After Uninstalling Adobe CS5, Adobe Folders and Files Remain

Q: After Uninstalling Adobe CS5, Adobe Folders and Files Remain

Dear Forum,

I know I have to do either a clean install, or an in place upgrade install soon . However, I just would like to repair my CS5.0 Encore that started acting strange lately (no new programs/hardware installed). I uninstalled/reinstalled the whole suite several times (using Control Panel > Programs and Features, Adobe Clean Tool, and CCleaner64). I noticed that several Adobe folders remained (In Program Files, Program Files (x86), and in Common Files within those folders). I even had PrPro.exe with a dozen dll-s in one folder (which, of course, didn't work). I have two other Adobe programs (Adobe Media Player, and Adobe Reader X).

My question: What would happen if after a thorough uninstall of all three programs (maybe RevoPro, instead of Programs and Features?) and after having no Adobe product installed in the system, simply delete all folders/files that have anything "Adobe"? Would still be shared dll files that needed by other non-Adobe programs? Would the registry cleaner delete all the bad registry entries that created by simply deleting the Adobe files? If it works, I would do the in-place repair install of Win 7. Or I will be advised to try this just before I am ready for a clean install () in case, if this ruins the system.

I would greatly appreciate any helpful advice (and I understand that might not be an answer to these questions).

Preferred Solution: After Uninstalling Adobe CS5, Adobe Folders and Files Remain

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: After Uninstalling Adobe CS5, Adobe Folders and Files Remain

Just delete the leftover files , then use ccleaner to work on the registry , defrag a few times and you should be fine. If you still have problems come back and we`ll gladly help you do a clean install.

Hi Guys,

I want to completely uninstall Creative Suite 5.5 before I install CS6, but there seems to be several different methods for achieving this. I used the CS5 uninstall program and it uninstalled all the main programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.), then I ran the Adobe Cleaner Utility, but after restarting I still see a lot of Adobe programs left behind (see attached screenshot).

I'm wanting to know if I can just go ahead and uninstall of these programs, too?

I have tried to uninstall adobe reader 8.1.2 I have looked at other forms and done what they have suggested like downloading uninstaller programs. But every time I do and I can see the program I am trying to get rid of but it always goes to this message ?the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.? Then asks to find the path and has a place where I put it in at and it automatically has this in it ?C:\Users\Andrew\AppData\Local\Adobe\Updater5\Install\reader8rdr-en_US\? but I cannot find this anywhere on my comp. I am not on a network that I know of so I do not know how this happened or what to do now.

This message comes up:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.

I tried browsing but couldn't get to file.

I tried manually deleting files under Adobe, but could not get rid of all of them.

The reason I wanted to uninstall was because it was not working and I wanted to reinstall. This is the 2nd time I've had to do this. I have important docs that I cannot open or download.

I am having a little difficulty, i have removed adobe reader 9 & 10 to install adobe x, all is fine after a few trips with the install cant read reg keys and giving an error...

if anyone has this problem i used a small app call secres (which restore the default security to the registry) if u need it drop me a pm, anyways i digress..

now i cant remove the old adobe directories because of a cpl of dll's .. ive tried to delete them in safe mode, ive tried regsvr etc all to no avail, i just dont get access to them at all... its not a biggie but its annoying...

anyone any ideas ?

A:uninstalling adobe reader

Welcome Thumper, Removing directories which have files/programs that are active is difficult but can be accomplished. Adobe has a couple of dll's that are loaded at startup time. If you have removed adobe via the installed programs removal process, then they could still be active.

One way would be to stop their process vial the manage option and services. you can stop the process and disable it. on reboot, it then would not be active and you should be able to delete it.

Normally the install of adobe x will remove the older adobe drivers and programs.

Outside of that, you can restart in safe mode and that SHOULD then allow you to remove the directories.

Hey all,

I am having a helluva time with CS4 right now, and I'm having two issues.

1) The licensing information for everything that requires a license is not accepting the license, which I called Adobe (who was no help) and they confirmed that the license was working properly on there end.

2) CS4 will not uninstall so I can re-install. When I try to uninstall I get an message that says "Stop running this script? A script on this page is causing your web browser to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer might become unresponsive. Yes or No?" When no is selected 3 times a new error comes up saying "System Check Critical errors were found in setup for Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection: The installer database is invalid: please re-install the product from the original media. Please see the Setup log file for details. Click quit to exit setup.

2B) When yes is selected the status bar on preparing to uninstall goes to the end as if to be finished and just sits there. The program responds however it just sits there.

I'm really at a loss, have been on the phone with Adobe for 5 hours today alone and I'm running out of patience with them. 2 questions I have is does anyone know how to fix this, and does anyone know where the Setup Log is located for CS4? If I can find it maybe I can post that result and someone who knows logs might be able to see what I cannot see. Thanks.

It will bring you to a second menu where it give you options to either, reinstall, add components and uninstall. <--- uninstalling it this way should not give you problems

Also, seriously consider dumping McAfee and use Avast, AVG, or even the new Microsoft Security Essentials instead. Protection will be better, and your computer will run quicker too.

I have no idea, but dont bother contacting support, as Adobe considers CS3 "Outdated" and will charge you $40 per hour for support, and will take their sweet time reading through scripts, only in the end to tell you something simple.... they are a bunch of crooks IMHO.

thanks for the help. I've sort of have found a temporary solution to this problem but i would like to be able to remove this software from my computer

A:Error 1324 when uninstalling Adobe Acrobat

On the Adobe website, somewhere, is an 8 page list of steps to manually uninstall, clean, cleanse, purify your computer of Acrobat. As I remember it there is one error in the instructions and it is in the name of a folder. It is listed as plural i.e. "services" when the actual folder is "service." As I remember it the command is in bold type. If you get it right Windows will display the deleted files, about 5 of them, one after the other. If you get it wrong "plural" the screen refreshes.

Just for laughs check control panel, add/remove, for some garbage files. If they are there they probably are your problem. If so, download Windows Install Clean Up from M$. It in one click may solve your problem without going thru the 8 page checklist.

Just remembered, the instructions tell you to delete certain files. Windows says no can do. The files are loaded in memory so reboot to Windows safe mode, then delete them.

When you did the recovery, it apparently didn't rename your old User Folder (HP Administrator in this case). So when Windows was being re-installed, as a folder named HP Administrator already existed, it created a new one named HP Administrator.ComputerName.
Just move the stuff you want from the old HP Administrator folder to the new HP Administrator.ComputerName folder. Mostly just move stuff from My Documents (may be called HP Administrators Documents), Favorites (Internet Explorer), Desktop (files that were on the old Desktop, best not to move shortcuts though).
If you use Firefox, your old profile and bookmarks will be here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\randomname.default
The profile under Administrator.ComputerName will have a different randomname.default folder, so you can't just copy the folder. You can copy the contents of this folder to your new profile folder, overwriting the current profile,

If you get any Access Denied messages, How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP

I don't know why programs won't install. THey shouldn't care what the actual name of the User folder is. The exact wording of the error messages and what the program is might help someone figure out what's going on.

I am relatively new to graphic design and imaging, but I have a question regarding my use of Adobe Illustrator CS3 and Adobe Photoshop CS3.

I have designed a logo in Adobe Illustrator CS3, and saved it as both an ".AI" file and an ".EPS" file.

Now, when I open the ".EPS" file in Adobe Photoshop CS3, it appears that the bright cyan (it's a white logo with one of the characters in bright cyan) is duller than what it seemed to be in Adobe Illustrator CS3.

After that, most of the other Adobe programs were affected. When I opened some, they would say that some files are missing or my license has expired. Some started asking for serial number or to register.

When I opened Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 it said Photoshop Elements Help was missing and there were missing icons on the right side.

So I uninstalled and reinstalled the programs. I downloaded some but they can?t be installed. It always says some files are missing.

What is the cause of the problem?

I installed Adobe Acrobat about 2-3 weeks ago as part of a CreativeSuite package. I have yet to use it. However, just last night, when I tried to open a folder full of pictures on my desktop, for some reason, it attempted to install Adobe Acrobat. I cancelled the installation (acrobat was already installed) and the folder opened. I've tried some experiments now and it seems like every time I try to open a REGULAR FOLDER or a COMPRESSED FOLDER (ARCHIVE) ... ON MY DESKTOP ONLY, my computer attempts to install adobe acrobat. When I hit cancel the folder finally opens. I haven't waited to see what would happen if I let the computer install it cause I just spent hours cleaning my hard drive so my windows installation is sparkling and I don't want to mess that up w/ 2 copies of acrobat.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm pretty clueless on what's causing this to happen...maybe its a messed up registry value?

I can't answer all of your questions, but data on a CD is read only, you won't be able to save the edited file on that CD.
It can only be saved on the hard drive & then burned to CD again, if necessary.

What's the big difference if any between shockwave player and flash player? I see both in the control panel.

However, one says I have flash player 10, but I have just now downloaded their newest version 10.1. And that's been the second time at least for the same update. ??

The other says I have shockwave player 11.5. Both are Adobe.

By the way, in the control panel and over on the right side, there's a column that lists how often used and also where you can delete a program. But with the new version, altho it's listed as loaded on the left side, the right is blank except for the word delete. In other words, no listing for size like all the other programs.

Hello everyone,

Everytime I use Adobe Bridge CS3, it generates two folders in my 'Documents' folder. The two folders it generates are 'AdobeStockPhotos' and 'Version Cue'. I have no use for these folders, and it annoys me everytime they are generated. Is there any way to disable Adobe Bridge CS3 from generating them everytime it is opened?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Is is possible to re-configure folders of digital pics within Elements 3.0?

Of course, I can move folders with Windows Explorer but how would Elements 3.0 re-associate the actual file structure and the "memorized" file structure

Thanks in advance!

This is an issue I have seen frequently in vista, cannot seem to circumvent, and makes me want to pull my hair out.

Everytime CS4 or any CS updater runs, and completes updates, a duplicate documents folder is created in the original root directory where the documents folder used to be located at: C:\\Users\User Name. Despite differences bwteen the properties and directory locations of the two documents folders, the folders are somehow linked and the second cannot be eliminated without obstructing the functionality of the first.

I have noticed the same issue with other updates and new software installations, as well, when a user's shell folder - in this case documents - has been relocated to another drive, volume, or partition. My documents folder is currently located on another volume/hard drive. Since, the amount of data I work with regularly cannot be housed on the OS drive, relocating the first of the two documents folder back to the orginal root directory on C:\\ is not an option.

Please advise if this sounds familiar - or if anyone has discovered a workaround for this nuisance of a problem in vista.

Hi there
I've just installed Foxit PDF reader -- It works fine -- now am uninstalling Adobe pdf reader.
Don't know whats up with adobe these days --if I could find a decent alternative to Photoshop I would --Note the GIMP is fine but I NEED photoshop unfortunately --it's still the best out there in spite of Adobe's messing up the latest releases of its software.

A:Foxit Reader works fine -- uninstalling Adobe pdf reader

I've used Foxit reader, but it wasn't totally compatible with Adobe Acrobat created PDF files, but in most cases it sufficed quite well. As for Photoshop replacements, there are a few others available and PaintShop Pro is not a bad alternative, though when Corel bought it out initially, it completely stuffed things up. I understand that it's fixed a lot of update issues etc in that time and it's leagues cheaper than Photoshop.

I have downloaded Adobe 6 but it will not work when I open pdf's. I use Adobe Acrobat 5 to create pdf's and it is overriding 6. Can I do anything to correct this.

I'm only taking a guess here, but since you mentioned your ability to create pdf's, I'm assuming you have the full version and your DL'ed v.6 is only a reader version. If that's the case, maybe the full version (5) defaults over v.6 (since it sounds like you might have both installed).

Just a guess.

Hey guys,

I keep getting BSODs whenever I'm running any of the following Adobe applications:Photoshop
After Effects

Beyond that, there is no pattern I'm able to discern that's causing the crashes. It doesn't only happen when I'm doing something resource intensive like rendering or exporting, it's even happened when I'm not at the computer. I'll work for 2 hours and everything will be fine, and then it'll crash several times within an hour.

I'm getting different errors almost every time, as well, including:
0x00000101 (0x00000000c0000005, 0xFFFFF800034BC5A2, 0xFFFFF880218A6B30, 0x0000000000000000)
0x00000124 (0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFFA8019959028, 0x00000000B0800000, 0x0000000000040151)
0x0000003B (0x0000000000000019, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF88002FE6180, 0x0000000000000004)

I've attached the DM Log Collector output, as well.

I've been trying to diagnose this for weeks, with no luck. I've run hardware tests on the RAM and GPUs, and everything performs fine, so I'm thinking this is some kind of software issue.

Any help would be very deeply appreciated, thank you!

How old are the programs, what versions? Could it be your computer is too good for them?
