Preferred Solution: Upon reboot Windows 7 Professional SP1 activation is lost - Alternate windows key renders the same result

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Can anyone help me how to bypass this and use my computer again or should i hv to reinstall windows again with someother product key? Please help.

Thanks

A:Windows xp professional 1a activation

We can't help you bypass the activation process. If you used a legitimate Product Id (not one from a friend or other source), then you just need to activate either via the web or by calling Microsoft.

Other than that, all I can do is close this thread.

Need help please:

After I switch on computer and XP Pro loads up it gets to the page where you select which account you want to access. When I select my account the system gives a propmt of 'Windows needs to be activated' and prompts for a 'yes' or 'no' response. After clicking on 'yes' it takes you to a blue coloured window which indicates that windows is already active and prompts on clicking on 'OK' to exit screen.
Then when you click on 'OK' it says system is logging off and it takes you back to your account selection screen and this whole process is then repeated.

Can someone advise if this is a known XP problem &/or worm infection and how do you go about fixing it.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Harry.

A:Windows XP Professional Activation

Activate Windows located in start > all programs > accessories > system tools may have somehow gotten into your startup.

If you can at all try to do start > run and type msconfig and look in your startup tab to see if it's in there.

Can you boot into safe mode? ( by pressing F8 during bootup )

Anyone help me to solve this problem.
Thanks.

The serial number will not work. You need to use the product key that is on your COA sticker. On a laptop it is on the bottom and on a desktop it is usually on the rear of the box.

First of all, apologies if this problem has been posted before and solved - I did look but I couldn't find it.
Second of all, I know next to nothing about computers and wouldn't have them if I didn't need them for college work. Because of that, I don't know what information you might need to know - so I'm just going to put everything I can think of!

I have an HP Pavilion g6 laptop that I have had for several years. Around Christmas time the hard drive died and I had to get it replaced. That all went fine except for the fact that I'm from England (where I bought the computer) and at that point I was on in Canada. Obviously I didn't think to bring my windows disks with me. And I wasn't going back to England any time soon. The tech guy who replaced my hard drive told me it was no problem and put Linux on the laptop so I could use it until I could get my windows disks. Or I could just keep using Linux.

As I was traveling around, I didn't have an address to get anyone to send my disks to me until a month ago, when I settled in Mexico for a while. My father bought me new Windows 7 disks from the US as they would get to me quicker.
I managed to figure out how to partition my drive and everything so that I was able to install windows without removing Linux (as I couldn't find out how to do it any other way. No one seemed to understand why I would want to remove Linux!). Everything installed correctly except for the fact I wasn't able to get online to activate it. I typed in the wi... Read more

A:Windows 7 Professional Product Key Invalid for Activation

This might seem roundabout but doing a System Restore to a point within the 30 day limit would work to allow you to activate. Wherever you are, it might pay to just pay the heavy toll to call MS to activate and some 3rd party phone services offer cheap rates if you have access to any phone.

Hi,

I have just taken an image of my computer and used Norton Ghost to convert it to a VHD file. After going through a mini-setup type configuration wizard in which I do not have any option to activate Windows or input a valid product key, it leaves me at the logon screen.

My first and main problem is that when I try to log on, it tells me Windows is activated. I used BartPE to overwrite logon.scr with cmd.exe and ran %systemroot%\System32\oobe\msoobe /a. The activation window appeared and told me that my copy of Windows was already activated. I have manually edited the registry as told on Microsoft.com to "deactivate" my copy of Windows to no avail.

As well as this, I was wondering whether it is possible to transfer the domain of my physical computer onto this virtual machine as well. I accept that this is probably not possible as I would assume that the virtual machine would need the exact same hardware as my physical computer, but if it is I would like to know how.

Thanks,

Richard

I have been using this Dell XPS tower as the original owner for several years. I have upgraded the graphics card, RAM, and internal HD over the last 12 months or so. The internal HD was upgraded/cloned from the original HD that came with the machine, this last Saturday night (5/11/13). After this was done the system ran fine with no errors for about 12 hours and then the first of many Activation Errors, not genuine software dialog boxes popped up. I tried the MS telephone support for activation/genuine software issues and supposedly the error was fixed. Later that evening, another dialog boxed popped up. Under the System Properties, it says that "Windows is activated"

Anyone know why Windows XP would want to be re-activated on almost every reboot? The system is virus/spyware free now, but did have some spyware before. It activates OK but reboot once or twice and it'll ask to activate again.

I've tried this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312295/en-us
And a repair install of Windows but neither has helped.

Its a Windows XP Home upgrade, FYI.

Some months ago I upgraded my Window 8.1 partition (C: Drive) to Windows 10 after receiving the option for a free upgrade from Microsoft. WIndows 10 worked fine (activated) for several months but recently I have started to get a message in the bottom right-hand corner of the desktop stating: "Activate Windows, Go to Setting to activate Windows". I tried doing so but got an error message (see attachment). I found the full key using Belarc Advisor and tried entering that key but got the same result.

The only other problem that might be relevant is that I cannot install KB3105213 (see attachment) and wonder if this has caused the problem. Help please. Ken

Here is the story, please help.

My Computer came pre-installed with Windows 7 and when Windows 8 Pro was launched I had bought it initially and also got the Media Center key as free offer. I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro but never used and activated Windows Media Center. Recently I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro and by bad that I used the media center key to add features. later I realised that the key was expired after Feb 2013. Now the Windows activation is lost everytime I restarts it asks me to Activate. the old key is replaced with the Media Center key and as it is expired it asks to activate. I tried to follow the steps to remove Media Center but I guess it applies for Windows 8 Pro because when i try the steps, it never give me option to keep files, settings and apps only gives the option to keep nothing. Any help, I dont need Media Center, I just want to go back to Windows 8.1 Pro, I want to keep my files, settings and apps.

Thanks, please advice.

A:Windows 8.1 Pro Activation Lost

Hey i would just bite the bullet and buy new mediacenter pack key from Microsoft, at least here in finland it is just 9,99? so compared to that extra work what installing all your apps and backing up your data 9,99? isn't that bad deal.

Other thing that you could try is to call to Microsoft helpline and ask that if they could re-activate your media center key, but I bet that just by calling to their helpline and telling all this would cost almost the same amount of money so...

It would be more easy to you just to go and buy new media center pack key than explaining to Microsoft that why didn't you activate your previous key before that deadline.

Hi and welcome to TSG ,

Sometimes you will find the 25 character key on the side / back of the casing on a Microsoft sticker.

Failing that a phone call to Microsoft to explain may get you a replacement - have the receipt to hand if you still have it otherwise you may well need some persuasive powers.

A:windows 7 professional to enterprise, would I lost my files?

Hi Mert, welcome to the forum.

Truthfully, I don't know the answer, but an educated guess would be that yes, you probably could lose some of your personal files, as well as possibly losing your Favorites. (You might also lose some of your customizations and settings.)

Whether or not this is correct though, is not the reason that I posted. It was more to advise you to back up all of your personal files and Favorites on an external device, so that if any file should be lost or corrupted or not transferred properly, you will have a true copy of it.

And you might also want to set a Restore Point just before you initiate the installation, just in case there are any problems.

Hi everyone,

I had activated my copy of windows 7 two days ago by simply entering the key I received for the copy I bought.

Everything was alright until I had to do a system restore to a restore point 4 days ago today.

Now my windows thinks its not validated anymore. However, I no longer have the option of entering the CD key in the system options where I should usually be able to. It is like my system reverted the fact that I activated my copy, but not the fact that it didn't need activation anymore (so that the option is not there anymore, but its also not activated...)

How can I fix this?
Thanks

A:Windows lost activation after system restore

What exactly is telling you that Win7 is not activated any more?

Type CMD in Start search box, rightclick result "Run as Admin" and type: slmgr -dlv for exact activation status.

If not activated, type: slmgr -ato to attempt activation.

If this fails, type: slmgr -upk to return activation back to trial state so key can be reinstalled.

A:Changed Motherboard Lost Windows Activation

@Kit42 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Sorry, but I don't have very good news for you ...The version of the OS that came preinstalled on your PC was the HP OEM version and the product key for activating that was contained in the UEFI firmware of the original motherboard.  When you discarded that, you effectively threw away that product key -- and HP is under no obligation to furnish you a second one. My suggestion is that you contact HP Customer Support directly to see if they are willing to issue you a second product key:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while! If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836Good Luck

Hi

I lost my windows cd and packaging when I moved house, I wanted to do a reinstall but obviously didn't have the activation key. I got some duff advice about the product ID number being the activation code and burned a copy of Windows 7 from digital rivers.

I have since performed the reinstall with formatted hard drives. I'm guessing I'm pretty much screwed at this point but thought I would post this here before I fork out ?150 on a new activation code.

Is there anything I can do?

Hi, this is my first post, and I'm so relieved to be here, where somebody might be able to help before I absolutely lose it. I've been googling this all day long, phrasing it every way I could think of, but none of the suggestions I saw given to other people worked for me.
I am usually very careful, but although I hate to admit it, I think I've learned just enough about the inner workings of my PC to become dangerous. I hope I am not responsible for this foul up.

I have had my Windows XP Home Edition for 9 months and have had very few problems. However, after trying to get QuickTime to play a video, (unsuccessfully) and enabling everything on it that related to video, I recieved a stream of messages on my desktop telling me that I had only 3 days to activate my Windows, since "substantial changes have been made to your hardware." So I did, over the phone, with an excruciatingly patient computerized voice. No problem.
BUT ~ I immediately started having ghastly problems with my PC ~ programs have disappeared, and so have several of my most precious files, amongst which are some pictures which took literally hundreds of hours to do on the 'Paint' program. It has also become either horrendously slow connecting to the internet, or it just keeps saying that it is 'connecting' without ever doing so. Even accessing my own files takes forever, and nothing looks the same.

At first I thought "Aha! System Restore should fix this!" ... Read more

I have had a problem on one of my PC's.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Pro ISO from the Microsoft site, did a clean install with the install key found on this forum, I then activated it with my Windows 8 key, so far so good. Next I added the Media Centre using the key I got FOC when Windows 8 was initially launched, restarted the Computer only to be told that I needed to activate Windows, basically I lost the activation of my Windows 8.1.

I thought, maybe I had done something wrong. so I undertook all of the above a second time, a fresh install of Windows 8.1, which I activated, then added the Media and unfortunately I have had the same message, I need to activate windows.

I am now looking at undertaking yet another fresh install, unless I can find a walk around the activation issue.

ANY HELP would be appreciated.
Thanks
Syd

Hi,

I would like to know if there is software or some other way of monitoring your internet connection, so that if it disconnects, then windows/software waits an allocated time period and reboots the computer automatically ?

I have a remote PC that automatically starts an internet connection when the PC powers up, but I am using a wireless internet modem and when there is no signal, the modem drops the connection, but does not try and start it again...

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

A:Windows reboot after internet connection lost

I'm a little confused as to what computer is connecting to the internet and what is the one restarting, but you can try going to run, type 'cmd', type "ping -t (ip address of Host ex. 192.168.50.1). Depending on the wireless routers Default Gateway. this will ping the router until you tell it to stop by pressing CTRL-C in the prompt.

Hello,

I own a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 running Windows 7 Professional, which I bought through my school around two years ago, and Windows 7 Pro was pre installed. Yesterday I opened my laptop and it told me that my Windows was counterfeit and I had to reactivate it again. I tried to reactivate it, but it gave me to Error (0xC004F074), which had the following description:
'The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated. No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted. Please see the Application Event Log for additional information.'

I am pretty sure that my version is totally genuine because over 100 people in my school bought the same laptop from my school at around the same time, the package was officially tendered from a company, which I had to pay for licensing for both Windows and Microsoft Office, and my school has an IT department that manages these things.

Here was the information from the Diag tool:

A:Error: Windows 7 Professional Activation error (0xC004F074)

Hi, and welcome to Seven Forums.

This Microsoft KB article may be able to help.

When trying to activate you get 0xC004F074 with description "The Key Management Server (KMS) is unavailable"

Here's the download link for the hotfix mentioned in the KB article. You would use the Windows Server 2008 downloads (not the Itanium one) for Windows 7.

An update is available for Windows Vista and for Windows Server 2008 to extend KMS activation support for Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2

Hey Community.

I have a problem. I installed a new PSU not long ago, and since then out of my 3 x 2 GB RAM, Control Panel\System and Security\System tells me this: Installed Memory (RAM): 6,00 GB (3,22 GB usable)

Why does it do this?
Notes
* The reason for having 3 x 2 GB RAM is because I had 4 RAM sticks from the start, but one broke over 1 year ago. It has been working fine with 3 x 2 GB sticks tho for over a year.
* My previous PSU broke not long ago. (2-4 weeks) It was probably because it had overheated (due to lots of dust inside the computer)
After replacing it with a new one this started.
* Again, 3 x 2 GB worked before the new PSU. I don't know if it's PSU related or what it is.. But I need a solution ASAP please.

I want to for example start playing Planetside 2 again. But it requires about 2 - 2.5 GB of RAM to run.
Buying new RAM's is out of the question.

Help!!!

A:System only renders 3,22 GB usable out of 6GB of RAM - Windows 7 x64

OK. I have to update you on what just happened...

So since I only had 3,22 GB RAM now, I decided to troubleshoot my motherboard.
I had an previous motherboard that I thought broke on me (so I bought a new one) but it was one of the RAM sticks.
I plugged in all the parts into this previous motherboard and try starting.
To my surprise, it didn't boot up at all. So I looked at the CPU and I noticed one of the pins and been severely bent.
I try bending it back, but it had been bent to much that it actually broke off.
I got an AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 970 3,5 Ghz. If you go straight diagonally from the where the arrow points on the CPU to the other side, that's the one.
Also.. Another weird thing.. Pluggin it back in I happen to find my old RAMstick that broke some while ago. I decided what the hell lets plug it in. AAAND to my surprise it's still working. I guess it was the motherboard that was damaged...

So NOW, I got 5,97 GB Total Physical Memory that is usable out of my 8GB Installed.
I guess because of the bent pin (now broken pin) (surprisingly my computer booted up with my original MB) the CPU is not sending enough power to the RAM sticks???
I have no idea how the CPU and motherboards work in depth, maybe someone could figure this out and I could do some overclocking settings for the RAM to give it more power to be able to give me a full 8GB.
I should probably tho get this CPU pin fixed.

I am running windows 7 pro 64 bit on 4.4GHz 6core Intel with 16GB RAM, 400Mbps SSD drive, water cooling and 2 quad output Firepro ATI graphics cards.

I want to run in windows 7 basic colour mode.

Why? Because aero really sucks in my opinon.

1. Being able to see through the top bar to what's behind is not important
2. windows key tab is way slower to find what you want than alt+tab
3. screen capture software doesn't always like it
4. whilst deciding where to put an app it thinks i am shaking it and everything disappears
5. when i move stuff, it snaps to full height or left right when i don't want that (make it with the min/max/restore options please)

There is really nothing in it that I can see if of any real use, other than just bling.

However if you set to "adjust for best performance" that version is a bit too old looking.

Basic is perfect for me, however it does not persist on reboot.

Any ideas how I might do that?

Thanks

Dave

Hi,

I'm a new user here (but frequent viewer) and was hoping someone might be able to help me resolve my issue.  I spent the last couple days doing a clean install of Windows 7 on my PC, and got everything to where I wanted it.  Today I was installing some routine Windows Updates and during the reboot install (i.e. "Installing Updates, do not turn off computer") I lost power to the computer due to the power cord not sufficiently being plugged in :-/  Now when I restart the machine I receive the following (seemingly common) blue screen error.

STOP: c0000135 The program can't start because %hs is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

I tried the normal F8 options; Startup Repair, Restore, etc. they all fail. I tried using SFC, this fails. I tried chkdsk and everything was fine there. Sadly I keep receiving the same blue screen error.

So... I downloaded FarBar, ran the scan, and obtained the following FRST.txt file.  I notice a couple issues in the file, but am not sure on how to proceed.  I was hoping someone out there might be able to help me with what to do next.
Thank you!

Mods,

You can close out this topic, I was able to resolve the issue.  For others that might stumble on this.  I was able to replace the missing .dll files by renaming c:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml, running sfc /scannow from the repair command prompt, then renaming the the xml file back to pending.xml.  I previously was unable to run sfc due to it thinking there was a 'pending restore', by hiding the pending.xml file I was able to get around this.

Thank you!

I have an HP Beats Audio laptop Model #15-p030nr that is basically a big red brick after upgrading to Windows 10. Keyboards are rendered useless upon loading of Windows 10 desktop because ANY key press triggers the ?Get Started? app which opens the default browser (Edge, IE or Firefox)  to a Bing search on ?Getting started with Windows 10?. Also, the Narrator insists on being turned at the same time. This problem really renders this laptop pretty much useless. This is what has been done. System was restored to factory settings using HP's recovery tool. Original operating system was Windows 8.1 with the OEM feature of upgrading to Windows 10. Performed Windows 10 upgrade using HP's update feature. During Windows 10 install, keyboards (both laptop and USB) worked flawlessly until arrival at the desktop. The onscreen keyboard function is also inoperable. Mouse functions are not affected by this but once an input is made from either keyboard, it springs the ?Get Started? and narrator apps as described above. After two or three reboots of the system the action does not wait for a keyboard input and automatically starts once desktop is up. Any key press on either keyboard will re-trigger the action. This ends up with multiple instances of browsers running and/or multiple tabs in the browser. As you can see, this pretty much renders the keyboards useless thereby rendering the entire system useless. I have tried doing a rollback to ... I've just purchased a brand new Sony Vaio netbook with Win7 Home Premium 64bit, (1.7Ghz CPU, 4GB RAM).

As soon as I activate the Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) software which comes with the Win7 OS, the computer becomes very unstable and fails to open programs, even the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del). As soon as I close WSR all of the commands (i.e. to open other applications) are suddenly executed.

I have updated the audio drivers, but this hasn't helped.

I recently installed windows 10 on my computer only to find my perfectly good printer no longer works.
The drivers wouldn't update automatically so I went to product support on canon website to search there
It came back with the message that there were no drivers for Win 10 and that I should either change my printer or my OS
I don't wish to do either
Could anyone help me with an alternative to this ludicrous suggestion?
I always trusted canon to be a reliable and reputable company but I may think twice in future if a company cant keep abreast with the latest technology

A:Windows 10 renders my Canon pixma 1p4600 printer useless

I would not imagine that attitude will last very long.

Surely Canon have been working to get drivers etc ready for the latest OS from Windows.

I had a similar experience with a Samsung Printer.....sent an email to their support area....and received a phone call from South Korea to explain the procedure to me followed by an email with the detail printed there.

So....send them an email...give them the story.....and hopefully the reply will fix things.

Otherwise.....inform them that you will be buying another printer....and it wont be a canon !

Setup fresh Windows 8 install yesterday, today files and system settings went missing or reverted?

Fresh Windows 8 misplaced downloads folder, Chrome settings, system tweaks ect?

Yesterday I was setting up a fresh install of Windows 8 during which I downloaded some files into the default (File Explorer > Favorites) "Downloads" folder, setup Google Chrome with extensions like Xmarks & Adblock and set new browsing options, and tweaked the taskbar and system tray notification area. However, when I booted up today the files in the "Downloads" folder are missing, Chrome loaded to a fresh install state, the taskbar reverted back to large icons, and the notification area icons are back to their default settings.

I used the search bar to find a file I downloaded and it located this folder:

C:\Users\Admin\Downloads

which houses all the files I downloaded yesterday while setting up the fresh OS. The default (File Explorer > Favorites) "Downloads" folder points to:

C:\Users\TEMP\Downloads

which is empty.

Action Center settings also reverted back partially; User Account Control kept the settings I applied as well as Windows Update settings, however, the "Turn off messages about Windows SmartScreen/Update/etc" link is present whereas yesterday I had turned the messages off.

The driver is available on Windows Update since Tuesday together with a networking driver (which is working fine) when using VirtIO devices. I have always used the signed Red Hat drivers from the Fedora project, but those seem to get overwritten by the SUSE
drivers when selected in Windows Update. After a reboot, the operating system refuses to boot and throws an error in the lines of "no boot device found". Setting the virtual hard disk to use IDE emulation resolves the issue, but comes with a performance
penalty.
The only real solution so far is to remove the new SUSE driver and use the Red Hat driver again.
Apparently, other Windows editions are affected as well, specifically Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
Any info if the driver will be removed for incompatible machines or if there will be an updates that fixes this problem? I assume the driver only works with selected KVM hypervisors (SUSE?).
