Q: X1 YOGA 3rd Gen battery not charging when laptop is shut down

Hi there, I bought my X1 YOGA 3rd gen 2 weeks ago and I just noticed that the battery will not charge when the computer is shut down completely. Is this a new thing with the new model or is there something wrong with my thinkpad? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just received my Yoga 3 Pro-1370 Laptop from the Lenova Repair Center - this was the 2nd service request for the battery issue.  The laptop battery still does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged into an electrical outlet.  Sometimes the charging indicator light will indicate that it is charging - but charges 10 - 15 seconds and goes off.  Confirmed the battery is not charging even though the light is not on just to be sure the issue is not with the power indicator light.  At this point the Lenova Repair Center has had possession of my laptop longer than I have in 2017.  Not sure where to turn to, Call Center/Support seems to be encountering problems and can't log a Service Call?   Seriously, I was asked to schedule a call for them to call me when their systems are up?  Laptop is under warranty, but I'm beginning to think they are trying to run out the clock. I'm typing fast - as Battery Life is below 10%   Any and all suggestions are welcomed.Regards.

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

I recently noticed that my battery was showing 10 percent when it had been plugged in all day. I plugged it in and it didnt seem like it was charging. I could see the laptop plugged in animation, but it was not charging. I woke up the next morning it was showing 96 percent, which at this point should be 100 percent.  I'm now noticing that it's just not charging.  Are there known issues? Regardless, this is totally unacceptable.

My battery is at 0% available, plugged in charging, but it never goes about 0%. I've tried resetting the battery gauge in Energy Manger 1.0.1.49 but that only runs for a few seconds and reports that the gauge reset is complete. I've also disabled the ACPI control in device manager then enabling it and the icon appears to be charging but only for a few seconds then stops. Having conservation mode on or off doesn't seem to make any difference. The latest BIOS is installed and I believe I have the latest version of Energy Manager. Anyone else having this problem?

A:Yoga 2 Pro Battery not charging

I've experienced this a couple times on my new Yoga 2 as well. The first instance, it just started charging again after about an hour of use. The second time, I rebooted after about an hour of it being plugged in and not charging, and once I reached the desktop, the battery showed 43%, but still not charging.. So i guess it was actually charging the whole time without showing it?After about 2 days of ownership, I've decided to do a clean install of windows 8.1 followed by loading all the necessary drivers listed on lenovo's product page, and I can happily say this 0% plugged in not charging thing hasn't happened again.

i have lenovo yoga 720 13" inch model, if i charge the battery lights indicator its still turned on even my device after fully charged. so can i charging my laptop overnight, and does my laptop have overcharge protection ??

A:yoga 720 13" charging battery

Hi Ferry-indra,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Placing the laptop connected to the charger overnight with proper autosurge/ voltage regulator device is safe.

The battery itself have a special overcharger protection as described in the manual page 22:
"Battery charging does not start until the Power Meter shows that less than 95% of the total power remains; under this condition the battery pack can charge to 100% of its capacity. This protects the battery pack from being overcharged or from having a shortened life."

Hope this helps answer your query.

Hello everyone,About a week ago, I got an error message saying something like the battery cannot be identified (I'm trying to find a screenshot somewhere).Since that moment, the battery does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged in, while the battery is nearly full (>90%).I found this thread and it fits exactly to my problem: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Thinkpad-Yoga-14-battery-quot-plugged-i... I understand that this behaviour might be a feature to improve the batteries lifespan, but I really want to get rid of that. The Lenovo Settings App offers the option to manually set the charging-threshold to 40-100%, but setting it to 100% or turning the feature off does not change anything.Another side effect is that the charging process does not begin until about 1 minute after the AC adapter is plugged in.I didn't knowingly change anything on the software configuration when the problem appeared, the said error message appeared while watching YouTube-videos. lg, couka

Hi, welcome to the forums.

I do not know a solution for your problem, but I want to suggest you some trial an error to see if it can be software related issue.

1) Check the Lenovo Settings and see if it asks you to update the System Interface Foundation drivers.
2) Check the support site and just in case check that you have the latest BIOS and the latest "Lenovo Power Management Driver for Windows 10 "

After that check the "Lenovo Settings" and give it a try turning on the option of "extended the battery life", set it to a 80% and give it some time for it to discharge. After that disable that feature to see if the battery charges back again.

Also on "Lenovo Settings", on the same "battery/power" page it has a "restablish" options, maybe you can also try that later.

Sorry that this is just some trial and error, but it is what it cames to my mind right now.

You need to have a look at the battery settings in the Lenovo utilities.  If you have the power setting set to maximise battery life (or similar), you may get that message when the battery is approximately halfway discharged.

Hello,

I seem to be having an intermittent "Not Charging" issue on my Lenovo Yoga 900.

It usually happens when it's fully charged and I unplug it for a few minutes and then plug it back in. If I let it drop below 93-95% it will usually say "Plugged in, charging" again.

Is this some sort of glitch, or a feature? I tried looking to see if I had the "conservation" setting on, and I do not.

I have a few days to take it back to the store if I need to. I'd really rather not send it in because we have problems with couriers dropping off packages that end up getting stolen because we live in an apartment with multiple locked doors, so they usually pitch it beside the door and run off and then someone else takes off with our stuff. Had it happen a couple of times with Amazon orders. (grr)

Thanks to anyone who can answer this!

A:Yoga 900 - Battery plugged in, not charging.

Good day and welcome to the community. This is my experience with my Yoga 900 and Yoga 900S. This way the system isn't trying to constantly top off 1 or 2%, which is not good for the battery. By contrast, Conservation Mode will charge to ~60% and then stop. That has some benefits, also. Personally, I'm not using Conservation Mode, and so far I've not seen any negative effects on my batteries.

Hoipe this helps.Regards.

That's normal. Windows 10 has a mechanism to protect battery from lowering its capacity. It will start charging when battery level will be less than for example 90%.

What is the charge level? If it is more than 60%, then the battery will start charging when battery level goes below 60%. This would be valid if the battery setting has been set to maximum lifespan in energy management. If optimize for runtime had been selected and it still doesnt charge or in the eatlier option below 60% it is not charging, then you would have to take laptop to support.

My Yoga 500 won't charge. While plugged in, the orange battery light flickers on and off, but the battery remains at 0% and says "plugged in, not charging".  This started when the battery fully discharged after I unplugged the laptop for 10 minutes (from 100% battery power).  Can anyone help? I can't even unplug the laptop for a second now or it shuts off completely.  Incidentally, the battery was replaced by Lenovo after I sent it in about 3 months ago because it was faulty. But now the laptop is out of warrenty. This is getting to be beyond a joke!

Hi  I upgraded to Windows 10 and ever since then my laptop battery is not charging. I am a computer illiterate and travelling at the moment so can not even seek my IT departments help. The problem is that the battery shows 1% charge and when connected it to AC the laptop works well - as soon as I disconnected, it goes into hibernate. The symbol for AC connection does show so the laptop is detecting the charger. Along with this I keep on getting a battery calibration suggestion and says that I have not calibrated my battery in a long long time - although I do it every time it shows up. So I dont know what that is. Before the Windows 10 upgrade, my laptop on a 100% charge was giving me up to 6 hours of usage so I doubt there's anything wrong with the battery physically.  Would appreciate an experts advice on this. Please speak to me as you would to a 4 year old as like I said I'm completely computer illiterate!  Thanks & Regards

I've combined several discussions into one because there are multiple cross-overs of symptoms.

After reviewing all the posts, I see there are two types of problems discussed:

Battery charging but only to a certain percentage
Battery intermittently charging

Several people have reported success with their limited battery percentage problem by following the solutions suggested by MarinM and Vladtech.

For the intermittent charging, several people have reported that sometimes the battery charges, sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to dig into these reports. I have a few questions I'd like to ask.

When does it charge, when does it not?
Are there any patterns to this?
Does swapping electrical outlets make a difference?
Does the USB 2.0 charging port appear loose?
Does the cable show any signs of damage?
Does the AC adapter show any signs of damage?
When a second device is plugged into the extra USB port on the AC Adapter, does this impact Y3P charging?
Are there any battery error messages?

Thank you for your help,

At first I thought I had tons of spyware or even a virus, and even posted a Hijackthis file here. Nothing was found.
I figured out that my cpu runs at 100% when using the power outlet, or when my computer is chargnig. When I unplug the powercord and use the battery life, everything runs GREAT!!!!! my cpu drops to a normal 4-8% usage with multiple applications running. WEIRD huh? Can anyone relate to this ?? Is this and indication that my battery is going bad???? Can someone help me with this or suggest what is going on? I am running windows XP home edition, and have a compac presario 1500 series. Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi!My Yoga 500-15ISK Laptop seems to have a battery issue. For some time now, whenever I plug my laptop into the AC power, I get this message, e.g. "(% charge) available, (plugged in, charging)", however for some reason, the battery level actually stays the same even after a significant amount of time of being plugged in to the AC supply. Moreover, the battery icon initially shows the animated one which indicates charging is indeed in progress, then after a few moments, it will freeze on the estimated level. Before this, my laptop's battery usually charges relatively quickly. Also, I have not turned on the Conservation Mode so it must charged up beyond 50-60% especially if I leave it plugged in overnight. This issue is really bewildering me right now. Any comments or suggestions on how I can address this issue? Thanks!Other notes re my laptop:It's been around 10 months since I've bought it and I have encountered this issue only a few days ago.I have no other issues with it.

Hi, i've had my Yoga 3 (11 inch (windows 10)) version for around 18 months, and never had any issues with charging. Over the weekend (23/10/2016) I plugged in my charger, and nothing happened... this worried me, as the laptop only had 6% battery, and if it was a driver problem, this could be very tricky to fix on a dead laptop. My original thoughts were the cable has somehow broken (despite being in perfect condition), and eventually after moving the cable and carefully pushing it into the laptop even further it started to charge! I decided to see if there were new drivers available for my model, and "coincedentally" a new power management driver was released on 23/10/2016! I tried to install this driver, but as soon as the tool starts to run within a milisecond it closes itself.. So my questions are... 1) Do you think its hardware or driver issue? After messing with the lead, the laptop does charge if you bend the wire in a certain direction making me think it's a hardware issue.2) If its a driver issue, (which the driver update coincedence points to).. Can anyone help me install the driver? http://support.lenovo.com/fr/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/Yoga-3-1170/downloads/DS10... Any help on this would be greatly appreaciated. Thankscnagra

It isn't a problem.  The battery has a nearly full charge, so the charging turns off so as not to "cook" the battery.  If you unplug the battery and let it run down a while, then plug it in, it will charge.  I tend not to charge mine until it gets under about 70%.  A Lithium battery slowly degrades after a certain number of charges.

Mfg date for this laptop is Oct 2014, Windows 10 OS. About a month back battery power was about 25% when I plugged charger in. the screen became brighter, means it was charging. Suddenly the computer shut down and though charger was connected, the charging light went off. Thereafter the computer did not turn on either with charger or without. Even the charging light did not turn on. Changed the charger as well as cable but neither charging indicator turned on nor computer turned on. It was like battery fully down and charger not connected. Took it to Lenovo service center and they made it alright and told me that they had disconnected the battery and reconnected. The power left in the battery was still 25%. Exactly same thing happened once again yesterday and I disconnected the battery and reconnected and it worked. Since it happened second time, whatever the problem may be, was not solved permanently by above procedure. Can someone help what could be the reason and how to solve it permanently?

HP g6-1b60us Notebook PCHere is the situation and symptoms. Battery not charging. Battery icon indicates battery being charged, but it sits at 5%. Hello, As the Title suggests, I am not able to turn on my Lenovo Yoga 2 13.When I try to turn on the Laptop, the White Light on the power button comes up for 6 Seconds and then goes off. Keyboard lights do not turn on, & the same effect with pressing the Novo recovery key.The battery does charge (The lights change according to the charge levels.) Things that I have tried so far: 1) Remove the power cable and press the power button for 30 Seconds, 60 Seconds, & 90 Seconds. No Effect. 2) Open up the backside, remove the battery cable (and battery), remove the power cable, and power discharge by pressing the power button. Turn on the laptop using just the Power cable. No Effect. 3) Remove the heatsink, clean it and then reapply the Thermal paste. No Effect. 4) Remove the hard disk and then try turning on. No Effect.  Despite trying all these steps, the effect is still the same. I honestly do not ahve any idea what to do now. Can anyone suggest something?  Any help would be appreciated!Thank You!

Hi. I've updated all the drivers, per technical support's advice. I'm losing 1-5% per day when shut down and 5-10% per day in sleep mode on my new Yoga 920. Is anyone else having this problem? Do tech support read these forums?

Hi amote,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Battery draiining reports are also visible on other OEM forums as well and most likely related to similar features offered by Windows 10. Such also applies to different model of different macnufacturers as well.

Disabling fast start as discussed here would be a good step to try first.

Our forums are peer to peer community discussion group but Tech support (although maybe limited to their own scope of support) also utilizes the discussions we have for investigation of issues.

Update us how things go.

Regards

I bought my Yoga 13 (type 20175) brand new in 2014.  It shipped with Windows 8, 128GB, 4GB, if I recall correctly.  I had a license for W8 Pro that I used and there was a free 8.1 upgrade that I completed not long after purchase. Upgrades over the last (almost) 3 years have been boosting it to 8GB of ram, installing a Samsung SSD 850 EVO (250GB), Windows 10 (Pro), and now a battery. Sometime in 2015, I started noticing that if I didn't use the laptop and left it off for 2 or 3 days, the battery would completely discharge to 0%.  I chalked it up to age, and could still get several hours of moderate use in a day, so it wasn't a priority.  Finally, I bit the bullet and bought a brand new battery and put it in last week. Nothing changed.  I still have the same problem. In retrospect, it may have coincided with the installation of Windows 10.  Below is a further description of the problem and things I have tried.   PROBLEM:When shutting down, the battery loses an average of 2.5% per HOUR. (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 75%)This is consistent whether I use the Windows Start menu, the power button, or a command prompt (shutdown /s /f /t 0) to turn it off.  By the way, putting it in hibernate burns at the same rate. When putting the laptop to sleep, the battery loses only about 0.75% per HOUR (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 92%).  This occurs regardless of how I put it to sleep... I have had a Y50-70 for about 2 years now.  Just in the past 2 weeks i started having issues with my loptop not charging at all when plugged in.  It finally stopped charging and when i investigated it i found that the connector for the charging jack was burned at the connector to the motherboard.  I ordered a new one and had no issues installing it.  After waiting about an hour, because my battery was dead, i turned on my laptop to a partially charged battery.  Unfortunately the battery only charges when my laptop is off.  I have looked into this all over the internet and havent found any good answers.  I have tried to toggled between power saving modes, some reprted that this helped, to no avail.  I then tried to see if the energy manager was the issue and it was not installed on my laptop.  While i was checking out the energy mode, i also uninstalled the battery drivers through device manager, the smart one not the basic driver, and updated all drivers and the bios, but that didnt help either.Next i replaced the batter and hcraging cable, but still no help.  I now have another charging port cable on the way hoping that maybe the last one was bad. While i was waiting for my cable, i thought i would reach out here and ask if anyone has had this issue and has a fix for it.  I looked through the batter thread and didnt see anything like mine. Can anyone help?

Hi, I got my laptop for over 5 yrs and we had a problem with power supply. When the lead was connected the power indication light was flickering and we needed to fiddle with the end of the lead connected to the laptop to have steady power . Now it just does nothing. I bought new power lead but the laptop is just dead. No light and no life what so ever. Question is: is it gone gone or should I try to buy new battery (the old one didnt hold any power at all). Help please

A:Laptop battery not charging

You don't need a battery to operate most laptops. You can and shoudl fact take out the battery and see if it works with just AC.

Otherwise you may have a damage jack in the laptop, they commonly break especially if the power cable required fiddling around with. It's also possible the new power adapter is faulty or that the previous one damaged the motherboard.

Is it a genuine HP battery or a "compatible" 3rd party battery? Have you tried going into the UEFI diagnostics (F2 as you power up) and run the battery diagnostic tool on both batteries and report what is found.

I have a Advent 7011 laptop, and the charger reciver on the laptop is broke, but both charger and battery are both working.

Is there any other way that i can charge the battery or fix the reciver/

Thanks

A:Charging a battery without laptop

Hi lightmas, and welcome to TSG.

You will probably not be able to find any kind of device that will charge the battery outside of the laptop. The laptop has specialized electronics between the charger input jack and the battery. The electronics limits the voltage and current to the battery to prevent fire and other hazards. Any kind of external charging hardware would need to be matched to that particular model of battery.

Depending on the exact nature of the failure of the power input jack (charger reciver?), a repair may be as simple as some careful re-soldering of the jack to the printed circuit board in the computer. More serious damage may require replacing the jack or the entire motherboard.
