What Kind of Laptop Should I buy?

Q: What Kind of Laptop Should I buy?

So I have been thinking of buying a new laptop. The one I'm thinking about is the Alienware 15. I don't really play games but I do play Shellshock live which makes my current computer run hot. I'm a Veterinarian so I may us this laptop at work at times. Really the only reason I want this laptop is because it looks cool. I know that's not really a good reason but hey if it will work why not get something that looks good that I can stream shows off of and play a game here and there. My question is would someone who knows computers recommend this or for me to go with non-gaming computer. Thanks

Preferred Solution: What Kind of Laptop Should I buy?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there. I'm not so knowledgeable about computers or programs so here's my problem. After I placed my classmate's flashdisk in the USB port of my laptop, the speed suddenly dropped. I currently upgraded my internet connection on my Gateway 5300 solo series
witch came with the integrated network card. I purchased a Wireless -G Notebook Adapter with Speedbooster witch fits in to my pc card slot. Works fine with my Netgear 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router Model WTG624, I was told I could bridge the connection between my new Wireless Connection and my integrated Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection witch is just a direct slot for an Ethernet cable. Anyone know how I can do this?
I bridged them and ran a cable from laptop to playstation and nothing is happening Im sure I need a crossover cable or something, so I tired to hook up a Linksys Ethernet Cable/DSL Router and I still do not think I'm getting any internet to the router, I don't' have a cable to try from router to ps2 (playstation2) but at least I think I should have some lights going.

thank you

A friend of mine gave me his laptop to look at after it stopped functioning this summer. It's an HP pavillion dv1000, and I guess the issue is that it will not power on, nor show any indication of power even if plugged in. He said it got left in his car for a couple weeks last summer, during times where the heat was pretty intense, especially in a car.
I was wondering if anyone else had encountered anything like this in the past, or perhaps knows what the main issue might be. Thanks in advance!

According to the specs in your link, the TV does not have RGB inputs. It has "Component Video (YPbPr)". Y, Pb, Pr is very different from R, G, B video. You would need some type of video converter box with active electronics and not some kind of simple cable, with different connectors on each end.

Hi. I've had several frustrating days with my Toshiba Satellite 1805-S204 laptop. First, the computer wouldn't boot up because the "file windows\system32\config\system is either missing or corrupted". I also got some random bad checksum errors when i restarted. I hunted around the Net for a bit, found this was a somewhat common problem, and tried to run the Recovery Console from my startup disks. However, the laptop didn't recognize those either; I ended up completely trashing my hard drive and reformatting everything.
Now my present problem: I could get the computer to turn on and to get to Windows ok, but it will crash after a few minutes, and then won't turn on again for several minutes or hours (plugged in with the AC adapter). The laptop recognizes that it is plugged into the adapter (ie. the light turns on); when I hit the power on button, the light indicating that the computer is turned on is also green.

Think there is problem with an internal battery?

Thanks very much.

I arrived home from my parents yesterday and booted up my laptop to check a few things for work. It started up fine, during the course of the hour or so I was on there Norton detected and blocked an attack on my computer...had a quick look at the details and it said it had blocked a malicious attack etc. Didn't think anything of it and carried on. Finished what I was doing and closed my laptop down. This morning I attempted to turn it on, and got a "Your computer wasn't shut down right, do you want to start system repair or start normally" windows screen. I clicked "start normally". I get a brief black screen with white text saying "Windows is loading files". Then I get but onto the system repair screen. I tried this several times with the same result. So I let the system repair continue to its end, it came up with the conclusion "can't fix it". I then get an HP recovery manager screen with a number of options, including Microsoft System restore, System recovery, etc. I tried system restore (there was a restore file from 5 days ago)....this didn't work. I tried restoring an even earlier file....this didn't work. I then tried to boot in safe mode, safe mode doesnt work I just get the "Windows loading files" screen again. I have no idea what has happened here, can anyone offer any help? Some files are backed up (but very few), although according to the HP recovery manager I can back these up from that sc... Read more

Hi, I have problems with my laptop and would appreciate some help. Pardon my English. ^^

It all started when I went to this unknown site that supposedly was able to watch some drama shows on; apparently, it gave me a virus/trojan that keeps redirecting my google searches on both IE/Firefox. After this, I ran a malwarebytes scan and then an avast scan nothing was found. Now i am getting a spam load of URL:MAL detected from avast and everytime i click scan from avast, i would get Bsod saying Bad_Pool_caller. I stupidly download and installed another AV (AVG Free edition & Adware SE) because i was hoping to uninstall my avast since it kept giving me Bsod. I ran an ESET Online scan before installing avg. It was able to detect 15 TrojanDownload.java. After that i proceeded to restart laptop. Now no programs will run and i cant uninstall anything because it keeps giving me an error saying file either already deleted or window installer not there. My system restore dont seem to work either since it keep saying antivirus is affecting the restoring process.

Please i would like some help.

Thank you

A:Laptop fails to open any kind programs

Hello and welcome to TSF.

If you still need assistance please follow these instructions to get the logs we need.

Please download and run the following tool to help allow other programs to run. There are 3 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one. You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Admin

If you have problem running those, try these:

Once the tool has run, do NOT reboot the machine, and then try once again to run DDS and GMER.

You will likely see a message from this rogue telling you the file is infected. Ignore the message. Leave the message OPEN, do not close the message. Run rkill repeatedly until it's able to do its job. This may take a few tries. Once the tool has run, do NOT reboot the machine, and then try once again to run DDS and GMER.

If for some reason the machine reboots, repeat the process. Again, try not to restart the machine.

After putting my beloved 10 years old or so Toshiba on lifesupport 2 years ago, it shows signs of getting too hot again too often.
Now I don't know what to replace it with, I am so used to XP and I see so many problems with Windows 8, would I be better off trying to find a Windows7 laptop? Can"t afford a Mac and it is probably too hard to learn its OS.
I never play games, or download anything but use it for email and family pix organizing. I need 4 USB ports, because the new computers don't seem to have a modem, needed for dial-up to get some kind of device unfortunately.
Any advise what brand is reliable? Is there a laptop with matte screen still? Will I have to replace my old programs, like Word and Paintshop Pro?
I' ll appreciate any advise.

Hello I have been fighting issues with my external monitor not turning back on after sleep. I have it set to hybrid mode, I understand the other fix is to set it to discrete mode but my other laptop of the same type does wake up after moving the mouse in hybrid mode. I tried multiple things. 1.) Updated Intel Management Drivers and Software 2.) Updated Thunderbolt Software 3.) Used Graphic Driver Uninstaller and to no avail.  I also installed every update for Windows 10 on their web site. The other fix is to enable and disable the NVIDIA driver in the and that wakes up the HDMI port it seems, but that should not be the case, I would like it to just turn on with the flick of the mouse or button like my other laptop. Is it a failing graphic card of Nvidia or Intels end? I do notice after the monitor sleeps the NVIDIA drivers control panel settings go missing. I already uninstalled completely and reinstalled the drivers but my computer is still having this problem. Are their any suggestions on Lenovo's end or fixes? I bought this laptop from Amazon and I also joined a 3 year support service from them.

A:Lenovo P50 - HDMI External Monitor Not Working After Sleep (My Other Laptop of the Same Kind does)

Have you compared the Power Option settings on the two laptops to see if they match as well?Do the two systems share the same monitor, and if not, how is your monitor configured, does it have an option to set the input source to HDMI vs. automatically detecting the source? When in the mode where the screen does not turn back on, what happens if you press the following key combination Windows Key + Shift + Ctrl + B  (forces a reset of graphics cards) do you hear a beep and your screen wake up?     That key combination sometimes works to wake the monitors, and while not a solution, it may be a work around until you find a permanent one. Best of luck,

Cyrix 266 proccesor
intel chip set 82430TX

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie here, so I apologize if this post isn't perfect. But don't worry, I haven't posted any logs yet.

I am running Windows XP

I have had a weird problem for a long time (maybe 6 months). Everytime I open a program, I get a pop up saying

"C:\Windows\system32\skqncbib.dll" is not a valid image and I need to check my installation disk.

I just ignored it for a long time. I also had the problem that when I started up my comp. I had to run explorer.exe from the task manager. It wouldn't load on its own.

So yesterday I decided to try and "fix" the problem...

I saw a bunch of stuff on combofix. So I tried it and ignored the disclaimers. (I know... I know...)

Well, it quarantined my explorer.exe file (turned it into explorer.exe.vir)

How do I get this back and how do I fix those pesky pop-ups and the underlying problem?

... and no... I don't have my installation disk.

Thx in advance

When Windows 7 is released, what kind of computers do you think will be available? I mean, touch is a huge part of it, so there would be little point in having 7 on a PC with no touch capabilities. I'm thinking that most PCs will be like the current HP touchsmart, everything built in, but do you think there would be normal tower PCs, and have stand-a-lone monitors, with a touch screen (how would it connect? A normal screen connection + USB? Or maybe by then HDMI>DVI).

I'm just curious as to what we'll be buying with 7 pre-installed or ready.

A:What Kind of PCs?

absolutely - touch is a new technology that not a lot of folks are going to make a lot of use of - however, big bulky boxes like the one I am currently on (and the one I am currently planning to upgrade in about 6 months - yes, already!) will still be around.

Not everyone is going to like touch, and I don't foresee it becoming a *major* player in the PC market until you get a hybrid of touch *and* voice controlled - then you'll really have a spiffy PC.

Of course, by then, we'll also be able to control them directly by neural caps monitoring out brainwaves too

My issues are strange. I get about 5 minutes after boot to get into any application. I have a 'black bar" across my menu selections. I did have the super slow computer and google search results going weird places.

My spyware search found only "DSO exploit" and i thought i resolved this but apparently not.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Windows Automatic Updates is turned off, not by my choice. Cannot turn it back the usual courses. Adware and spyware pop-ups. Computer itself is running verrrrrrrry slowly. Cleaned it up a bit with virus scans but still

jus wondering how much ram is a good amount to have. obviously 128mb is too small but what are most people running.

Obviously we'd all like as much ram as are mobo could take but thats not practical so what is a good compromise for playing games smoothly.l

I need to replace some RAM on an old pc - it's got an AMD64 3400 chip in it and it has an american megatrends m/b.

I'm confused by the types and sizes of ram ... I think I have DDR1 RAM but am not sure.

Anyone tell me what 'kind' of RAM i need (DDR1, SDRAM etc) and how to figure out whether it's DIMM or SIMM or something else???

I have a problem with my brower(s). Its a redirecting issue. I've ran superantispyware, malwarebytes, and spybot search and destroy, and all three have found trojans and issues that I believe I have eliminated. But now theres another issue.
When I do a search on both firefox and IE, I get redirected to a different site. This happens also in safemode with networking.
I'm to the point where I'm deleting startup entries in MSCONFIG, and disabling add-ons. But something tells me I'm directing my attention to the wrong place because nothing has helped.
Any ideas??

Please run the tool here How to remove Google RedirectsWhen it is done, a log file should be created on your C: drive called "TDSSKiller.txt" please copy and paste the contents of that file here.Rerun MBAM (MalwareBytes) like this:Open MBAM in normal mode and click Update tab, select Check for Updates, when doneclick Scanner tab, select Quick scan and scan (normal mode). After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log and Reboot into normal mode.
