Cannot get Mail App to work with Gmail or Hotmail accounts

Q: Cannot get Mail App to work with Gmail or Hotmail accounts

Having got all of my standard stuff, including having MS Outlook handle my email accounts, sorted out; I decided to give the new Windows 10 Mail Application a try.
Unfortunately I cannot get it to do a darned thing:-
1. With my Hotmail account I get error code 0x80070032. I've tried a couple of suggested "solutions" without success.
2. With my Gmail account I get "We didn't find anything to show here" or "Still working on it". Either way nothing shows up.

Maybe I should just stick with MS Outlook.

However, if anyone could help I'd be very grateful.

Preferred Solution: Cannot get Mail App to work with Gmail or Hotmail accounts

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Cannot get Mail App to work with Gmail or Hotmail accounts

For your Hotmail account, change the setting for getting the emails to 'last 3 days' and see if it works. If it does, change it back to whatever interval selection you want.

Usually when Google or other account say those, it's also a syncing issue. Might want to try playing with those settings as well.

I have both outlook.com (same as Hotmail) and Google working in the new Windows 10 mail app and even on my Windows 10 phone preview build. So they can work if you find the problems with your settings.

I use the new Windows Live Mail client to access two IMAP accounts, Gmail and one provided by my University. Gmail works such that whenever you send an email through it, it automatically puts a copy in the Sent Mail folder. So if the WLM client tries to put a copy there as well, you end up with two copies of the email in the Sent Mail folder. The University IMAP account doesn't work like this. A copy will only appear in the Sent Mail folder for that account if the client program puts a copy there.

So the problem is the way WLM handles this. Most IMAP settings are specific to the account. You right click on an account, go to settings, and then go to the IMAP section and specify the folders and stuff like that. However, the option of whether or not WLM puts a copy of an email you send in the Sent Mail folder can only be set for the entire client.

In Tools->Options->Send is the checkbox for this option. If it's checked, I get a single copy of sent mail in the University account and two copies in Gmail. If it is unchecked I get no copies for the University account and just one for Gmail.

Does anyone know a way to fix this?

edit: Oh, and a side question, is it possible to make WLM stop showing the number of unread emails in the trash or spam? They're in there because I have no intention of reading them. I don't care how many are unread.

Dear all

For the past 12 days I haven't been able to access neither one account from yahoo! nor another one from hotmail.com. Coincidently both are my main e-mail accounts . Each problem started within a few hours from each other, and I hadn't done anything to the laptop's system configuration or changed my internet connection's specifications, anything.

What happens is the following:

At www.hotmail.com: Using IE 6.0:
(1) type name and password,
(2) a little window appears, stating: "You are about to view pages over a secure connection. Any information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed by anyone else on the Web."
(3) Press OK
(4) the browser is blank, and stays like that
With Netscape 7.2 it's completely ok, though.

At yahoo.com:
(1) type name and password

With IE 6.0:
(2) a white-background page appears, full of black characters of all sorts.

With Netscape 7.2:
(2) a little window appears with the message "The file "login" is of type application/octet-stream, and Netscape does not know how to handle this file type. This file is located at: http://e1.f611.mail.yahoo.com/ym/
What should Netscape do with this file?
Open it with the default application
Open it with (waiting for a programs' name)
Save it to disk"

In both hotmail and yahoo! cases, the problem only happens with my laptop and at home, as in uni's computer labs or anywhere else I've tried it's ok. Relaxing IE's secur... Read more

A:Live Mail / Hotmail Accounts Broken in Outlook, again

Is Microsoft giving me the implicit message that I should switch to Gmail?

I'm supposed to know what I'm doing with mail but these past few days have just been a zoo of problems, the latest being that by merely re-instating one of my accounts in my local Live Mail Client program running under Win XP Pro, mail got vaporized.

Last time this happened [inexplicable Live Mail client interacting somehow with the server, ditched my inbox] I found the messages in the Deleted folder. Was able to salvage the important ones.
NOT this time.
The Deleted folder was mostly emptied [how?} and the inbox reduced from about 400 messages [not a big deal in terms of % of my allocated space] to 7. Where did the others go? I haven't a clue.
WHY?... ditto. I haven't a clue.

Because of the past trouble I had with phantom/random problems with the Live Mail client, I had switched back to OE6, and it worked flawlessly until last week, when like a lot of users, my accounts [I have three hotmail accounts] suddenly could no longer access the SMTP server - so nothing outgoing went out. So as a matter of survival, this morning I reinstalled one of these accounts in the Live Mail client application. I seemed to gag and slow way down, then after awhile looked OK, but when I checked my Inbox, it was mostly gone.

Any clues?

I recently performed a clean install of Windows 8.1. On the metro start page today was a flag asking me if I wanted to learn more about the OS, so I clicked on it. There might be something new there, I thought.

I was quickly taken to my Microsoft account which contained a link to my Hotmail app page. I'd forgotten I had a Hotmail account, and I've never used it since signing up for the trial version of Windows 8 in October 2012.

Anyway, I clicked on the Hotmail app link and found to my horror mail from third parties to my grandson, mail between him and his mother (my daughter) and between him a bloke he sold a computer to.

Now I do not want to read other people's mail, even if they are family members. I don't want them on the computer or in a cloud somewhere. It seems amazing the Hotmail (or Outlook.com or whoever) can 'sync' across mail accounts.

Does anybody have any experience of this, and how can I stop Hotmail from stealing other people's mail?

I have always used windows live mail in the past with several email accounts on one screen which now keep being lost and do not sync properly since Microsoft started changing things.
My OS is Windows 7.
Now that Microsoft has changed my outlook account to Outlook EMail I want to use it with a few emails as I used to do with live mail but cant seem to do it.
I can open all my hotmail accounts individually using Outlook Email but want to have them all available on one screen. I can log into any one of my hotmail account with no problems but cant add any more accounts to the one I have logged into. Have tried lots of combinations of pop3, imap etc but always get messages like
"we couldn't connect to the server for your other account". which is that the one I opened or the one I want to add?
"make sure POP or IMAP have access." How do I do that?
"we are unable to reach your email provider" surely they are my provider?
I am also confused with the instructions to add an account as to which email address (aleady done or the one to be added) is being requested in which box.
Totally confused!!

Hi, I noticed that in Internet Explorer, which I do not use regularly, the Windows Live login page has all the e-mail addresses saved that people have used and checked the option to "Remember me" while in Firefox, only the last user's e-mail is ever saved so if I am using the computer after my brother, I have to click to sign in with a different user and re-enter my e-mail address. In IE, I just could click my e-mail address on the login page and then just enter my password. Anyone know how to display multiple e-mail address options on the login page, specifically for Firefox?

Hello there,

I'm coming to the end of my tether with Windows Live Mail.

I've had this laptop for just over a year and up until about 4 months ago the mail facility provided by Windows 7 was working perfectly. I previously had my 2 Hotmail accounts synced up and receiving and sending emails no problem.

That is until it died - it stopped receiving mail and started giving me error messages, in despair I began to search online for solutions however I either didn't find anything relating to my Vaio model or the things I did find which could possibly have helped, didn't. I tried deleting the accounts and re-syncing them too - error. (I can't remember these error messages or their codes)

I lost all hope as had other problems with slow start up, slow running time, slow mouse etc. and returned to checking my emails through my browser. Recently I got myself in gear and cleaned the system, defragment etc, and the laptop is back to its almost new state, so I thought I'd give Windows Live Mail another shot.

Same problem I think, will not sync the accounts what so ever, even though the nice little message is telling me:
"Windows Live Mail is synchronising this account.... Read more

That error is a network connection error message, that is commonly associated with Windows update

What security software are you using, that might be blocking WLM connecting.
Do you have an ad blocker as that can cause it, as can a proxy being set or used

A misconfigured firewall can also cause it as can having malware on teh computer

From the other symptoms, I would guess at malware

So I remember noticing something like this in the previews, but now that I'm running RTM it's still there and bugging me:

SOME of my Gmail accounts seems to connect via an appropriate protocol that supports Push, adding "as items arrive" to the list of download frequency, and removing the outgoing and incoming server fields from the bottom of the settings. Others, meanwhile, appear to be auto-configured as basic IMAP accounts, and therefore are limited to 15 minutes as the lowest frequency of checking.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, beyond POSSIBLY the fact that the first two accounts I set up both got proper push configuration, while the later ones didn't. One's a straight gmail.com, the other is a Google Apps account. Meanwhile I deleted the Google Apps account from it along with another gmail.com and then added back the gmail.com and it still configured it using standard IMAP, and yet included "as items arrive" in the dropdown. And now it's giving me timeouts when I try to add back the Google Apps account I removed.

Anyone else having similar experiences, and can anyone else confirm what the limit seems to be, or a possible workaround?

EDIT: After a system restart the Google Apps account I was trying to add back finally appeared. It's no longer available for "as items arrive," though, and the second account I re-added after deleting it still has "as items arrive" as an option. Meanwhile it appears that the se... Read more

A:Limit to number of proper Gmail accounts in Windows Mail app?

An update, FYI: I've since found that I can change, willy-nilly, which two accounts have access to "As items arrive" by taking one of the ones that currently has it OFF of it and down to a longer option. It'll then make the option available to all other accounts until I set it, at which point the rest get limited.

Strange and disappointing. I'd like to know the technical limitations behind this.

Per the advice of this Forum, I started using Thunderbird last fall. It's great! Much better than Outlook, and I love it. But today I added two new addresses to my account, and I can't get T-Bird to receive e-mail sent to those addresses. I called Earthlink, and they helped me set up the new addresses in Outlook (which receives the mail fine). But they don't "support" T-bird, and he couldn't help me. I used all the same settings in setting up the new addresses in T-bird, but to no avail (my original address works fine in T-bird). I went to the Mozilla help site, and I think I did everything right per their instructions. I must be missing something.

Any ideas? Pretty frustrating.

Another comment: last summer my laptop was close to getting thrown in the trash, I had so many viruses, pop-ups, hijacks, etc. This Forum totally rescued my machine. It now works like a million bucks. With no problems. Thanks to the TSG people!!!

It seems to me that the only way I can access my Hotmail account with Windows 8.1 is by using Windows Live Mail 2012. I set up the Outlook.com account and that works fine, but the Hotmail account does not send or receive emails. I get 'logon messages' asking for my password all the time. I tried to set up the Hotmail account using the same WLM settings as on my desktop computer with Win 7, but the categories are not the same for Win 8.1 and the info cannot be entered. I have tried to follow the suggestions that I have seen in other threads, but they haven't helped.
Right now, I have the following settings for my Hotmail: My ID is my Hotmail address, along with my password that I use; the incoming server is POP3; the server field is pop3.live.com with SSL checked and port 995; the outgoing server is smtp.live.com with port 25, with the SSL box checked. My desktop computer WLM 2012 is set up as follows: the ID's etc are my Hotmail addresses and passwords, but there is a server URL....http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/sync.aspx[/url] instead of outgoing and incoming servers etc. There is no Advanced tab here as in Win 8.1.
I hope my explanation is not too confusing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is another thread on another forum that has gotten rather heated regarding the topic of Outlook.com and how contacts are handled.  Since I believe the individual who is upset would really like to know more, but is not aware about the usual behavior of "contact harvesting" from all received and sent e-mail, whether one puts said addresses into one's own personal contacts (or even has removed them from one's own personal contacts) I thought I'd start a thread here, in the appropriate place.
Very few people realize that most web-based e-mail interfaces have a "contact harvesting" feature.  Every e-mail you receive or sent has it's respective "From:" or "To:" address harvested to a contacts pool most people generally never see or know exists unless they seek it out to purge it.  You can even have added and deleted a contact from your personal contacts but this will not result in its removal from the "harvested contacts pool" unless you also explicitly go there and purge it.  The "harvested contacts pool" is pulled from, in addition to your own personal contacts, when you start typing an e-mail address to create the dropdown list of possible addresses that matches what you've typed so far.
I am going to use some screen shots from one of my Gmail accounts to illustrate what I'm talking about.  Stuff that could be considered personal to specific individuals who are in my "harvested contacts pool", which Gmail calls its Other Contacts cate... Read more

A:Can't delete Hotmail or Yahoo mail and can't open Hotmail

Lots of people have problems with Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. The most common causes seem to be cookie rejection, incorrect firewall settings, and/or an overly aggressive and intrusive firewall like ZoneAlarm that does a lot of things without asking.

Are you able to access the email accounts from a computer at another location? (other house, library, etc.)

Did you recently change any settings in a program or install a new program or a new version of or update for one, especially some security program (firewall, antivirus, etc.)?

Do you have a router?

Both programs have a 'start at boot' option that can be disabled it the windows you are seeing pop up at start up. In AIM it's 'prefs' > 'sign on/off' > disable "start AIM when Windows starts".

At present I have 3 pipex pop accounts and 1 hotmail account. I usually retrieve and send all my mail through outlook 2003, but later on this year I'm going abroad and will be accessing my email through random machines.

What I want to know it, is there any way I can access all my email accounts (Pop and hotmail) through the web, rather than using a client ? I believe Hotmail used to provide this service with its free accounts, but has since stopped, although I am not sure whether this is true or not.

As a side note, I can access my pipex accounts through pipex netmail, which is a web based email service, free to pipex customers. The only problem is, it's so annoying to use. You have to log in three times to access all three accounts, one by one, typing in ludicrous passwords and addresses every time you do. It's a royal pain in the hoop. So my second question is, is there any way I can access all three accounts simulateously ?

I suppose the principle would be the same as accessing three different Hotmail accounts. Do you have to sign out and in when checking three different hotmail accounts too ? Or is there some weay round this.

Any help anyone could give me would be great

Installed SP1 late last week and I'm quite unhappy with it. Stupid SP turned all the start up items and proccesses on, that I'd spent weeks filtering through and turning off. I've turned off pretty much everything, yet my computer takes about twice as long to boot up as before. I HATE that stupid icon they've used to replace the hourglass, because it's ALWAYS there.

In addition, the newest oddity is only the 1st person to login can get their hotmail without a reboot. If I login under my username and get hotmail, then my wife switches user and tries to get her hotmail she can login, but can't view her inbox. The opposite is true if she logs in first and I switch user.

After installing SP2 on my Vista Business OS laptop I could no longer send and receive all my mail in Windows Mail.
I had my BT Yahoo mail account set up to deliver all my mail to my POP inbox. This included mail from 2 other servers which could then be accessed through my Mail Inbox. Several of the email addresses are used for a web page that I maintain on an Apache server and cannot be accessed in any other manner. The other server that had mail forwarded to my Inbox can be accessed with HTTP and is not so important, yet still irritating.

Microsoft's answer to problems with the (now unsupported, apparently) Windows Mail that all Vista users have paid for, seems to be exclusively to tell everyone to move to using Windows Live Mail.
So I downloaded it most reluctantly. And it also does not work with these forwarded mail addresses. Just keep getting asked for a password over and over.

I can go to the BT Yahoo server and send mail there out of these external addresses but it is not possible to receive mail.

So is that it, Microsoft? Can I no longer access these accounts at all?

I would change to using Mozilla Thunderbird but it has no facility for importing my huge store of Windows Mail Messages.

Any suggestions anybody, I have spent many hours on this and it is driving me demented. All real help would be most appreciated.

Hi, I'm having trouble signing out of hotmail and signing into a different hotmail account. It signs me out, but when I revisit hotmail to sign in on a different account, it automatically logs me back into the first account. It didn't used to do this. Anybody know how to sign out and stay signed out? thx

Just found out that Microsoft Hotmail no longer supports remote access to new accounts using Outlook Express 6. They give you a message to try to get you to upgrade to the paid service.

Work-around that is still (yet) able to be used to set-up a new account and still use Express to access is to use a NON-US based Hotmail (ie. MSN.com.uk, ninemsn.co.au, etc.) They may eventually get around to doing the same thing on the off-shore sites, but once the account has been set-up, there isn't any problem in continuing to use Express to access them.

Of course, you can always use something else, too, if you want.

Is it possible for hotmail to remember all my 3 hotmail addresses?
Because the messenger does that when I click on "Remember me", but I always need to retype my email addresses for checking emails.

I know that there is a auto-forward function in hotmail (like from old to new), but that is not what I need.

I remember in WLM 8.5 I never needed to login again to check emails, but WLM 9 does not work that way anymore.

Any ideas?

BTW, this is about remembering the email addresses, not passwords.

A:Multiple hotmail accounts

I stay logged in on one Hotmail account and forward other Hotmail account and ISP email account to that one account.

That doesn't answer your question though as I understand it. Next time you log in see if that option is mentioned.
Other options such as the one I mentioned can be found by clicking on options and then clicking on more options.
You should see the options below and more.

Manage your account

* View and edit your personal information
* Send and receive mail from other e-mail accounts
* Forward mail to another e-mail account
* Send automated vacation replies

I haven't had this problem in the past, but I've tried sending emails last week and today to people with hotmail addresses. I'm using MS Outlook Express. Can you tell me why I'm suddenly receiving this message with hotmail addresses and if there is anything I can do? thanks!

[This Message was undeliverable due to the following reason:

Your message was not delivered because the destination computer was
not reachable within the allowed queue period. The amount of time
a message is queued before it is returned depends on local configura-
tion parameters.

Most likely there is a network problem that prevented delivery, but
it is also possible that the computer is turned off, or does not
have a mail system running right now.

Your message was not delivered within 0 days and 1 hours.

A:Can't send to hotmail accounts

The explanation in the message sounds about right. It could also be that the e-mail address has been de-activated because the owner hasn't logged into it for 30 days, maybe their inbox is full too. I'm not sure what happens message wise if you try and send to a full hotmail inbox but you're only allowed 2mb for free.

Hi, I've been having this ongoing problem now for 6 months. It seems that all of my accounts have been used to send spam. I have 3 hotmail accounts which, 1 for friends and 2 bogus ones I give out to websites that want an e-mail.

On one of my accounts I get a message from hotmail before I login telling me that my account has "suspicious activities" that someone may be using it to send spam. I login and in my inbox all I see is FW: hkjhklh spam. Now that account I removed all contact lists.

But today I got a warning from Avast about a malware block, that happened to the said account before but now it happens to all my accounts, whenever I click on any link in Hotmail - example: New, Contacts, Drafts, I get that warning no matter which account, something that never happened before.

I use avast anti virus, I routinely run malewarebytes, and windows defender and nothing comes up. Could I have a keylogger? Should I just delete all my accounts and use a different e-mail provider? This is becoming an extreme nuisance and I don't want to be used as a proxy to sell viagra. Most forums I'm subscribed to our on a hijacked account including this forum and I will have to sign up all over again.

Please help. I use chrome as my browser. Here is attached a pic of the warning.

Thank you.

Hey I was wondering if it is possible to merge 2 or more hotmail/msn accounts, and if so how I would go about doing it.

A:Merging 2 or more hotmail accounts

if you just wanna be able to check both accounts at the same time you could probably use outlook express and set it up to check both accounts, thats if hotmail lets you use pop3 access. or maybe go into one of the accounts settings and see if you can set it to just automatically forward all its emails to the other account then just use that other account to get all your emails from both accounts. not sure if thats exactly what your trying to do or not, if not let us know with more detail exactly what your trying to do.

Earlier today I signed up for a Microsoft account so as I could use OneNote. Now for some reason I cannot get into any of my Hotmail accounts. I've tried and can access the same accounts on my old PC.

I now seem to also have to sign in to my PC with the Microsoft account I created. I've never had to do this before.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:Lost all Hotmail accounts

Logout of this account, then you should see the listing of the accounts that are on this machine, select the account that you want to use and type in the required password.
This listing on my machine is in the lower left corner of the screen.

I and wife have two accounts: [email protected] and [email protected]
I have Win7-64 and she Win8.

My wife (and I for that matter!) are not good at computers. Therefore I tend to check her mail from her Win8. However it would be convenient to be able to sign in from mine but there appears to be no way I can enter her address as only my account opens.

Appreciate assistance please

A:Sign In Hotmail - Different Accounts

Do you use the Web email page https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=...c=1&cbcxt=mail
, or do you use a client program such as Windows Live Mail ?

I normally use a client program such as MS Outlook, Live mail, Thunderbird, etc., and can access multiple email accounts.
But, i can also login to the Outlook.com web page with different accounts.

Greetings All

My computer is accessed by 2 people, me and ny mate. We both have hotmail accounts.

For my m8 dave its his only email account but for me i have the one that came along with my isp as well.

The problem is that whenever either of us logs into our respective hotmail accounts either by using shortcuts created on the desktop or by typing the Hotmail url in the browser or putting Hotmail into a search engine and following the links we get to the log in page and its is always the other persons info in the pre-filled info boxes. B4 i used to get my hotmail via OE6 but now Uncle Bill has stopped that.. Its just a real hassle having to type my email addy into it each time cuz it aint a short name or password.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated

TIA Bambino

A:Multiple Hotmail Accounts

Hi Bambino234

After filling in the correct e-mail and password and *before* clicking the Sign In button, change the options below the Sign In button to: Always ask for e-mail address and password
Both accounts will most likely need to be configured that way.
Let us know if that works for you or not.

I recently had to reinstall my Windows XP OS after a computer crash. Prior to the reinstall I had 3 email accounts listed in IO7 when I opened hotmail. All 3 accounts could be easily accessed by clicking on the account name with no further input required (ie PW). After the reinstall and installation of IE7, I only get one email account listed and the PW has to be inputted each time. For the other accounts, I have to click on another account and input the account name and PW. How can I get back to the way it was before the OS reinstall? Any and all help is appreciated.

A:Multiple hotmail accounts on IE7

When you enter all there click the "remember me on this computer" box thing. That should save them.

For as long as I can remember if you clicked 'remember me' when you log into hotmail.com it would keep those accounts at the log in screen so you just click one then type the password.

starting this week (i think) it no longer saves more than one account.

Before when i went to hotmail.com it would have three accounts to chose from. My two different ones and and my girlfriends. No it just displays the last one who logged in, and if you click the grew link 'show more saved users' it only has that one, even though each time we logged in we clicked 'remember me'.

I know a friend of mine is also having this issue, is anybody else?

Windows 7, IE8

I currently have a wireless ISP that I'm not totally happy with and have been thinking about switching over to another ISP - specifically Century Link due to the much lower monthly price, hopefully better reliability and much higher speeds (12mb vs 1.5mb).

My question is my current ISP offers email to which I have three email accounts attached and once I leave this ISP I will need to set up new email accounts - gmail, etc. In the event I'm not happy with Century Link down the road and want to change providers again I don't want to have to change the email accounts so does using the ".gmail.com" extension make sense or is there something else that makes better sense? I know Century Link also offers their own email extensions but that would then lock me into them which is not what I want to do.

Also, with my current ISP I have been using Windows Live Mail and like it and have quite a few folders, etc that I have accumulated over the 6 years I have had these accounts. Going forward I tried setting up some gmail accounts and inside WLM I set them up also so when I get my new mail it comes in for the gmail accounts along with the mail from the current ISP email accounts. I realize I can "store" the new gmail entries in the old WLM folders by simply dragging and dropping the entry into my old WLM folders or is this not a wise thing to do? Or should I make the same folders under the "gmail" accounts and drag and drop the old folder con... Read more

A:Live Mail vs other mail programs and email accounts

use gmail and then you are ISP independant - I have been for years
also with the client I use , I also leave the email on the gmail server - and just move to "all mail" on gmail - that way i have a backup of my email on gmail servers. you get quite a lot of storage on gmail - and every now and then I purge out all the rubbish email on the gmail server
Also by moving the email to "all folders" - i f i want to work without my PC - i can log into the web service and then only se the latest email in the inbox

i keep the same folders for all my email accounts- and often use an inbox rule on my client (thunderbird) to move to folders

but thats how i like to work

I have three different Hotmail email accounts. All three worked fine this morning, this afternoon all three had password problems, and the secret question/answer has been changed! What do I do? I swear someone is using one of those programs that I see where you can hack into someone's computer remotely. I frequently lose resources for no apparent reason. For all three accounts to have password problems seems impossible. Can anyone help me?
