is a network capable?

Q: is a network capable?

Hi, it's the old Frog here again with another situation--------

I have moved back home to care for my 93 yr old Mom. All I brought with me was my computer tower. Is it possible to connect to the internet thru her computer or modem? She has a Dell 3000 we bought her for Christmas. She's on CableOne with a Motorola SB5100 series Surfboard cable modem provided by CableOne. Can I just unplug her wires and plug them into my computer or do I have to set up some sort of network? If so, how and what do I do. I haven't done anything yet because I didn't want to screw it up.........know what I mean??

Also, if mine is hooked up I won't have the problem I'm having with her CDrom. I still haven't been able to resolve that issue yet.....short of calling out a computer repair guy and paying thru the nose.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Again thanks,

Chief Buzz

Preferred Solution: is a network capable?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Has anyone out there got a Wanadoo Livebox ADSL modem /Router?If so can you use it to set up a home network?I can't get much sense from Wanadoo on the subject. They say you can connect up to 6 PCs to the internet via the Livebox, but that its not suitable for a home network. Is this possible? I thought if you had a router, other than configuring the settings, that's it you can share data from one PC to another, run peripherals on another machine and so on....any one else help on this?Im already with wanadoo and dont know whether to upgrade to their wireless package or start again from scratch if what they offer 'isnt the full ticket'. I need a full blown network, 3 PCS with shared printer facility with of course shared broadband.

Hello everyone! I have a serious dilemma with my home networking scheme. I am stuck right now. I am rather new to the world of networking now as my devices are slowly expanding with more capabilities and the need for networking has finally arrived for me. I need your help. I just upgraded my multi-function printer to a new Brother MFC-L2700DW printer. I have a desktop computer (Windows 7) hardwired via Ethernet cable to one of my Netgear WNDR3700 router ports. I also decided to lose the USB printer cable from my old printer and go hardwired to one of the other router ports as well from this new printer to myrouter. In order for my desktop computer to use the wired networking capability, I used Brother?s DVD software to install the wired network connection (Peer-to-Peer). It worked well adding some nice additional utilities that comeswith the software as well. Now, the question: What do I use or what do I do to my Lenovo T510 laptop (Windows 7) to connect WIRELESSLY to the router so I canprint with this new printer? All Brother documentation shows either total wireless or total wired networking! I mean the setup type is total wireless between the laptop and the router and then form the router and the printer. Yes, I could do that and be totally wireless since the Brother is wired and wireless capable as with my laptop and router, but I chose not to. I could also opt for the ad-hoc option or have a connection be wireless directly between the laptop and the printer bypassing the... Read more

A:What do I do with my laptop to make it home network wireless capable?

Is the printer shared ?

Do you see it from the laptop ?

Personally, I would avoid going wireless with the new printer, I would hard wire it to the router.

But if you want to go wireless then just install the wireless software on your laptop.

All the instructions should be in the manual that came with the new printer.

I recently bought a Belkin 2m cat5e crossover cable to connect my desktop to my D530 laptop, in the hopes that it would be a faster way for me to directly transfer data between the two. The desktop's ethernet card is a Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller (model no. RTL8167), and the D530's is a Broadcom NetExtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller (model no. B57ND60X). Both seem to be gigabit-capable cards, yet I'm not able to get gigabit speeds from them; when looking at the connection, it shows 100Mbit/s, and the fastest speed that each of them can be set to in Device Manager -> Advanced -> Speed & Duplex is 100Mbit Full Duplex. Even worse, I'm not even getting those speeds when I transfer data - I'm getting a measly 1MB/s, so about 8Mbit/s, and even that is constantly dropping.

So far, I've tried updating uninstalling and then updating both drivers automatically via the Device Manager.

I then manually installed drivers, the Desktop's from here: Realtek RTL81XX PCI-E Network Connection Driver Driver Details | Dell UK, and the laptop's using DriverMax because I couldn't find a driver for it.

Still no luck, and I'm now at a loss for what to try. When I bought the crossover, I really didn't think it'd take this much to get it up and running, I suppose I was under the naive impression it'd be pretty much plug-and-play.

This might be a really stupid question. I'm helping a friend replace his discontinued motherboard, but he's unable to tell me the CPU it used, aside from the socket (LGA775).

His original mobo was this

The closest match I could find was this

The latter is a bit updated, but it doesn't support hyperthreading.

The only info he could give me was that it was a Intel Dual Core 1.8 ghz, but that makes it either a Pentium D 1.8ghz or a core 2 duo 1.8 ghz. Pretty sure Core2 duo doesn't support HT, but I belive some Pentium D did. If his CPU is indeed a HT capable Pentium D, will it still function on the latter MoBo, despite the fact that the Mobo is lacking in terms of HT support?

A:Hyperthread-capable CPU, but Non-capable Motherboard

The latter supports all, and more, CPUs that the original one does:
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Support/CPU_Support_Model.aspx?detailid=897&MenuID=69&LanID=0
vs http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Support/CPU_Support_Model.aspx?detailid=858&MenuID=69&LanID=0
He'll have no trouble running the CPU. Except for having a craptastic ECS motherboard but that's no news for them.

I am running completely wireless now. I have a Linksys WRT54G router and about 5 computers connected to it wirelessly (G).

I have a printer that has a built in network card, and you can configure the IP address from the setup screen on the printer. (Xerox C2424)

I'm trying to link the printer up to the router, wirelessly. I have been told that you can use a USB Print Server, but that would not be necessary considering that I have a built-in network card already in the printer. I just purchased a DWL-G700AP D-Link Access Point to hook up to the printer, but I am unsure of how I should configure it. I am trying to link the printer wirelessly to the router, and sharing that to the people on my network.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

I bought a D630 and when downloading drivers, I notice theres x64 drivers listed so how would I know its capable of using xp or vista x64? Would I notice better performance on it?

A:How do you know if its capable of x64?

They will only work if you have a 64-bit operating system installed. It's likely you only have 32-bit but right click my computer and go properties, should tell you if its 32 or 64 there, at least in Vista it does. 64-bit drivers are only for 64-bit so they're made to support that type of system, just as 32-bit are made for 32-bit. For the most part, those drivers aren't going to offer any form of speed difference, they're just drivers to run on that type of system as 32-bit won't work. How ever as a whole, 64-bit has better memory utiliisation and speed improvements, etc.

Hello, I was just wondering if my PC can handle 64-bit version of windows. My friend has been forcing me to switch from 32 to 64 but I'm a little bit worried because I have only 2gb of ram. Any suggestions? Should I go for 64-bit without upgrading my ram or stay with 32-bit? Your answers will be highly appreciated, thanks in advance By the way, I attached my pc specs for your reference.

A:64-bit Capable?!

Unless you plan to install 4GB or more of RAM, moving to 64-bit will not buy you anything. 2GB is the MINIMUM amount of RAM for 64-bit Win 7.

If you look at the screenshot you posted of your system info, at the bottom of the System section, it tells you that the system is 64-bit capable.

If I were to upgrade something on your system, the first thing I would upgrade would be your video card.

A:Capable PC?

I looked up that graphics processor and it looks like a competitive unit. Capable.26.5 GB/sec.Bandwidth. Your ram memory is a good speed (667mhz) but try to raise that to two gigs. It will give your gaming more headroom. I'm not real familiar with the T7250 but 800 mhz FSB, &4 MB of cache will game O.K. 2 cores of 2.0GHZ won't burn the trail but it should keep up. I noticed that the 'Raptor' series offers 7200 RPM hard drives. And that 2 Gigs of Ram = $90. Also comes in a 2.4 GHZ core 2. Good Luck.

A:Crysis Capable?

That wireless card is pretty old(release in 2004, discontinued in 2007), only does Wireless-G, and has no official Windows 7 support; get a modern Wireless-N card like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/263388-tp-link-tl-wn951n-wireless-n-pci-adapter-tl-wn951n

My old PC with a Core 2 Duo E6550(oc'd to 3.5Ghz) with a 512MB Geforce 8800GT could run Crysis decently, I don't see why this system wouldn't be able to do it even better. But if you do have any extra money available, moving up to the Radeon HD 6850 would be better.

The power supply is a bit on the weak side, 530 watts and from a brand I'm not really familiar with so not sure on the quality if it.

I have a desktop that uses an Asus Z87 mobo. It is wireless capable (has an antenna you connect via two tiny cable connection to the back of the case). I have not used the wireless capability at all in the 4 years I've had the computer. I instead use an Ethernet cable direct connection between router and computer. Recently, the signal strength of that "hard-wired" connection dropped from 5 bars to 1, so something has gone very wrong. I swapped out the Comcast Gateway modem/router for a new one, but it made no difference. So today I disconnected the Ethernet cable, set up the wireless connection.

Since I am no longer using a wired connection, I expected to see only 3-4 bars of signal strength. To my delight, I'm getting 5!!! Great. . . but I haven't answered a basic question about why the Ethernet connection is all but unusable. Is it (a) because the Ethernet cable, which is 50' long and at least 10 years old, has developed a break, or (b) my LAN card is failing? Before I buy a new cable, I'd like to be sure that's the problem, not the LAN card. So my question is, does the wireless antenna connect to the LAN card, or (like USB wireless adapters), does it send its signal to the mobo by other means? If its signal goes thru the LAN card, it means the card is working. If the LAN card is not involved, it means my Ethernet cable is the culprit.

A:Wi-fi capable motherboard

If that 50' long ethernet cable is 10 years old and has developed a break, that likely is the problem.
You'll know for sure by replacing it.

A:Is my computer capable of 64 bit?

I think your question is if your PC is capable of running a 64 bit operating system?

The answer is yes. However, you likely won't benefit from it. The HP website says the computer supports a maximum of 4 GB memory (one of the main reasons people use 64 bit operating systems is because they need/want more than 4GB memory). You also may have trouble finding 64 bit drivers for the motherboard components..

I have a friend who needs a high end laptop to edit video from a GoPro Hero4 camera

It is suggested :
For higher resolution videos (1080p 60fps and higher): We recommend at least 3.0 ? 3.7 GHz Ivy Bridge processors (third-generation Core-based processors or AMD equivalent), 4 GB RAM, and a graphics card comparable to an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M. The graphics card and processor speed is important particulary for 4K and 2.7K resolution video playback.

First of all the make and model board is the thing needed here in order to look that up and find out if any Vista drivers were made available since those can be used on 7. After 2yrs. since Vista's release Asus came out with the Vista 64bit updates for the older Socket AM2 board in use here.

With the specifications looked up you can also go directly to the chipset manufacturer to see what they have available as well as simply allow the Windows updates to locate the optional hardware and software updates once the 7 installation is on and the update history is scanned.

I am in need of a tech that can remotely go on to my computer and set up the drivers for a Nisca PR5200 card printer. This looks like a job that is out of my expertise. Fee's would be fine.

A:Tech that is remote capable

There are drivers here: http://www.nisca.co.jp/support.html
The page is in English, but if after you try the DownloadTool, and you still cannot get the printer to work right, let me know and I will remote assist.

Hi,
I was just wondering since I have a logo on my computer that says Vista Capable.
Will that mean my computer will run 2 times as fast as a Vista Capable PC?
It says Vista Capable PC on my computer but my system meets the minimum requirements of a Premium Ready PC.
My system is a:
AMD ATHLON 64 X2 Dual
Core Processor 3800+
2.00GHz, 960MB of RAM
250 GB Hard Drive
I found out this is the minimum of Premium Ready PC but I have a label that says Vista Capable which is half of the system requirments above. Does that mean my computer is X2 as fast.
Thanks.

A:Windows Vista Capable Pc

No, the differences are related to the capability of using Windows Vista features - not the speed.

Anyone know if there is a timeline for release of 1.5TB or 2TB hard drives suitable for RAID 5 or 6 arrays ?

And by that I mean no "green" junk that powers down the drives and makes them drop out of the array or having to mess around with TLER settings and praying they work and your controller does not mark all your drives as junk. For example, 3Ware does not have any of the 1.5 or 2 TB drives on its approved list for this very reason. You'd literally throw your away your entire array on the first "green" thing these drives did.

In short, I am looking for enterprise-type 7200RPM drives, especially those that can accept MAID commands from the controllers which spin the drives down but know they are still good and able to be powered back up quickly. Any info is appreciated.

Have you tried Google?

I have decided to build a computer for my brother. He is far from wealthy, so I am building him an affordable system. This has brought me to the use of AMD Sempron. Here is the motherboard and processor.

Processor:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1531110&CatId=0
AMD Sempron 64 3400+ 2.0GHz 256KB Cache 1600MHz FSB Socket 754 Hyper-Transport 64-Bit (Palermo) Processor with Fan SDA3400BXBOX at TigerDirect.com
Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813186010
Foxconn 755A01-6EKRS ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail at Newegg.com

Here is my question. The motherboard supports "AMD Athlon 64/Sempron" processors. The Sempron processor that I am going to use is a "Sempron 64bit Hyper-Transport" processor. Because the motherboard has the ability to support AMD Athlon 64, shouldn't it be able to support the "Sempron 64" as opposed to a normal "Sempron" ??

Thanks in advance. ;]

A:Are these new computer parts capable with each other?

It looks like a good list, except for the MSI graphics card, they have poor support. Personally I would get the same version GPU from ASUS or EVGA.
The system should be a good one, love the case choice too.

I have Windows XP Pro, SP3.

I have some experience with Linux, mostly Fedora. One of the best things in it, to me, is the Clipboard. In Fedora (Fedora Core) anyway, the Clipboard is much more capable than in Windows. For instance: you can put any number of items in the Clipboard, you just highlight something and it automatically goes in to the Clipboard (you don't have to right click the highlighted area and click Copy) and the best thing of all, to me, is that the contents of the Clipboard are saved when you log off and are there again when you log on.

Is there an application that runs in Windows that does these things?

Thanks,

royeo

A:Is there an app that makes a more capable clipboard

Yes there is. THis one is excellent and you can't beat the price Free.

Hi everyone
My laptop, Acer Aspire 5735z is equipped with an LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT10N optical drive and I wonder if it is capable of writing (or printing) LightScribe DVDs. I searched on the internet and I can't find an answer, so here I am ^^

If it's not capable, is there a way to make it so, like an updated firmware or cross flashing ?

A:Is my drive LightScribe capable

From memory you should have a logo on the drive. I don't know if you can make a drive lightscibe.

Seriously? No. I am not sure anybody has the time to compile a list like that. Why don't we ask nicely for a link to recommended RAM that will work. Where do you live (country)?
