I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello for the past 2 weeks I am facing a weird battery charging issue. Apparently the battery charges only while the laptop is on Sleep mode or Shut Down mode. It doesn't charge when powered on. The HP online support also does not have any answers. I have updated the BIOS and restarted the laptop countless times. The battery is not removable. Anybody else faced this issue and any solutions?  On a side note, Microsoft Excel crashes repeatedly since beginning. And the support has no answer to this too. Thanks for your help! Regards,Garry

My laptop only charges when in sleep mode or when switched off. I have tested my charger properly and it is fine. When I charge my laptop when it is on, the charging area goes orange for a few seconds then white which is what should only happen when your laptop is fully charged. However my laptop does this even with 8% of battery left. It seems like the laptop always thinks it's fully charged when on. How do I fix this?

But when I close it there is a orange light and a couple hours later it's fully charged . I assumed I had a bad battery but I ran a battery test and it said my battery was fine . Because it charges when it's closed I assumed their was a setting I could just switch but i don't know what to do .

Unfortunately my HP Envy charges only when it is in sleep mode or turned off. I perfomed a troubleshoot and I got an error saying that I should buy a new battery. So, I ordered a new HP battery. The problem is that even with the new battery the problem continues. I even used another compatible charger, to ensure that it is not a charger problem, and I got the same message. "Plugged in, not charging". I unistalled the AC Adapter and reinstalled the drivers from the Device Managers, but the problem did not get fixed. Moreover I also performed Windows Troubleshooting, but nothing relevant comes up. Moreover there is another problem. Some times, the screen starts to act weird. It goes white with some strips and it freezes and after some time it operates normally again. I don't think the two problems are related, but I thought it is good to mention both. HP Envy 15 NoteBook PC, Windows 10 (64 bit) - all hardware fully updated. Thanks in advance.

Great laptop that Ive been using for 1.5 years. Recently I've noticed my battery is showing signs of an error other Dell users are reporting.
Laptop charges fine to 76% then it starts alternating from "plugged in, charging" to "plugged in, not charging". Charging after 76% becomes really slow.
What I've done so far:
1. Updated BIOS
2. Updated Dells Power Management tool
3. BIOS can detect the adapter (45W). Im using the adapter that came with the laptop
4. Battery settings in power management and BIOs are set to Standard
5. Completely drained the battery and tried doing a full charge
6. Uninstalled Microsoft ACPI compliant control in device manager then re-installed
Battery diagnostics show the battery is in EXCELLENT health.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I've had this problem intermittently on my laptop for the past 2 years however it has been occuring more often recently.

Basically sometimes when I click the sleep button on Windows 7, the screen fades to black as usual. However the fan keeps running (sounds like when it's on full load) and the power button light stays on endlessly. I always have to force shut it down and restart it.

What can be the issue?
Thanks.

A:Laptop freezes between entering sleep mode to being in sleep mode

Hi joseph10444.

Such a situation may occur when some driver (mostly the PnP device drivers depending on the ACPI configuration) fail to response within a stipulated time period during the power state change.

Let us see some data. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Those files will give us a closer look to the issue.

Hi KnightCa,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I'm really sorry to hear that your Lenovo W520 goes into sleep mode even after it has been disabled in Power management.

Go to Control panel - - >Power Options - - >Change plan settings (Choose the Power plan that you have selected) - - >Change advanced power settings - - >Adjust the settings under sleep and display as shown below.

Also, try doing a windows update and reinstallation of Power manager in your system.

If the above said didn?t help, try doing a registry editing.

1. Open the Start Menu. 2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type regedit and press Enter. 3. If prompted, click on Continue in the prompt. 4. In regedit, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\238C9FA8-0AAD-41ED-83F4-97BE242C8F20\7bc4a2f9-d8fc-4469-b07b-33eb785aaca0\DefaultPowerSchemeValues.

When I leave my computer after a session, it automatically goes into sleep mode after a period of time and remains that way till I wake it up.

However when I manually put it to sleep ( via shutdown options) , it goes to sleep immediately but for only a while ( a few minutes) then it shows the desktop screen again. If I then leave it alone after it self awake , it goes back to sleep as described above.

Any idea why ?

Thanks

A:Auto sleep mode works but manual sleep does not

Hi,

Some softwares can stop the sleep request to work properly.

run cmd.exe as a admin (Click on start, type CMD, right click on CMD.exe and select run as admin)
then type the command
powercfg.exe /energy
This will generate a report that will show if any software is blocking the sleep request. Your next step would be to configure the software in control panel power options

I like to put my computer on sleep so I can just come back to where I left it, but the past few days when I put it on sleep the screen would just go black like it was asleep, but the computer was still on and running like I didn't put it in sleep. Then when I move the mouse to come out of sleep it says "locking computer" and goes to my password screen (which is what it should do before going to sleep). I don't think its in the power settings because I've checked there and played around with the settings (I'm not technically challenged so I don't think it's something that simple lol).

Also, my touchpad scroll feature does not work (and has not worked for quite some time). It comes back when I turn the computer off and on again, but I only do that a few times a week. I've tried reinstalling the touchpad firmware so that isn't the problem.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215.

I've been using this Windows 7 Home system for some years. At first it used the CRT monitor I had for much longer than this system, then a used LCD monitor, now for the last six or eight months a larger used, but seemingly in excellent condition, Dell E228WFP.

My habit has been, for much longer than I've had the Win7 system, to manually put the system in sleep mode during the day when I expect to be away for any extended time. I turn it off if I will definitely be away for hours and turn it off over night.

The problem did not exist until this Dell monitor. I don't recall how soon after getting the monitor it started, probably not very long.

The system always come up working properly when first turned on but sometimes, when I awaken the system, the video is at a much lower resolution. Looking at the Windows Screen resolution, it says generic PNP monitor rather than the Dell. This is an annoyance but easy enough to fix, just click on Detect, and it switches back to the Dell at the higher resolution, the recommended 1680 X 1050, which is enough to suit me.

Starting perhaps six or eight weeks ago it sometimes instead woke up with a message
1: auto detect (analog input)
Cannot display this video mode
optimum resolution 1680 x 1050 60Hz

Sometime the first line instead says
2: Analog Input

The only way to get any video is to restart the system, which always came up correct from boot or reboot, just not from reawaken. If nothing was open when I put it to sleep, I can use the k... Read more

Hello Jack,

You might check using STEP SIX in the tutorial below as a guide to see if you have a "Power Management" tab to uncheck the "Allow to wake computer" option in it for you mouse in Device Manager.

Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

If not, then you can use the STEP FIVE section to manually disable the mouse from waking up your computer.

Just be sure that you at least have the keyboard allowed to wake up the computer, or you will have to press the case power button to wake up your computer instead.

Hope this helps,

Hey everyone,
So i hit sleep mode last night before bed, and have returned from uni to find my computer not booting. Powered on, but not booting. It was working fine last night.
When i power it on, all the fans start up normally, then a click, at which point BIOS would usually start. Instead, it powers down for a second, then powers up again a second time, and does nothing. Just sits running.
At no point do i get to BIOS,let alone windows. I dont get anything output on the screen at all. It just flashes the power light, which basically means there is no input coming from the PC.

Im running windows 7, 3.4Ghz intel dual core processor, 4GB RAM, ASUS P5Q-E motherboard 700 watt PSU, 8800GT graphics card, 3TB samsung HDD.

As i say, its been running flawlessly up until now, so sleep mode must have something to do with it. I have heard removing the CMOS battery could help, but i dont want to go diving onto the mobo without knowing what im doing.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Much love
-M

edit- im also aware this might be the wrong forum to be asking this, feel free to move it about if need be.

A:Sleep mode

Sounds like possibly a PSU, memory, or motherboard problem.

You can open the case and look for the round silver coin battery on the motherboard and use a screwdriver to pop it out and place it back in. This would be the bit about removing the CMOS battery.

I think your PSU is perhaps a trifle underpowered, not knowing the brand I'm not sure how reliable it is.

You can also try removing 2GB at a time of your RAM. If the computer boots when you have 2GB of RAM but not 3 or 4, then you have a bad memory stick.

I also wonder if there's a short somewhere on the motherboard. You can take a peek and see if any of the spacers between the board and the metal inside of the case are out of place.

OK...I'm stumped. I'm using my desktop computer with Windows XP. Until yesterday, I had my keyboard shortcut key conveniently programmed to put Win into a Sleep mode (not hibernate). The computer would say "preparing to standby" or something. Everything would shut off - fans, hard drive...you couldn't hear a sound. However, you could see a slow flashing light on the front of the computer. To turn it on, you pressed the power button...shaking the mouse or a keystroke wouldn't wake it.

Now...I just bought a new keyboard yesterday. It too has a shortcut key for sleep mode. However, the only programmable functions for it are: standby, hibernate, shutdown, do nothing, etc, etc. So, I figured Standby was the one to pick. Then I found out that Standby makes it does something different. The monitor goes off, but the fan is still on and the light on the front blinks...but a bit faster. Shaking the mouse will wake up the computer.

I know for sure that I didn't use Hibernate mode previously because I had it disabled.

Can anyone shed some light?

Regards,

Hello Fiorello,

You might check through the items in this tutorial below to help see what may be waking your computer up. A common problem is having the "Allow to Wake Computer" option enabled for the Network adapter in it's "Power Management" properties settings in Device Manager.

If it's taking that long to go to sleep, then double check to make sure you have hibernate disabled to see if that helps.

Hope this helps,

Hi Vistar,

You might go through this troubleshooting tutorial to see if it will help you. In your case, I would check to make sure that you have the Wake Up options turned off in your Network device. (Step 5)

I am currently using Windows Vista home premium on my laptop. I can make changes to sleep mode in power options, but no matter what I do, my computer goes to sleep in 20 minutes or so if I am not active. This really bugs if I am watching a movie or something similar. Any suggestions on how I can get my power options working again?

A:No changes to sleep mode.

See my reply in your other post at http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista-7/807859-no-changes-sleep-mode.html
