explorer email copying itself

Q: explorer email copying itself

My neighbors just returned from a three month trip, booted up their Gateway, and found Explorer email is making multiple copies of email messages. I tried to delete them from over 300 stored at their ISP and finally got down to 60 unread emails. Each time I hit receive first 42 come in freezes on 43, I delete first 42 in both locations, restart frozen mail program and the 42 deleted messages are there again. Any suggestions will be appreciated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I used to be able to use the Print Screen key and directly Ctrl V the screenshot into my email (not having to use the Paint program). However, I just recently noticed that when attempting to paste into an email, nothing gets pasted, although if I go through my Paint program, the screenshot is saved and can be displayed through that. Why would this change? What can I do to again directly copy the screenshot into my email?

I use Outlook Express 6 as my email client. I receive many emails containing graphics and formatted text that I would like to tweak a little, before forwarding them. I KNOW that I can edit text and delete some elements but I also know that things like the length are very hard to change. I also know that the format controls are locked into the CODE that is exposed when the SOURCE tab is clicked. Short of doing a course in HTML, I believe I can learn some basics about email source code, by tweaking it and seeing the results. But to document what has been tweaked, I should ideally be able to copy the source code UNCHANGED-by-the-copy-process into e.g. WORD or a Rich-Text-Format editor. I have not found any editor that I can paste source code into and have the copy look identical to the original. I thought FrontPage might do the trick, but it wont open EML. Is there a way of doing what I want to do ?

You need to view the source of the message via the message properties which can be done by right clicking message in the listing above the viewing pain.

Hi asharif

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Outlook 2000 uses a .pst file.

Do a Search for .pst and copy the .pst file to your new laptop.
You might check the C:\Windows directory first for your .pst file.

Outlook 2000 will also need to be installed on the new laptop to Import the information over to Outlook Express.

Once you copy over the .pst file to the new laptop, verify the .pst file is not marked Read-only, then open it with Outlook 2000.
Start Outlook Express,
File > Import Messages > Microsoft Outlook

Let us know if that works for you or not.

PST file corruption is the reason of this. Your PST may get corrupted due to various known and unknown reasons. Despite going in details about reasons behind corruption I would like to tell you the solution.
If you have a backup copy of PST file (created when the problem was not occurring), restore it. I will add that it will result in loss of important emails.
If backup copy is not available or you do not want  to lose your important emails, try to repair your PST file using a PST repair Software.
Many PST repair software are available from third party vendors, but only some are useful. SO while selecting a software make sure that it is from a certified vendor as well as software must provide a demo version to test the working of software in real world.

You can do some research on Google to get a good software. If you find that boring, reply here I will tell you about some good software.

Hope it will help.

If I have a second computer and copy the .pst file from one computer to the other, I know that when I open Outlook all the existing emails will be there, calendar, etc. But if I have Outlook set to leave messages on the server, will the old messages be downloaded causing duplicates? I know that Outlook keeps an ID record of emails that are downloaded - but is this kept within the *pst file? If so then it should work that I can copy the *pst file and carry on without duplicates. I can understand that if I created a new blank account with nothing in it, then the old files would download...but will this still happen if I just copy & paste the email *pst account file across (keeping the name the same) - same Office 365....

I have an odd issue in Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

If I use Explorer to copy an MP3 file over a certain size (about 20MB) it will fail and essentially seize the resources of the machine. I have to do a hard reboot by turning the machine off.

This doesn't seem to affect other large files. I can copy huge PDFs and images (100MB and so forth) without problem.

It does not matter how I copy the file. I can right click and copy. I can drag it to another folder. I can right click, Copy and paste to the same folder.

Now usually the file *will* actually get copied but what happens is that the copy progress dialog appears and says it is still copying. Waiting does not help. Cancelling does not help.

I can't show a screen shot because when this occurs resources are seized and I can't actually get a screen shot. The computer is not actually locked up. I can click around but it may take minutes to switch windows and pulling up task manager is impossible.

It isn't about the file extension either. I can change the file extension to nonsense or anything and I get the same problem. Be aware that I have copied these files before to backup drives or to a phone connected via USB. (The same problem occurs trying to copy to those devices as well.) These files are *not* in one of Windows special folders.

The folders as far as I can tell have no interesting attributes and I don't think the files do either. However, please feel free to question that conclusion.

A:Copying MP3 over a certain size (~20MB) fails in explorer.

Has this always been true for those particular files---was there a time when they would copy OK?

Does this apply to ALL mp3s you have ripped above a certain size?

If you were to get a 40 mb mp3 from the net or a friend, would you expect it to copy?

If you convert a problem file to WAV and then back to mp3, does the problem persist?

Were all the rips done with the same ripper?

Does this affect moving also---or just copying?

Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum and am glad I found you guys, because we have a strange problem in windows 7 windows explorer. This is what we tried to do.

1. We have a folder with many files with different extensions (*.wav, *.mp3 and *.sib). We want to separate them all in separate folders by type.
2. We created a subfolder for the wav files. When moving the wav files into this folder, their names still appear in the original folder. So we thought we had made a copy instead of moving it.
3. But then when we deleted the wav it was deleted in both places, as if they are pointing to the same file. Very strange. Even if we inadvertently created a shortcut, deleting the shortcut should not delete the file, right?
4. So we copied everything in a different folder with a different name. Did the same as above - no problem, everything worked fine. We could delete files in one directory and not in the other.
5. The next step was to delete the offending directory completely and then renaming the copy to the old name
6. Guess what -- the problem returned. What the heck?!

Anybody have any idea what is going on? The directory is part of a larger structure that has a certain naming convention so we'd like to be able to use the original name to preserve the logic of the structure. Why is this problem connected to the name of the folder?

As far as we can tell the problem does not occur with the *.mp3 or *.sib files. It must have something to do with the *.wav extension, but why only... Read more

A:Windows Explorer problem with copying wav files

It sounds like you created a "Shortcut" in the second folder instead of doing a "Copy". When you deleted the .wav in the first folder, the "shortcut" was also deleted. If you need to get the ones you deleted back, go into the "Recycle Bin" and it should still be there. If you want the files to be moved from the first folder to the second folder and not show in the first folder, use the "Cut" command.

Hello,

I am trying to get all of my 'old' MP3 files (napster era) off of the DVDs I have them burned on. However, Windows Explorer is hanging when it tries to copy them.

They are visible in the Windows Explorer view, but when I try and click and drag them all over to my HDD, they either freeze or take forever (over 10 minutes) to copy. This has happened on all of the 20 or so discs I have copied thus far, some of which were just document files, and each has met with its own difficulty in copying.

Is there something that would cause this in Windows Explorer that I can fix? Is there a way to use something other than Windows Explorer to copy the contents of these DVD-Rs to my hard drive? Is there a Windows Explorer alternative that I should consider using?

Thanks for any help you can give; I appreciate your assistance!

P.S. What is basically happening is that Windows Explorer is encountering a file that it cannot read and, rather than telling me right away and just moving on, it takes about 5 minutes to analyze it. Then, when I tell it to skip that file and any like it, it will say there is 60 seconds remaining, but then hang for 5 minutes or more. How can I get a more efficiently working Windows Explorer / file management application? Thanks!

A:Windows Explorer hangs when copying files from DVD-R

Hello JuanAntonio, welcome to SF!

It sounds like these are old discs? If so there a couple of things you can do.

1. Clean those discs first. Strange maybe but what helps sometimes is using a little toothpaste, put on disc, use clean cloth to move from center outward (not in circles). Clean well and try again.
Or try something like Digital Innovations

2. use cloning software that you can tell how to proceed on bad reads. There are many examples for that, one is SlySoft CloneCD | clone cd, backup cd, cd copy, copy music cd, copy navigation cd, copy protected cd, safe disc

3. If you really need the best read... use good DVD/CD player hardware. Lots to google on that if you are up to it. But you wouldn't be the first with an "unreadable" disk that was wholly readable in a friends system with a better CDplayer....

This one is weird and occurs on every computer I've tried. I have a dvd with files that I am copying to my harddrive (.vob). The first time I copy them everything is fine. However, when I try it again with a different DVD (same type of files) Explorer freezes up, becomes unresponsive, and/or tells me the files cannot be accessed. I've done this with 4 different computers. They all allow the copying of the files one time and then have the same failures from that point on. I've restarted the computers. I've shut them all the way down. I've created new accounts and tried it. All to no avail.

Hi all. Long time reader just signed up.

I'm having a very strange problem when trying to copy a zip file from one drive to another. I get "Windows Explorer has stopped responding" when trying to copy a zip file (I have WinRAR x64 installed). However, if I go into cmd and rename the ***.zip to ***.pih (or any other unidentified file extension) it copies no problem, and then I can rename it back to .zip and all is fine.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I can get round it by renaming in cmd, but it's a bit of a pain.

Thanks in advance

A:Windows Explorer Stopped working when copying a zip file.

What size is the file? Does it happen with all .zip files? What type drives are involved in the Copy or Move process? WinRAR shouldn't be involved when it's only a file stored on a drive but you might try uninstalling WinRAR as a test. If that proves to be the issue might try 7-Zip or Zipeg, both free.

I have been noticing randomly delay or lag in my Windows Explorer whenever I do operations such as create new folder or files, copy/paste files, or rename files.

By lag, what I mean is that lets say I rename a file from "File A" to File B", I don't see the change in the file name instantaneously. It takes few seconds I have to press F5 to refresh the window to actually see the changes.
I am running on Windows 8.1

A:Lag/Delay in Explorer when Renaming Copying Creating Files

I joined the forum to bring up the same complaint.

I 'upgraded' last week, from Win 7 HP sp1(different laptop) and from win 8 to 8.1 (this laptop via Windows Store).

Superfetch and indexing are not turned off. Accessing files in various devices seem to take forever compared to win 7.

Yesterday, I spent some time using the file explorer to rename and organize files on an external hard drive. Soon enough, the system came grinding to a slow crawl. Bringing up task manager took 'forever'. Eventually, it showed the explorer utilizing over 2GB of memory (6GB total in system). After closing the explorer window, the memory was not released. I had to restart explorer.exe to release the memory. Once I replicated the event, I began to wonder if this is unique to my machine or inherent in the OS.

I generally use XNView as my file manager. But, it wasn't performing as well as it should, or as well as it had been with Win 7. That's why I tried to bypass the middle man in XNView.

With Win 7, the external devices spin down after time has passed. There would always be lag while the accessed device spin up. With Win 8.1, the spin down seemed to be next to no time passing. I spend 5 to 10 seconds being careful in what I'm doing with the files, I have to deal with the lag before the action takes effect.

In summary, there is the explorer 'memory leak?' and the quick spin down of external devices, both affecting the performance of the file explorer.

Hi there,

Can someone tell me why Windows Explorer is so darn slow copying exe files from a network drive. Using a command prompt it only takes about a second, but it takes close to forever and a half when I use Windows Explorer.

I should mention that this only happens to .exe files, other files copy fast. I found this to happen on 3 different machines. It does not seem to be a firewall, ant-spyware or anti-virus issue, but who knows...

Hi All,

I am currently using Win7 Pro SP1 32-Bit and am having an issue with the following:

Windows Explorer immediately closes down after copying/pasting files to a USB Stick or a CD/DVD. If I have to copy multiple files to multiple folders, I have to re-open Windows Explorer and drill down to the removable media, which is still plugged in or in the CD/DVD drive as many times as necessary. A search in these forums directed me to a post that did not help.

Is there any type of fix for this issue? Neither Windows 8 or Win XP do this.

Cheers,
Mike T.

There is a tutorial here on adding "copy to" and/or "move to" to the right click context menu. Works like a charm, use it all the time including to Usb stick and from CD's.

Hi everyone. I have looked all over the internet for a solution to this and I just cant seem to find anyone with the same issue so I figured I'd try here.

I just put together a new build. It is a follows.
GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H
GIGABYTE GN-WP01GS-E 802.11b/g wireless card
Western Digital SATA 640GB
4GB (2x2gb) RAM
Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
D-LINK DGL-4300 Router (firmware 1.9)

I installed the OS and loaded all the patches. All the drivers are showing as up to date when using the "update driver" option from the device manager and when I manually verify the driver dates.

I have three PCs... A = XP PC connected to my network wireless. B = XP PC connected to my PC via LAN cable. C = Vista x64 PC.

Whenever I try to copy a file greater than about 100 meg from the Vista x64 PC to either A or B using a wireless connection, Vista CRASHES. It crashes almost instantly and I never get any sort of progress indicator. It's so bad, the mouse freezes, and nothing responds. I have to reboot the PC to recover. If I plug in the WIRED connection, I can copy files of any size to either PC with no problems. As an added wrinkle, I can use the vista PC with the WIRELESS connection and pull large files FROM PC A or B with no problems. The only issue arises when I try to push a file from Vista to either XP pc using a wireless connection. The only thing I have not tried is creating a share on the VISTA PC and then push files there from the XP boxes. I guess I could try this, but I'm not... Read more

When I try to cut, copy, paste or delete files using hotkeys, right-click, drag-n-drop or a wizard, in explorer or otherwise, such as FreeCommander, the program doing the cutting and whatnot freezes. The only exceptions are TeraCopy and the console. It also happens when I hit win+E and when I right click on anything in Explorer. Security Center is also reporting Avast! as off, when in the system tray, running the UI and in ProcessExplorer, it's clearly on and functioning,

When it first happened, I just opened ProcessExplorer (I have it set to hijack the normal task manager) and restarted explorer.exe. When that didn't do it, I deleted explorer.exe, restarted and expanded a fresh copy from the I386 folder in WINDOWS. That didn't do it, so I ran avast!, spybot, and when those did nothing, RegSeeker. After these, I downloaded the few hotfixes from Microsoft I hadn't and restarted, which did nothing. The only thing I haven't done is a system restore to before it started, which I'm doing now.

I have found an intermittent bug with Dropbox 14.4.19: When I copy some files from my C: drive to a Dropbox folder, then the next time I access a folder on my C: drive, Windows Explorer crashes with that BEX64 thing.

At least, that's what the Event Viewer said, but it didn't give me any more information than that.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Windows 10 Bug Causes Data Loss on Android When Copying Files with File Explorer

A bug in Windows 10 causes files copied from one location to another on a PC-connected Android device to vanish completely if the built-in file manager File Explorer is used for the operation.

The issue affects only files that are being moved or copied from an Android folder or storage device to another location on the same Android phone or tablet using an MTP or PTP USB connection, and doesn?t seem to impact copying data on a Windows 10 PC.

So basically, if you connect an Android device to a Windows 10 PC and try to move files with File Explorer from the phone to an SD card or vice-versa, this will result in your data vanishing completely. The transfer appears to be working, but the files do not end up being moved to the destination folder, with no recovery possible for the time being.

The bug has already been confirmed on Windows 10, with both Windows 7 and Windows 8 working correctly. Also, several Android phones appear to be affected, including OnePlus and LG models, Google?s Nexus and Pixel, HTC U11, Nokia phones, and several Xiaomi and Sony models. On the other hand, Samsung?s and BlackBerry?s devices are working correctly, user reports indicate.

Just copy data to the PC and you?re safe
While Microsoft hasn?t yet acknowledged the bug, the easiest way to avoid any data loss is to create a backup that would allow you to restore files at any given time.

And since the issue ... Read more

Hi,
From your screenshot, each music file might be about 3~5 MB, if we copy many files together, then it will reach the file size limit stored in registry, then we will encounter this issue.

So it worth to increase the value of FileSizeLimitInBytes  stored under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters

Hello,

I have a user thatdoes not have the "Email Recipient" option available under the"Send To" section within Windows Explorer.

My questions is; howdo I reset this option to re-appear?

A:Cannot email from Windows Explorer...

If that user is running Windows 7 (which does not come with a built-in email client), he/she must first install an email client for that option to appear.

If that is not the issue and the send to > mail recipient really is missing, please go here for instructions on how to restore it: Restore missing Mail Recipient entry to the Send To menu in Windows Vista

Hey all,

This is really aggravating me trying to fix this. I've used HijackThis in safe mode, cleaned the entries told to me by the online scannar, then did an up to date virus scan with Ewido (now AVG) as well as with AdAware in safe mode, also used Search & Destroy and cleaned a bunch up. However, my internet connection is still slow, and it's due to explorer.exe (I did a netstat -o to find what process it was associated with). Any ideas how to remove this bugger?

Very often, when I try to open an email in AOL mail, I get a dialog box from Internet Explorer that says "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." After several tries, usually the email will open. Problem seems worse for mails with attachments.
I tried updating to latest version of IExp, didn't seem to help.
See attachment. Never mind, when I tried to attach a picture of the dialog box, it happens again.
Help, Thanks.

New computer with Visat 64 installed. Recently installed Office 07 and this morning discovered a problem I cannot figure out. With Explorer open, I click on File-Send-Link By Email, email does not open and I cannot exit out of Explorer. When you click on the "x" to close Explorer all the computer does is ding. What is going on, this is about to drive me nuts?

UPDATE: Just got off the phone with Dell Tech Spt, they remotely accessed my system and this is what they said: That there was a conflict with the 64 bit and Outlook 07. With Outlook 07 open and Explorer open, the system will allow you to go to Explorer and File-Send-Link By Email, works fine in this case. If Outlook is closed though, Explorer will not open it. Dell said it appears to be a 64 bit conflict.

Has anyone heard of /experienced this? Was the Dell rep correct?

A:Help Please! Email/Explorer Problem.

It works fine on this Vista x64 SP1 machine with Outlook 2007, both from 32-bit and 64-bit IE.

You may have an add-on which is interfering. There are tutorials here on how to clean up IE configuration, and this post of delphin's shows you how to temporarily (as a test) deactivate any non-default Outlook add-ons:

I have a web page which contains some links to email files, saved as .eml files.
When I click one of them Internet explorer opens it as a web page, only text.

What I need is Internet Explorer to open it using Outlook Express, exactly as if the email were in an Outlook Express folder.

What have I do to get it? Thanks in advance.
