thinkpad X1 Extreme SSD upgrade - single sided and/or double sided SSD's supported

Q: thinkpad X1 Extreme SSD upgrade - single sided and/or double sided SSD's supported

the X1E i ordered had one primary NVMe M.2 drive and I went and purchased another M.2 NVMe drive from another vendor upon receiving my machine and trying to install the additional drive, I discovered that the SSD would not lay flat seemingly because it's a double-sided SSD. I have not seen anywhere that says the X1E must utillize a single-sided SSD and the user guide provides no clarification. i have contacted lenovo via chat and also technical support via telephone and they've been of no help. when it says M.2 form factor you would assume that any M.2 drive would work but apparently it does not. if I have to return the drive I'll be out $60 for shipping and restocking fee. am I missing something here? i'd be very disappointed if I have to return the drive and get dinged $60. If indeed it only takes single-sided drives, how would an average user/customer know that?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Everyone!

i have HP dc5750 (AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+) and want to upgrade memory to 2GB. my system support PC2-6400 800Mhz with dual-channel mode.
i want to know whether sigle-sided is better or double-sided in terms of performance as my system supports both.

Looking forward for a quick reply.

Don't know about that, but just pop these in and you're good to go http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227078
Are you exactly sure it supports DDR 2 800? Because I didn't find a single site, not a single memory manufacturer that would say that any DDR2 800 RAM would work with that?

Hi everyone. I'm not sure I'm posting in the correct area so please redirect me if necessary.

I have a 436 page pdf document I want to print. I have a HP DeskJet 3050 which does not have a duplex unit.

I wanted to print the document with 2 pages of the document on each side of A4 paper in booklet format. I selected Print, booklet, 2 pages per sheet and to print both sides. I was expecting a notification to turn the paper over and reload it into the printer after it had printed page 218. I was away from the printer when it reached page 218. When I returned there was no message asking me to turn over the paper.

What have I done wrong?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have a MSI motherboard (MB) with 4 slots for RAM. The MB came with one stick of Corsair Value Select 512MB400 RAM (184-pin DDR). I cannot remember if that stick was single sided or double-sided. I have since purchased and installed 3 more sticks of Corsair VS512MB400 RAM. I do not remember if the first one was single sided or double sided, but the last two were definitely single sided. (I make these purchases on line and don't see the actual stick until it arrives).

Now I have three out of four DIMM slots installed with with single sided RAM (i.e., one side of the stick does not have any of the black modules). Those sticks reside in DIMM slots 1,2, and 4. The double-sided stick resides in DIMM 3 (that stick has the black modules on both sides).

The slots for the RAM are color coded as follows: DIMM slots 1 and 3 are green; while DIMMS slots 2 and 4 are purple.

My computer seems to be fine but, in reading the MSI manual, I noted the following: "Users can install either single- or double-sided modules to meet their own needs. Users may install memory modules of different type and density on different-channel DDR DIMMS. However, memory modules of the same type and density are required while using dual-channel DDR, or instability may happen."

Even though I have not noticed any instability, would I be well-advised to buy one more stick of the same 512MB Corsair RAM so that all 4 sticks are the same? Or, if I inadvertently get another double-sided stick, can I ... Read more

I want to upgrade the RAM on my HP p6710f.The online specs state it has an N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX (Alvorix) mobo. However the printing on my mobo says H-ALVORIX -RS880-uATX  1.00. Three of my diagnostic programs identify the mobo as a Foxconn 2AB1.HP?s online specs state memory upgrades can be 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB DDR3 DIMMs and up to 16 GB on 64-bit systems.I was going to order 8GB RAM (4GB x 2) but came across some info that sometime single sided 4GB sticks may not work in an older PC & you may need double sided ones. I never thought about this because I never had a problem. Maybe I was just lucky. The factory RAM is single sided 2GB x 2 = 4GB total. But does that imply single sided 4GB modules will work?I?ve searched a lot but cannot find anything regarding using double sided or single sided RAM with this PC and/or mobo. I?ve been to 4 or 5 RAM manufacturer websites & they either don?t have a RAM Configurator that includes my PC or they suggest using 4GB (2GBx2).I?d like to use single sided because there are a lot more options to choose from.Any suggestions what to use, single or double sided?Anyone using single sided RAM modules of 4GB each or larger? Thanks in advance.

A:How can I tell if my RAM is single or double sided?

the easiest way to tell is simply to pop the hood on your PC and look

If each DIMM has memory chips on only one side of the DIMM's printed circuit
card then it's single sided. If it has memory chips on both sides of the
DIMM's printed circuit card then it's double sided.

I never realized using single sided RAM in my old PC might cause a problem until I contacted a manufacturer. I Googled quite extensively & confirmed this could be an issue. Problem is I cannot find out anything about my PC or mobo regarding which type it uses.

The RAM manufacturer websites either don't list my old PC in their databases or indicate to use 4GB (2GBx2) which it already uses. And so far no response from the HP support forum.

I used 4 different utilities hoping they would indicate what my system required but they didn't.

Is there some software or something within Windows 7 itself which might provide this information?

Any help would be appreciated.

RAM modules may be single- or double-sided. Whether your computer will accept a double-sided RAM modules depends on the type of RAM slots available on your computer's motherboard.

i hate it when itime to shop for memory so frigging confusing

i have bought 3 kingston 512MB PC2700 valueram DDR's before (after extended search) and exchange, they have been working fine; so i thgouth DDR just means it's double sided vs SDRAM which is just single sided

so i bought 2 extra sticks from circuity city 512MB PC2700 DDR (even same model as the one i currently have), and when it's time to open it later , i find it's only singled sided!!!!

i see another ad on circuit city this week for $95 less $35 rebate =$60 per 512MB PC2700 DDR kingston KVR333512R, but i now not sure if it's the single sided kind of double; i have gooded and found a bunch of sites including kingston, but kingstons site doesnt seem to have that model, and other etailers selling that model doesnt say double or single sided; they jsut show a picture of 1 side of the RaM which doesnt help me much

can someone please shed some light on this; i'd really appreciate it

I have a two SuperMicro boards here, model P4SPA+. I'm running single-sided memory in one of them. The other is still in its box on the shelf. Does it really matter on this particular board whether I use single- or double-sided memory?

The manual states as follows:
The P4SPA+/P4SPE supports Dual or Single channel, Non-ECC, unbuffered
DDR-400/333/266 SDRAM. Both interleaved and non-interleaved memory are
supported, so you may populate any number of DIMM slots. (*Note: Populating
DIMM1,DIMM3 and/or DIMM2, DIMM4 with memory modules of the same
size/same type will result in the dual channel, two-way interleaved memory
which is faster than the single channel, non-interleaved memory.)Click to expand...

Is it possible to print a single page word document by selecting two copies but have them print duplex to save paper?
I cant seem to google the result and my attempts just do the print on seprate pages.
I think Word is seeing the document as a single page (quite rightly) and ignoring any attempt to combine the pages.

A:Double sided printing

Why would it help in needing two copies if both sides of the sheet of paper are the same? How many copies of the single page document do you need? Or if by single document you mean two different single pages?

If I want two documents on the same sheet I copy the second, go back to the first and add a new page after the first then Paste the data in. Looks like that would work for you.

Depending upon the printer you can set it to print both sides, some printers, like my HP Officejet 8600, will print the first page, pull the paper back in the print the other side. Some printers, like my HP Laserjet M1212, will print the first page then prompt to turn it over in the tray to print the other side.

Hi everyone,

However I keep getting these errors while attempting to burn these dvds using nero start smart although the same program never threw up any errors previously.
"Could not perform end of disc at once";"Burn process failed at 10x (13,850KB/s)"

I need to know if there is some software upgrade i need to do or that my dvd writer is not fit to handle double sided dvd burning or that my machine needs an upgrade.

Any suggestions would be most welcome as i desparately need to backup data regularly on my pc and this would greatly ease my tasks.

I've got a nagging printer problem. I'm running an HP Deskjet 932C on Windows XP and MS Word97. At first, I was unable to configure the software to print double-sided. I hired a computer pro to correct that issue. Now, however, it ALWAYS wants to print double-sided, even if I am only trying to print a one-paragraph, one page document. It requires me to "continue" or "cancel". When I select either on a one-page document, it simply runs out a blank page. Very annoying.

I have a custom made computer here that for some reason is refusing to POST with double-sided RAM installed. (double sided meaning memory chips on both sides of the module).

The board is an ECS S4-3 socket 478,out of an ECS EZ-Buddie system.I can not find any technical manual online to find out whether or not double sided is supported.Has a Celeron 2.7ghz/128/400fsb CPU installed in it.The board is 800fsb HT capable so I would think that this board was designed with double-sided ram in mind.I believe the northbridge chipset is a SiS 661FX+963.Need I mention that this board is missing a floppy controller, onboard BIOS speaker, and BIOS speaker pins to hook up a speaker with,so troubleshooting without beep codes is difficult and updating the BIOS is probably impossible, even if I could find a BIOS update online.

I have 2 sticks of 512mb DDR266 (low density),and 1 stick of 256mb DDR400 (dont know density),all double sided, all verified to be working, tested and passed memtest on other machines. All 3 of them refuse to POST this board.

Then I have a 128mb stick of single sided DDR266 (dont know density) ,which POSTs just fine.If I put in this stick, then a double sided 512 stick next to it,it will POST,but for some reason it shows over 1gb of ram installed when in fact there should be only 640mb minus the reserved onboard GPU memory.

Has anyone here ever heard of something like this? Thanks for any help.

My original Windows was Win95, pre-installed on a 1998 HP computer. With this combo, and my 1998 HP Deskjet 672C printer, I was able to print single-sided, double-sided, and tablet form, all controlled from the Print window. However, 5 months ago I purchased an HP Pavilion PC, but kept my old printer. The two work fine together except for one thing. I can no longer do any double-sided printing. When I go into print properties, the features shows:
Double-sided: No
and I can find nothing on which to click to change it to YES.

Question: What, if anything, can I do to change the print option to Double-sided: YES???

A:Double-sided printing

Hey BarbaraJ,

Im assuming that when you clicked printing preferences the option to 'print on both sides' was grayed out/ not displaying.

Odds are you need to 1. update your driver or 2. you will need the printing software that was included with the printer orginally. (My hp laserjet has a program called 'jetsuite' that is needed to use advanced functions)

You will probably need to to hit up the HP website for the drivers and the latest 'jetsuite equivelent' program. HP is a little ridiculous with their downloading of drivers and you may have to have the new software mailing to you (for an exorbentent expense of course.)

You just purchased a new HP computer so you may be able to get free tech support (or at least find out if the newest drivers will fix your problem) before you waste your money on the latest software.

Good luck.

What I can say for sure is two sided tape adhesive nor the base material is electrically conductive. What I cannot assure you of is how good the dielectric or insulating properties are. If you do this, I would suggest you consider some additional insulation between the two components. Perhaps a non-metallic standoff or a thin sheet of plastic material. If the components get too close to each other, you may create electrical interference. This is the sort of thing one must just experiment with. Having said all that, if it were mine, I'd give it a shot (and no, I'm NOT a lawyer)

Just moved over to Vista Home Premium. I have installed the printers and original software; also Vista downloaded up to date drivers for it.

HP help desk tried to help but no success. The agent is ringing me back Friday to see if you have any suggestions to offer. HP Forum no help so far.
Now, I also have a Samsung colour LJ and tried to print from that d/sided but all it did was print the even pages and showed a red light.
Could this be a problem with Vista 'cos after the three problem filled days I've had so far I'd readily go back to XP!!!

Seems so simple but it has me mystified! Haven't been able to use the upgrade to 17 yet because I can't figure out how to scan double-sided pages. I am using the same scanner that I use with OP 16, a Xerox DocuMate 252 and as far as I can see it is set up in exactly the same manner. I have tried CHOOSING "scan double-sided" in OP/Tools/Scanner, which results in single page scanning and I have tried NOT CHOOSING the "scan double-sided" option, which results in a prompt box to choose even or odd page scan and then apparently I'm to re-scan everything a second time to complete the double-sided scan. NOT!!! It seems that OP is not recognizing my scanner as a duplex -- but I have no idea how to change that. We've had the new upgrade for months but we have relied on 16 because of this problem and no time to devote to solving it. I would be so grateful for some help. Obviously, I missed the window for free OP phone support and I'll be darned if I will pay for some basic information. Boy, what I wouldn't give for a thorough user's guide!

User has a long document which contains some portrait and some landscape pages. The landscape pages contain tables which run over about 6 pages. The document is set to print double sided but when printing the landscape pages, it prints each landscape page to the top of what will be the spine of the document. It would be better if every other page could be turned 180 degrees so that the table would read better. As it is, the user is having to keep turning the document round to read it. Also, the last page of the part containing the tables, switches back to a portrait page. This is being printed upside down on the back of the last landscape page.

How do I print double sided AND draft (low) quality on my HP OfficeJet Pro 6970?

I'm not sure this is the right category to ask for help with this but someone will tell me, I'm sure.

I have struggled incessantly to get HP 5280 to print correctly on both sides. The laborious way, of course, is to insert all the odd numbers, then switch the pages round and insert all the even numbers. but when I ask HP to print odd and even pages it seems that what I know as odd and even doesn't correspond with what HP believes! So I then resort to entering pages manually as mentioned above. This, of course, takes some time.

So I tried duplex printing manually. Sounded easy but - why, when I ask for pages 1-6 for instance, do I only get some of them? I tried doing it the hard way by inserting page numbers but then HP decides to print pages 1,5,9 etc instead of 1,3,5,7,9. I followed the onscreen instructions re turning the pages round but the numbers are then no longer sequential and some are even missing altogether.

As I do a lot of printing out of chapters with numbered pages this is so frustrating.
Can anyone please give me easy step by step instructions on how to do duplex printing? I would be so grateful if someone can tell me how.

at this point set the printer properties, turning off double sided printing.

Not sure how to do this though.

I'm using a DSc 232 Gestetner.

It's my new job and so far, its the only hurdle I'm facing and I don't wanna look like I can't do this...

I'm running into a frustrating situation where some of my users cannot print double sided, but the issue only happens from Office 2007 Pro.

The printer is a Xerox Phaser 6300.

From one of the affected laptops, I can print PDFs double sided, but when I try to print double sided from Word 2007, it only prints single sided even though 2x sided is obviously selected. Have tried other Word documents as well. I have also tried re-installing the printer drivers.

From a Server 2008R2 workstation I can print double sided to that printer using the same version of Word.

Is there some type of feature inside word or office that I'm not aware of that's disabling this feature?

A:Can't print double sided from Office 2007, can with all other apps

In Word, when you go to Office Orb (File) and choose Print, under Settings/Print One Sided, choose the drop down menu and choose Print on Both Sides.
