/AERO is turned on (i made a seperate partition and never had any crashes on a windows XP 64-install

It crashes and successfully recovers.. Sometimes its when opening a game. right clicking my desktop to bring up context menu. or opening a new tab. pausing a youtube video. Playing a really long youtube video.

My problem is to do with the graphics card....as the card has TV out capability, my WinDVD will not display the visuals of the movie playing..get sound no picture!

All the literature I have read on the subject, indicates that there is a conflict with the Macrovision copyright software that is part of WinDVD and this particular nVidia model card - the Geforce family 2mx/mx400 with the TV Chip CHRONTEL 7008, (WinDVD detects the TV Out on the card and wont display the visual of the DVD playing) and suggest to get the latest driver that is supposed to have addressed the conflict - Forceware v77.72 (June 2005) which is supposed to fix the macrovision copyright protection issue, unfortunately it hasnt- or somehow disable the TV out function. I cant find anywhere in the nVidia interface that lets me do that!

I have got the TVTOOL program, I have uninstalled and reinstalled various versions of the nVidia drivers. I have even downloaded a trial version of the latest WinDVD, 3+ hours later same thing!! I tried other dvd players, I have DirectX9...... nothing has worked!

So I was wondering if anyone out there has had the same or similar issue, fixed it and could tell me! lol ....it is sooo frustrating!

Like it is reseting something everytime.(this is the same thing if i were to change the resolution where the monitor goes black for a min.

In games i used to be able to tab out to pop up IE explorer and search while i could watch my game still run, now the game runs but when i am tab out the games all freeze on 1 frame and i have to go back to the game in order to see any movement.

I did not have nay of these problems with my radeon but now it do..

any ideas?

After doing a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit because of a computer crash I had that involved the "display drivers have recovered" error or whatever I have re-installed all my drivers except video ones.

I have an m15x alienware laptop that originally had Vista 32-bit and I upgraded to 7 64-bit so I can't use my support disc to install the video drivers.

Then whenever I try downloading the drivers off nvidia or any other site I can't get windows to start up and have to restore because it either freezes at the Windows Starting Up screen or I get the BSOD.

My graphics card isn't showing up in device manager so I can't even search for updates.
Everything else is working perfectly except the graphic stuff and with a gaming laptop that I also use for design work it doesnt mean much to me unless I can fix what is wrong with it.
Help will be very appreciated.

Hello, i have brought dell inspiron 7567 two months before, today i was updating nvidia graphics card while updating, first it downloaded something then uninstalled nvidia and while installing new update it got some error, after that it got deleted, how to get it back. Please help me solve this. Thanks

A:Nvidia Graphics card update

Have you tried using the driver from Dell?
The Nvidia install may uninstall the prior driver during the process and then reboot and complete the install.  If you have no Nvidia driver the device will operate with the Basic Widows video driver and you can update the Video Adapter in Device Manager.

I recently made a new build with the follow:

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz quad core
Western Digital Caviar Green 500GB
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB)
MSI P67A-G45 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67
Win 7 Home Premium OEM sp1

Ok so you know what i got, and the MSI Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 graphics card drivers will not work with my system. I think that it is Win 7 cause if i install it in my old desktop it works like a dream and it is running Win XP SP3, and there is no problems at all and I just completed a duel boot with a second hard drive on above system and running xp on it as well and it works fine with it. Any ideas how to make it work? If need more info just post

A:MSI Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 graphics card

I assume you are using the Windows 7 driver and not the XP driver on it,

NVIDIA DRIVERS 280.26 WHQL

might be better to go with the one previous as I haven't been seeing much in the way of good reports on the latest,

NVIDIA DRIVERS 275.33 WHQL

Also is this an untouched windows disk, or has it been modified in some way?

What drivers are you trying?

If Acer has customized the device ID for the nVidia graphics device, you might best try Acer's drivers:

I am wondering if someone can point me in the right direction. I am running Windows 8 64-bit with an old Nvidia 8800GTX card. I have a new HD 7970 card. When I put the new card in, I can't get the OS to boot. It just says "Windows ecountered a problem" and will just do this over and over. I can't preinstall the ATI drivers before I put the card in. Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks.

A:Cannot change graphics card from Nvidia to AMD

You have to uninstall all the old NVIDIA stuff first. This includes the drivers and all software. Once you are sure you are clean, then change the cards and boot into win 8. Once there, you can install your new ATI drivers.

I'm in a crisis right now. My Nvidia crashes often in games and says it's a Nvidia crashing. I'm having the common Windows 10 error when you can't see the graphics driver in device manager. Also, I have NEVER had the graphics control panel so I can't change it from that. Another thing is that since I'm using an HP Laptop I cannot get into the advanced BIOS menu! I need help to get my Nvidia working.

Hey,

I think my newly bought NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS graphics card is faulty. Is there any signs or ways to test whether it is or not.

The reason I think it's faulty is because I had a pretty messed up PC about two weeks after installing it. I eventually had to reinstall the old card (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200) and do a full system recovery (reverting back to the factory setup). Without the 7600 everything seems to be working as it should.

Any ideas?

I just installed a NVIDIA graphics card, and I can't play vidoes with it as when I try the computer slows way down and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to close the program playing the video.

From researching on the internet it seems it is a common problem, and one way of getting around it is to disable the 3d acceleration. Does anyone know how to do this? I tried the method that NVIDIA suggest, but to be honest I don't understand it.
"To enable or disable 3D hardware acceleration

From the NVIDIA Control Panel Select a Category... home page, select 3D Settings

Click the View menu and then select Advanced

Manage 3D Settings to open the associated page.

The options on this “advanced” page enable you to change all the image and rendering settings of your 3D applications that utilize Direct3D and OpenGL technology.

Click the Global Settings tab.

Under Settings, click the setting corresponding to the Hardware acceleration feature and select one of these options:

Single-display performance mode: If you have only one active display, this is the default setting. You can also specify this setting if you have problems with the multi-display modes.

Note: This mode is faster than either of the multi-display modes described below.

Compatibility performance mode is available if you have two or more active displays when running in nView Dualview display mode or if you are using different classes of NVIDIA GPU-based graphics cards.

When this mode is in effect, OpenG... Read more

Hi,

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Everything was working fine and dandy until one day I turned off my computer. I have a dual monitor setup. One monitor was connected to the integrated graphics card on the motherboard, while the other monitor was connected to the Nvidia Geforce 8600GT.

When I turned the computer on the next day the monitor connected to the 8600GT stayed in a black screen. I discovered the Device Manager stopped detecting the graphics card altogether as well. However, when I hit the windows+ P button to extend and go into screen resolution it shows 2 monitors. However, the one connected to the 8600GT says "Another Display Not Detected" and the resolution is grayed out. When I move my mouse over, the mouse goes onto the other screen, even though it does not detect the graphics card and the monitor is black!

I have tried and searched EVERYTHING. I have found MANY other people with the same problem and no solution. I switched monitors to make sure they both worked. I have gone into the BIOS and switched it to load the PCI Express graphics card instead of the onboard g-card (there is no option to disable the onboard g-card in BIOS). I went into the Nvidia Management options to make sure it was set to allow dual displays. I have installed older drivers, tried compatibility with Vista, unplugged and replugged the graphics card.

Is there anyone out there who has actually solved this problem? Does anyone have ... Read more

By any chance did you install the NVIDIA beta drivers? If so they are broken for the 8600GT right now (been documented EVERYWHERE)

The only way to fix it is to system restore back before the driver was installed OR a reinstall of Windows

hi all, i have a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE graphics card, i bought it recently cuz my old one broke, i think somebody took it out and played around with it and basically damaged it but anyway i bought this new graphics card just a short while ago and it's working fine on my PC. The thing is sometimes when i play games there's a glitch, it's not the games problem because this problem happened to most of the games that i played and it didn't happen be4 on my previous graphics card so the glitch is not produced from the games. The glitch is produced from the graphics card, i can't exactly describe wat the glitch is but when i play the games and when the "GLITCH" happens, u can easily see that some parts of the objects are gone, e.g. there was this time when i was playing Need For Speed Underground and some parts of the car are gone, like a hole or something in it and basically u don't see the whole object or background, also sometimes there's this line that shouldn't be in the background or in the game, like u can see lines everywhere and it's just messed up basically, the colours are the same but just parts of the objects are missing and the whole background is screwed up. I've updated the drivers already and i tried taking out the graphics card and putting it back in the slot and it didnt work, this problem doesn't happen all the time but sometimes it does. Also sometimes when i play MMORPG games, i log out and log ... Read more

I have just installed Windows 7 x64, I install the newest NVIDIA driver and I begin to set it up, I get the error saying NVIDIA install cannot continue
This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

It does not show up in device manager, nor system information, what does show up though in both, is Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. I try uninstalling it, in safe mode, and it still appears.

I've tried pulling the card out and plugging it back in, like I just got the card.

Please help.

Try go to www.geforce.com website and under drivers go for automatic video card detection or something like that and choose your os. After that you'll have the latest graphic card driver for your card.
I have do this by myself with a nvidia geforce 9600 gt and it works.

Hi - this is my first time writing on this forums.
I've been spending hours and hours going through relative threads and so on.
However, I still don't have a clue - or may be it is just a dead end.

Here is the situation:
My girlfriend decided to upgrade her Chinese laptop "HASEE A460-i3 D2."
I've never seen this laptop or this company before, but I figured it would be easy to install SSD and 8GB RAM. Hardware installation was breeze, and the I installed Windows 7 64bit Ultimate Edition.
However, the problem came from installing graphic card driver.
I realized that the graphic card was not being recognized.

Based on the label on the laptop, it was suppsoe to have "nVidia GT325M."
So I tried downloading the driver from this nVidia website and got this:
This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

So I tried using Nvidia Auto detect program and got this:
The manufacturer of this system requires that you download the driver for your GPU from their support site.
The GeForce M series and GeForce Go series notebook GPUs use drivers that have been customized by the notebook manufacturers to support hot key functions, power management functions, lid close and suspend/resume behavior. NVIDIA has worked with some notebook manufacturers to provide notebook-specific driver updates, however, most notebook driver updates must come from the notebook manufacturer. Additionally, the desktop GeForce graphics drivers will not install on Geforce M s... Read more

ON my BFG graphics card there is an HDTV TV OUT port on it. It also came with an HDTV breakout cable. I have an Xbox 360 Elite and there are 2 sets of audio video cables. The RED,WHITE,YELLOW cable and the BLUE,GREEN,RED HD cable. The colours on the HDTV breakout cable match the colours on the XBOX's HD cables so i figured they mite work. Do any of you know if i will be able to connect my Xbox 360 to my flat screen monitor?

A:BFG nvidia 8500 GT graphics card

The Blue, Red and Green cables are component video cards, capable of carrying a HD signal. The Red and White of the other cable are for the left and right audio channels, and the Yellow is composite video, good for non HD signals.

If you are trying to use the cables to connect the computer or the XBOX to a TV or to a monitor that has component or composite connections on the back of it then they will work with either device.

But if you are trying to connect the XBOX through the computer to display on the monitor then that won't work. You'd need to have a video card or separate PCI card that supports TV input not just output.
