Q: dockStation Elite X7W54AA with Spectre x360 13-ac004nf and d...

Hi,I would like to buy a Spectre x360 13-ac004nf and use it with a docking station and 2 external 27" monitors (2560x1440).I read that the doking sation is not able to provide power to the laptop.But, will it work if I plug the power spply in one USB-C 3.1 and the docking station to the other USB-C 3.1? Subsidiary question, will the laptop/dock support 2 external monitors 2560x1440? Thanks,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I guess I would like to see the dock but yes if you use the provided laptop power supply in one USB-C and then connect the other to a USB-C (Thunderbolt) port replicator (dock) with a pair of DisplayPort or HDMI ports it will drive two UHD monitors just fine.

I am really happy with the X360 15 laptop and it does impress allot of people. I work from home and regularly visit my customers. For these occasions I had bought the Elite USB-C Dock - of course giving me many ways to connect, but also as a second charging device (in case I forget the original charger). Of course I was hoping that since both are HP devices it would work as expected. Now upon connecting the Dock via USB-C, it will display a notification telling me "For full performance, connect a higher capacity power adapter." This does suggest to me that it should 'perform' but not with full power - charge less quickly i assume. This is okay for me. But for some reason it does not charge at all when the laptop is active or stand-by. It will charge when the laptop is 'Off'. Now of course this is not really a solution for me - an empty battery and/or a laptop that is switched off does not really help me being productive . I have been reading outher blogs about this - but had not yet found this specific combination. I found on other blogs that it is a setting (DRM?) for each specific laptop model - and some laptops have received an update that solves this issue. Hopefully this message/request will  generate suggestions for me or maybe even reach the HP support organization and open a dialog.

Hello I just bought a new HP Spectre X360 with a elite thunderbolt 3 65w dock. After installing all the drivers everything is working when i connect the laptop to the dock. But the only thing that i cannot get to work is the power button on the dock. It doesnt light up in any colour like it says in the manuel and when i press it, it does nothing. I went to search for thunderbolt options in the bios but it seems there are none there. I updated to the latest bios (f.11) btw. Hope someone can help me with a solution kind regards Jelle

I have the Spectre model X7V20UA#ABA and based on this answer bought an HP Active Pen.  I cannot get teh machine to acknowledge the pen in any way. I've followed what instructions I could find (basically have the pen near the computer when you turn the computer off and then back on) and it will nto use it in One Note.  Is this an incompatible device?

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same.The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

hello, we have a brand new spectre. first the device is amazing, i love it. but we have the following problem with the  HP Elite Thunderbold 3 65W Dock, if the Spectre is connected over Thunderbold Cable and on the Dock with Thunderbolt/Power combination cable connector, One 4.5mm power input every Device is working, Network is working, USB, both Display Ports are working, but the Spectre does not charge. i have installed the newest FIrmware Update  for the Thunderbold Dock Driver and i have updated BIOS, Intel Thunderbold Drivers on the Spectre. We have changed also the Thunderbolt 3 Dock with an new one, same problem.  one thing, on the front the light is off and i cannot turn on the spectre with the button.  any ideas, hints??? and yes i have connected the spectre over one of the 2 thunderbold ports, because the spectre has only 3 usb-c ports but 2 of them have thunderbold technology. i see also that the tb3 dock is recognized in windows at the thunderbold software.  kind regards, sebastian

I purchased the HP Envy x360 13-y013cl and the HP Elite USB-C Dock. I couldn't find any specific information on compatibility from either product and the exact laptop doesn't seem to be listed on HP's site.  However, other Envy models recommend this dock as the correct one (and only recommended option under accessories).   When I plug in the dock and plug the USB-C cable into the computer, nothing happens.  The computer isn't able to see it, the firmware update utility doesn't see it, the computer doesn't charge, and nothing related to the dock works.   Did I get a defective dock or a computer with a bad USB-C port?  Is it completely incompatible?  Am I doing something wrong that's not obvious? I don't currently have any other USB-C devices to rule out the possiblity of a the computer having a bad port, nor do I have another USB-C computer to try the dock with.   If the dock is not compatible, are there any other options for a compatible USB-C dock that will charge the laptop?

Upon opening the notebook on my desk, a series of cracks surfaced on the upper-left bezel of the screen, and extended across the screen. I keep my notebook for the most part on my desk, and when I travel, I put in the HP leather case, and in a well-paded bag. I've owned this notebook since August last year, and it has performed excellently besides the occaisonal loud fan noise and overheat.  I talked with a helpful HP Customer Support Rep, and I was told that if I were to send in my notebook, and screen damage will be presumed inflicted by the customer. I have also been in contact with the HP Executive board, but their reply did not grant me any help. I would like to know if I can send in my notebook for a proper examination, or if I can speak with a case manager on this issue. I really do not want to file a complaint to the BBB, but I feel that will be necessary if the material defect is to be assumed a damage on my part. Thank you in advance. I will include pictures of my display, as well as pictures of the siding to prove the lack of physical/blunt damage.

HP's lack of quality control is completely unacceptable and inexcusable, especially given the cost of the Spectre x360 line.I went through 5 (FIVE!) 13-inch Spectre x360's. All but one exhibited very loose trackpads (even very light taps will physically move the trackpad down and have an annoying loose click sound when taking your finger off of it). The one with an okay trackpad had USB-C issues. The trackpad -- arguable THE most important part of a laptop -- now feels like garbage. Hell, there are $200 Windows laptops and Chromebooks that have better trackpads than this $1,200 thing.It's extremely frustrating and disappointing. I REALLY wanted for the Spectre x360 to be my laptop (especially considering there's no other 2-in-1 out there that looks this good and is priced as nicely). Looks like the Lenovo Yoga 720 is next on my list. Just wish it had IR cameras for facial logins.

Just finished setting up my second Spectre x360 15t. The first one was a driver and screen flickering mess. As I'm finishing putting it through it's paces by running audio with a few tunes through Spotify and then over to Netflix to check dialogue, I've become aware that the fan has been running for some time. When I picked it up to feel the underside I was quite dismayed to feel how hot this thing was. Not cozy up to the fire hot but call the fire department hot. It was on a Xpad which was starting to get a bit toasty itself. No way this could ever sit directly on my lap. I know this is an ultrabook. I know i7 processors run warm under load but this fella gets HOT. I'm coming off a Spectre 13t with an i5 which is just as tight a unit as this one, but it never reached this kind of hot. I'm humorously concerned if I can put this on my desk while under heavy load without melting the finish off. Is anyone else experiencing similar circumstances? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Hi, I have an HP Spectre x360 that is a year and 5 months old. I was running it off the battery when suddenly a whole lot of smoke started coming from underneath the notebook and a smell of burnt plastic filled the air. Reading the forum I found that this is not something new to these HP Spectre x360 notebooks. Its it really possibile that HP have not activated a support program for who owns such an expensive notebook. My notebook is out of warrenty but I honestly think it was a close call, i was working on a wooden table when it started burning. Now I have a 1250 euro paper weight. I did try to contact support and was immediatly cut off once i gave them my serial number, or offered to pay for support. Will paying 30 euros actually achieve something, ie will they attempt a repair or will it be 30 euros just to be told over the phone that its something that simply cannot be repaired. Thanks

Hello, Last winter purchased a convertible lenovo laptop. The first one had faulty hinges, I had it replaced on the same day I brought it in and the second one had faulty hinges and a faulty touchpad. So, I decided to ditch the cheaper computers and splurged on a HP spectre x360 from Best Buy. I live 200 kilometres away from large retail stores like this so getting back and forth is quite difficult, Staples was very understanding about the Lenovo laptops, however Best Buy told me there was nothing I could do when I described the problems I was having with my brand new HP. Several months went by and I avoided using the computer as much as possible in order to avoid facing the mistake I made in purchasing it. Eventually, my old computer became completely obsolete and I had no choice but use this HP.  My problems were not limited in any way. They ranged from an extremely annoying touchpad that sounded loose and made strange noises, the fact that the screen was closing on an odd angle, and the fact the the screen could barely stay open. A slight touch or even shifting the laptop would cause the screen to move. I could forgive these flaws if I had abused this computer or if it had received heavy usage, however I barely even turned the thing on. The 1-minute hold of the power switch worked for me, but it is darn hard to do because of the somewhat inconvenient power switch position - and if you waver for a moment then the 60 seconds starts again. I found it easiest to turn the 360 on its side on a table and then it is easier to hold the switch down for the full minute uninterrupted. This for me only points out the importance for manufacturers to provide a HARD RESET capability through an unfolded paperclip or the like. C'mon guys, give us what we need to maintain our products!

New owner of HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx here. I want to ask if the bottom of the laptop, the area above the fan openings where the FCC info/text lies, is supposed to creak when I press it slightly. I first heard this noise when I took my laptop out of the sleeve and held that area. At first I thought it was just rubbing against the sleeve, but after further examination, that is not the case. If this occurs with other models of the Spectre, it is a bad build quality, I am not sure which component is under there, but I want to know if the creaking noise is normal with only a slight press along the text area. Thanks.

Hi, my spectre x360 just out of warranty and will no longer charge the battery! Charger checked and working. When plugged into laptop, symbol appears to show connection but then states not charging. Battery nearly flat now but diagnostics state batter condition ok. Would appreciate any ideas to resolve please but I am not considered computer literate just general working knowledge!

I bought the HP Spectre x360 15" several months ago.  I never heard the fan come on even once until a few weeks ago.  I have done some updates from the HP site that were specific for my model Spectre.  There were so many that I couldn't even begin to guess which one did it, if any.  The fan comes on randomly, not dependent on what I have open from what I can tell.  I have it elevated on a rise with plenty of air flow underneath and have it plugged into the power cord when using.

Hi, I bought a new HP spectre x360,For my job I need to run simulation trought OpenFOAM, so it's easyer for me to use Linux.  Nearly everything work out of the box, except one things... sound.  I post a bug on launchpad, here the link:Bug Hp spectre x360 It as nearly everything you need to debug the phenomena. I know that you don't officially suport linux on that computer, but it would be fun to be at least linux compatible. Thing I know:There was a bug that really look like this one on the Dell XPS 13. The bug was in the bios, wich was setting the sound card to alternative mode that was not working. I think is the same here. I need to find a way to tell the bios to load everything like if it is windows 8.1 (Yeah, I just ask no special treatement!)  Thank you,I will give all support you need. I really wish to correct this bug. PS: (HP if you correct this bug you will sell three more of those computer, they all want one in the lab!) Follow up:It's seem that we are now hable to use the lagacy mode from the sound card. It's good, but not perfect. The fix for the i2c will come soon, the latest kernel code ask about a mysterious drivers file that doesn't exist right now in the linux firmware directories. So, this case is close because the issue as been addressed. I SOLVED IT! After hours of pain, i can now use the built in soundcard with headphones, as well as the internal speakers. HOW TO: Edit grub config by doing:'sudo vim /etc/default/grub' Edit the line:GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash'" To:GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi='!Windows 2013' acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'" Then run:'sudo update-grub' Reboot TWO times. BOOM! Sound works in headphones. The Manual kind of casually says it will support PCIe (Aka NVME) M.2 drives but of the service parts listed in the manual all are M.2 SATA disks. This is the 512 gig: 801504-001  So that is a SATA B + M module and the Evo 960 M.2 looks like this:  See the difference in the gold leads that plug into the motherboard (keys)...Yours is a 5th gen Intel Core platform and most of the laptops that will run PCIe M.2 disks are 6th and 7th generation so I say you likely will not be able to use the Samsung 960 Evo.  Manual see p. 20 If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as SOlution" to help others find it.

I purchased an HP Spectre 15 x360 in March 2016 and have been struggling with freezing/lock ups since then. I have tried updating all drivers but this hasn't fixed the problem. Almost daily, the screen freezes, the cursor shows a "busy" signal, and Windows does not recover. I have to do a full shutdown and restart, and lose all my work. I haven't been able to pinpoint what is causing this freezing. This has been a problem since the laptop was first received, so I am wondering if there is a hardware problem. Hi, just ordered the Spectre x360 after a lot of googling around about it's active pen support.  I haven't been able to find the official "HP Active Stylus" in my country (Norway), which I've read quite a bit of negativity about anyways, however I found one named "HP Pro Tablet Active Pen" (K8P73AA) which according to a reply by an HP employee in an older thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Spectre-x360-Active-Pen-Stylus-C...) is supposedly supported by the Synpatics digitizer in the x360. The official documentation however, has no mention of this. I've also read an overwhelming amount of feedback that a recent firmware update disabled the support for the Dell stylus which many apparently found success in, so this is another reason I am uncertain. Could this update have disabled the support for the other HP styluses as well? Before i go out and spend a lot of money on this pen I was wondering whether someone has tried the HP Pro Tablet Active Pen themselves on the x360, or whether any HP employee could confirm this compatibility. I already consulted the hp specialist technician in Brazil and after many tests the problem was not discovered. I have a Spectre x360 notebook that is soon two years old. It hasn't been used a lot, but recently I have taken it into active use again. I'm experiencing unexpected shutdowns, and it seems to be running hot. A:HP Spectre x360 running hot

You should be able to hear the fan running and if it's hot and the fan is not running, you should turn it off and get it serviced. You don't want to fry the cpu.

My HP spectre x 360 was working fine a couple days ago. I was using it on battery power and got a note that battery power was low. I was finished for the night so I closed it up without plugging it in. The next day I tried to turn it on it wouldn't power up at all, even when plugged in. When I plug the AC adapter in, there is a steady white light that comes on next to the port. I have tried the troubleshooting tips attempting to do a hard reset and there is no response whatsoever. I am extremely upset to read that this is a common issue. I am two months past warranty, and the timing seems very odd. I am self-employed and cannot afford to be without this laptop, which I spent a lot of money on. What is my recourse?

Hello, I have a HP Spectre x360 which is about 1 1/2 years old, bought in the UK (so annoyingly outside the 1 year warranty). A few days ago it stopped working. No damange, no software problems, no upgrades orf software updates. It simply wouldn't turn on. I've tried a hard reset and all the troubleshooting guides, but no joy. The small ac adaptor light does light up when i plug it it, but no response to the power button. This seems to be a known problem for this particular brand, but my only options appear to be to pay for a very expensive repair.  To me, this is simply unacceptable for a computer to break after such a short time, and with only infrequant usage. I can't find any number to call HP on without paying a large fee. I've tried the retailer, and the same thing. I can pay 60 for them to look at it and see what is wrong, but the chap at the store suggested it would probably cost much more than this to fix once I pay for labour and the parts.  Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve this? Thanks.

I bought hp laptop spectre x360 with a global warranty from usa but it stopped working and is not getting on after a lot off try and even the people here in india are saying that they can't do anything with this laptop as dont have support for this. This is really bad of hp that the product with global warranty don't have support on there sevice stations.

I bought an HP Spectre x360 for college and everything was fine at first.... but for the past couple of months, my laptop has been having some real loud fan issues. Just by starting up the device with minimal programs causes it to whir very obnoxiously. I only have Skype, Microsoft Office, and a few other basic programs installed on it... is there any way to fix this?

Hello everyone,so suddenly and for reason my laptop (HP Spectre X360) stopped workin  and it shows no sign of life anymore, the only led works now is the charging led, when I plug in my charger it lits in white that's it!! no other lights or any feedback from the pc!! it's less than 6 months old now and never had any issues with it before! I went to bestbuy and they said it might be the motherboard that needs to be replaced, so idk if anyone of you had the issue before? and if the motherboard has been replaced would I lose all my data? and do they even need to access my data to replace the motherboard??thanks,,,

Twice today, my laptop set idle and all of a sudden it started to open windows like someone was hacking the computer.  I turned off the wi-fi and it showed windows with scripts opening mainly on the left bottom corner of the screen.  I bought this laptop 4 days ago and I've not loaded much on it.  Has anyone had this problem?  When I turn it to tablet mode it stops.  I have videos of it if needed.

Hi All,I am experiencing several issues with my notebook.In order of priority:the clickpad doesn't work properly: it get stuck frequently and I can only wake up it after pressing Esc button. I have tried everything mentioned in the troubleshooting of the HP support assistant (changing configurations, uninstall and reinstall drivers several times, format the PC and reinstall Windows). I am sure it is not an hardware issue since the animated icon tray on the setbar show that the clickpad is responsive;after trying to solve the clickpad issue something with my BIOS went wrong. I cannot move thorough the menu and for each key I press the notebook returns a sound. I tried to reset the BIOS but the problem is the same and now I have also lost the function keys setting (I really need them since I am intensely working with Excel).The shift dx with arrow left doesn't work at times.The notebook seems to not recognize the restart (for example after a driver uninstall or reinstall)Problem 1 and 3 showed up since I bought the notebook. I look forward to receiving your help and advice,Best.

The latest Spectre x360 model has most of the specs I am looking for in a new laptop...  except the physical size!  A 15" laptop suits my needs better than 13" but the specs of the 15" model have not yet been updated.  When will a new 15" Spectre x360 model with a 7th generation/Kaby Lake i7 Intel processor be released?

Could not be more upset with HP. As I search the forums I am seeing so many people with this problem and looks like me the college student is the next on the list. My spectre x360 is just over a year old, shocking just past it's warranty, and the motherboard fried itself. I paid nearly 1400 dollars for this laptop as an investment in college. Now I'm only praying a local repair shop can salvage the memory. I'm left without a laptop during exam month and have lost all my college work. I was then asked at tech support to pay them nearly 700 dollars just to look at my laptop. I will honestly never buy from HP again, I paid good money I saved for college on a laptop I loved and it is now gone with HP refusing to help me out in any way. I took care of this laptop like a child had protective casing and everything not a dent or scratch to be seen, clearly a problem with HP and they won't fix it. So dissapointed.

I recently purchase both a HP Spectre x360 15t and a HP Spectre x360 13.  I was understanding that the USB-C prot supported charging.  However, the HP Spectre x360 15t failes to recognize the USB-C charger (from Spectre x360 13). Is there anyway to charge the HP x360 Spectre via USB-C port.
