Yoga 920 Function keys F4-mic F7-airplane mode F8-camera stopped working

Q: Yoga 920 Function keys F4-mic F7-airplane mode F8-camera stopped working

Touchpad is working only intermittently. Under Human Interface Devices, I have 2 entries for 12C HID Device. When the pad stops working, one will have a ! in a triangle with a code 10 error. I can uninstall, hard shut down (note: restart does nothing. Hard shut down is required) and have the touchpad back, usually throughout startup. It will disappear again just after startup. Rinse, repeat four or five times, and it will work for maybe a couple of hours. I've removed everything from Startup. I've updated using Lenovo Vantage and Windows Update. I am at the point of considering a factory reset, but I'd rather not do that if anyone has a suggestion? I've been dealing with this about two weeks. Not sure if it was in conjunction with a Windows Update, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised. Note: If I uninstall both 12C HID Device entries, rather than uninstalling the second entry, the first reappears with the warning sign.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I initially booted my Yoga 920, pressing F1 F2 F3 work fine for volume controls with a UI prompt for the function.Pressing F4 toggled the mic mute with a UI prompt.F5 could be used to refresh a webpage.F6 toggled the use of the touchpad, but did not show a UI prompt.F7 toggled airplane mode with UI prompt.F8 toggled camera function with UI prompt.F9 locks fine.F10 works fine too.F11 F12 toggles brightness with UI prompt. I don't know what happened along the way, but now F4 (mic), F7 (airplane mode), F8 (camera) stopped working. Nothing happens when I press the buttons. I'm running Windows 10 Home, version 1709, OS Build 16299.125. Maybe someone can help me in restoring the functions of those buttons? And additionally, maybe add a UI prompt for F6 (touchpad)?

Hi, I've read some posts about other fn keys not working, but can't find anything about these two (fn+q and fn+e). I just reinstalled windows 8.1 (and am running dual boot ubuntu) and now these two keys have no effect.  Does anyone know which drivers are responsible? Or have any other ideas? Thanks.

Ya, if you look in the applications section of our Drivers and Manuals, you can download the Acer Launch Manager. Good place to start, but I'm not 100% on what software is required for the keystrokes, and not all software can be downloaded (due to royalties and other legal issues).

This is the third time that it is happening. The keyboard works fine before taking off, then when the airplane goes to a certain height several keys stopped working. After landing it starts to functioning again. Definitely related to air pressure, which is pretty funny and annoying ... I mean, I don't think I am being picky given that every one else on the air plane is playing with their laptops...

Hi, Did a fresh install of windows and drivers on my 720s after using it for a few weeks. Everything seems to be working except the OSD on the function keys Read through forums and other resources and they say it's connected to the energy management driver. I did install, and reinstalled that but it's just a driver and no software can be seen on the start up menu or list of apps.  Is there something else I need to install to have the OSD working for function keys? Appreciate anyone who can help.

Hi,I had to post this question because non of the solutions available on the internet worked for me. Some weeks ago, my FN + Function Keys stopped working on my HP ProBook 4540s. For example, FN + F7 = MUTE.I had updated all of my drivers, including the HP Hotkey Support driver for my laptop's model (even reinstalled); ran Keyboard Diagnostics in UEFI, everything was fine. I then decided to remap some of my keyboard keys to check if there was really a problem with my Windows and found out tthere was. Even after remapping, these combinationes weren't working. I thought to give it a try here in the forums before getting my laptopp serviced, I really don't think I need to do it because I believe there is some problem in the software like some option for this is disabled. But action keys was not even in the BIOS as others had (my BIOS was updated). Functions keys (F1-F12) were working, FN was working too but combinations aren't woking.  Hope someone helps me out,HDash_Tech

As the title states, since the last three days certain function keys have stopped working properly.Fn+ : F3/F5/F6/F7 have stopped working whilst FN+: F4/F8/F12/Up/Down/Left/Right/Delete/Home/PgUp/PgDn/End are still working normally. It's a rather annoying situation since I am unable to enable/disable the touchpad this way. I have tried reinstalling chipset, IO, Touchpad drivers as well as Acer ePower and Quick Access to fix the problem. I have updated the bios to the latest version of 1.37 and tried a system restore to a point where I didn't have this issue. Yesterday and today I have been able to get it to work for an hour or so, the first time I tried FN+Shift+Numlock and after that it worked again. Alas this option has not worked for me after that. Today I got it back to work after restarting all the applications of Quick Access. Unfortunatly after playing a game for an hour, it stopped working again... I have contacted live chat support, but the guy I was talking to had no idea what he was talking about. Hey there, the touchpad on my 5 months old E580 Thinkpad didn't work after booting my laptop regularly. The laptop was also weirdly slow in reacting to key strokes on the keyboard. The two implemented mouse keys on the touchpad still work to some degree. Actually a click with two fingers on any are of the touchpad equals a right mouse click. Now, I use the trackpoint to navigate.I tried to update the touchpad drivers, which were already the "newest". I deactivated and activated it again and restarted the laptop, none of which has yielded any result so far. Does anybody have an suggestion of how to solve this problem? Best,Moejo

My Lenovo Yoga 920 camera stopped working  - the little light near the webcam was on but camera did not work. At some point it said it was in use in another app, though that was not correct, and the message disappeared in further attempts. Tried everything, privacy settings, etc. Nothing worked. Later the same evening some sliding  screen appeared out of the blue on the right with a few settings including one for the camera that I hadn't seen before! I clicked - started working automatically!  Trying to find that setting again but can't reproduce it anywhere. Anyone know to what I am referring?

That is, as in any normal computer keyboard where Esc is Esc, and F1 is F1, etc. If I set 'hot key' mode in bios then Esc is normal, but function keys act as hot keys.If I set 'function key' mode in bios then function keys are normal, but Esc is paper display toggle. I don't think it's too much to ask. Best regards.

When I press the F3 key, I need the Yoga 920 to interpret this as "F3" and not "Increase sound volume." In the past, certain Lenovo notebooks had a BIOS setting that let you reconfigure the function keys to do just that. I don't believe the Yoga 920 has this BIOS setting (why don't all Yoga models have a similar BIOS structure is beyond me). I have an excellent Microsoft external keyboard that allows you to lock the function key, simply by pressing "Fn" (a small light turns on in the "Fn" key, similar to the "CapsLk" key.) Any suggestions? It can't be this difficult, can it?

Just got a new Yoga 910. One thing is driving me crazy -- it appears the function keys by default require pressing the Fn button. I don't use the alternate things like airplane mode and speaker volume as much and would prefer to have function keys primary and then press fn keys for the quick keys. There is mention of reversing the fn key in the bios, but under configuration I have no hotkey option. I'm running bios 2JCN39WW which appears to be the latest. How do I switch the hotkey / function key priority so I can use F4 and F2 without holding the fn button?

A:Yoga 710 - How restore the Function Keys to defaul...

Hi ab001atl ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

When hotkey mode is disabled, press the Fn key and the appropriate hotkey to access the corresponding hotkey function. (page5)

By default, the hotkey functions are accessible by pressing the appropriate hotkey. However, you can disable the hotkey mode in the BIOS setup utility. To disable the hotkey mode:
1 Shut down the computer.
2 Press the Novo button and then select BIOS Setup.
3 In the BIOS setup utility, open the Configuration menu, and change the setting of HotKey Mode from Enabled to Disabled.
4 Open the Exit menu, and select Exit Saving Changes.

Context menu provided with right click mouse have corresponding key on traditional keyboards in between the right alt and ctrl keys (may not be available for the yoga due to design) as shift +F10 .

Else onscreen keyboard may help or simply use a key remapping software to assign the task of right click to another key such as this and this.

Update us how it would work for you.

Regards

Normally I have to hold down the fn key and then a function key in order to do something. For example I need to hold fn and then click F1 if I want to mute the sound. Today all of a sudden, I did not have to hold down the fn key anymore. This means that the ways fn and the function keys interact have switched. I was wondering why this would have happened out of nowhere and if I should be worried? I have looked all over and I definitely have not accessed the BIOS and fn+esc just changes the screen to paper display. How could I have changed the way fn and the function keys have been working?

Hi everyone. I recently installed Windows 7 64-bit on a new V310-15ISK which came with FreeDOS. I got all the drivers installed ok, everything seems to be working fine, except for a couple of quirks: 1. Airplane mode hotkey (F7) is not turning the wireless adapter on/off as it should. Instead I get a blank wireless status window which tells me to turn my wireless adapter on first (which it already is).2. Somewhere in Lenovo Energy Management it says it can't give further info about the battery because it's not an original Lenovo battery  (which is a lie). I had to try a few ACPI drivers for the hotkeys to work as there was none on the product support page. I settled on 4eem02ww.exe which is the most recent functional version I found on the web. Can anyone point me to a proper ACPI driver that lets Airplane mode enable/disable the wireless adapter (and displays all battery info)? Cheers.
