Can my Dell E5440 drive a 2560 x 1080 display through the docking station?

Q: Can my Dell E5440 drive a 2560 x 1080 display through the docking station?

I have a Dell E5440 laptop issued to me at work. I added a Dell Latitude E Series PR03X Docking Station and recently replaced a 1920 x 1080 monitor with an LG 29UB55-B 29" UltraWide monitor with a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1080. The docking station has two ports, a DVI port and a DisplayPort. I discovered pretty quickly that the DVI port is single-link since my external monitor's resolution maxed out at 1920 x 1080. I ordered a DisplayPort cable in the hope that it will support the monitor's full resolution, but this question occurred to me:
Can the E5440 support an external monitor at that resolution? It used two video solutions, the Intel HD Graphics 4600 and a Nvidia GeForce 720M Discrete Graphics Card with 2 GB of RAM.
It uses two video solutions, the Intel HD Graphics 4600 and a Nvidia GeForce 720M Discrete Graphics Card with 2 GB of RAM, and apparently switches from one to the other depending on demand. My research suggests that both can support the resolution I need, but only through a DisplayPort. Of note, the laptop itself doesn't have a DisplayPort, but the docking station does. I don't know if that is a problem or not.
Is anyone else out there successfully driving a 2560 x 1080 monitor with a Dell docking station and laptop?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Thank you for your message. This system does support a resolution of 2560 x 1080.The maximum resolution supported by the Intel graphic card is 3840x2160.As you mentioned, you have a switchable graphic card. When there is a graphic intense application used, the system will automatically switch to the discrete card. You can also manually set the application to automatically open with the discrete card. You will need to use an HDMI – Display port adapter.

I have an external HDMI monitor, the problem is simple.
When the monitor is plugged in the docking station anything using that HDMI screen DOES NOT use the NVIDIA GPU, it uses the on-board Intel chip.
When connecting the monitor directly to the laptop all applications on the external monitor use the NVIDIA GPU (I have this as default in the NVIDIA control panel)

Please advise on how I can get the D3100 to work with the NVIDIA GPU.

Many thanks.

I have a Dell E5440 laptop that recently had it's LCD panel replaced. I usually dock it and connect it to an Optoma Projector and before I had the LCD panel replaced, I only showed 2 displays when I went to screen resolution. Now, after the LCD panel has been replaced, I see 3 displays in Screen Resolution, one of them being the laptop display.

Has anyone seen this behavior before and if so, do you know how to correct it? And before you go telling me to check my power setting in the Control Panel, my power settings are the same as they were before I had my LCD panel replaced. Also, I have upgraded the BIOS and completely wiped the hard drive and re-installed Windows.

At this point in time, I'm willing to entertain any and all suggestions.

Thanks,

Rusty

Hello so my laptop (Precision 1350 Workstation) with windows 7 which i bought in September 2016 stopped charging after I used it with my docking station . It worked for a week or two prior to this and then I started getting a notification every time I put the laptop on the docking station that said "ac power adapter not recognized , use adapter of 65 watts or above" but the adapter was 130 watts. Even when the laptop was taken off the docking station and the ac adapter was just plugged into the wall it still won't charge at all. I made sure the bios was updated 1.11.4 and even checked for driver to update and ran the online diagnostics there was no problems but it still won't charge. A tech came out last Wednesday and replaced the motherboard and this fixed the problem for about a day but then when I put it back on the docking station the same problem occurred and it still won't charge. I even tried it on a different docking station but the same make and model as mine and the problem persists. Does anyone know what is wrong? The phone tecnicians and the technicians don't seem to know what to do

Hello All,
I work in a school district and we have a number of Dell Latitude 3350 laptops along with a Dell D1000 USB3.0 Dual-Video Docking Station. One of the docking stations has recently started having a strange issue with the USB ports seem to stop working. The video and LAN ports seem perfectly fine and continue to work. But the teacher will lose connectivity to their mouse, keyboard, and document camera.
I can disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to the laptop, but not even 15 minutes later the same issue comes back. I've reinstalled the drivers, and even replaced the entire unit (and it's USB cable) with a brand new one out of the box and the same issue still comes up.
Could this still be a software/driver issue? Or am I potentially looking at a bad USB port on the laptop?
Many thanks for any and all help. Have a great day!

A:Dell D1000 Docking Station

A bad USB port on the laptop seems unlikely if your video and LAN traffic are working correctly given that they're also flowing through your laptop's USB port.  You can certainly test another USB port on that laptop (assuming that system has more than one), although even that wouldn't be a conclusive test since all USB ports on a system are often wired to the same controller chip.  Do you have another laptop you can test with?  Otherwise, the best way to rule out drivers would probably be to get the latest version available directly from DisplayLink, which is the company that makes the chips that enable those docks to carry video and other traffic on a USB cable.  Head over to DisplayLink.com for those.  Good luck!

Our laptop assets consist of Dell E series laptops. Most laptops (approx 50) have the standard dell docking port station.

As Dell change the design with each revision including the dock port style and position, does anyone know if Dell are introducing a new series anytime soon or in the near future? I don't want to have to spend ?200 on a dock only for the next laptop not to fit.
Of course there are the USB style docks which will work on any laptop, obvious downsides is to keep having to plug the AC charger in.
How do you guys manage this in your organisations, 50 x ?200 is a lot of money to spend every 5 years or so adding in the price of new laptops, screens and stands.

Recently we purchased a few M700s for the office (6th Gen Skylake HD 530 Graphics chipset). Although the specs on the Intel HD 530 say they should support resolutions a lot higher than 2560 x 1080 59Hz, i am unable to achieve this resolution in Win7 (tried a few Intel driver revisions still no luck).  If i boot the M700 with Gandalf's Win 10 USB, then I am able to achieve that resolution with the same monitor (LG Ultrawide) and DisplayPort cable, so i know these two are not the issue.  So everything points to the Win7 driver. Microsoft doesn't have a native HD 530 driver, and no matter what Intel one i use i always max out at 1920 x 1080 (60i Hz).  I know I am not the only one with this issue, anyone has a suggestion /workaround other than Upgrading to Win10?

Hey there.

I've got a user that has a Tecra M9 on a docking station.
There are 2 monitors connected to the docking station, one with VGA, the other with DVI. I use the Nvidia control panel and set up the displays and all is good in the world.
That is until the user undocks the laptop, does some work at home, then brings the laptop back in.

From that point, only one monitor is working, with the second out of action.
I can go back in and reset the setup, but the user doesn't want that to happen everyday.

Any suggestions on how to get the laptop to save the settings depending on if it's docked or undocked?

Thanks!

Do you know what the user did in the past?
In my knowledge there is no any special option which could save this. If you click on button (Apply) then the changes are made and saved.

When trying to use a Displayport to VGA or a Displayport to DVI cable to connect from an HP 2013 Ultraslim Docking station to an external display, the display comes up with no signal and goes to sleep. Connecting with a VGA cable, it works fine. We were able to replicate this issue with multiple new, fresh out of the box docking stations. The issue happens on any monitors that we connect, even ones that work with other docks. It seems to be the Intel Displayport Topology is picking up the display and making it so that the displayport cannot be activated without connecting 3 monitors.  The older version of the Ultraslim Docking station that only had 1 displayport seems to work just fine, it's just the newer 2013 version that has 2 displayports that has this issue.  Does anyone know if there is any newer firmware or where I can disable/stop the Displayport Topology from picking up this one monitor and trying to make it 3 displays? If not, we're probably going to have to go back to USB adapters and those are no fun. Thanks,Andrew System info:HP Elitebook 840 G1, G2, and G3 (Issue has occured with all 3 models.)Windows 7 Enterprise x64HP 2013 Ultraslim Docking StationDock Firmware 2.30Updated Graphics, Chipset and USB drivers to latest version from HP's website.

Can you precisely identify the process hogging that CPU?

You could download and run the free Process Explorer. You'll be able to precisely identify the culprit. By right-clicking on the process showing high CPU and selecting Properties… > Threads tab, you'll be able to pinpoint the thread that's hogging CPU within the process. You'll need to slide the bar left of CSwitch Delta in order to see the CPU values.

Process Explorer doesn't require any installation. Simply run the executable file once downloaded. Then, configure the Process Explorer window to your liking. You can even replace the Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) by clicking on Options > Replace Task Manager. You'll get a lot more features and details than with the Task Manager.

To determine which Process might be hogging CPU, click on the little graphs located at the top right of the window. A new window with four graphs will open, the first one being CPU. Click inside the window and press the spacebar to freeze the display. This will make it easier to hover your mouse cursor over the CPU peaks in order to read which process(es) is/are creating them.

I joined Dell Communities very recently after buying myself the Dell Precision 7510 laptop. It's a great product so far, but I want better. I want more ports. A docking station to go with it is the obvious solution.
What is the best docking station compatible with the Dell Precision 7510 laptop??? My specific needs/setup:
- 2 external screens (D-sub / HDMI connection, or for £50 more I can get display-port), possibly more screens in the future
- high-speed internet cable
- headphones/microphone
- USB sockets for mouse, keyboard, printer, scanner, external hard drives, etc.
I presume that the Advance E-port Replicator is the best/most suitable. I just want to be sure of this, because my laptop model (Precision 7510) is still very new, and not all information everywhere has been updated about compatibility. I don't want to make an expensive mistake. I'll be travelling and won't have the opportunity to "return" the products I buy.

A:Docking Station for Dell Precision 7510

Yes. I contacted Dell sales... and they told me that the Dell E-Port Plus II, is compatible with my Precision 7510. After written confirmation I went ahead and bought it from a UK supplier on Amazon for £100... but it came in dodgy packaging and wasn't quite working, and the adapter was the size of a brick (literaly). I returned that back to Amazon... and tried my luck with Amazon Germany. You can get the original product from them for about 140 euros, and it works perfectly. The link to the product:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A8ESOVA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00
(that's actually UK now that I check it... that's the one I bought and it's good)
Basically Dell hasn't updated it's information about compatability yet. The docking station is listed in the check-out for the Precision 7510, but doesn't specifically say it is compatible with that model. I've had other similar problems elsewhere too, like I want to instal LoJack on my laptop, but can't find any information on whether my laptop model supports something called "persistence technology" in the BIOS (which makes it impossible to uninstall LoJack even if you change hard drives).

Hi, What is the model of your Dell docking station ? Many HP docking stations won't be compatible with HP Spectre x360 machines, I don't think your Dell would BUT I need to know what exactly is your Dell docking station. Regards.

I am considering to buy 5th generation Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Intel Core i7-7500U-processor (20HR002MMD). Currently the following displays are available: A. 14.0" FHD (1920 x 1080) 300 nitsB. 14.0" WQHD IPS (2560 x 1440) 300 nits available in Summer 2017 Questions:1. Is there a noticeable difference between display A and B in practice?2. If I buy display A (1920 x 1080) is it then possible to have a screen resolution of (2560 x 1440) on my external UHD Monitor? Thank you in advance.

Has anyone tried using the USB-C as a third display port for HDMI or DP? I'm aware that the dock only has 2 DP outputs, but I don't see why a USB-HDMI connection wouldn't work.  Thank you,Taylor

Hello, I have connected HP Compaq LA2405wg through VGA cable to HP 2013 UltraSlim Docking Station Rev V1.00 and there is no possibility to change display resolution to 1920x1200. Highest possibility is 1920x1080. The resolution works if I connect it directly to my notebook. What should be done? Some Docking station drivers/firmware? Thank you.

I use 3 external monitors conected to my docking station (Dell P2314H). Two of the monitors display 1920 x 1080 and they are connected to the 2 DP ports on the docking station. The third is connected to the VGA port and when I set the resolution to 1920 x 1080 the left and right edges of the image don't fit on the screen. It is just enough off to prevent me from clicking the start button in the corner. Has anyone else had this issue?

The design of the Dell TB15's cable is really poor. The cable is hardwired on the docking station on the left side of the unit, which is same side the thunderbolt port is on the XPS15 9550. This gives you very little options on where to put the dock, since the cable is so short.
Has anyone found an TB3 extension cable that their using?
I'd really like to move the docking station away from where I keep my laptop. If I could find a 10' cable for the docking station, that would be perfect.
However, I'm not finding much in the way of female/male cables. I'm pretty sure I'd need an TB "active" cable.
Has anyone seen an extension cable that would work?
Thanks!

A:Extension cable for Dell TB15 docking station?

I asked this same question some time ago. It turns out that the TB15 cable is replaceable and the process is shown in the doc for it. Which would certainly indicate that they plan on having other lengths available at some point as the inside connector looks like some custom connector. That said, technically there is apparently a limitation on the cable length, I believe it is less than 3 feet. I have not found any ThunderBolt 3 extension cables.
