Laptop wont turn on after charging power bank

Q: Laptop wont turn on after charging power bank

Hello,

This problem is from a friend of mine but he doesn't has a computer now. Yesterday he was charging his powerbank through his Laptop (Asus bought 3 months ago) USB port. After a while the computer was shutdown and won't turn on, even when it's plugged through its power adapter.

Is there any solution to this?
Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi and welcome to TSG.

As annoying as it can be to have to do it, your best option if it appears totally dead is to RMA the laptop if it is only 3 months old. Fiddling about with it too much trying to diagnose the problem could end up invalidating any warranty your friend has.

The only simple checks I would do are to try and power it up with and without the power cord connected.
Then remove the battery (assuming it is a removable one) and try it again with the power adapter attached.

It could be a problem with the laptop or that the power brick has just failed, it happens occasionally.

Hi,just wondering if it is possible to charge my P 50 using a portable power pack whilst camping etc?Ideally, one that doesn't require my 170w, slim tip charger; but a solution of any sort would be great. I had in mind a powerpack which could service my laptop, as well as phones, USB devices and so on; but all my searching has led to dead ends.Electrics aren't my forte, so any advice appreciated, Cheers angus.

Hello Guys,I have HP dv6 pavilion series with Windows 10 (64 bit) for 4 years now. I dont have the Battery so I usually work with directly connecting the Power cable. It worked fine till now. Today it abruptly Shut down and since then its not booting. The Charging light keeps on Blinking.I have tried the 40/30 sec trick (holding thepower on button for 30-40 secs for the capacitors to discharge) twice, but in vain. I also cleaned up my cooling fan and checked for all the wiring, its all intact. After re-essembling the laptop, the same problem persists. And about the Bios update, I do think I have the latest bios updated, as my laptop is connected with internet, and I usually keep it all Updated. And if someone recommends me to Update the BIOS, well I cannot power on my laptop, so is there any alternative for updating the BIOS? Earlier it did Abruptly Shutdown twice or thrice over last few days, but used to Power up again. But today it wont work. Please Help Me guys. Thanks

Hi guys,

I just replaced a bad T61 power jack ( I'm sure it must've been bad since two of the wire connections came loose from the jack itself). The new power jack had all the connections to the jack just fine, so I plugged it in, connected it to mobo, put everything together and still no power.

Could it be that when the connections came loose originally the motherboard got damaged in the process? I felt almost sure it was the dc power jack as soon I saw those loose connections, but i guess not?

EDIT: To give you guys a better idea. I bought one of these: T61 DC Power Jack

I also tried plugging in the charger (which I've tested with a multimeter, and it is also a new chrarger) into the NEW port, then trying to get power from the contacts on the mobo connector (white piece in the picture). I tried pushing down with the negative connector to one of the black wire contacts, and pushing the positive tip to one of the red wire contacts and did not see any power there, so I'm wondering if I tested it wrong?

Hi all, got this power bank (40AL140CWW) for my P1. It is listed as acceptable for the system on the Option Compatibility Matrix (January, 2019). Got it a while back, tested it, worked fine: https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/9uyew4/fieldtesting_the_lenovo_usbc_14000mah_power_bank/ Using it today (charged yesterday) ... all four lights on the bank come on when I plug it into my P1, but, the system is behaving differently ... previously, the bank powered the unit and its LEDs went off one by one as the charge decreased; the main battery indicator on the bottom did not move off 95%. This time, the main battery indicator shows a decreasing level of charge, and so far, the bank still has four LEDs illuminated. Even weirder, the "remaining time" at one point seemed to indicate the battery was present (showing 8+ hours remaining) but now, even that has changed, and the system is acting like there is no power bank installed at all (shows 3 hours and 33 min [77%] remaining.) I am using the USB-C power cord that came with the bank. Is it defective? TIA, -kj-

Last night my computer blue screened about 3 times then it just stopped turning on altogether. Wheni plug the power supply into the motherboard the neon fan turns on for a milisecond but that seems to be the only way that i can tell that there's power going to the motherboard.

I've tried 4 different power supplies, different processor, different BIOS batteries, different RAM, etc, but no matter how many times i try to turn it on it just wont turn on.

I do recall doing something innthe BIOS last night which seemed to start this dilemer. I went into power management and did something to the power switch option, then set everything back to default settings.

This is when things started to happen then my pc just wouldn't turn on at all.

It's a socket939 MSI CoreCell.

Could something i did in the BIOS really be causing this problem and is there a way to fix it?

Like i said there does seem to be power going to the motherboard but it simply wont turn on (i even tried different power switches just in [email protected]

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to buy another 939 motherboard as most shops don't cell them any more and it means i'd have to buy a new processor too.

A:Computer wont turn on with power switch but there is power going through it?

If it is a BIOS setting, removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes should clear it. Since you've already changed the battery more than once, it would seem that is not the problem. Considering what you already tried, it might be the motherboard itself or possibly the graphics card but my money is on the motherboard. Just to be sure do you have another graphics card to test with?

Hi.

I'm no expert but an engineer told me (re another m/c) that there may be some protection hardware acting. An obvious example would be if the fan over the processor failed, it would overheat and burn up quite quickly. So the power is cut to stop that happening.

I bought the Lenovo G50 around 7-8 months ago from the Argos outlet account on eBay, (ignore the fact it was purchased from eBay, it is still a very good laptop). The laptop has been working great since the day it arrived, however, I went to use it today after not touching it for about 2-3 weeks and it wouldn't start I knew the laptop has very little to no charge so before I turned it on I connected the AC adapter. Nothing. The laptop didn't turn on nor did it charge either. No LED lights, no booting sound... NOTHING!
I found many solution on the web like the infamous, "take the battery out, hold the power button down and then connect adapter" technique- which didn't work at all.
I'm planning to take it to a specialist in the following week but I'm still open and desperate for other techniques which will save me money.
Thank you.

Hello, I have a ProBook 640 G1 that will not power on. After pressing the power button, with a battery installed and the AC adapter attached, the Charging LED blinks white 9 times . Unplugging the AC adapter results in 9 amber blinks. The light on the AC Adapter itself remains solid green. With the battery removed, and attached to the AC Adapter, three lights blink continously : The light on the power button (white), the Charging LED (AMBER), and the Power LED (White). The light on the AC Adapter itself remain solid green. In both cases pressing or pressing and holding the power button has no effect. There is no indication that power is actually making in to the MB; no BIOS , nothing at all. I do not have access to another unit with the same battery or AC adapter in order to try swapping those out. Thanks,Shane

Hello all. Do please forgive me if this is not the right thread because I really need help right now.

I have an ASUS X450J laptop with a Windows 8.1 OS and I have had this problem for three days now, including today. My Laptop is unable to turn on,it was functioning normally untill three days ago when I restarted the laptop. Then the "Preparing Automatic Repair" restart loop happened. I did not know how to boot my laptop in safe mode,I tried pressing F1-F12 but it did not work. So I changed the booting to DVD through the BIOS and got in the Windows 8.1 "Repair my Computer" or something like that(I do not remember what it was called) After it was finished loading for a few seconds... nothing happened, the screen was blank and nothing showed up,though I was still able to move my mouse, there was nothing on the screen. I then got into the Windows 8.1 screen again and clicked "install" thinking it would re-install the whole thing but it just kept loading and loading... I waited for around 30 minutes.... I came back and it was still loading it said "Setup is starting". None of it worked.

I got desperate and looked for solutions online and none of them worked for me. So I opened the laptop's casing and cleaned the inside of it with tissues and cottonbuds, some parts are still dirty, like the fan and some small edges on the motherboard(I am too afraid to remove them). So I put the laptop's casing back on and I tried turning the laptop o... Read more

In February while using my laptop (Alienware M18x r2) it turned off immediately without any warning while it was plugged in to charge. There wasn't any notice that the laptop was going to turn off or that I should plug in the laptop to avoid losing any unsaved data. It won't turn back on with or without the charger. When the charger is plugged into a socket the charger light comes on but charger light it goes off when I plug the charger into the laptop and the laptop won't charge or turn on. I should also mention that the first time I tried to plug in the laptop with the battery still inside there was a spark. I removed the battery, plugged in the charger to the laptop and it sounded like the plug/jack short circuited. I was not using a surge protector at the time. I have no idea why this happened or how to fix it. One recommendation was to replace the spark plug but I'm not convinced that is the problem.

That is probably what happened. The port on the motherboard shorted out. It needs to be replaced. Some are easy an some re hard to replace.

Hey all, ive had my custom computer for probably nearing 6 months now and its been working wonderfully but recently i have been having a problem where every time i tried to turn my computer on the fans would rev up lights would blink on but they would immediately shut off and nothing else happens. It made me do this a few times and finally my computer would boot up and run fine. Last night while i was on, it randomly shut off and would not turn on no matter how many attempts.

Ive done some basic troubleshooting such as remove graphics card and try to boot, remove excess ram, remove all ram. nothing worked. finally i had the idea to change the power cord. much to my surprise this actually worked and i had 3 successful boots in a row. after having it up and running i turned it off to apply some updates that needed to be done and now im back to the same point of now boot up the light flick fans try to run but stop and nothing happens.

i know the motherboard is receiving power cause lights on the mobo are on as well has the graphics card. Additionally i also pulled my PSU out and cheated it to make sure it was running and it ran just fine.

Ive run out of ideas and dont know what to do now so any help would be appreciated. Im no expert i just can imagine that anything hardware wise has gone bad since it booted and ran fine even after the problem started but im worried with to many attempts it could cause problems to internal components.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,I am going to use my X2 10 (10-n155sa) to travel to Africa, and while there I will be unable to have access to electricity for several days at a time to be able to charge the laptop. I need a compatable battery Usb battery pack that will allow charging of the X2 10 while on the move. I understand Hp have locked out charging from normal third party usb c battery banks with drm? (the few off the shelf third party usb c battery banks I have tried do not work, including converting usb 2 to usb c), so I am asking them what solution they have available to the problem they have created? Do they have their own Hp branded usb battery powered solution available for purchase? It is imperative that this laptop is charged while a dedicated a/c source is not available as the laptop will be crucial to site functions within the field.  A laptop with a flat battery and no way to charge it is a useless paperweight. I am sure I am not the only one in a similarly presented situation, with no current way to charge from a usb power bank, even if just for generic traveling without access to ac for several days. Or does anyone know of a known third party combination that allows charging of a 10-n155sa via an external usb c battery bank. It does not matter if it takes several hours to charge and only charges when it is off, as long as there is a workable solution. Thank you for any responses to this problem...

I have no experience with that charging bank, but it appears to be underpowered.  You need 20V 2.25-amps (45W).  The maximum output at 20V is 1.5 amps (30W).

So, my issue that ive looked everywhere for a solution to is this.  I was about to give this laptop to someone and I reformatted the hard drive to clean it up before doing so.  After this I went to dells site and loaded up the drivers for this machine.  All is fine up till this point.  Then I updated the bios to the newest version a12, and all went fine.

Well, later that day I needed to unplug the laptop and go to a different room and It just turned off after I unplugged it.  It wouldnt turn on with battery power either.  Plugged it back in and it loads fine but the battery is stuck on 36 percent charge and says not charging.  Now im getting a message saying the battery needs to be replaced as well, which is *** because I know that the battery was working just fine before this day.  Not only that why wont a battery with 36 percent charge turn on the laptop?  Its got the flashing red battery symbol when powered on with the ac adapter but without the computer on, but still plugged in, the battery doesnt charge or have any lights.

I have already tried the uninstalling of the acpi trick, as well as the taking the battery out while its running, or taking it out purging the power and reseating.  Ive tried all the common tricks to no avail.  Not sure whats going on but I know this battery was good, and it still says 36 percent but wont charge and wont power the laptop on.  Hope someone can help.

Thanks Gary

A:DELL VOSTRO 3500 BATTERY ISSUE (not charging and wont power on computer with charge) HELP!

First check:  make sure the BIOS (F2 at powerup) recognizes the AC adapter.  If it does not, the battery will not charge.
If the AC adapter is not recognized, try another Dell OEM adapter.  If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC jack:
http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=9935
And if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.
If the AC adapter IS recognized, but the battery will not charge, unplug the system, remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Try again -- if the battery still won't charge, odds are the battery itself is bad.
If the battery is original to the system, it's about four years old - well past its expected lifespan.

A:Lenovo y50 70 Wont Turn On Only POwer

Hi AmericanFighter ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The burnt smell and the boom noise heard before the issue is an important event that should be notified with the technical support team.

As some SN may not show readily on the warranty look up page at the moment due to some changes in the server  you may call in Lenovo tech for an immediate identification and recommendation for repair on the issue or you can send me a private message to check the warranty for you (don't post the SN as it should be kept confidential).

As per opening the cover to investigate , this would not void the warranty as long as no damage during the process as commonly done on customer upgrades similar to this discussion. Issue may either be the power port , systemboard and heatsink and fan needed to be serviced,

Sounds like the surge from the outtage cooked your PSU. It's a fairly easy and inexpensive fix though.Find a similar one on NewEgg and replace it. Everyone here can talk you through it. Relax, it's all good.

I just bought a brand new cpu case enclosure with a 500 watt switching power supply.I took it out of the box and plugged it in but it wont do anything? Is this normal? Do i have to have a motherboard installed for the power supply to come on?

A:Solved: Power supply wont turn on???

Yes.

PSU's require a minimum load on the 5v and 12v rails in most cases before they will power up.

Hi everyone. Was hoping you could help me tackle this problem.

I have a Sony VAIO VPCEB32FM that has stopped charging. I've replaced the charger with a new OEM charger from Sony and also installed a new DC power jack but it's still not working.

At first, after installing the new DC jack, it was charging fine but when I turned it on I got as far as the log on screen before it turned off again.
I've tried taking the battery out and just running off the adapter but it doesn't turn on. I've ran it without the battery prior so I know this model does work without one in.
I also took a multimeter to test the voltage on the old DC power jack and new charger to make sure everything was fine, it was. All voltages are within the boundaries of what they should be.

I plugged in the charger to the old DC jack and checked the voltage on each of the hot wires that plug into the mobo and they're all receiving proper power.

I'm not sure what it could be at this point. Does anyone have any ideas of what else could be causing this?

Thanks!

It would help if you posted the product number or complete product name. You have only identified the notebook model series that it came from and that is not quite specific enough. Identify it and I will be able to give you instructions on performing a hard reset of your notebook. Is it still in warranty?Check your warranty status Here. Does the power\charge LED light up when a power adapter is connected to it?

A:Acer Aspire S7-392 wont turn on blinking power led

tried it didnt work. I have decided that its about time i put it into trash. The thing has been in and out of repair shop over 2 years. I have never had laptop that broke so easily without fault from user. Did you know First time i bought this with in 3 weeks speakers stopped working. than after 2 months whenever i turn it on it does disk check up. and into 6 months the whole thing died. it was under warranty so sent it to acer repair shop. got it back every thing worked at first. but in first week speaker stopped working again along with 1 usb port. within the 2 years i had this already spent enough for a new ultrabook. Even though my friends said acer is not a good, the thing looked so nice, so bought it anyway. I learned my lesson will never buy an acer product.

A:power, there is a blinking light in the back but it wont turn on

The PC may need a new PSU (Power Supply Unit) which fits inside the PC case and distributes the power to the various components.
