Preferred Solution: My pc turned off and restarted directly after.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: My pc turned off and restarted directly after.

It could be heat related, do you have any temperature monitoring program like "Core Temp"? When was the last time you blew out the dust?

Three weeks ago my computer was infected with the google redirect virus and Microsoft Security Essentials could not be reinstalled or opened. Virus removal programs did not manage to remove it until Microsoft support told me to first run rkill. Then they gave a series of virusscanners and fixes to be run and the computer seemed to be itself. I changed from Firefox to Chrome in the hope that browser would be saver. Unfortunately, a week ago, my computer acted strange again, this time by turning the battery loading indicator of and more inconveniently, the wireless lan. By using the on/off wireless lan button, the wireless lan did not work. I restarted in safe mode with networking and that worked. So I turned off most of the start-up processes and the wireless lan runs until the computer has been to sleep. After that only a restart helps the wireless lan to be turned on. I have run several anti-virus programs and in the beginning two trojans were found (sorry, I do not know which because I happily thought that would solve the problem) but did not bring a solution. Microsoft Security Essentials keeps on running this time so Microsoft support does not give help by email this time. I have reset the router to fabric installation but still the problem stays.

I run windows xp Pro w/ sp3 on a pentium IV 2.4 w/ 2 1/2 gigs of memory and a VIA

because of a wireless bluetooth mouse and keyboard combo that don't wake from

itself. I have another xp machine on the router, but it was powered off. The only computer

see why it started? I checked the event viewer and didn't see anything unusual. paj692

In the BIOS, did you see any listings under Boot options dealing with Wake-On settings such as WOL (Wake on Lan) etc?

Some boards also have a setting to enable/disable boot state in the event of power loss. Other possibilities include faulty motherboard or faulty powersupply.

There are many different Wake events that could be turned on (depending upon the motherboard):

Wake on LAN
Wake on Modem
Wake on Keyboard/Mouse
Wake on Power Restore (starts the computer after power loss)
Plus some boards have the option to turn the system on at specified times.

My services were offered by my father to a guy to install a dual boot on his system. I have done this procedure before so I felt fairly comfortable doing it on a system belonging to a business. However, mid dual boot procedure I start recieving BootMGR Missing Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to reboot. Immediatly I hit google; however, all given solutions prove to be negative in fixing.
The gentalman was supposed to have backed up his system for me, the words out of his mouth are "I'm doing as we speak". Vista came preinstalled so I have no Vista Home Premium x64 disks. So, I call up the guy and he says somethings came up and he couldn't make them but what ever I do make sure I get vista working again, don't lose his stuff.
Now it's forget the dual boot just get vista back, but this damn BootMGR won't stop popping up. I'm at a loss of things to do.

Hello Aaon, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I recently got an update from Microsoft on Win 7, and immediately after it had finished updating I had no sound in any application (AIM, Skype, Chrome, Firefox, Youtube, etc.). This has happened before, and I ran Microsoft's Sound problems wizard and it always said that an option had been clicked off and that it had restored it. This time when I ran the wizard it says it detects no problems. I am sure it is the software, as it happens a lot with MS updates. Will downloading a new driver help? I can't go back to a previous configuration, I don't have one to go to. What should I Do? A computer without sound is like a bicycle without wheels.

Hi guys,

I have an acer aspire one KAV60 mini laptop, It was dropped and the LCD panel was broken. I used it with an external VGA monitor while the ebay LCD purchased arrived home. I didnt use the laptop for 1 month.

Today the LCD panel arrived, I changed it right away. But as soon I connected the flex cable LCD panel when On with a white light like if the LED Backlight was connected directly.

Laptop was turned off when this happens. If I turn the laptop On, then the LCD panel goes black (Led light turns off) HD powers on, vent powers on, power led is on, if I plug the AC adapter then charge led is on; but no Bios logo at all. Like if the BIOS operations where dead at all.

LCD was used but in good shape as quoted by the seller on ebay. Now, if the screen was in "short circuit" when purchased could this mess up the whole laptop? Could a defective LCD panel cause the motherboard to die?

Or could the motherboard die just becaus it cans, and that to be the reason why the LCD panel goes on white light? What do you think can be wrong now with my laptop?

Thanks in advance.

A:Acer KAV60: LCD is white when turned off, no image when turned on

It could be a defective inverter or LCD panel. I would try a new inverter first

I was playing War of the roses earlier, and my pc decided to turn off for no reason. I thought, ok, I'll just turn it back on after dinner and continue playing. But when I pressed the on button, nothing happened. I tried a few more times and opened up my case. I unplugged the power cable then plugged it back in, and the CPU fan turned on for about a second, then went dead, and this happens everytime I unplug and replug. I'm pretty certain it's a PSU fault, but I just need someone to clarify this for me before I buy a new one. If it isn't a PSU problem then please tell me what else it could be and what I should do about it? By the way, I only built it a week ago, so my warranty is still valid, if that changes anything. Thanks in advance <3

Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .

Quote:
A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress

Some generic advice.

If you are overclocking STOP. Return to the default settings at least for now.
If you are running a RAID update its driver.
You can read more on this error and what to try here... Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try

Hey everyone.

Came home the other day to find a BSOD on my pc an since then it wont boot, tried every type of repair option an a fresh install wont work either.

tried 2 other hard drives and i still get the same error Set up is being restarted and the pc restarts. Sometimes it jus freezes at the BIOS start screen, when it does it fails to display RAM.

Could it be faulty Ram? (2 x 1gb) (it has the normal one beep at start too)

tried different cables, different ports.

Its XP Home.

Anybody got any help on this?

Thanks!

A:Set up is being restarted

ok i managed to get XP installed after i FORMATTED the hard drive not (QUICK FORMAT) which i was doing.

Everything worked fine but on restart it only booted to desktop 1 out of 5 times, freezing at the bios screen while displaying RAM.

Ive tested the RAM on another pc and it gave no errors so I'm thinkin a faulty Motherboard?
The RAM is dual channel but runs at single channel because the pc wont boot when i put them in matching colored slots.

Anoybody hear of this before?

Thanks

Ok, this problem has been going on for weeks now. I've tried other forums, my motherboard manufacturer (who have yet to respond to me [the reason i contacted them will be explained later]), no one has been able to help.

Ok, here is my problem. I really hope someone can help me out with this. Ok, one day I noticed that my HDD was filled with garbage, it was running slow and ZoneAlarm recently found and removed a trojan. So i figured it was time to format. I had two HDD's plugged in a 40GB and a 160GB (the one XP was installed on). So from this point on, let the 40GB HDD be known as HDD (B) and the 160 (which i want XP installed on) as (A).

Ok, so I put the XP CD in the drive, restarted my computer and went from there. I should have stopped as soon as I saw this, but when the installation got to the point where it listed the HDD's I wanted to install XP on, it showed HDD B (the one XP was on and wanted to re-install on) as drive D: which was obviously not right. My D: drive, my spare HDD, HDD A, was now being recognized as drive C: and my 160, B, was showing as D:. So, I chose the 160 (drive D: ) which was a stupid mistake and I have no Idea why I did that, but anyway, XP installed perfectly, but when I checked, XP was installed on the D: drive.

I figured, Windows being installed on the D: drive wouldnt be good, so I unplugged my spare HDD (the 40Gb which was now being recognized as C: ) and began to reinstall XP again. This time, only with the 160GB HDD plugg... Read more

Okay here's the deal.

Yesterday I closed my portable PC like every other day. When I started it today, it says preparing your desktop. When vista opened my account was restarted to default as if I just created it. I go in my document to find out they are gone. So I do a search of some files that were in my document to see if they were deleted. Well they are not and the path is exactly the one leading to my document.

Right now I'm kind of confused. My account as resetted to default. My document are not gone but their path is still good even if I don't see them in my document.

Any ideal what happened?

That error code can refer to hardware failure. Are you overclocking? Are the fans all working? Have you checked your temps in the BIOS? My first concern would be that it's heat related.

Under this message it asks to visit Windows.com for any problems. This whole screen fladhes for around 10-13 seconds and then vanishes displaying the black screen.
I don't know what to do? My important work has been stopped. Please help me as asoon as possible.
Regards

A:My laptop getting restarted again and again

Start with the Dell diagnostics (F12 at powerup).  Run an extended (NOT just quick) test on the hard drive.
If you see any errors, reply with those -- and with the full model and OS information (i.e., Inspiron 5521, XPS L502x, and Windows 10-64 bit, etc.).

Hi people! I'm new here. In fact the only reason I actually registered was because this problem has been nagging me for the past few days but got much worse earlier today.

First let me list the problems:
-- A couple of days back, my system started becoming very sluggish. I ran a whole bunch of clean up (CleanUp!), adware removal(AdAware 7.1.0.11) and anti-virus programs (AVG 7.5), all having the latest updates. It didn't really solve much of a problem even though AVG detected a few Trojans and I even deleted them (but they return with obscure names like 2erstsgd.exe or waw43qsd.exe).
-- Many of my USB drives have this file called m.exe (with an accompanying autorun.inf) but it returns even though I delete it.
-- Today my system restarted on its own, not once but a few times and gave me the 'blue screen of death'. ON starting AVG or HiJackThis, they both crash. In fact, a simple search using the terms 'avg' or 'hijackthis' on firefox crashes firefox.

Here's my HiJackThis log (I read somewhere to rename the file to bru.exe and it worked like a charm):

Heyya guys,

NOTE: First paragraph contains back story to help users resolve the issue, but is not essential to read.

im using a Lenovo ThinkPad X60 laptop and i have recently had an issue with Windows Vista resulting in me deciding to return to XP. I installed my copy of XP Pro edition with no trouble what so ever but found that i had lots of drivers missing, including those for my Ethernet port and wireless card. Luckily i had the family PC to hand to download the wireless drivers so i could begin installing other drivers on my personal PC.I installed a game (Conquer Online) to test if the VGA Controller was working and instead i was greeted with a message telling me that my sound card wasn't functioning properly and suggesting that i check my sound card drivers, which i did immediately. The drivers were already installed, but i went to the manufacturers website and downloaded the new updated drivers, only to find that they also did not work. I tested the sound card with the audio files with no result.

So i went to the troubleshooting section of the manufacturers website, where they suggested i load the default configuration on my BIOS. However in my haste to get the sound card working i did not read th whole article and instead of loading the default configuration by pressing F9 i selected restart > Load Setup Defaults
From what i can see the two seem to to the same thing any way, but either way i am still left with this problem.

Now when my laptop boots up i ge... Read more

A:BIOS Restarted, No HDD?

Welcome to TSG!!

Did you delete the existing partition when installing XP? While booting from the Windows CD, you get to a point where it asks if you want to repair an existing installation or replace. If you opt to replace, as it seems you intend, you'll need to delete the existing partition by pressing <D>, then <Enter>, then <L>. Then reformat the drive using NTFS.

My computer just restarted out of nowhere when I was just browsing web pages. It was not a BSOD, it was more like pressing the reset button (of course i didn't press anything).
After i boot it back, it said "The system has recovered from a serious error." and I clicked for more information. It then showed
Error signature
BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : 8057A615 BCP3 : F3885B80
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

there's also a .dmp and a .xml file too, but i don't know what to do with them

I am not sure if there's something wrong with my hardware. Would it be my power supply? I noticed it was warmer than normal. Maybe because of the room temperature...

It seems you have been infected with a Trojan virus. Check this out http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;894278. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en to download Microsofts AntiSpyware Tool.

Before running any spyware programs, please run an online antivirus scan at one of the below sites to make sure that you don't have a virus. It is recommended to run a scan online because there are some viruses that can disable or make themselves invisible to the antivirus programs you have on your computer. If any viruses are found, write them down and remove them. Before running any of them, first disable System Restore if you have Windows M... Read more

Ok, the other day I was on my computer and I heard a quite loud "pop" come from the computer. But...since that pop, the computer has been fine. But during my game, city of heroes, My whole computer shut down and restarted itself. It is a newly reformatted drive and I haven't downloaded Directx10 yet. I am doing that now, just in case that's the problem. I am hoping the pop and the computer restarting itself is of no relationship to each other. When my computer started back up I did not get any errors. Here is my specs:

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.080814-1236)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: VIA TECHNOLOGIES, INC.
System Model: P4X400-8235
BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
Memory: 1024MB RAM
Page File: 324MB used, 2135MB available
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.5512 32bit Unicode

I am also running AVG Internet Security 8.0 that scans on a daily basis-I don't have any viruses, spyware or malware, rootkits..etc.

A:Computer Restarted itself

Look at the motherboard inside, specifically at the larger "can type" electrolytic capacitors.

If these are faulty, there may already be leakage of gue, and the tops of the caps may be bulging.

Look at typical photos on this site:

I was online and my CPU unexpectedly just restarted. Just wondering if it's anything to worry about? Do I have a virus? Did some hacker try and take over my CPU? Power surge or something? Never had it happen to me before and just thought I'd see what you experts thought. Thanks!

My first guess would be possible overheating.....maybe a fan going bad?? I'm no expert tho......you may want to ask a mod to transfer this to the hardware forum....those guys are great with this type of thing!

i have this problem with my xp sp2,I tried to repair it with win xp cd, the setup copies files to hard drive, reboots and when it should continue the setup, blue screen appears with message "setup is being restarted..." ,
I know it's not hardware problem because my linux works and I installed another xp on the same partition with the broken one.
I wonder is there a way to preserve my old xp version,
could I replace same files in the old version so it can boot again, if so which files..

get back on normally. I'm guessing this may have to do with an virus? I remember disabling a virus protecter for a few, and forgot to enable it back. Google Chrome was starting to freeze up off and on, so I turned off the power button. After turning back on the power button, I'm now stuck at the set up menu. I tried starting it up normally, but nothing. Tried starting it up from the last known succesfull restart, but nothing. I have an error that says, "Windows failed to restart. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your windows installation disc (don't have)..'
2. ... etc.
3. .... "

On the same screen, I see something along the lines as this:

Status:0xc0000001
Info: An unexpected error has occured

Anyways, is there anything I can possibly to fix this problem? Is this the right forum for this topic? I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks a lot,
SS

I just logged into my account, everything was fine, but 10 seconds after i logged in. I didn't get to do anything i didn't press anything and the desktop cleared up. All i could see is the wallpaper. I restarted and had difficultly logging in. After i clicked on my profile it never logged in, it basically froze, except i can move my mouse. After several restarts it worked and i found my desktop to be erased. All there was is a couple of icons, my theme was gone, my nothing was starting up, only the basics. It looked like my profile was formated. I checked other profiles on this computer and theirs was fine!!!
How do i get it back the way it was.

After that happened, i went to system restore it was on, but all the drivers were suspended, so i turned it back on and now the only date i can system restore to is when this problem [email protected]!!!!!

A:My profile restarted!

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile

Basically you need to create a new user profile; copy your data to it and delete the damaged one.
System restore does not deal with your profile; it is not a magical time machine. It is designed to rescue windows when something bad happens.
