I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, well there is an error (0*c0000005) which pops up every time i try to install a new app and also pop up on regular basis for a antivirus program i use. so i go through sfc scan to deal with this. sfc scan shows the
following result :  "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."
so i go to the SFC details to check the corrupted files and i found multiple files which says:
1) cannot repair member file
2) could not reproject corrupted files
On the end of both these lines following text was written: "Hash mismatch"
what should i do now?
Somebody help please!

Hi!

I just found this forum and registered to join this community and further participate in it! Seems pretty big... ;)

Anyway, I have quite a problem in my PC that is *literally* taking sleep time from me. The thing is that files randomly get corrupted! Let me explain...

Some time ago (a month aprox.) I detected that the Linux ISOs I downloaded from BitTorrent (using latest uTorrent client) downloaded corrupted. I.E.; the file would complete OK, and then, let's say it was a RARed file, when unpacking it would give a 'CRC error' on it. After some days, I tried going back to uTorrent and 'forcing a recheck'; then it would rehash the file, and the 100% file from before would be completed to 99.7% (for example) now. Redownload; file unpacked OK.

That was the first stage. All these images I downloaded I had to do the same for them. No big deal (for now), until I reformat again and I thought it would fix by a fresh installation of Windows.

Now, the real problem here began when I copied an Acronis True Image .TIB file from my laptop to my desktop, via ethernet cable. I copied it, burned it on a DVD (in my desktop), and then found that ImgBurn would fail the Verify stage. I said..: 'well... it SHOULD still work.'. Then, I went to Verify the image (file) with built-in Acronis verify function. Guess what? It failed that verification too! The files was corrupted! First gross check I did, the file has the same bytes size in the laptop, desktop and DVD. (At that stage, I d... Read more

A:Files get randomly CORRUPTED! Hash mismatch, but they *mostly* work. Advanced tests

HI again.

An update... I changed the mobo to a Soyo 6VBA133. The memtest program was giving random errors (sometimes completed OK, sometimes with errors), and so I changed the mobo plus I bought all new memory modules. Here's the thing: it's still the same. Errors come in memory with Memtest86.

Prior to changing the motherboard I left running Prime95 for 24 hours without a hitch, so I'm assuming that the processor is OK too.

Oh, and I also bought a brand new ATX power source.

Men... I just have no words for this.

Please help, thanks

OMG, I have so many questions that are killing me! and mostly they are related to mp3's! Please answer these if you have enough knowledge!

1. If I download music (by payment) on the internet, can I choose which format/bitrate I want it in? And can I choose lossless .wav format? I don't buy music online.

2. What are these numbers followed by the word Hash? What are these things?

3. What are these things - when I check the properties of an mp3 in it's comments/description tag, I often see numbers and letters in groups like this: http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/1835/commentsordescriptionxx6.jpg

Whatever you're posting upstairs, it most definitely is NOT the MS DL, NOR the Zuko numbers.

It sounds like you created a "hash" from the single file 'install.wim' (maybe from Zukona) and you're comparing those numbers with the full DL .iso files....

You gotta go back to square-one and decide which numbers you're posting, and what they are for...

These are the numbers you need:

My AVG free takes almost 2 hrs to run so I'd like to download the new version hoping it'll be faster. The explanation tells me to check the MD5 hash value and I found a download to do this. But I"m not sure what I'm doing. It says to download digestIT 2004 and then calculate the hash value. I'm not sure how to do that and where tofind this info. Shd I be doing this on every download? I've never heard of it but it sounds like a good thing. Any advice?

A:How to check MD5 hash value

First, download the MD5 Program (very small download, and it is zipped so you will have to extract the executable from this download). Put it some place easy like "C:\"

Open the command prompt by pressing the Windows key + R (or start > run) and type cmd in the prompt that loads.

In the command prompt window type something similar to below (what you type will depend on where your download is, and where you have stored the md5 executable)

First, change directory to whatever directory you put the md5 exe in (e.g. cd c:\ if you put it where I suggested)

Second, run it by typing md5sums "c:\whatever\directory\your\download-is-in.exe" It will process the command it give you a long string of letters and numbers which should match the one the download had on it's site.

All this will do, is tell you if your download completed successfully, or if it is corrupt.

Hi,
I use Netscape Navigator 4.78 from time to time and recently noticed a goodly amount of "hash" files in the program folder. There are 545 files numbered in hex as hash255025 - hashd69855. Each of these files is 61 Kb in size and a hex edit reveals maybe they are involved in certificate ID or maybe security? Are these for SSI or CGI use? I have moved them out of the program folder into a holding folder and see no degredation in performance, but I am not much of a Netscape user so perhaps I missed something.

Does anyone know the reason for these files?
I am running Win98 with a P III.

A:Hash files in Netscape 4.78

rog624,

I don't know anything about "Hash" files, but I did find the following here. I hope it helps.
Why do I have hash files all over my desktop?
A bug in earlier versions of Netscape (mainly 4.0x) causes it to 'dump' the contents of its security database. When Windows finds these files, it stores them as hash files on your desktop. You may see the name "Thawte" because this database contains the Thawte CA root keys. The solution is to install a newer version. You can then delete the hash files, which should not reappear.

Method 1:

Perform a clean boot.
Note: If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. It is strongly recommend that you do not use the System Configuration utility to modify the advanced boot options on the computer unless a Microsoft support engineer directs you to do this. Doing this may make the computer unusable. 1. Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
2. Click Start, type "msconfig" in the Start Search box or Run command, and then press enter to start the System Configuration Utility. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.
3. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)
4. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
Note Following this step lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.

hey there, so basically ill get straight down to it,

Code:
For p = 1 To 5
For i = 1 To Len(password1)
password1 = Chr(Asc(Mid(password1, i, 1)) + 3)
Next i
Next p
but it doesn't

thx a lot

A:Vb.net help plz. beginners attempt to hash

Although I'm not familiar with the particular language you're writing in, I've debugged lots of similar problems simply by inserting some code to "audit" whatever's going on. For instance, at each step of the above, display or (preferably) print out:
p= (value of p)
i= (value of i)
password1= (value)
Mid(password1, i, 1)= (value)
Asc(Mid(password1, i, 1))= (value)
Chr(Asc(Mid(password1, i, 1)) + 3)= (value)

I suspect that your code, as written, is replacing the string password1 with the single character Chr(Asc(Mid(password1, i, 1)) + 3) -- which, after the first such replacement, would presumably be null for any i > 1. An audit run like the above would tell you if that's the case or not.

Try leaving password1 unchanged while you store your new result in something like password2.

I tried to tell them that I have a hash code, none knew what that was at all! I told them i understand I just need to provide proof of ownership (which I was ready and willing to do) and a Hash Code, they said they never heard of this method and I must send it in to a service center.

All of them told me to remove the CMOS battery. I insisted that won't work in a laptop, and they insisted it would work (They all insisted!). One of them even sent me a manual to disassemble my laptop! This model requires complete disassembly and removal of the mainboard to get to the CMOS battery (it's located on the bottom side of the motherboard and there are no openings in the casing so you have to completely remove the motherboard). This is crazy advice to give to an average home user!

Vista 64. Just a quick question on this. I've been seeing this error in my event viewer for a few days. My system boots fine, but I'm still seeing this. Should I be worried about it? I ran a SFC scan, but I still get this in event viewer. Nothing is showing up in my reg cleaner or anything else. System is now clean of spyware and viruses.

Code integrity determined that the image hash of a file is not valid. The file could be corrupt due to unauthorized modification or the invalid hash could indicate a potential disk device error.

File Name: \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Windows\System32\wininet.dll

I don't have a Vista disc to repair from, just restore on a different drive on my system. Should I even do anything about this error?

A:Wininet.dll Invalid Hash

Carrigon
If you are not having problems, there is no need for concern. That DLL helps with the internet. If you are working properly do not worry about the error of DLL. It may be caused by a small error in the registry, which CAN be caused by reg cleaners. If you want my suggestions for maintenance, just ask. I can tell you reg cleaners are not on it and not needed for Vista.

Now the bad news
Many virus disguise themselves as winnet.dll.
Make a full antivirus scan. Update
Donwload and make a full scan with malwarebytes
Make a full scan with eset online scanner, no need to download.

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community! Obeya wrote:Why is the hash key giving me the pound sign?Warm regardsAndyI'm a little confused by your question.  "hash key"? Do you mean as in "hashtag"?   It is a "pound symbol" (or number sign, or even "octothorpe").  They are all the same thing. #wikipediaLink Unless you reside in the UK where the "pound sign" is their sign for currency:       Perhaps your keyboard is set to a different region?  Check it by going to the Control Panel/Region & Language. WyreNut

I can hear the hash when I pick up the phone. I am using my phone line to hook to the internet and for my e-mail. I also hear the hash in the built in PC speaker, but not on my external speakers. checked volumn controls, checked modem speaker box it is checked and volumn at max. The speakers work fine but I cannot hear the dialing hash. Can you give me any suggestions as to what is should do.

Thanks
Herb

A:Can't hear internet hash during dialing

i had a compaq do the same thing. would dial from the computer and the speakers were quiet.

BUT, the speakers worked fine. If you are getting connected. I would not worry about it too much.

A:Verify Hash.. Am I doing it correctly, cause this doesnt seem right

The last VT link you posted is not for an AVG executable. In VT, open the "File detail" tab and look at the digital signatures.
The first 2 VT links you posted are executables signed by AVG Technologies CZ.
The last one is signed by Free Sky Business LP, for a product they call exeGuard.

Hi everyone, i'm new and desperate for help

I'm using Windows XP SP2 and have a real problem with the tilde/hash key; everytime i press this key it automatically shuts down Window's

I've uninstalled the keyboard a couple of times and have looked everywhere on the net for an answer but cannot find one. Has anybody else come across this problem - if so can you help me as i'm unable to use the in-game console for Morrowind or do any typing using this key until this problem is fixed.

Many thanks.

A:tilde/hash key keeps shutting down Windows!

Reinstalling the keyboard won't do any good. Sounds like someone mapped a keyboard shortcut to shutdown the computer. How you would go about finding the keyboard shortcut that's causing you grief is beyond me, though.

Sorry.

This problem has just come up recently. Multiple green pixels appear in a rectangular pattern, and they go away when I minimize the window. However, sometimes they do not. An example of one is attached below.

It shows up primarily on my Mozilla Firefox. It has on one occasion shown up on my word processor. At first I thought it was a stuck pixel. But I was under the impression that a stuck pixel stays on the screen and will not go away. This goes away after changing the window size. Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks.

We are getting a Pass the Hash warning for two users (only one has happened more than once) that I am pretty sure is a false positive.  The message says the hash was stolen from one computer that the user logged into and was used by the same user on
her desktop.

I am guessing an app is doing something weird or something but cant pinpoint it.  Anything i can do to try to track it down?

Identity theft using pass-the-hash attack

Savannah ***** (*****)'s hash was stolen from one of the computers previously logged into by Savannah ******   (************) and used from DT-S*******.

Hi guys,

I have a home server running Windows 7 x64. Over time I notice sometimes files can silently corrupt themselves. These include distortions in audio files, skips in video, and partially blanked-out or unreadable images.

Recently an important photo from a long time ago was lost due to this, so I'm trying to prevent any further such event.

Microsoft's FCIV only works on per-file basis, more suited for checking downloads and not keeping a database of file integrity hashes. Can someone recommend a program that will do this please?

Apologies, but I don't have an app for you, rather just curious about the issue itself.

Files just don't simply get corrupted because of age or time. As you know, file corruption can occur if the storage media fails or is damaged; if an error occurs during file transmission (copying or moving); software issues (infection, bugs, etc...).

Do you mean that a portion of a file is simply missing/erased -- like there is a "gap" in it?

If a file has changed in the manner in which you describe, I would expect CRC errors.

Cyclic redundancy check

Have you repeatedly copied these files from system to system or used a back-up app to copy them to an external drive, DVDs or other media?

I found loads of junk and useless info on this topic, then came across this link:

KBAlertz.com: The SFC.exe command reports Settings.ini file errors in the CBS.log file after you add gadgets to the Windows Vista Sidebar by using the Sysprep tool and an Autounattend.xml file

I post this so others don't waste a bunch of time on this. I even deleted and recreated the file before finding this info. Waste of time. Thanks, Microsoft.

Here is the gist of it.

SYMPTOMS

You use the System Preparation (Sysprep) tool and an Autounattend.xml file to add a custom gadget to the Windows Sidebar in Windows Vista. When you run the SFC.exe /scannow command or the SFC.exe /verifyonly command, you receive error messages in the CBS.log file. Back to the top

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the SFC.exe command falsely reports the Settings.ini file information in the CBS.log file.Back to the top

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.Back to the top

MORE INFORMATION

You can safely ignore the error messages in the CBS.log file. The SFC.exe command falsely reports the Settings.ini file information in the CBS.log file.

You may receive error messages that resemble the following in the CBS.log file.

Note The CBS.log file is located in the %SystemRoot%\Logs\CBS folder.

We are currently in monitor mode with ATA and have been receiving alerts since going live on Sunday 10/20.   The alert says the users hash is being passed from an unknown system to the system that is used by the owner of the hash that is being
passed. I am not sure why it is identifying an unknown system and saying the system is passing a hash to the users legitimate system.

Should we respond to alerts that are generated during the 30 day monitoring period or should they be ignored until that period is completed?

Hello colleagues,
Please help me! I have this little annoying problem. When I want to log the user in using PHP and MySQL everything goes OK, using plain text as password. The thing is, that I want the passwords my users enter into the MySQL database to be md5 hash encrypted so that if any evil user break into the database he wouldn't be able to see the passwords.

So long story short, here is the code, and please tell me what I have done wrong and why the user can't log in using the md5 hash even tho they can register and the MySQL database receives the passwords md5 hashed.

Script:

// Registration process file

$con mysql_connect("localhost","root","");
