Access Control List Problem

Q: Access Control List Problem

I have a Win2000 system. I have mistakenly set the Access Control List (ACL) to deny access to the C: drive for everyone (stupid, I know). Now I am unable to access any of the programs or the porperties to change that setting back. As a last measure, I tried to reinstall Win 2000, but for some reason the system will not let me do that.

Can someone help?? Please.

Many Thanks

Preferred Solution: Access Control List Problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I had to rebuild my PC a week or so ago and now cannot access a website that I have always been able to access before.

I keep getting a message saying "Forbidden. Access denied by access control list" but there is absolutely nothing within my access control list restricting this site.

I then went in and added the URL as an allowable site within the access control list thinking that might help and I'm still forbidden from accessing the site.

I've cleaned out my cache and ran Ad-aware to see if that would help and still nothing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks very much.

I have installed the BT home hub (British Telecom) There are two user accounts on my pc. I am the administrator, and have no problems using the connection to the hub (either wirelessly or by cable) at all!

I do however, have a problem with any other user been able to connect to the internet. I have tried making them and "Administrator" too, and I get the same error message:

Forbidden

You were denied access because;
Access denied by access control list.

My reasoning told me that it might be a software problem, as a dial up connection, and a standard broadband cable connection all worked peviously with the two "Adimistrator", and "restricted" user accounts.

I spoke to BT who decided that it was a microsoft issue...microsoft UK want to charge me ?49 to help as my XP Home Edition wasn't bought from them, it was pre-installed. I contacted Time Computers for help from them, though I am utterly dissapointed in them...I am a novice computer user, but I recognised that my ?1 per minute technical help call was ludicrous...DON'T USE IT! They spend 5 mins getting and checking your details!

1, Since when has creating a shortcut to a connection ever "lifted" an access denied?

2, I was also told to delete the accounts that were not allowed the access. They told me to click on save files, after I had started to delete the account...they got mixed up with the order of how things are done! Luckily I got it halted!

If you're on a dialup connection, the problem is usually fixed by creating a new dialup connection and deleting the old.

My Computer>Dialup Networking>Make new connection, step through the wizard to make a connection identical to the old except for what you call it. Example: If the old connection is named "Internet," name the new one "Internet2."

If that works, just delete the old connection.

If it doesn't work, start looking here.

Hi All!
I'm having a problem trying to change the name of a user account in windows XP.
You can go into the control panel fine, but when you click on the
"User Accounts" in Control Panel, the page that comes up is blank.
Also there is an error that pops up saying, " The Access Control List (ACL)
Structure Is Invalid." And when you click on the "Back" or the "Forward"
Buttons, an error occurs, "g_navigator is null or not an object"
This is extremely SAD! as I do NOT want to do a reinstallation or a
paste reinstall of windows XP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

A:The access control list (ACL) structure is invalid

ProgramData folder is a hidden folder which contains the application's settings. This folder is separated from Program Files for better security from Windows Vista onwards. AppData folder is also a hidden folder containing user specific settings. Microsoft has made these folders hidden from users on purpose.

Only Administrators have full permissions for ProgramData and AppData folders. Ordinary users will have read only permissions so that they are prevented from making damaging changes to applications.

Checkup whether your another user is an administrator.

I suggest you leave these folders from making changes, unless you know the implications.

Hi Everyone,

I am running a Domain (using Windows Server 2008 R2), that services a variety of Windows (only) client computers. The Windows clients in question are XP Professional, Vista Business, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 8 Professional.

I would like to control access to the internet on my Domain, such that client computers are only able to visit a very select (specific) list of URLs.

Preferably I would like to be able to administer the control of URLs from the Windows Server. Furthermore I would also like to be able to allocate various clients into logical "business groups", e.g.: "Stores", "Sales Team", etc. Finally each group will be permitted access to specific URLs based on their day to day needs.

If simple administration of URLs is not possible from the Server; or if the cost of this approach is inhibitive I am open to suggests on how to limit the URL access of each client computer.

Most client computers in my network have "Administrative" privileges so control from the Server is my greatest hope. However I am able to set various client computers to "User" only privileges.

For extra background information most of my clients use a variety of browsers; therefore it is not uncommon to have Chrome, Firefox & IE all installed on a single client.

Any suggestions & / or help here will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

This is a problem on my friends PC, no Internet access possible, so I saved a HijackThis log on floppy, and am now posting this thread from my own PC.

The PC had no effective AV software (a very old copy of AVG free edition not updated in 6 months), and even older version of Ad-aware, and that's it. No longer possible or able to update them, but I ran them for what it's worth (AVG found 2 Trojans and sent them to virus vault).

I took with me Coolwebshredder on floppy as well and ran that several times. A bit inconclusive, in that it said all clear once, then later said it had found and removed Googlems. Whatever, it seems clear now.

Homepage was initially set to about:blank all the time no matter how many times it was changed to Google. I sorted that by removing what I thought was some obvious BHO (sorry if that was the wrong thing to do), homepage now stays as Google but doesn't allow it to load.

When I open Internet Explorer I get this message instead of the homepage;

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

You have an outdated version of HijackThis. Click here to get the latest version of HijackThis and run it.

Before you give us a new log here, if we gave you instructions for a fix, please do the fixes first and then post the new log with this updated version.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

I just did a clean install of Vista on my Thinkpad T42 last week. I am now noticing problems with permissions -- many folders in my Documents folder show up as "read-only", and I'm having trouble accessing and modifying a lot of my own documents. If I look at the properties of a folder, it says "read-only"; I go to the "security" tab to give myself full control over the folder by checking off the top box, but when I hit "apply" it repeatedly tells me things like:
An error occurred while applying security information to
C:\Users\rex\Documents\Other\fb.rb
The access control list (ACL) structure is invalid.Click to expand...

I've also tried unchecking "read-only" in the folder properties and hitting "ok", but after I log in again, it goes back to "read-only".

One idea I've had is that this could be related to my using the Windows Backup Utility to back-up my data from XP before I did my clean install. Maybe something about the file permissions was stored in the .bkf file, and conflicted with something on my Vista system? Just a guess; I didn't find too much that directly related to this on Google. I tried creating a new profile in Vista and moving all the folders over there and trying the same things, but this didn't solve the problems.

Any ideas? You guys seem to really know your stuff.

Hi guys, I came here because I was searching for removal things for "Instant access/access control" and there were quiet a few results from this forum for removal help, I've tried many things (deleting it manually from the prog files, deleting related files that were listed on symantic's page about it) and it keeps coming back.

I think I've had the thing since Wednesday(5/25) or Thursday(5/26), I can't remember which. I deleted it along with a recently downloaded files and it seemed to keep away from my comp. for a few hours, I later downloaded other files(video files, downloaded Thursday(5/26) or Friday(5/27)) and it came back. I deleted it and the files I had just downloaded, but it didn't get rid of it.

I've read a few of the forum things, some talk about removing things from the registry but I'm really worried about doing that because I think I may completely screw up my computer as I am sort of a klutz. I'm willing to try to edit the registry, though, if someone can tell me how to save it.
I already ran Norton to check for viruses, none showed. I also ran Ad-Aware SE and deleted/quarantined all the things that came up(both the severe and negligible objects)

Is there anything I should know about, like what I should and should not do? (like if I shouldn't leave programs on, etc)

Oh, also... there has been no pop-ups yet, I just get the instant_access pop-up dialer when it gets installed. (I use cable Internet, if t... Read more

I have a form in which I use a value list to record the information to a column in my table. You can select more then one item in the list because I set the multi-select to simple. My issue is that even when you select one it doesn't save your selection to the table. This is very important because the main purpose of this database is to query and create reports based on this value list...The selections need to be saved. Hopefully there is a quick solution to this and nothing too drawn out but either wayI'd appreciate any help given. Thank you.

I do not know anything about Sharepoint lists, but the error message suggests that there may be a related table where it doesn't have a matching record.
Can you just import the sharepoint list, ie not append it, you may then be able to see what record causes the problem.

Hi all,

Access 2003 with VBA code time again!

I have a form named "MyForm" with a single tab control on it named "MyTabCtl1".

The Tab Control holds three pages: "Tab_Page_1", "Tab_Page_2" and "Tab_Page_3" and each page has a number of bound controls on it.

Now, on "Tab_Page_3" I have an unbound control called "Descriptor_00"

I wish to create code that, on loading the form, will set the ".text" or ".value" property of "Descriptor_00" to be a combined string derived from other controls on the same and other pages.

On a standard form, I'd use something like:

Me!MyControl.Value = Me![First Control] & ", " & Me![Second Control] & (etc)

to build my combined string.

But, how would I do this for a control on a page of a tabbed control ? What's the syntax cuz I'me puzzled!!

Does this make any sense?

All the best

R2#conf t R2(config)#access-list 5 deny 192.168.4.0 0.0.0.127
R2(config)#access-list 5 permit any

Will this command filter out 192.168.4.128/26 and 192.168.4.192/26 along with 192.168.4.0/25? If not why?
I think it should filter out because /26 comes under /25.
And why we need to use prefix list to filter 192.168.4.192/26 and 192.168.4.128/26?

R2(config)#ip prefix-list exclude_4 seq 5 deny 192.168.4.0/24 ge 25 le 26
R2(config)#ip prefix-list exclude_4 seq 10 permit 0.0.0.0/0 le 32

Please help me out. I am really confused.

I thought a wifi password was enough security, but when visiting my parent's house and having them complain about slow internet all the time, I decided to look into it.

I've never seen so many unknown devices on a network and I'm unsure on how to go about resolving it. Clearing and refreshing the device list as well as changing the wifi password didn't seem to do anything. Ideas???

Hello all

I created an mfc application which uses List Control. I want to use checkboxes in this List, I set the property like

listctrl.SetExtendedStyle(LVS_EX_CHECKBOXES);

Now I'm able to list checkboxes in list control. But the problem is when I'm clicking on checkbox the entire row is not being highlighted. I used LVS_EX_FULLROWSELECT flag but of no use.
I'm using LIST view style for this list control.

How to code so that the checkbox is checked/unchecked if I click on checkbox as well as the label associated with checkbox. Similarly background should be highlighted if the checkbox state is checked. It seems in this case both checkbox and label are acting independent of each other.

Pls help me with an example , Thanks in advance.

For the seconfd time, I have somehow made my control panel go weird.
Rather than do a recovery, I thought I would seek help.
WHen I click the control panel home button, I dont get individual icons, I get summaries. eg: system and maintenance, security, network and internet etc..not the way it was an hour ago. Have tried classic view and I get a long list instead of icons. No way to change them. I would love to know how I have done this and how to get my other control panel back. ANy ideas?

I have been running Norton IS Pro 2004 for 6 months with no problems on Dell Win XP SP1.

It is now doing a Productivity Control List Update every few hours that locks up my computer for 5 minutes while it completes.

I have Productivity Control disabled but still this happens.
My regular Norton liveupdate is scheduled for 2AM

Any ideas on how to stop or why/what it is doing with so many updates

thanks

I am running 64-Bit Windows 8.1 Pro and this is more of an annoyance than a problem. When I call up the list of Control Panels from the start menu, they are in alphabetical order from left to right and then top to bottom. Short of installing some third party app, is there a way to change the list to be in alphabetical order from top to bottom and then left to right. I would like to be able to see all of the available control panels at the same time, so narrowing the view to one column doesn't work for me.

I have a Home Vista Basic, I loaded a spyware /internet security program from my Internet provider. The spyware diagnostic tools will not start/work and one of the suggestions is to reinstall the program. I tried to uninstall the program and it is not listed/found in the control panel. I can see that the program is is in the program files but cannot uninstall it as the control panel is not showing it, therefore cannot be selected for uninstalling.

Help will be appreciated please..

The list of programs that appears when I attempt to uninstall a program has become truncated and I must scroll down through a long blank space to find the remainder of the list. Since I do not use this feature that often I have no idea what I may have done to trigger this problem,... Any ideas out there for a means of correction?

Don't you mean Start then All Apps
If they are missing then they must be uninstalled already.
If I have got it wrong then please explain more of what you are trying to do and what Apps you are trying to remove.

I am using Word 2007 to edit a large document. In it, I would like the first and last elements in my bulleted lists - which are formatted with the List Paragraph style - to be well spaced from the rest of the text (what's above and below it, which is usually formatted with the Normal style). However, setting values for the Spacing Before and Spacing After parameters under List Paragraph|Modify Style|Format|Paragraph, only spaces the *first* element of the list from the preceding paragraph, and leaves the last element of the list unspaced from the following, Normal-styled paragraph. It's only if I use direct formatting on the last paragraph of the list that I get the desired result, i.e. if I select the last element of the list, go to Paragraph Settings and set the value for Spacing After parameter. As a debugging method, I created a new document and reproduced the scenario (Normal-styled paragraph, bulleted list, another Normal-styled paragraph) - everything is as it should be with the space after the list! What could be wrong with the settings in my document? Thanks for any help! PS: here's a screenshot demonstrating the situation, with paragraph marks enabled - http://www.badongo.com/pic/5386247

I've just uninstalled Photoshop CS4 (after installing CS5).

However, the program name 'Adobe Photoshop CS4' is still listed in Control Panel/Programs list and it's annoying me!

The item was 300Mb+ and is now showing as 3.77Mb.

How can I get rid of it? I can't right click/delete. Is there another way?

Thanks.

D.

A:Removing item name from Control Panel/Programs List

Hello Dinarius,
It may be that the registry key was not deleted.
Download this free app and clean the registry.
Reboot and check.

CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download (Backup Registry When Prompted).

Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

Hi, I've read a lot of other posts about the same issue I'm experiencing but have so far been unable to solve.

[I reinstalled Windows 7 using the Upgrade option (not clean install) but before I could do the reinstall it said I had to uninstall Ati Technologies which I could then reinstall after the upgraded Windows]

I ran install for the Catalyst Softward Suite for drivers which had the CCC listed, but there is no CCC option in the install list when I run to install. It just doesn't appear! I've uninstalled ATI Catalyst Install Manager, ran Driver Sweeper in safe mode and then reinstalled but still the CCC does not appear in the list. I've also checked the Windows/Assesmbly key problem too. It's the same problem as this post: Catalyst Control Center missing/Wont install

I have a Radeon 4000 series card.

A:Catalyst Control Centre doesn't appear on list in Install Manager

Anyone? The driver version says it's 8.634.0.0 from 2009...I can't get new drivers on there.
