Preferred Solution: DVD burner not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Dvd burner stops working as a drive and burner.

First, try emptying the CD Burning cache in:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning (you may to unhide folders in Folder options first).

Next check Device Manager and make sure the drives are showing under DVD/CD-ROM Drives.

Next, try the upper/lower filter fix in registry. You can download fix from :
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/xp_fixes.html
Click on 'Restore Cd/DVD drives to explorer' link.

Can anybody out there help a little old lady? I recently reformated my hard drive - re entered XP and everything was fine for a couple of days and then when I went to re install some programs from CDs neither the Cd burner or the regular CD-Rom will work at all. The regular CD-Rom sounds like it is running but evidently it is not reading - nothing from the CD burner. Any suggestions?

I recently went to burn a CD through Windows Media Player. Everything was going as usual until it went to COMPLETE. Once that was done all the songs showed a red check beside them and there was nothing on the CD. I have a Dell E1405. I can't remember if there was an error code or not.

I would try another program, e.g. ImageBurn ( The Official ImgBurn Website ) - or if you happen to have Roxio on your system. That is pretty good too.

Hi!
I installed a LG DVDRAM GSA-4120B but for some reason its not working...windows is reading it but its not functional...
In the device properties I get : "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"
I tried to use Microsoft help but it doesn't work...It says to uninstall the drive and restart or other method is to delete specific registry entries and restart which didn't help as well.
The DVD is installed through IDE cable...not sata but i have another HD which is installed through IDE as well and it works perfectly.i tried switching it from MASTER to SLAVE and to SINGLE but i have the same effect...on start up windows try to install the driver for the device through the internet but fails...
I have no other ideas why this is happening on my last computer it worked just fine so i pretty sure the DVD is ok and not malfunctioning.
Please help
Thanks

Have a friend in college who has a Inspiron 5100. The cdrw/dvd drive will read a cd...when it wants to. Can't get anything to burn to it though. The only way to even get it to read, is to delete the drive from device manager, reboot, and then it will read. Still won't burn though. She's used I-tunes, and we even loaded Nero and tried it. No luck.
Is this drive dying a slow and painful death? That's what it's seeming to me, right about now!!!

hey, have an issue where whatever software i use to try and burn a cd it will not let me (have tried imgburn, windows media player and nero kwik burn) the cd player itself is working but I cannot burn (have had an error message along the lines of writespeed incompatible with hardware?) any ideas! thank you

A:CD Burner not working

There should be some options on the burn window
of the software you are using.
Try setting the burn speed to a lower speed.
It may be you are using CD's that are rated lower speed
than the maximum speed of the drive.

Hi,

Recently, my CD/DVD burner has stopped working, and I have no idea why.

I have a Sony VAIO laptop (model VGN-FW11E) running Windows Vista . I am able to rip my CD's and play them in itunes etc, but I cannot burn discs. I have tried burning data using Windows explorer. It appears to run successfully and afterwards i 'close session'. When i eject the CD and put it back in the computer, an autorun popup asks me what to do with the blanc disk, and when i try to view the disc contents, it appears to be empty.

I have tried burning an Audio CD using Windows media player and nero. With WMP, it runs ok for the first track or two, then just says an unknown error has occurred.

Is there anything I can try to help diagnose where the problem is?

Thanks

I dont know where to start or what other info you all might need to help me but I will start out with the basic stuff. I am on Windows XP SP2 and I am having problems with my DVD Burner drive that came with my eMachines T6534 (TSSTCorp CD/DVDW TS-H552D).

Basically, it will not burn anything at all!! I cant give you an exact date that this stopped working but I burned something about 2 months ago so I know it used to work. it reads fine but no burning capability. Pleaseee help!! before I send it to emachines....

Thanks in advance. What other info do you neeed?

At first, I thought it was the ASPI cause they were corrupted according to Nero Info Check but I replaced them with 4.60 using KillASPI etc and I have both system and NERO Aspi properly installed.

For eg. when I put something to burn in nero, it starts to spin a lot for about 20 seconds then it just stops and I get an error "Write error". I noticed the buffer level is at 9% before the write error comes up. Any suggestions?? It will be GREATLY appreciated.

Okay, so today I tried to burn a DVD data disc, on a DVD-R. When I pushed burn, it said the drive did not recognize the disc and to insert another disc, but it did say the disc was a DVD-R. Confused, I opened the drive and tried again, and it burned the disc, so I thought nothing of it. However, when I tried to burn a disc later on, the problem happened again, and this time, it would not go away. So, I click on My Computer to check out the drive and for some odd reason, the drive says the Disc is a CD, not DVD. And usually when I stick in a blank DVD, explorer pops up asking me what I'd like to do with the disc, but it's no longer popping up. So, thinking there's a driver problem, I uninstalled the drive and then restarted the computer and reinstalled it. And again, when I went to go burn the disc in Nero 6, again it is telling me to insert another disc. I have NEVER had this problem before and I have always used DVD-Rs to backup my files. I have alot of files on my computer and I have no idea what to do. I need to backup these files to save space on my hardrive. Please help, I'm desperate!!!

A:Need Immediate Help!!! DVD Burner Not Working!!!

Try a DVD+Rw and see what it says......also if you have Nero on disk uninstall it and re-install it.

Depending how old the drive is it could be going faulty on the DVD side.

Is this problem just with CD Creator 5? You should test it on another burning software also. If It does not work on both programs, it is most likely a driver problem.

Hello

This is my first post here, and I suscribed specifically to address this issue... I boght a new Asus laptop a few months ago. I had used its DVD burner to burn one DVD, and it worked well, but then yesterday, I attempted to burn a CD, both in windows and in Linux, with various programs, and the result was always the same: The program would go through the motions, report the cd complete, and the CD would remain blank (and usable), just as if I had simulated burning, but every time I checked this was not the case. Any ideas?

I've been writing about various problems with this (below) and trying different things, and as of tonight (Thursday almost 10 PM) the thing seems to be working.

I uninstalled and installed and at one point it was saying it wasn't being detected, so I checked and the plug (in the adaptor, which is part way down the power cord) wasn't in tight. Though it had been in okay when I started.

So, once that was fixed, the software I reinstalled and downloads and upgrades, etc. must have kicked in.

So, the good part is, it seems to be working and doing what it's supposed to do.

The scary part is, I have no idea why

And, sometimes something simple and obvious is what's messing the whole thing up.

It's been a long, cold, "nothing seemed to work right" day, and I'm glad it's almost over!

I would put in a disc and it would say "error:this disc is not of a fomat windows can read" and the same thing would happen in any program that used the windows explorer to open files. Queeve,

I have a similar problem with a trial version of DvdXCopy, which resulted in the disappearing of my CD-RW and DVD-RW on my WinXP OS. Both drives show up in the system hardware line up, but they have the dreaded yellow exclamation marks. This just happened to me last night and I'm at work today and have been directed to the Microsoft site at this address:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320553&Product=winxp

To find your exact problem this maybe a good place to start. I will attempt this solution tomorrow when I get home (I'm a firefighter on a 24 hour shift). Hopefully this will solve my problem and maybe yours. Please post any fixes that you may find.

Good luck,

Make sure they are:

Secondary Master DVD Burner #1 (Master)
Secondary Slave DVD Burner #2 (Slave)
don't use CS stuff on neither. Make sure you have enough PSU power.

Maker sure the ribbon is setup correctly too? ]ide2[--------------[secondary slave]---------[secondary master]

By chance who makes your burners? You should be able to pop out that disc using a paper clip just and fold one and stick it into the tiny hole on the front of the burner for the PC.

Hey Friends,

I have a dell inspiron 537s running windows 7 home premium (64bit). My plds dvd+-rw dh-16aas drive is not working and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I have had the computer since January and it used to work but now it has stopped. Just to be clear, it still reads CDs but it won't burn them. When I try to burn it just revs up then down then up and back down for several minutes then fails. I have reinstalled the firmware and tried multiple different burning methods (Roxio, some free software I found, and the basic windows os burning software). All have ended in the same result.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks,

Not sure which topic this is....

if it's the software, hardware (burner) or maybe WINDOWS. I have WIN 98 SE

I was getting error messages before, off and on, but could usually retry and use a lower speed, and it would work.

Past few days it's been stopping and error message coming up everytime I try and use it.

It's a HP CD WRITER-PLUS 8200 external. I've had it around 1 1/2 years, and I know- it's not expensive, but was all I could get at the time.

(I can see why people like to buy new and better stuff, it's frustrating to use old, slow and not working good)

I'm thinking maybe it's just old and "had it". Same with my computer, which I've had for several years, and only has 64 MB RAm. I have 1.25 gb free hd space (8 gb in all)

But, there might be something I haven't thought of or don't know about. And not sure if it's the cd burner OR the computer. I keep thinking if I try it again it will work (the way computer stuff sometimes does) but didn't the past two days. One day I spend several hours trying it over and over, at different speeds and only one file at a time.

I mainly use it to make cds of my photos, to back them up.

An error message comes up, sometimes one that says there's an error and to "clean the disk" (they are brand new and I've used them before, and they worked. Even used some from this same package) use a lower speed (I've tried it at 1X) or insert a ne... Read more

MY CD Burner was working until recently. Now it acts like it is copying and when I click on my computer to view the files on the CD they appear there but when I put them into different CD players they all indicate that there are 0 files on the disc. Also, while I-Tunes and Roxio seem to go through the steps of copying, the CD no longer ejects when done and I don't hear the louder recording sounds I used to hear when I burned a CD. I have tried two different types of Memorex CD - a CD-RW and a CD-R as well as a Staples CD-RW. What should I try next? Thanks!

First post your exact specs so we know what we are trying to fix.

Next have you reseated the pw and data connectors for the drive?

Optical drives do not last forever; have you swapped in a known working drive to test?

Okay, here it is, about a week ago i started using my Cd Burner to burn some Cd's. It worked for about three of them, and then i started to get some error messages. I have my burner on my other computer which is a 2000 dell and it's a Memorex 52 x max burner. I also am using Nero 5 burning software. I didn't update it yet, because i don't have online access downstairs. I also use the burner as a cd-rom and i disconnected my original cd-rom, which doesn't work anyway. I have re-installed the nero software endlessly, but that isn't the problem. Atleast i don't think it is. I opened and took out the data cable all together that the old cd-rom was using, and just connected the ide data cable that came with the burner from the burner to the secondary ide connector. Now, it works as a cd-rom, but the burner still doesn't work except nero's drivespeed test does detect it. I have three analog connectors, and the sound card is on the main board too. I wasn't sure where to connect it because they all look the same. One is black, green, and grey. Originally, the cd-rom atapi drive was connected to the first (black)one. So, i connected the burner to the 2nd (green)one, and this was like 2 or 3 years ago when i first installed my burner and everything was working fine. Also, those chords are the same chords on both cd-rom drives i think it's just so the drive can read the audio files and play them. I would think that the burner would ... Read more

A:CD Burner is not working right!!

no the cd doesnt have to be connected for the cdrw to work
the ide cable should be connecte if on the same one as the hard drive as the hard drive set as master and the CDRW set as slave, if the CDRW is connected on its own to the second IDE cabe it can be connected as master (check the jumpers on the CDRW)

When I tried to play a disc in the dvd player nothing happened, so I checked in Device Manager and the dvd had a yellow triangle on it, so I uninstalled it then restarted the computer. There was no change so I checked the error report and found this,
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
I opened regedit and went to {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, there was a lower listed but not an upper.
I restarted the computer but the DVD still is not working.
What do I do next?

I rang microsoft and asked (expected) them to fix this
they did
because in fact I owned it and it was working prior to my update to windows 10
most annoying
some blogs suggest its because windows expects you to have an xbox
Im no techy
yet this is my fix

For a while now i haven't been able to burn cds (of any kind, music, files etc.), and its been fine till now when i really need to put a simple file on a disk for my aunt... ok so i have tried every kind of disk at staples haha, and nothing works. most of the time my drive doesnt even recognise theres a disk in there, but when it does, it just makes this noise forever and i can't do anything with it. i'm pretty sure its just my cd drive thats screwed up, but if anyone knows what i can do to possibly solve this it would be much appreciated!
I have XP, and its a CDRW drive (not DVD-R). I can play cds and dvds on it fine, its just the burning thats the problem. Thanks so much!

I'd start by making sure that the cables are seated properly. You could also delete it from device manager, reboot and let it be discovered again, that sometimes sets them straight.

HP 15-f014wm Notebook PC Product #  J2X64UA#ABA Back in October of last year I had to have my disc drive replaced with a new one( was still under warranty) it worked for a while say about 3 months and then it just quit recognizing CD's and DVD's, then it got to where it would recognize CD's and not DVD's. Now it just recognizes DVD's but it will not ABSOLUTELY burn NOTHING !!!!  My device manager says that the driver is up to date and says that it is working properly, NOT !!!!! My hardware for my disc drive is :  hp DVDRW GUB0N.  My question is, is this driver obselete ? Because when I look it up on Google sites for it are in RED and not to be trusted through Norton (which is what I have as security).   Can someone PLEASE help me in this matter  !!!!!!

A:DVD Burner Not Working

The driver is not the issue. There is no driver you need to install. It is built into a very basic level of Windows unlike other device drivers. That is why sites that claim to have a driver for it are suspect because what they really have is malware. So, the problem is either Windows itself or the device. You can check the device independent of Windows by trying to boot from the DVD drive using a bootable CD or DVD disk.

I have uninstalled factory programmed nero and updated to nero 7 premium and still no dice.

My problem is every time I try to burn a cd, the burn process gets to 7 % and stops. I f not there, it goes all the way to 98 % and stops. Either way, I cannot seem to successfully burn anything currently. Could this be virus related or do I just need some type of lens cleaner?
