Thunderbolt 3 Docking station Ethernet not working

Q: Thunderbolt 3 Docking station Ethernet not working

I am connecting my X1 Extreme to Thunderbolt 3 Docking and find out the Ethernet is not working. By looking into network adapters in Control Panel, it shows the Ethernet of the docking station is disabled. However, whenever I try to enable it, it automatically goes back to disabled state. Any help?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a 5th gen Carbon connected to the Lenovo Thunderbolt docking station. After some time, perhaps a sleep or hibernation, the laptop loses ethernet connectivity and can only use wifi. ipconfig reports media disconnected. But if I do a restart of Windows 10, ethernet is back, no problems. Also if I use the ethernet dongle connected to the laptop's weird little ethernet port, there are no issues.  There are other issues with the dock, like intermittent loss of wireless keyboard and mouse connectivity, but I'll worry about those in another thread.

For a few days only ! After my laptop has been in sleep mode for a long time only. When waking from sleep mode ThinkPad USB-C Dock Ethernet has no network connection. I select 'troubleshoot problem', it then resets 'ThinkPad USB-C Dock Ethernet' and say that the problem has been fixed.  It says the 'default gateway was not available'. All my Bios, drivers and USB-C firmware are up to date! Do you have any idea ? I am struggling with my docking station for my ThinkPad 480s.  I have two docking stations.  One by Lenovo type 40AJ and the other by DELL.  The dual monitor DP setup resets every 3 to 5 minutes causing the monitors to go black with the Lenovo UltraDocking Station.  So I switched out that docking station with the DELL universal docking station.  When I use the USB C/Thunderbolt port the same thing happens.  When I use the USB 3 port, I have no problems.  I have looked in the event viewer and I can see where the laptop switches from external to battery power, but nothing else.  Also, I have updated the drivers for Thunderbolt. Has anyone seen and resolved this issue?

I recently received a ZBook 15 G3 with the ZBook dock. After installing Ubuntu 16.04 the dock didn't work at all, it only powered the laptop. I changed the BIOS security configuration for the Thunderbolt port (under Advanced, Ports) and was able to get an external disply working. However, the USB ports on the dock are still not working, the audio jack isn't working and the ethernet port isn't working. When connecting a cable to the ethernet port on the dock the laptop will show that it's connected but there still isn't any internet connection.I will appreciate any help as right now the dock is pretty much unusable.

I though may be it's possible just pluging power into notebook and connect docking station via Thunderbolt only but not sure if it will work and if docking station in fact needs external power which thunderbold cable will not be able to provide.

I have several Dell 5510 Precision series with the Thunderbolt USB-C adaptor. Each 5510 is plugged into a Dell K17A docking station powered by a Dell 130W power supply. When I connect the docking station via its USB-C connection to the 5510 laptop, I get a BIOS warning that it only sees 95W of the 130W. But the battery charges and the laptop runs. I can turn off the power warning in the BIOS (which is current) but I worry about powering the 5510's Nvidia video card and other components if the BIOS is not seeing all 130 watts.
Plugging in the 130W psu supplied with the laptop has no such BIOS error.
Why does the Dell docking station K17A not see the Dell power supply? Is it throttling it?

Hopefully someone here can help me before I get an aneurysm. I got the HP Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station (150 watts, model number P5Q54AA). Everything is connected ok but as soon as the dock connects to my laptop it crashes my computer instantly and generates the blue screen of death. It doesn't matter if a monitor is connected or not. There was a couple of scary moments when it sent my fans into overdrive and started beeping loudly as if a bomb was ready to explode. I spent more than eight hours on this yesterday and at this point the dock seems like nothing more than a nice looking brick. I have went through all of the help threads here and tried everything. I updated the bios from 1.14 to 1.15I updated all audio drivers, graphic drivers, firmware drivers, chipset drivers, and thunderbolt related driversI rolled back everything twice and reinstalled everythingI removed the security setting in the bios that relates to thunderbolt devices connectingI've made numerous other changes that didn't work and had to roll backNothing seems to work. I am puzzled as to why HP haven't set this up better. Surely there needs to be a dedicated app for this that handles everything and installs and removes all necessary drivers. By the looks of it this docking station has been a mess from the start. What else can I do at this point?

It is possible you have a defective dock. I have exactly the same setup and went through some difficulties when I first got it but turning off Thunderbolt security made mine work. It is still occasionally finicky coming out of sleep mode or if I disconnect the laptop and use it as a laptop then try to reconnect the dock. Takes a restart or 2 sometimes but mine generally works well.  I would suggest your problems point to a bad piece of hardware.

Community: we just recently purchased a brand new Thinkpad X1 Extreme laptop and Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock. The Laptop is awesome but unfortunately we're on our second dicking station and wondering what we're doing wrong--or if we have a defect.  The docking station came with a 230W and 65W AC power cord, and the dock has both a 230W/170W port and 135W/65W power port. When the 230W cord is plugged into the 230W port, the dock doesn't turn on (nothing plugged in). When the 65W cord is plugged into the 135W/65W port, it lights up but no network when a laptop is plugged in or charge. The only way I get a light on the station is to plug the 230W cord into the 135W/65W port, and then when a laptop is plugged in I get network and charge. We contacted Lenovo and they sent a replacement as they admitted it was not working as it should. The second one also exhibits the exact same behavior and we are at a loss and ready to return for a refund.  I also don't want to plug a 230W power brick into a 135W/65W port for fear of overheating. Anyone else experience this or have any ideas, we'd like to hear them.  Thanks.

I have just bought a Dell XPS 15 (9560) and a Dell WD15 docking station with 130W power brick (same wattage as the laptop's AC-adapter). When I only use the docking station to power the laptop the discrete graphics card (GTX 1050) does not seem to work. When I am in a game (eg. Starcraft 2), I get like 15 fps with the NVIDIA recommended settings. Then when I plug in the laptops's own power brick (while still in the game) I get an immediate four-fold increase in framerate. When I unplug the laptop's own power brick the framerate drops down to 15 fps again in a heartbeat. Furthermore, when I only power the laptop through the docking station, I cannot even find the discrete GPU in the list when I'm trying to run the Geekbench 4 compute benchmark (OpenCL). Only the integrated graphics shows up. When I plug in laptop's power brick I find GTX 1050 in the list.
I have run the Dell Command Update application and all my drivers and firmware are up to date.
Does anyone have any idea to what the problem could be?

I have a HP 6530b Laptop, and on-board Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet adapter.
When I remove my laptop from the docking station, I obviously lose Network connectivity, however, when I replace the laptop back (or even just plug in a cable directly), I cannot reconnect to the network until I reboot or go to device manager and scan for additional devices in the Network Devices section. Then the Broadcom Gigabit adapter shows up and the connection is automatically restored.

Why does my computer lose the adapter when i un-dock?

I have a setup with a home office and a work office in which I have a Dell SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Docking Station at each location.  Mysteriously about two to three weeks ago the Dell Gigabit Ethernet connection on BOTH docs just stopped working - it briefly connects, tries to identify the network and then shows no connection.
The laptop is an XPS 15 but to debug I also tried a Latitude E5470 - both laptops act the same way on both docks.  On the XPS 15 I updated all of the drivers from Dell and Intel.   TCP stack reset, adapters deleted and re-added, etc, etc.
When the Ethernet is connected directly to the latitude it works just fine at both locations.
I called Dell support and was told if the Ethernet works on the Latitude then I have to go back to the retailer where I bought the dock and ask them how to fix it because the dock and the laptop are out of support [I offered to pay but was told that the dock isn't covered regardless]... STUPIDEST TECH SUPPORT RESPONSE EVER (and I'm in tech support myself so I've heard it all) for multiple reasons as noted above - two docks and two laptops.
At roughly the same time the WiFi throughput on the XPS built-in adapter dropped to kbps speeds (well documented but no real solution - google "dell Wireless-N 7260 performance issues").
On the XPS I even upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 10 to see if a "fresh" OS would flush out any bad drivers, etc - no help, same issue.

A:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

Hello I've got an HP Folio 9470m together with the HP Ultraslim Docking Station (D9Y32AA#UUZ) featuring 2 DisplayPort connectors and a VGA connector. I would like to connect two digital screens to the docking station in extended mode. First I have tried to connect two screens with two DP to DVI adapters which didn't work. The screens have only been able to be used in clone mode (showing same screen content) but not in extended desktop mode. Then I thought this might be an issue of DP->DVI converters as the dock might not support this. So I bought 2 DP cables and tried multiple combinations:- 2x DP/DVI converter cable- 1x DP, 1x DP/DVI converter cable- 2x DP native Unfortunately none of the combinations worked in extended mode. The screen setup always falls back to clone mode. Intel Graphics setup menu also just shows selection between one external screen and "Monitor" (which is the laptop built-in screen). It actually works in extended mode only if I use 1 DP port and the VGA port on the docking station. So I can work in extended screen mode like this. But in year 2014 it's simply ridiculous having to connect FullHD+ screens via analog VGA. So I would like to know how to use these 2 DP connectors on the UltraSlim docking station. Even more strange I found that using the DisplayPort connector in conjunction with one of the DP connectors of the dock while docked it works in extended mode. So the laptop is able to handle it. Just the dock seems not to ... Read more

I can't seem to find the documentation I found on a forum but the intial batch of slim docking stations WILL NOT allow 2 dp at the same time.  It is due to the architecture of the of the laptop and the docking station.  In order for two dp at the same time, you  will need to buy the 2013 one.  (I will try to find the product number for you).  Their workaround was to use VGA and DP at the same time, which you have already figured out. Update: Looks like the page is not found, however, the title says it all. http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product.aspx?sku=10731964&pagemode=ca "Alert: Dual display limitations of 2013 HP UltraSlim Docking Station with HP EliteBook Folio 9470m N..." Update #2:  Found it attached.    Can't upload pdf files

A few months ago, after returning from a trip, I connected my Think Pad X1 Carbon to the docking station and my external monitor was not recognized. After some experimentation, I determined that the video ports were not working. I then connected the monitor directly to the laptop using a HDMI cable and all was well.Today, I noticed that my ethernet connection was not working. Again, after some trial and error I determined that it was not the cable, not the router, but again that the ethernet port on the docking station was not recognized. Shortly after that I noticed that my USB drives were not longer mounted and the laptop was no longer charging. I tested to be sure that the laptop charging port was operating correctly (it was). In short, the entire docking station has stopped working.I have updated drivers, updated firmware, restarted multiple times, tried just about every solution I can find online. Before I order a new docking station, is there anything else I can do to verify that the problem is in fact a failed docking station?

I'm experiencing an issue with my Dell D100 dock when using DraftSight.  I have two Dell E2414H monitors attached to my Dell D1000 dock, one plugged into the VGA Port and one into the Display port.  The dock is attached to my Dell Latitude 3570.  When I open DraftSight the drawing environment is displayed in gray color only.  The tool bars surrounding the drawing environment are displayed correctly and are fully active.  When the cursor is moved over the drawing area it disappears from view however the program is still aware of the location of the cursor as the coordinate system tracks its movement in the drawing environment.  This issue persists when a known good drawing is opened.  If I unplug the Latitude 3570 from the dock, DraftSight functions normally on the laptop screen.  I believe that I have the dock driver updated to the most recent version, but Draftsight was working fine and all of a sudden it wasn’t.  Can you help?

Prior to getting this setup, I had an older Optiplex desktop (Win7), and my headphones/splitter adapter had no issues - the headphone function worked and so did the mic.

Any idea what's wrong? Again, the headphone functionality works (either when I use my headphones with splitter adapter, or plug them directly into the docking station headphone port), but the microphone doesn't - I can't record any sound even though, from the screenshot above, it appears to recognize a mic has been plugged in.

Hey there, I own a dell XPS 13 and recently bought a second hand Dell D3000 docking station to plug in 2 external monitors to my laptop. The XPS is currently running under Windows 10.I downloaded the lastest video and USB SS drivers, the lastest Display Link software.I plugged in 1 of the screen which worked for about 10 seconds. Now, none of the 2 external screen I am trying to connect are displaying anything.
Please note that my computer is recognizing the docking station in the device manager
Additional Step I tried: - Unplugging everything, uninstalling the displaylink software, reinstall displaylink software, plug everything back. - Didnt work.

I have a nearly new Dell Inspiron  15 7000-series laptop. I also have a D3100 USB3 docking station. The dock has a monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, and disk drive attached. All was working fine for weeks. Just a few days ago, the speakers stopped working. Sound is now coming out of the laptop speakers even when the laptop is docked. In the Device Manager, when it is docked, there is a USB Audio device that has an exclamation mark on it. (E.g. isn't working.) I've tried updated the audio driver through the Dell support site. No improvement. I then found the latest driver on dell.com for the D3100 dock. I tried installing it, but it was refused, saying that the existing driver was up to date.
The speakers work fine when plugged directly into the laptop audio jack. E.g. there is no problem with the speaker hardware.
Any ideas how I can get the dock audio working again

Dear community, I got a new X1 Carbon (2018) and a Lenovo ThinkPad Pro Dock Station with 135 Watt. It also works very well, but after some time, the external monitor (connected via Display Port) as well as power stop working, while mouse and keyboard connected via USB continue working.  What is going on? Thank you for your help! Kind regards!

Dear all, I have T480 which used to work fine with ThinkPad Pro Docking Station. About a month ago, after connecting laptop to the dock I could not get it to display video on external monitor. I managed to fix the issue by pulling the power out of dock, waiting for five mins and then putting it back in. It was fine for some time, but today I put my laptop in the dock and it won't display video on external monitor, power trick not working anymore. If i open the lid, while laptop is in dock, screen constantly flickers, laptop making USB connection|disconnection sound, mouse cursor (mouse connected to dock) disapperar and appears - so it does not look healhty. I thought about updating firmware on the dock, ut considering abovementioned sympomts I am afraid that dock does not have stable connection with laptop and updating firmware in this conditions may make things worse. Is there anything else I can try other than throwing dock out of the window? Thanks.
