Windows 10 Upgrade: Internal Microphone, Integrated Micropho...

Q: Windows 10 Upgrade: Internal Microphone, Integrated Micropho...

The Windows 10 upgrade seems to be working fine on my HDX 16 (I did a clean install). Now I want to talk to Cortana and cannot get my built-in microphone to work. This brings up two questions. 1. Does my laptop model have an Integrated Microphone Array? I cannot remember the last time it worked, but I thought it had one. 2. If it does have a built-in mic, how do I get Windows 10 and Cortana to hear it? I have tested and have got things to work with an external (Logitech) headset mic and headphones. And, I have an old unbranded external stand mic that works as well. I just cannot yell "Hey Cortana" at my PC and get anything to happen. I also ran the mic test on the Integrated Microphone Array and it recorded nothing (and I set the array to default). My driver is IDT High Definition Audio CODEC 6.10.6225.0, dated 7/21/2009.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm having a bit of a problem after I reset a Toshiba Satellite C55D-A-13T computer and upgraded it to windows 10. I reinstalled all the software from the Windows 10 upgrade Toshiba page and everything appears to work except the internal microphone. It doesn't appear to register any sound. It worked before, with windows 8.1 installed.

I tried another external microphone and that work fine. I tried reinstalling the IDT sound drivers and uninstalled DTS sound and Toshiba audio enhancements. I tried different audio levels and boost levels. The newest BIOS is installed. I tried using microsoft HD audio drivers but always with the same result, the green bar doesn't budge in recording devices.

After upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7, the internal microphone on my DELL Inspiron 1525 does not work. When checking in the Control Panel > Sounds, the only device options are for the external microphone connection to the jack... Please help!

A:DELL Inspiron 1525 Internal Microphone Not Working After Windows 7 Upgrade

Hi vinnyspice,
According to Dell's website, this laptop's drivers are only for Windows Vista. You contact Dell and see if there is any update available.
In the meantime, try downloading and installing the chipset driver and the sound card driver for Windows Vista and see if the issue can be resolved. You can download
Also, run Windows Update to see if it helps.

Hello Everybody,
I thought I'd create an account so that I could share / brag about making the internal speaker on the OptiPlex 760 (and presumably others) work with Windows 10 and likely Windows 8, as well.
When I upgraded from Windows 7, one of the first things I noticed (once I realized it had booted up and I was staring at the desktop and not a splash screen) was that the sound wasn't working.  There was an installed driver (courtesy of Microsoft), a generic HD Audio that probably came from Analog Devices, themselves.  It noticed that there weren't headphones (front) or speakers (back) plugged in, but not the internal speaker.
After some (unsuccessful) fiddling around, and searching, I found this post from 2009 (right around the release of Windows 7).

That worked well for Windows 7 using the Vista drivers, so I went in search of the Windows 7 drivers (which had since been released) in the hopes that it'd work for Windows 8 or 10 (update R228257):

Booyah!  I didn't even need to run the installer in compatibility mode!

A:DELL OptiPlex 760 Internal Speakers and Windows 10 (ADI 198x integrated audio drivers)

I, too, have an Optiplex 760 made in 2008 that I have updated to Windows 10 Pro.  Since I usually use an external speaker, I didn't notice this issue at first - until I tried the front headphone jack; there was no sound, and plugging in the headphones didn't silence the external speakers.  Eventually, I found the Sound tool in Control panel that lets you choose either the external speaker jack on the back or the front panel headphone jack and the internal speaker.  My current audio driver is the Win10 version, 10.0.10586.0.
What I'd like to clarify is whether you are having to choose which connector to use, as I am, or whether that driver will let you have a speaker plugged into the rear panel jack and still use the front panel headphone jack without having to choose in Control Panel - as it worked in Windows 7.

I have tried the fixes suggested in the posts for finding the internal microphone but when I right-click in Sounds - Recording and click on  Show disabled devices or Show disconnected devices, nothing shows up. All I can find under Recording is a line-in option, no mic anywhere and no other options. No one can hear me on Skype now. Any suggestions please? Thank you.

I own a laptop (Presario CQ56) and have been using Skype constantly for about a year with its internal microphone without an issue. After obtaining an automatic Windows 7 update a couple of days ago, my internal microphone stopped working. The microphone is still detected, enabled, but isn't picking up any input whatsoever. However, there is low static, but it's very constant, and isn't changed by input whatsoever. Here are the things I've tried:

-System Restore to before the update, then disabling automatic updates so I no longer have it
-Running the computer's find and fix audio recording software which claimed that there was no issue
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers without restart (with driver updates automatically through the computer's find and fix audio recording problems)
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers with restart (with driver updates automatically through the computer's find and fix audio recording problems)
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers with restart (through the official site's driver updates)

I do not own an external microphone, and I am hoping that I don't have to get one. That being said, that also means that I can't be entirely sure whether it's software or hardware based.

I hope that one of you can help me. I've done a lot of internet scouring and Google-ing and have run out of things to try; I've been at it for about 5 hours so far.

Thank you in advance.

A:Internal Microphone Suddenly Not Working After Windows Update

I would do a system restore to before it did the updates and see if it resolves the issue. Click start, programs, accessories, system tools, then system restore. Choose the date before the problem started happening and let it restore. See if the mic works after that. If it asks to do updates again and by chance you know what one caused the problem; then just dont download it. And to solve that from happening i would change the windows update settings to only download but let me choose when to install. EDIT: nevermind the system restore I just saw you already did that. In the end though i would just completely uninstall the device itself; remove it from device manager completely; and let windows hopefully re-detect it correctly.

Recently, I was messing around in control panel, and ended up disabling my integrated laptop microphone, specifically by going to Manage Audio Devices -> Recording, clicking on my integrated microphone, and then disabling it. I was hoping to only temporarily disable it and re-enable it some time later... the only thing is, I don't know how.

I use Windows 7, and when I return to Manage Audio Devices -> Recording, I just don't see my integrated microphone there.

Maybe I'm just searching the wrong terms, but I've been looking for around four hours now, and I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong. I've reinstalled drivers, tried roll backing to old drivers, updating to the newest, using Microsoft's device controller updates (??), and any other persons ideas from the forums I've visited and looked at.

So, here's my problem.

The Microphone WILL NOT WORK. At all. (Realtek Latest Drivers, etc...)

It picks up the fact that I have it plugged in, or when I unplug it. I've gone into properties and attempted any and all possible combinations of configuration to maybe get lucky and get it to work, but it simply refuses.

The microphone level is maxed, the boost is maxed, the troubleshooter says there is absolutely no problem, and both of my headsets will not work from either front or back pink port, even if they work on my laptop. (Also, the button on the cord is set to on, so I'm not overlooking that)

On the attached picture, it shows my microphone is indeed there and active when it's plugged in, but all of that "sound" it's receiving is just white noise.

It's driving me insane, I just can't figure out what to do.

Any help, any insight at all would be appreciated.

Hey just wanted to enquire regarding about an issue that has recently arised. Whenever I use any program that requires a microphone (eg. Skype, Ventrilo etc) that is from a headset it appears that the receiver can additionally listen to any noise that I'm supposed to hear.

Let me reiterate that more clearly, I'm using a headset with a microphone, during a Skype session the receiver can hear everything I'm hearing privately from my headsets :S

I've tried every combination when plugging the mic and speaker inputs in the 3 rear holes and the 2 front holes for mic and speaker specifically.

A:Audio Microphone Integrated?

The receiver (basically being the person you're talking to) can hear anything that's directly into your MIC - such as talking, screaming, etc. It cannot, however, listen to things you play from your computer such as music because it actually mutes your mic when you're playing music (so I've found out). Might just be, but I dunno.

Good luck.

Hello everyone! I hope this is the right forum. I have an older Acer Aspire 6920 laptop (Win 7 32 bit). I wish to Skype with my daughter. The built in video camera works fine. However, I can’t find the integrated microphone in the sounds or in the device driver management areas. The only options that show up are for plug in microphones. Did a little searching on the internet and saw some mentions of Realtek. Went to Acer site and found this:

Can I install this driver? If so, what is the process for doing that. Thanks for your time.

I'm no longer able to use the microphone in any of my earphones when making calls on my laptop. Really hoping someone can help

Things to know:

I've tried with standard iPhone earphones and with RHA earphones - same issue
When I plug the earphones into the jack, I get the "What device are you using" popup and select
"Headphones (with microphone)" option.
If I visit https://www.onlinemictest.com/ I can see that the microphone is working OK - the line moves when I speak into the mic
If I right-click on the speakers/headphones option in the taskbar and click 'Sound' and then into the "Recording" tab, the levels do not move when I speak into the mic
This has all worked perfectly fine in the past, but I deleted a few drivers at some point and it hasn't worked properly since then
I have a microphone plugged into USB that works fine - but the issue with my earphones exists whether that USB mic is plugged in or not

I have a 1545 and have reinstalled windows, the device drivers from dell's website and the webcam central software from the CD.  I find that the internal microphone will not record audio.
I have attempted to boot into the 32 bit diagnostic CD and also get a failure when testing the integrated microphone.  If I connect an external I am able to get a pass on the side mic test.
Anyone else having this problem, or can anyone confirm with a 1545 that the internal mic is working?  If this is known problem I can avoid sending the new laptop in for repairs..

Sorry-- according to your manual you either have a dual mike built into the webcam or an analog one. You need to say what operating system you have. IF Xp, you must install the Notebook System Software first before all other drivers or the other drivers will not install correctly.

Click Start, type: DEVMGMT.MSC in Search Field and Press Enter. It opens Device Maanger Window.2. Go to 'Sound, Video and Game Controllers' category, and expand it. Right click on IDT High Definition Audio Device entry and click Uninstall3. I went on Skype to talk and I found that it could not detect a webcam, and the other person couldn't hear my voice. I checked the device manager and no imagery or recording device was found. The camera and the microphone are both integrated. They have worked before.

There is another problem which may be linked. When I first got the laptop, when I pressed the fn key, a bar at the top of the screen would pop up which showed me what all the different f keys did. This no longer appears. Also, when I first got the laptop, if I were to plug in headphones or an external microphone into the line-out sockets, a message would pop up. This no longer happens, and the laptop isn't receiving any input from a headset I plug into it.

I have tried reinstalling the webcam drivers but to no avail. According to the device manager it doesn't exist. If this were the only problem then I may put it down to damage, but the other problems give me a feeling it has something to do with some kind of software I may have accidentally disabled or deleted, that has control over the webcam/mic and the line-out, which also produced user-interface elements such as that of pressing the fn key.

I cannot pinpoint a time when this stopped working as I have only just noticed the webcam and the microphone not working as I have not used them in a while. I have noticed, however, how pressing the 'fn' key no longer brings up the resp... Read more

A:Internal and External Microphone

You need the Microphone mode. The microphone mode provides 5VDC on the "ring" connection, which is required by a "computer" microphone. If you use or set the jack mode to "Line" the "ring" connector will change from 5VDC to a signal in connection and a "computer" microphone will not work.

It does appear in the audio devices control panel but not in device manager (although I don't know that it should?), and it says its working correctly but obviously this is not so!

Additionally, the sound was behaving erratically as well - it often will not work unless I click the test button on the speaker properties page. If I leave the computer for any length of time I have to repeat this.

I have downloaded the only audio driver that is listed here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...Id=5060880&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4058 but this does not seem to have any effect.

Anybody have any ideas?
