Keys get stuck virtually while playing games

Q: Keys get stuck virtually while playing games

I bought this laptop HP Pavilion Notebook 15-ab029tx on 2-Sep-2015 for ?53k. Ever since I bought this laptop I have been having problems while playing games. The Keys get virtually stuck after continous playing. The problem is not specific to a set of keys. It is aways random. If I am playing a racing games then any of the ARROW keys or the spacebar will get stuk virtually or if I am playing FIFA then W,A,S,D or the ARROW keys get stuck. The player will keep going in the pressed direction. I have to find out which key is malfunctioning and then de-press it to stop the malfunctioning. I have talked to HP Support and they sent a representative to look into the issue and they had to finally replace the whole keyboard. But the problem was still there. Then I got a BIOS update, that also did not resolve the issue. So I had to talk to HP Support again. This time the representative asked me to first check it with an external keyboard (I was running Windows 10 at this moment). There was no problem with the external keyboard. Then he asked me to format my whole laptop. So I reinstalled Win 8.1 from the recovery disks provided by HP and I am still getting the same issue. Also, I am not getting the free Win 10 update which I had earlier. I have done the following:1. Tried an external keyboard (no key malfunction)2. BIOS update F.81 - No luck3. Formating the whole laptop - No luck4. Unistalled the keyboard driver and restarted - No luck Please help and fix the issue.

Preferred Solution: Keys get stuck virtually while playing games

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I bought the HP Omen laptop about four days ago. The day after I bought it, I started playing games. From time to time (about every 15 minutes), my WASD keys would get stuck and repeat themselves in games (my character would keep walking). I would have to press the key, regardless of the amount of pressure, to stop the "key spam". I disabled sticky and filter keys, as well as made sure that the keyboard's drivers were up to date, and that the device wouldn't be in power saving mode (anyways, I always game with my charger plugged in). I'm sort of speechless, considering I bought this less than a week ago, and the keyboard keys don't have anything under them (I've been very cautious about not letting anything slip under there) and that the keys are starting to latch during games. Another speculation, it also seems to happen mid-way through games, usually when my CPU and GPU are at their highs, when my computer's temperatures are higher (75-85 C for both CPU and GPU). If anyone could help me figure this out, thank you!

Hello! I recently bought this laptop from USA. And had this problem a while but ignored it since it didn't happen so often. Let's take for example project CARS, when i play it and i keep pushing some keys for a while, they virtually get stuck and are kept being pressed like i still press them even if i don't, making the game unplayable. Even in shooters like Rainbow Six: Siege it is happening, the difference is that in shooters i don't need to hold the key down for too long for this to happen, only 3 seconds. But it doesn't always happen, the problem is that is making some games unplayable.

The keypad is fine..no issues while typing...BUT while gaming, W ,S,A and D keys are swapped with the arrow keys even if the input is set as W,S,A and D in the control configuration of the games. This is happening in every game. I m using Windows 10. Please find its solution anyhow and inform me.

recently i've been having some troubles with my pc while playing COD mw2, and Demigod.

sometimes when i play the game gets "stuck" for a few seconds, the sound gets "stuck" as well, and then it returns to normal. it usually happens more than once during a couple of minutes, and sometimes it never comes back on, so i have to restart the PC.

when it happens the GPU temp is ~73c but i guess that's normal.

i never had that problem before. i updated all of my graphic card drivers, and i flashed my BIOS to a newer version.

my specs:

AMD Phenom IIx4 920 2.8Ghz
Asus M4A78-E motherboard
4 Ghz of RAM
Sapphire 4870HD 1Gb Vapor-x
Vista home premium 64bit

Do you have things running in the background? I have heard of that with some virusscanners, because they will try to scan while playing a game, which in turn slows everything down.

As the title states when i am in a game (dota 2, CS:GO), my game gets stuck for 1-2 seconds, sometimes longer. If i play any of these games offline it doesnt happen however.

What have i tried?
I tried checking if it was the internet by playing same game on my laptop, there it wasnt a problem
I tried updating my gfx driver.
I tried formatting (3 times) and only installing drivers and one of the games, the problem persisted.
I might have tried other things, but its a little of a blur currently

I am thinking it might be my motherboard/network card, but would like to hear your oppinion

Thanks, Wizardo

Hi and welcome to 7F. Coffee + electronics = problems. You don't list the model no of your laptop which would help to find a YouTube video how to remove the keyboard so you can use a product like this one: Electronic Circuit Board Cleaner Spray to clean it out and hopefully free the shift key

My laptop is malfunctioning such that the shift key is virtually stuck, ie when I go to type in numbers it writes the symbols corresponding to SHIFT+number (for example, 3 is only written as #, etc). I can't get into the laptop to troubleshoot at all since my password is exclusively numbers and I can't type in the numbers without them being changed to symbols. What can I do to fix this? I am completely stuck on the login screen and can't use the computer at all unless this problem gets fixed.

Hello, I have a question. My Lenovo Yoga 720 15.6" doesn't overheat, although I've noticed something rather odd. When I play Fifa 17 with the charger plugged in, the fans are very loud and the laptop gets pretty hot. When I play Fifa 17 on battery only (charger not plugged in) the fans are quite silent and the laptop doesn't get hot at all. Why is that? For all I know, I would expect the exact opposite...Thanks in advance!Kind regards,Tijs

A:Lenovo Yoga 720 15" : hot when playing games on charger, cool when playing games on battery???

The CPU runs at full speed when it is plugged in and runs more slowly on battery to save power. Faster = more heat.

From time to time the computer behaves as if sticky keys and/or filter keys is turned on. They are not turned on in control panel so I can't just go there to turn them off. Running CC Cleaner sometimes helps with this problem. It is not an issue with the keyboard either. On a possibly related note, my homepage keeps changing itself to MSN. Thank you for any help.

My laptop refused to start up at first leaving just a blank screen, though I eventually got it to start up though it stays stuck on the Lenovo logo as long as it's open. I close it and it gets to the password login screen. When I open it, though the password Feild is flooded with characters that I can't see, because it's the space for my laptop, and yet none of my keys are pushed down so I'm not sure which keys are 'stuck'. I've tried compressed air, vaccuming it, running my hands on the keyboard, even turning it over and tapping it from the bottom so I have no idea what else I can do.

Hello all,

I've been having a few problems with my laptop since I bought it. The problem mainly occurs when I'm playing a game (usually xcom: enemy unknown or deus ex HR at the moment) but has occurred when I'm browsing the internet (albeit far less often). The BSODs appear to be random but I'm using a blue tooth mouse and have noticed the BSOD will usually happened if I'm using it. I've also noticed that my laptop screen with black out for a split second on games that are quite graphics intensive for my system.

Its been frustrating me a lot so I reinstalled and fully updated windows 7. The GPU drivers are all up to date also.

I've attached the SF file that is required and would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks for your time

So I recently opened my CPU because it was lagging and I thought maybe a little clean up might do the trick. So I softly brushed the drivers inside the CPU to get some dust off. However, when I turned on my PC, it seems that whenever I watch videos or play games, a loud crackling sound comes out from my speakers. I don't know what is causing this.

I have tried disabling my drivers (sound and display) but to no avail. However, if I mute the volume on my sound driver, the sound disappears. Which lead me to the conclusion that it might be a conflict of sound and display.

Since the problem only occured when I opened my CPU and cleaned it, it might also be a wiring problem or something.

Can someone help me on this?

I just updated and rebuilt my PC and have reinstalled Win 7 64 bit and am constantly getting a BSOD while using the PC. Specifically while downloading/installing/playing games. I have also had the error occur just while surfing the internet.
From the program Blue Screen Viewer it seems to be caused by ntoskrnl.exe+7f1c0 and/or ntoskrnl.exe+7e769
I can not find any solution to fix this issue, I have updated drivers, I have ran the Microsoft memory checker, , I have changed out my memory, tried 2 other video cards, tried two different wireless network cards, now on wired connection, I even changed motherboards, got the errors on both SSD and HDD. The only things I haven't changed out is the PS and CPU, since I am using the PC to write this I am ruling out the CPU as the issue.

I have used Memtest86 and prime95 to test the memory and CPU, nothing is coming back with errors or issues. I did run driver verifier and got two .dmp files for some specific files but not sure what to do with those now. They are included in the attachement

It seems to be software/driver issue but I can not figure it out.

Any help would be great, thanks!

SP1 isn't installed, please do the following:

Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates (may take repeated visits)
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center
5. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates. May take repeated visits, but keep it up until you get several "Windows is updated" results.
If you're having difficulties with installing a Service Pack, please use the SURTool from this link: What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
Also, check out this troubleshooting link from Microsoft: Troubleshoot problems installing Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

Hello guys. So here is my issue i dont really know how to specific it further then this still hope it will help.

I have been getting BSOD for a while now and it's getting to the point i cant do a single thing on the computer. I did the config for dumps and so on and ended up with this RAR file with all the info i assume. I mostly get the bluescreen when i try to watch anime etc on googlechrome. It never works it's a matter of seconds before the BSOD comes. But when watching it on other browsers like opera it works just fine "mostly" even there it bluescreens from time to time. And then there is when it's most fatal, Playing onlinegames. Whenever I play online games like World of warcraft, League of Legends, Heroes of Neweart etc etc etc i risk getting bluescreens. It differs very much from game to game how often the bluescreens appear and it seems to not be preformance related since sometimes i play constantly for hours when maxing out games and pushing the computer to it's limits when it comes to frames. And still the bluescreen lies in dorment waiting for a more suitable interrupt for me. From the looks of it the bluescreen is related mostly to my operatingsystem more then commponents after i looked at the dumpfiles via "Bluescreenviewer".

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this and i hope you guys can help me with this. also this is my first post so I maybe did this typical "bad thread", Still i hope this will get me atleast closer to... Read more

Before we can even begin to find the underlying cause you need to update the following drivers. Especially asacpi.sys. Yours is from 2005

ASACPI.sys 3/27/2005 10:30:36 PM
Lycosa.sys 1/18/2008 4:51:42 AM
nvm62x64.sys 10/17/2008 5:01:06 PM
netr28x.sys 2/25/2009 11:02:09 PM
How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference

First and foremost I apologize if this thread is not in the correct place. The issue is this:

As I am working on the computer (Sony VAIO Laptop)(Windows Vista Home Edition), I hit the arrow key several times. Doesn't really matter which one, the result is the same. Just for argument sake, lets say I hit the left arrow key several times. The computer will act as if the key is stuck, and will scroll to the left. Using the up and down arrow keys, I can go up or down with out a problem. When I hit the right arrow button, I don't go to the right. The only way I can "unstick" the left arrow button is to hit again.

This issue happens with all the arrow keys, so I figure that perhaps it is a preference somewhere in Vista. I thought it might be the stickys, but I checked and they are off.

Does anyone have any idea how to solve this by chance?

Thanks so much for your time.

Good afternoon I own the new HP Pavilion Gaming 15AK003NS and Im having serious issues with the keyboard, not phisically. I already sent 3 times the latop to repair since is still under warranty and my keyboard was changed the first time but the 2nd and 3rd did not made any changes since they could not reproduce the same problem. My problem is that the keyboard (normally AWSDK keys) get activated during my gaming sessions. This does not happen very often, is hard to reproduce but after 4 hours of playing I had the issue 3-4 times. It happened across different games like Counter Strike Global Offensive or Blade and Soul. Im not sure if its the temperature or maybe a driver or is really a hardware issue. I already ran the following tests: External keyboard Results: No issue here after long hours of playing.Wipe and Format computer Results: Issue still remains, Installed the game the first thing to try to eliminate any incompatible third party software that may cause the issue. But no luck here....Upgraded Drivers to latest and Bios Result: Issue still remains, even with latest drivers....Other software like Word Results: Unable to replicate the problem here since only happened to me while gaming, tried with Word but I dont use 4 hours of intensive Word like gaming.... Im totally out of ideas here and to be honest HP support in Spain at least w... I'm having a very weird problem here since this morning, and been trying to get it working ever since.

My laptop thinks there's a button being pressed (I have no clue which button exactly), while it isn't. I can type normally but, for example, Alt + Tab is constantly being interrupted and only flickers for a split second before I can even see anything. Also, the previews in the Aero Startbar are very short and just flicker for a split second when hovering my mouse over the programs.

It's extremely hard to give a proper explanation, therefore I will add in this video I made this morning while trying to get my game to work. You should have enough time to read the error message popping up at the PIN-section.

What I've tried so far:
- Restart my laptop
- Vacuum cleaned my keyboard (for possible crumbles stuck under the buttons, maybe)
- Keylogged my keystrokes with multiple keyloggers, but only ONE of them came up with a strange result:
---> 19:55:56, IN WINDOW "Confirm" USER Casper PRESSED:

---> 19:56:11, IN WINDOW "Free Keylogger 3.9" USER Casper PRESSED:

---> 19:56:16, IN WINDOW "Report Viewer" USER Casper PRESSED:

---> 19:56:30, IN WINDOW "Confirm" USER Casper PRESSED:

- Opened up my keyboard to see if there are any interrupted circuits, ended up that I can't even access the area right under my keys (for the wires).

If necessary, more information would ... Read more

A:Keys not physically stuck

Um I have news for ya: a keylogger is a bad thing. You want to get rid of that using a virus scan and or malware/adware program(s) A keylogger is a malicious program that can track every keystroke(s) you are making. And that includes if you do online banking and are entering user name and password information. Scan with the following programs:download and run them:

Downloading AdwCleaner
SUPERAntiSpyware - Downloading File

Sometimes, when I release the key after holding it for some time, game doesn't register this.In other words, it acts like key is still pressed. Having this issue both on Windows 10 and Linux Mint in different games. i didn't damage my keyboard with coffe or stuff like that. So it must be a software issue. Please, help

I have an HP Spectre. The arrow keys are stuck in their fn mode. Instead of touching the down arrow and it going down one line it pages down. Instead of pushing the left arrow key and he going left one space it goes "home." All four arrow keys do this and it is making it impossible to operate spread sheet programs, etc. How do I stop this from happening?

I have a g15 keyboard, older style (blue LED and flip up screen), that many of the keys are stuck. Awhile back, I took all the keys off to clean the entire keyboard. After cleaning I put all the keys back on with not much hassle. Ever since then, I notice that many of the G-keys on the left are stuck.( really hard to press down and will not come up after pressing) Is there a way to fix this so it will work better? I checked the keys and there is nothing in the way. The keys are also in the right position. Should I apply a little amount of light oil to help it? What do you recommend?

I dropped a bit of water on the keyboard - machine works fine BUT keys on the left side are sticky and the second problem is that it is so hard to put these keys back. I bought the laptop 2 days ago and I think I would exchange it.

Any advice regarding this problem - I would appreciate feedback about placing the keys back - it has been impossible to put them back - they do not snap - so frustrating - I think Dell beats HP heere

A:hp laptop = keyboard - keys stuck

If you removed the keys and cannot put them back, I think you are not eligible to exchange it as defective... you broke it. Please provide the manufacturer and model number so we can help you find a replacement keyboard and service information.

I have a gateway ne series laptop and I recently had a small spill on my keyboard. Needless to say, the entire keyboard shorted and now must be replaced. Until then, I still want to be able to use my laptop using a usb keyboard. My only issue is that the 'social networking' key is constantly sending signals as if I had pressed the key. I managed to delete the social networking app but the key remapped itself to the start menu. Since doing that, I downloaded a classic start menu program so now all it does is open and close the start menu in the corner. I'd like to know if there's some way to disable the hardware keyboard or somehow have the computer stop accepting keystrokes from the broken keyboard? I have the means to disconnect the ribbon cable for the keyboard but I've been informed it'll fail the 'post-test' and not boot up if I disconnect it. Thanks for any advice.

A:Disable Keyboard With Stuck keys

If you can get to Control Panel and just disable laptop's keyboard (don't uninstall it) it might stay that way even after reboot.

Okay, I've had this problem for almost a month now and I've yet to find a solution.

When I'm running certain program, my computer seems to think that the shift and ctrl keys are in a pressed position even though they're not. I didn't realize it until I was trying to configure my tablet buttons to keyboard commands and the input box said that I was pressing the ctrl and shift keys. This also occurs when I'm playing fullscreen games or using flash. Otherwise, its fine, I haven't had any problems with other applications.

I know this is not sticky keys because I don't even have that option on my computer, and its not my keyboard as it works fine most of the time, its only with some programs that it occurs. Could anyone help me

A:Ctrl and Shift keys 'stuck'

I have a HP DV2550SE someone brought in that was beeping randomly and continously.
After a few minutes I figured out it was acting as if keys were stuck down and that was causing the continuous beeping.
If I go into the BIOS of the screen, I can see the time flying though the numbers as if the F5/F6 key was being held down.
This is the second keyboard I have put on this laptop...any ideas of what could be causing this? (Really hoping it isnt a motherboard issue)

My ASUS EEE PC laptop keyboard has gone crazy. A few months ago I noticed that keys were getting stuck randomly, typing all Cs or colons or commas. I could usually clear this problem with the delete key and the problem would stop for a while during the session but it would eventually come back.

Then a few weeks later I notice that some of the keys would not work at all. Again this was random as some days certain keys wouldn't work and then other day they would start working again. Recently many of the keys completely stopped working.

A couple days ago eith one key either sticks or the whole keyboard won't work.

I have tried using canned air, popping keys off and cleaning them and even resetting the ribbon. I have now attached a USB keyboard and disabled the notebook keyboard and this is working but it is a bit of a hassle.

A:Keyboard keys are intermitantly stuck or not working

Perhaps I am jumping the gun on this one, but it sounds like this is a permanent hardware issue that will require either a new keyboard or mobo.

Have you tried going into device manager and completely uninstalling the drivers for the built in keyboard, then restarting?

The answers to this is probably no, but I'll try anyway

So I know a fool who spilt some stuff all over their laptop keyboard and the keys can be a bit sticky, especially the F keys. Now, one time in ten, on boot, it goes crazy at the bios screen with one constant beep that will not stop until you force the power down with the on button. Simply swiping all over the keys in a random fashion usually allows it to boot next time.

Is there any way to avoid this happeneing without totally disabling the keyboard as he operates a dual boot system and need to be able to select the correct OS

Silly question, isn't it

A:Avoid stuck keys messing with boot

Not silly at all...
Many laptop replacement keyboards are actually reasonably priced though and that would be my suggestion.
