I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I am working on an Acer Aspire, Pentium D, Vista, 2GB ram. After about 45 minutes, the screen blanks out. Have to reboot to get it going again. I ran Malwarebytes, it found 19 errors. I thought this might have solved the problem, but no. I also then changed monitors, but the problem is still there. I cleaned out the case, the 2 motors were really clogged up, I thought it might be heat related. Then I ran a memory test and it stopped working again. It has 2 memory chips, I have removed one and am running the memory test again. Am I going in the right direction? Or is there any other ideas?
Thanks

Does anyone know what could be causing this.

This is a 2013 Toshiba Lx835-D325 all-in-one with a 3rd generation Intel i7 CPU. Originally had a 2 TB HDD and takes a 180 watt AC adapter.

The screen shows a "no media found" message for 5 seconds when first engaged by attaching the AC adapter plug, then fades back to a black screen. The power button starts the machine but no display image is revealed unless detaching and then re-attaching the power plug. The power button lights and starts the computer but fails to engage a display image. Could it be the power switch? The small power switch board is shown in the last picture.

Hi all,

I have a windows XP Pro SP2 installed on my Toshiba Satellite L 305-s5955.
Machine details : Intel Celeron, 2GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, 2MB L2 Cache.
My problem is that the welcome screen doesn't show up at startup and windows logs on automatically to Administrator instead of prompting for a user account selection. I checked out microsoft's tips but they were not any help.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=305281
I have a password protected, private, Administrator account with a different name. (i.e. Both default administrator and new administrator account have password protection).

Switching of fast user switching or using the classic logon style didn't solve the problem. How can this be solved?

Thanks

Problem:

When shutting down Outlook express , the option screen to disconnect or stay connected disappears very quickly before you have a chance to click an option.

Dial up stays connected and has to be disconnected manually.(By right clicking icon on task bar and clicking disconnect) If you forget to do this dial up stays connected and ties up phone line.

Yes, I have the disconnect when no longer needed box checked.
I also have the disconnect if idle set to 10 mins.
But we need the option screen to stay up long enough to click an option.

The computer is a Pentium D, 3.0Ghz, 1Gig Ram, 250Gig HDD, Windows Media Center, Video - Radeon X1300, 512Mb

I have been experiencing OE randomly crashing when I click on Create a new Message. What in fact happens is that OE disappears from the screen but remains running in the background. I can see msimn.exe in Task Manager / Processes. The only way around this is to restart the machine.

The machine and memory tested as having no errors at the retailer that it
was purchased from.

I have just done a chkdsk and there were no errors found.

I have tried the following to relieve it:

 Update Windows Media Center
 Deleted the identities and recreated them importing the mail and
address books
 Uninstalled IE7 and reinstalled IE6
o Deleted the identities and recreated them importing the mail and
address books
 Update the computer?s BIOS
 Reformat the HDD and reinstall Media Center
o Reinstall all programs
o Update
? Create the identities and import the mail and address books
? Delete the identities and recreate them without importing the old mail and address books

In spite of all of this, it still randomly crashes when creating a new message

I am hopeful that someone can tell me what?s wrong

Hey there, new here and need some help. Here's what happened:

I opened internet explorer and typed in a google search and hit enter and it popped up a new instance of iexplorer instead of just searching in the current window as usual. Then, links I clicked on opened new windows which is not the usual setting. When I clicked in the middle of text on a web page it would highlight everything. Strange little things like that.

So, I clicked start > Turn Off > Restart and nothing happened; it just went back to the desktop. Pushed the Windows key and it wouldn't open the start menu. Finally I had to do a hard shut-off.

I waited a minute and booted the computer back up when it stopped at the login/password screen as usual. I typed the password and hit the Enter key and it just deleted the password and stayed on the page. So, I retyped it and clicked with the mouse on the green arrow button with the same result. Laptop built in mouse button did the same thing. Eventually it just froze entirely and I could not even type in the password box. Also, the little help icon on this screen would not bring anything up; it's like all the keys got remapped to different functions.

The only recent updates were the automatic Windows updates upon shutdown earlier today and the comp worked fine after booting up after that the first time.

Any thoughts?

I'm on a Dell laptop with XP Home.

Thanks

Hi all:I hope that this is the right board for this problem, even though it may not be primarily a "Touch" issue.  My problem is that I keep losing my pointer/cursor on my HP laptop. Here are my specs and details of the problem based on a set of questions that I found on another thread: What make / model computer? Hello, I have a Dell laptop 15R 2nd Gen i-5 processor running Windows 7 Home 64bit.

The problem I am having is this: Mouse disappears on right side of screen. The entire right side of screen (not just in the lower corner). If I move the mouse 6 inches to the right off screen, then I would have to move it 6 inches to the left again until it re-appears. If I moved the pointer 1 foot to the right, I would have to move it 1 foot to the left until the pointer re-appeared again.

It's as if the pointer kept going on to a hidden screen??

Lately my pointer is disappearing after i login from sleep or locked computer.

I had this problem in the past but it got solved after i restored my PC, now it came back to haunt me.
I am guessing some updates disrupted with the mouse cursor (not an expert opinion).

I've tried many things but the issue seems to be persistent.

Here are some things I've tried with no results:

Changing the pointer options (hide while you type, pointer trails, ctrl to highlight) and combinations of them.

I tried using different pointers (Black, White, Black small, etc)

Also tried using troubleshooting the software changes, sfc /scannow, clean registry with ccleaner, rebooting (many times).

It seems to be a problem with no concrete solution.

The only solution that I found is (Clt-Alt-Del) it changes the screen and the pointer appears again, if I lock the computer it is gone once more.

If somebody can help i would appreciate it.

thanks

This has happened at least a half dozen times now and averages probably once every two to five hours of use. It's gotten to the point where I can pretty much predict I'm about to get a BSoD a minute or two before it happens. A:Satellite U840T - Mouse disappears right of the screen and bottom

Hi

I?m confused.
Your issue isn?t described very well.

What do you mean exactly by: ?Mouse disappears right of the screen and bottom in black bars at the top??
Do you mean the touchpad or cursor?
The notebook?s touchpad supports the Gesture control feature (Multi Touch) and this feature could be configured in touchpad settings:
+Control panel -> mouse -> Device settings tab -> Settings+

There you can find also the option called ?Edge swipes? which opens the Charms bar, app Switcher, and Application bar just by moving finger from the edge of the touchpad in towards the center.

In such case the cursor would not be visible.

Having found people having the same problem I have tried running SFC several times, as suggested, but it says it found an issue it could not resolve.

Again following instructions on the forum I tried running DISM with an iso loaded and this hung at 40% for hours (overnight). I could not find a solution to this, but someone posted their CBS log and was given a solution to the original problem.

I do not understand what to look for in the log file, but there are several lines that mention an error. I attach the log file (zipped as it was too big for the forum), and if anyone can help I would be grateful.

Thanks

Hi guys!

First question: One of the things I disliked about Windows 8 was how you had to switch between two completely different GUI environments. It felt like they were in the way of eachother.
So when I installed Windows 8 on my 'main' PC rather than on my test PC, I was happy to notice that on a dualhead setup, the desktop goes neatly on one screen and the metro screen on the other one.
This way I could keep an eye on the weather, news, social media and such while doing other stuff on my other monitor... So I thought.

Problem is, when I click on the 'start' icon on the left screen, the metro screen appears. On my right screen, the desktop stays put. That's fine. But whenever I click the desktop or any piece of software running on my right screen, the metro screen disappears and my left screen shows my desktop with taskbar.

What I'd like is to be able to manually open and close metro on my left screen, instead of it disappearing because I do something different on my right screen.

Hope you get what I mean, rather tough to explain this one.
If you don't get it, I'll make a video

A:Metro "Start screen" disappears on dualhead

Anyone? This seemed like a rather logical thing to ask .

I have a friend that has a color printer. He does not print in color at all but his color ink runs out. Can it evaporate? any other reasons this might happen? It is not leaking anywhere. He evens keeps his printer off unless he is using it.
thanks

A:ink disappears

Hi!
Just a few thoughts....
Yep, ink dries up as the solvent part of the mix evaporates over time.
It is more likely that your friends ink cartridges are solidifying as this solvent slowly leaks away, leaving pigment, amongst other things, behind.
You will note that every regular ink cartridge displays a 'Best by' or 'Use by' date, and it is important to check this date when purchasing new ink supplies. I have found retailers selling cartridges that have only one or two months useful life left in them if these dates are used as a rule of thumb. I always ensure at least a 6 month margin, preferably longer, and only buy a cartridge shortly before I need it. Maybe your friend has been unlucky. I note that Hewlett Packard, for instance, have been known to say that they only give cartridges a 6 month life. If your friend is not using colour, but has a colour cartridge fitted, it is probable that the ink is drying up - or at the very least the ink nozzles are filled with conjealed, dried-up ink. Does he regularly use the nozzle cleaning facility that should exist for his printer? This is particularly important for low-use printers.

Correct cartridge storage before fitting to the printer is also important, both by the retail outlet (over which we have no control) and the end user - away from heat, keep in manufacturers foil packaging, out of direct sunlight, do not shake etc...

I hope I am in the right area and if not I apologize. I have Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and I just noticed a weird issue that I am not sure how to fix.

Current system is an AsRock Z97 Extreme 4 board, 8GB of ram, with various hard drives and an SSD. It also had a CD/DVD burner. the SSD is C:, I have a 160GB platter ad D: and then my CD/DVD is E: and then there are about 3 other drives. When I connect another drive via either a free sata port or if I connect my external via USB which has a hard drive in it, the CD/DVD disappears and the hard drive I am connecting now becomes E:. Then if I remove the drive the CD/DVD never comes back.

So some questions. Why is it when I connect it seems to over ride the CD/DVD rom letter (E to the new drive? And then how do I get it back? Only way I can get it back currently is to disconnect all the drives with the exception of C and D and then it appears.

If I put a media disc in, it does not play or anything. Is there some setting to say "when I connect anything, never use E:?

I have a Dell M17X system with integrated and discrete graphics. I have noticed that after a few Alt+Tab switches the window will eventually start disappearing too quickly to do any switching. On top of that, if I try to spell check an email, the dialog box will show Undo Edit immediately like something was pressed (and is not). When I use applications like Illustrator, I can't adjust the colors of anything as the window for color selection also disappears. In addition, moving the mouse across the task bar makes the windows show and disappear quickly.

I have had no luck figuring this one out. I generally have to restart to get the functionality back. I have also tried to update the drivers without much success. Either it won't install or loses it's driver information then I have to try and get it back working.

Please help. Dell offered no solution on this. I am running Windows 7 64-bit Home Pro.

Specifically, this is happening while I am checking my esquire emails and my daily sportingnews magazine. Normally, I would click something in one of these messages, and a new window pops up and I can proceed there. After I am done with that window, I close it out (with the x) and go back to my email box. But then I find out my email box is gone as well! Normally this should not happen! So I have to re-open my email box. Anybody know why this is happening and how to fix it?

So I did the regedit and deleted the upperfilters and lowerfilters and restarted. Drive appeared but disappeared as soon as it was restarted. I also went to the Dell website and updated BIOS, which worked for a while but I'm still having the same problem. Now nothing works, should I do a system restore?

Need your help. When Iím online all the windows of my IE browser just closes or disappears when Iím clicking the yahoo messenger icon. i need to open IE again. What could be wrong. Thanks.

A:IE disappears

There seems to be a problem with your shortcut to the iexplore.exe file, try making a new shortcut. There may also be a problem in your windows regristry. you might want to scan your whole system (start>>all programs>>accessories>>command prompt) then type in chkdsk.

I have an irritating issue on my computer that consists of a pop-up that appears then disappears. This causes problems when I am running older games in a full screen mode, usually causing them to freeze and shutdown. I can see the pop-up appear on my Taskbar, it appears for only a few seconds then disappears. I've scanned my computer religiously using AVG, Microsoft Anti Spyware, Adaware and Spybot, I've run Hijack This a few times and have tried to catch it in my Task Manager window, but I have been unable to track down which program on my computer is causing this. I'm worried it might be some form of spyware or virus that is either updating itself or downloading information from my computer. It's not a major worry at the moment but it is extremely irritating.

Thanks

PS:
OS= XP Home sp2
Browser= Firefox/ IE 5.0
Anti Virus= AVG
Anti Spyware= Ewido, Microsoft, Adaware, Spybot, and I use Panda once in a while

A:Pop Up That Disappears

Well, 2 hours of reading the forums, 4 hours of letting the Panda online scanner do its thing, going through and manually deleting the crap it turned up seems to have solved my issue. Thanks for the tips, I think I've managed to find the little blighter that's been messing up my computer...thanks

I run Win2k Sp4, Nero ver6.3+ ,the Dvd is a Mitsubushi (doesn't use DMA in Dev Mangr)as Slave on secoundary IDE channel ,Plextor PX708a as Master.
The DVD drive intermittently disappears from explorer and is not listed in the bios when I reboot, this did start after upgrading to the Plextor(which has the latest firmware and uses DMA in DevMngr)
Bios is Latest ver
The drive works fine when it is seen.
I tried new Cables ,Power connectors ,Mastr/Slave setting checked

Do you think it just dying or is it an issue I have not thought of.

A:DVD rom disappears !

Could your DVD have selected a drive-letter that is taken already by another drive on your home-network? It would then only happen when that other PC (with that drive-letter) is already switched on, when you start your PC.

You could always change the DVD-drive-letter to one that is guaranteed not in use elsewhere.

I recently tried to run regedit and the cmd box opens and just diassapears and nothing happens. Anything that uses the dos box thingy(im a comp. noob) donest work. I went to run, typed in cmd, and the same thing, the box pops up for one second and just diasppears. Ive run virus scanners and spware scanners, but nothing came up. This hard drive is barely a month old so I doubt its an infection. I had this problem once with my old hard drive, and one day it was just fixed. Im lost, please help me, any suggestions are more than appreciated.

A:CMD Box Disappears

I don't know how to fix the CMD window closing... but: You can run any command from the 'run' dialog anyway, so the CMD window is not needed unless you are browsing around the drive.

open the 'run' dialog and enter regedit then 'OK'

This problem is getting worse and worse, and I need some advice. I have an HP Officejet 6500 709n. Worked fine for a year or more. It is installed on the Windows 7-64 laptop through the network and works flawlessly. It is the desktop running Windows 7-32 that is having trouble. Almost every single day lately, the printer disappears from Devices and Printers. It will not print when I use it on through the home group or network either. The scanner drivers never work through Solution Center--the only way to scan is through Windows Fax and Scan or through the printer's website. All network tests are perfect. But every single day I am having to do a level 4 uninstall and reinstall the latest HP Windows 7 driver. I am at my wit's end here. I have disabled HP Cue Device from services.msc, but the stupid thing still disappears and/or won't print. HELP!

I use my Windows 7 sticky notes pinned to my bottom tray. Lately after my pc restarts the sticky notes icon disappears from my bottom tray. Usually I find the icon in the accessories catagory & I just re-execute it & repin it to the bottom tray.
But after my last recycle of the pc, sticky notes is not even found under the accessories area.
I've tried doing a search & a sticky notes file is found, but it cannot be opened.
Any help would be appreciated as I do like using sticky notes.
tks
Tom
