Hi all, 4 days ago my 2 year old S440 suddenly switched off when I removed the power cord. It still worked when I had the power cord plugged in. 2 days later the battery worked again and the laptop was running even with the power cord removed. So all good. Today all bad: the laptop wouldn't turn on again, even with the power cord plugged in. I tried the elsewhere described trick to push the power button at 30s intervals (even after removing the RAM and the HDD). But I still couldn't recover the machine. Status quo:I plug in the power chord (battery inside): the red light flashes 3 times, I press the power button and the red light turns on for 3 secs, then turns off, nothing else happensI remove the battery, plug in the chord, red light flashes 3 times, and a few secs later the fan starts and continues in a on-off-loopI plug in the connector of the battery: the fan moves a little bit for a secondAny ideas what's wrong or what I can do to fix this? Thanks!

Hello Community, I am missing a Rubber Feet on My Thinkpad S440. Unfortunately i cant find  which detailed partnumber this thing has. Contacting Lenovo and IBM Support was not very successfull till now. When i search for my modelnumber "20AY00BMGE" i can find the following parts:  00HM522 "Rubber kit(2).base.non-touch"00HM524 "Rubber kit(400).base.non-touch" But which one is the corret one? I would be very gratefull if you could help me (: Best Regards

A:Order Rubber Feet Thinkpad S440

Hi

I search for both part numers on the Internet without much luck. I even say a site where it says the "Rubber kit(400).base.non-touch" cames with 400 units which sound wrong (but you never know).

The only idea that cames to me mind is to ask for the price of both units. Maybe the price is low, since they are rubber feets, and you can order both just in case. I know it is dumb idea but I haven't found anything on the Internet about those parts.

I was wondering whether somebody could shed some light on this issue. I am (as many more I guess) suffering from memory shortcut on my S440. Now I just stumbled uppon a new upgrade option from Curcial:http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct204864bf160b Is this module compatible with a S440 i7 4500u? BIOS might be an issue as far as I read.

A:Thinkpad S440 16GB memory upgrade

No,  It won't work and the problem isn't the BIOS or a Lenovo limitation.  You have a 4th gen CPU  i7-4500u.  The 16GB modules only work on 5th gen or later

Hi, After installing Windows 8.1 I've had big problems with my brand new Thinkpad S440. The laptop has generated systematic bluescreens, mostly related to the Intel Wireless-N 7260 WiFi module. Disabling it in the Device Manager helped a little bit, but I also get other Bluescreens related to e.g.. to "usbxhci.sys" and other modules. After the BSoD the laptop always goes into a reboot-loop at the Lenovo logo during the boot-up with the only solution do do a hard shut down (keeping the power-button pressed for 5 sec).  Yesterday I tried doing a fresh install, but it did not help at all. A few minutes after installing Win 8.1 from scratch the laptop generated a bluescreen. I have updated all drivers to the latest version, and also tried to solve it by installing an earlier version of e.g. the WiFi driver. Neither one has helped.  Below is a list of the minidumps generated during BSoD's I've had during the last 12 hours since installing a fresh copy of Windows 8.1.  Please, what can I do about this situation? I would not like to return the machine since I like the hardware, but in the current state my Thinkpad S440 is useless. I have not found a way going back to Windows 8.0, since the recovery partition on the HDD apparently was destroyed (according to an Microsoft engineer) during my first trial to update to Win 8.1. Hi Kxer44, It's mainly a driver isuue as you noticed. Unfortunately I don't think much can be done about it for now. You will have to wait for Lenovo to release drivers compatible with windows 8.1. You will need to order a set of recovering discs from Lenovo and reinstall windows 8: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-4M7HWZ Vince.

Dear all, I bought a Thinkpad S440 in Germany a few years ago and additionally purchased an on-site warranty extension, which is valid internationally and allows a technician to come directly to your home to fix the problem. I already used that warranty option in Germany for a broken sound card and it worked perfectly. Technician came and solved the problem on site. Now, I'm living in Japan and my S440 suddenly doesn't boot up anymore if the battery is plugged in. Works when I unplug the battery. Tried the notorious "unplug and push the power button for 30s" tip in many different variations, but nada. Probably battery dead or Mainboard problem, who knows. I'd now like to use my international warranty option here in Japan, but the Japanese customer service said they don't have the parts here. According to them, I am supposed to ask the German customer service to send the parts to them. Problem is, I cannot call them in Germany and am also tired of solving that problem myself when I actually paid big money for that warranty pack. So, does anybody know a contact address of somebody in a higher hierarchy and can help me to escalate that problem? Maybe global warranty management or something? I feel lost and am really wasting my time here.  I would greatly appreciate any help. Best,Simon

Hello, I am new here and I realy hope you can help me! I've have the Lenovo Thinkpad S440 (as in the description). It is the model with SSD, i5 U, Intel integrated graphics, 8GB Ram etc. The display which was build in was the HD+ matt model (1600x900 px) I've had some water in bag back pouring into the screen. I tried to fix it and after I disassembled the screen, I got all the water out of it but the backlight was not working anymore. So I ordered a new display. While I was looking for it, I came to the knwoledge, that you can take a replacement screen from the Lenovo Thinkpad T440s, at least considering that most 1600x900px displays seem to be the same for each of them. So I thought: okay, then I should be able to use the 1080p display for the t440s as well, since it also has a 30 pin eDP connector. So I ordered one and put it in my S440 and it fits perfektly. But now the display only gives a really dim short fliker while booting the machine and nothing is viewable, so the display stays completely black. Is there a possibility to fix it or can I only use the 1600x900 px displays on the s440? As I sayd the screen fits perfect and the 30 pin eDP connector also fits perfekt into the new display. If I use an external display via HDMI, the image is shown normal on this external screen. Also it seems that the new internal screen is not recognised, since in the intel graphics options I cannot chose it as the main screen, only if I go for dual screen it is an option. ... Read more

As the warranty was no longer valid I had it expertised. The expertise showed that the screws on the hard drive were loose and one of them started to move inside of the laptop, causing a short circuit on the motherboard.Anyone ever had that problem ? Any idea on what I should do ?It seems to me that it is a huge problem of fabrication which I would not be able to avoid by myself... Sorry for my bad english and thank you for your answers.Cheers.

Hi all, It has been about a month since I received the new X1 Extreme, and it has been quite good so far, but today, for some unknown reason, I've run into some apparent battery issues. I charged my computer overnight yesterday, and when I tried using it in class today, it wouldn't start. The red light on the ThinkPad logo wasn't flashing at all, so something was off. I tried turning it on many times, but nothing happened.  When I came home, I plugged it in and it allowed me to turn it on, but it was stuck at 46% charge and wouldn't move (even after an hour - a period of time sufficient to charge the computer up to 80%). Then, as I was writing this post, a loud 2 bell ringing sound came on and the computer shut down. When I started it up again (connected to the AC adapter), the Lenovo Vantage battery icon displayed an "X" and the Windows battery appeared empty. I made sure to back up everything and updated BIOS and other drivers just in case, but nothing seemed to work. If I disconnect the AC adapter, the computer immediately dies. Like this, the computer is no longer useful to me since I need it on the go.  I'll contact Lenovo support once my schedule frees up a bit, but if this has happened before and you've found a solution, I'd like to get this back to normal as soon as possible. Thanks,  Reilly

Hello,I have a user here who has a T460s laptop who's batteries are no longer holding a sufficient charge. Pretty sure the laptop has 2 (internal) batteries. When the use takes the laptop out of the office, it's losing power afterabout an hour, maybe an hour and a half. After an hour, I was able to open a chat session with a tech, who said if we clicked on the battery icon down in the sys.tray, there'd be an indicator if the battery/batteries were bad. However, we did that and there is no such indicator oralert. Clicking on the same batttery icon and then clicking on Battery Settings, there are no notifications posted in the windowthat opens giving any indication of any issues with the batteries. Despite that, the batteries no longer retain the charge they once did. Is there any onboard diagnostic that can be run to determine which, or both batteries are bad?  Or any other locationwhere there might be helpI need to weigh the cost of replacing the batteries vs. having the user get a new laptop. Thanks very much! Jim

I'm supporting T460s and T560s for my job and in the last month have had 3 battery issues occur out of no where. I'm using Windows 10 64-bit. I'd like to find a solution from the forums or at least a way to find what is causing this so I can plan for other laptops to go bad.  In the last month, I've dealt with 3 Thinkpads that have had a sudden change of heart about finding Battery #2. Nothing special happened. I booted, looked at the system information to see if this one has the specs to setup for a specific user and BAM - "Battery 2 not found". I was really hoping to get this all setup and out to a user who's using a 5 year old laptop.  I've ran Lenovo's System Update; I've updated Windows; I've downloaded the Power Management software from Lenovo yet still this battery is not found. I took it apart to ensure the battery was seated correctly. I re-imaged it from an image from last summer. Nothing.  Are these faulty batteries? Does that battery recall need to be expanded again? Is it the Motherboard? Is this a string of bad luck? How do I identify what the cause is? I refuse to believe this is coincidence.

But then theres also this:- With the external battery in the laptop and the charger plugged in, the laptop powers up and displays "Error 0190 : Critical low battery error" and then switches off.  I looked this error up in my laptops manual and it says that I should replace the system board-The laptop also doesn't run with the charger plugged in and the battery removed, so does this mean the charger is broken as well?

A:ThinkPad (T430) battery compatibility issue

HelloThe batteries for T410/420 are not compatible with T430, even Lenovo genuine ones. Because of T430 features hardware authentification of the battery installed. The batteries for old laptops like T410/420 don't have such features (authentification chips inside). This chip missing causes the battery being installed in the T430 can't be charged. So, you have to purchase Lenovo original battery for T430.

Hi,I recently purchased Thinkpad X1 yoga (1 Gen) machine with 16Gb Ram, 512GB SSD & WQHD IPS (Not even OLED) display with windows 10 pro 64 bit OS.My laptop battery is draining fast and only last for 4 to 5 hours with normal browsing & usage with 60-75% brightness (even reducing it to 50% doesn't give much improvement) and in Power save mode. As per Lenovo it should last for 9 to 11 hours but in reality it is no where near to it. I had also looked at similar issues that has been raised in this forum by other users as well. But I strongly feel that a top brand like Lenovo/Thinkpad doesn't cheat customers by giving false promises for the battery life of  9 to 11 hours without their internal testing, also I feel they would have not be claiming this (9 to 11 hrs) battery life by keeping their screen brightness to dark i.e. less than 50% or 25%. So i thought i could dig deeper to find out the problem. After my initial analysis using powercfg.exe command tool for sleepstudy, the report (i.e. https://ibb.co/hzob7F) shows me some a Ghost application called "Unknown [None]" which comsumes more power and I guess this is the culprit that cases the battery to drain faster. Looks like this Ghost appid takes around 60% of the power compared with all the other appid.  But not sure how to identify this Ghost appid. I have also posted my query in Microsoft forum but yet to get an reply.https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-othe... I have a ThinkPad T460P. Some time ago it fell off to the side of couch while plugged in and bent the adapter / end of charger insert upon impact. After i would receive a "plugged in but not charging" message. I could still get this machine to charge if i closed it and inserted the charger, let it sit, and then open. Somewhat inconsistent but it worked. Finally the other day i was running a video and the battery drained completely without realizing it was not charging. I received a critically low battery message. Charger no longer worked and machine would not turn on. I bought a new 90W charger to see if it would do the trick. When i plug this in, the light above the thinkpad sign and also the light in power button flashes 3 times but then nothing else. Normally this light would strobe. The charger appears to work as the light near the port has gone from yellow to green. But the machine no longer turns on. Sometimes i can get it to flash when pressing the power but nothing. Also tried a number of tricks like taking the battery out, holding the power button for a while, putting all back in and trying again. Machine will also not turn on when plugged in without the battery in. Thoughts? Am i cooked here?

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

Hello!  I am seeking the sage wisdom of veteran thinkpad owners for an upcoming purchase.  I am considering an x250 (i5, 256 ssd, 8gb, 1080P ips non touch, with nothing but a fresh install of Windows 10 pro 64 bit and MS office pro plus) to use for the next two years while I complete a degree(mostly paper writing, web browsing, netflix/youtube etc..nothing heavy). Before the update batteries had proper order and were named accordingly: battery 1, battery 2, no surprises here. I was just wondering is it just me or you guys have the same situation going on with your batteries? Is there a way to change the order back to "normal"? .

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.Click to expand...

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

Hey there,
I've been using my upgraded Inpiron 17R SE happily for a couple of years by now. I've even gone as far as buying an 128GB SSD to futureproof it. This is the only drive - besides the DVD drive - currently present in the laptop. However I've had an issue for quite a while:
Whenever I try to boot the Laptop only using the Battery (even fully charged) it Posts then loads Windows and turns of just before the Login-Screen (I can't see it). When I proceed to turn it back on, it Posts then beeps and says that there is a Real Time Clock Error and gives me the option to proceed booting or to enter Setup.
This however doesn't occur when using the Power-Brick. Moreover it isn't always the case. Sometimes the Laptop boots and works fine just using the battery, but then upon opening a Programm (while under battery-power) it shuts of and gives the same error message again. If it decides to work the battery still lasts for 2-2.5 hours.
I'm really confused to what the problem is. It could be a power delivery problem, but it's still the original battery and laptop with only the HDD changed to a SSD.
I'm aware of it being a rather old machine, but selling it is my only hope for getting a new laptop for college, but I can't sell it in this state.
I'm at a lost and really really sad because of this issue. I'm sorry for any typos or grammar mistakes, I'm a non native english speaker.

Wrote a month or so ago about a faulty U330 battery.  I replaced it with a new one and am having the same issue--rapid discharge. For example, the battery power goes from 100% to 95% within 3 mintues, from 95% to 73% within 15 minutes.  With the original battery, I noticed that its power could stay at 0% for quite some time before the computer shut down. The battery lasts a decently long time, but the real issue is that I pretty much have spontaneous shutdowns since I can't predict the actual power remaining. Could this be a Win 7 issue and not an issue with the battery's actual capacity? Any other suggestions on how to fix this?

A:U330 Battery Issue--New Battery, Still Discharging Fast

Hey Gurbly,

Curious to know is the replacement battery that you bought is it from Lenovo or is it a generic brand battery ?

If this is a Lenovo battery, might I suggest the following link :

http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/Welcome-FAQs-Knowledge-Base/How-can-I-increase-battery-life/ta-p/244800

If the above does not help, could you try the following.

1. Replacement Battery to be drained.
2. Replacement Battery to be fully charge. During this time do not turn on the U330
3. Once fully charge, turn on computer and login to your operating system. Do not launch any application and if possible disable any apps that auto starts.
4. Change the power management to "do not turn off hard drive and monitor" when battery is used
5. Adjust screen brightness to 50%
6. Leave the laptop idle,
7. Check within 3-5 minutes if the battery level drops from 100% to 95%
8. record your finding and reply back.

Thanks for reading this. i have never posted anything in my life but i am stumped and need some help!
I got a dell inspiron 2200 and one day i was running it while it was pluged in and i unpluged it and the laptop just "Bloop" shut off......i tried turning it back on but nothing. just as if i had no battery in it at all. when i pluged it back in it fired up like normal i checked the battery meter and it said 97% full then charged up to 100% full but still it wont run off the battery. as soon as i unplug it it shuts right off.

Someone told me to run the battery calibration but my bios doesnt have an option for it. at least i cant find it. i know it has it somewere because when i first bought this laptop the screen was broke and when i bought a new one for it and booted it up it said i had to run the battery calibration befor it could start "not sure why" but i did...watched it drain and charge. so i know it's in here somewere. do you think this would even help?

Also i think i updated the bios so it might have had an older bios witch might have had the battery calibration and the new one i put on doesnt. It has verison A07 now. i tried "downgrading" to A05 and A06 but it doesnt let me, Says i have a newer verison and cannot install an older verison.

Stinks. this problem kinda takes the "Mobil" feature out of a laptop. Any help would be Awesome!

A:Laptop battery issue ??battery calibration??

i'm afraid the battery calibration program is only used to initialize new Li-Ion batteries which need to be prepped with an initial charge-discharge cycle.

It sounds to me like you have a battery composed of 32 (probably AA sized) cells.
One of those cells has died and hence you see only 97% charge. Unfortunately losing a single cell prevents current from entering or leaving the battery so your battery will not discharge correctly therefore shutoff without discharge.

I think you need a new battery. Although it may be possible to replace the single bad cell, other cells may be degraded also - if one cell failed, why not others? unit could have been exposed to heat etc.

Although I was an engineer for Gould, I am not a battery expert!

good luck!
Simon

I bought a second-hand IBM ThinkPad T30 at the start of January. I bought a new battery for it a while ago, and I've had to get two replacement batteries because of problems. The guy who sold me the computer told me that you shouldn't keep charging the battery after it is already charged - what he means is that when the battery is fully charged you should take the power cord out and run it on the battery. Has anyone heard this before?

Should it be okay to keep running the computer on the mains after the battery is fully charged? Would it be all right to remove the battery?

Hi to everyone, let me introduce my problem:  I live in Chile and I wanted to renew my 2010 Lenovo G60, so I bought from Amazon an 11e (not available here in Chile) and the only problem I am having is that the battery drops dramatically while it is being used (I take care of the battery with everything I can via Software and by using the PC with care), even though I have updated everything, the problem keeps going on. The Lenovo battery "doctor" says it is working fine and when I download the battery software updater, it shows that my battery needs no update. Has anyone have had this problem too? Thanks  PD: I forgot to mention that it is the one with Windows 10 and 128GB SSD (20D90020US)

My ThinkPad X230tSuddenly stopped working on battery and works only on charger plugged in. I thought the problem was with the batter so I brought a replacement. I replaced the battery with the new one, but it didn't work, so I thought the battery was empty. I connected the charger and charged the batter full for an hour or so till it was 100% charged, yet, when I unplugged the charger the laptop was dead. What could be the problem?
