I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For a few days I have problem with developer licence renew on Windows. I have Lenovo tablet and I can't renew my developer license on Windows 8.1. For licence renew I using Powershell.

After entering login credentials I get error "we couldn't get your developer license for windows 8.1. Our Server is unavailable right now. Please try again later".

Maybe who knows the solution to renew licence and what's the problem with licence server ?

Hi All,

Have upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my Laptop. All is good except i cant use Visual Studio 11 due to the fact i cannot acquire a "developer license"

In other websites people have directly attributed this to upgrading from Windows 7, unfortunately I cannot clean install this laptop so need to find how to get the License as is

Does anybody know the resolution to this issue?

What i get is that you try to get the developer license and it fails asking you to retry (never works)

Hi All,
We have developed the windows 8.1 store app using xamarin.
1.Try to install the appx in the windows 8.1 tablet using powershell
2. Its asking the developer license to install the application in the tablet.
We want to install the appx package in windows tablet without developer license prompt(Because it is enterprise application and domain joined) and want to use the SCCM App distribution in future.
Note: We referred an MSDN reference about side-loading and Product key activation for APPX installation on Tablet. which states Purchasing Side-loading product key is cost $100. we would like to know more licensing details about it.

I noticed that to write a Metro-style app in Microsoft's development kit I have to get a developer license. It was free, but when it expired after 1 month, the apps I had written were disabled -- even on my own computer. That seems a little disturbing to me. With this arrangement, Microsoft has the power to disable anything I develop retroactively. Is that true? If so, should I be worried? Is there another development platform for Metro apps that doesn't require a developer license from Microsoft?

A:Will we be required to get a developer license?

After reading your post, I opened Visual Studio, and it prompted me to renew my license in a popup window. I am now renewed, for another month, up through 9/3/2012. Once Windows 8 is officially released, you'll be able to get a license for $49/yr.

That said, I don't know why you're not prompted to renew. Did you opening Visual Studio? Let me know...

Edit: Open Visual Studio (Express for Win 8 in my case). If you're not prompted to renew, open the Store menu at the top and try one of the submenus.

Dear forum readers,

I have a problem when trying to install:

Windows 8 Developer Preview with developer tools English, 64-bit (x64)

When using the DVD tool from Microsoft as explained in one of the tutorials in this forum,
I receive the following error message:

The disc does not have sufficient free space.

I use a 4.7GB DVD disc, and the size of the Windows 8 Developer Preview with tools English, 64-bit (x64) iso file
size is: 4.83 GB.

Of-course this is the source of my problem, and i need a way to fix it.

What i am doing currently, is downloading the Windows 8 Developer Preview without tools.

I have read some solutions, but they did not offer what i am looking for.

I need a way to install the complete version with developer tools, including:

64-bit Windows 8 Developer Preview
Windows SDK for Metro style apps
Microsoft Visual Studio 11 Express for Windows 8 Developer Preview
Microsoft Expression Blend 5 Developer Preview
28 Metro style apps including the BUILD Conference app

I only have a normal DVD drive, no USB stick of the required size, but I have a second hard-disk with sufficient space.
AND I have an external USB hard-disk with sufficient space.

Tried to install from local hard-disk in Windows 7 by using the setup.exe in the sources directory, gives me the following error:

Hi folks,
I am working with a company (that I have actually worked with for over 10 years on a consulting basis) and we are auditing our Microsoft Windows Server and server product licenses and preparing to upgrade Windows Server products.  We have ran into a snag, where the former System Administrator left the company a few years ago, however it was understood that the information regarding the VLSC was transferred to another partner in the company.  A new Systems Administrator has taken over, and we have determined that we do not have this information, including a Microsoft account username and password to access the VLSC and our Windows Server 2008R2 product keys, license agreements, SKUs, and downloads.  Unfortunately, the situation became took a turn for the worse about three months ago when the partner that had this information passed away.  No one at the company has access to this login information.  I currently administer most of their licensing, and have access to their much of their licensing information, download, product keys, etc., but I am clearly missing some very important ones.  I called Microsoft and they were of no assistance.  Since I am an administrator on the network, I can create a mailbox that the VLSC was probably originally registered under, however the VLSC says that Microsoft account is not even valid, not even prompting for the password.
I have a mailbox on their Exchange Server for their domain to prove I am ass... Read more

This machine is a very common model in my environment and I have done many fresh windows installations using the OEM license key without issue. however, on this particular machine, it reports it cannot activate because it cannot contact the KMS for activation.
Again, to clarify, this is the OEM product key that has been automatically pulled over from UEFI and NOT a MAK/KMS key.

I've run diagnostics as typically requested for this type of issue and can provide any additional information you might need. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!!

Deploying a Windows 8.1 Enterprise image on Dell Venue 11 (5130 atom version)
Created an UEFI FAT32 USB drive (http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US)
I replaced sources\install.wim with a customized Windows 8.1 image.
The customized image is 4,6GB large so i had to split it into 2 .swm files because of the FAT32 4GB limitation.
Setup is starting and when i want to install, the following error occured and i have to cancel the installation.
"Windows cannot find the Microsoft Software License Terms.  Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation"
is there a file which points to the license terms that i can modify or something like that??

A:Windows 8.1 install from USB with multiple swm files license terms error

Hi MartinOtter,
Windows 8 and 8.1 Setup does not support split .wim files, so this might have been the original problem. The TechNet article "Split a Windows Image (.swm) File to Span Across Multiple DVDs"
has this note:
In Windows 8.1 and Windows 8, Windows Setup does not support installing a split .wim file.
And later it states:

You can apply the file to your destination computers only by using the /Apply-Image option in the DISM tool.

If you are still having issues with this deployment while using a .wim that isn't split, can you
check the log files?

Hi, First time poster here. I am just recently having issues with my computer saying windows it not genuine. I found this forum through another thread of a person who had basically the exact same issues as I did here: Windows Genuine and Activation Issue

I too bought this PC originally from best buy or some place, and it came with no windows CD or anything. I went 2 years without formatting, finally I got sick of it and when I installed my new SSD I finally had to do it. The best advice I found was doing the same as OP, downloading the copy of windows from digital rivers and entering in my windows key(which I had lost as well but recovered using one of the software tools).

I installed windows about 4-5 weeks ago, I have rebooted many times since and only in the last day did it start giving me this same windows it not genuine error. Upon trying to validate my key it will error out, and I get the same

the software licensing service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license

How can I take this key from the side of my computer case and make windows genuine again? Someone in another post I found said something about a command "wmic bios get serialnumber" and thats the same exact number that comes up thats on the side of my case. Is this the right one, or should I be looking inside the case for ANOTHER key that fits the windows key length? The key off the side of my machine is only about 10 digits and I am un sure ... Sorry for posting in haste without taking the time to properly look over everything. I found ANOTHER sticker which had the proper key further back on my computer base that was listed as win7 home premium OA HP with a totally different windows key which I just entered via the system change product key and it authenticated as genuine. Big thank you to this community for the knowledge that was already right in front of my face!

For others having this issue, Hopefully your sticker is still intact and readable. If you are getting this same issue, Just find the sticker on your computer or laptop(apparently laptop fades WAY quicker if not covered up by something to make it more long lasting) and enter the OA key that looks exactly like windows key into the change product key option on System.

I'm trying to install Windows 8.1 via Parallels on my Macbook Pro.
I create a new VM and use the .ISO file and get the error: "Windows cannot find the microsoft software license terms. Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation."
I found this question was answered here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/b1021d66-9774-4b5b-b50b-ad860c5ecc89/windows-8-enterprise-rtm-installation-error?forum=w8itproinstall
However, following the steps of the solution did not work for me. I created a blank VM and chose Windows 8.1. After this, it asks me to insert the installation disc. I cannot figure out how to use the .ISO as the source at this point. I tried copying and
pasting the path to the file and dragging the file to the VM, but no luck.
If there is a way I can install this without this error message or by somehow getting the path to the .ISO that'd be perfect.

Be sure to uncheck 'Express Installation' when installing, otherwise Windows setup will fail with an error "cannot find license terms" and get stuck in a reboot cycle.

a requirement to have a specific type of email associated with the Microsoft account in order to get past this?

Hi, I need to know if someone with Athlon XP or Sempron CPU has also problems with Windows Developer Preview. Every time I run Services or EventViewer...etc the application crashes with the culprit being d3d10warp.dll.

I dont think it's the CPU, at least there's no reference to SSE2 instructions in the official requirements.

I'm running the Windows Developer Preview 64 bit w/o developer's tools on my computer. I installed it through an iso mounted to a USB flash drive. Now, months later, it says I need to insert the disk to repair Windows. (It froze and when I restarted it said this). I can only download the consumer preview now, rendering me unable to fix it. I want to update to the Consumer Preview on my computer for the purpose of the iso being "corrupt" (missing different files each time) no matter how many times I try to redownload and remount it. If anyone knows of somewhere I can download it or has it saved somewhere and is willing to upload it somewhere, I would greatly appreciate it.

A:Windows Developer Preview 64 bit w/o tools iso?

Easiest choices of many:

1) Try booting to safe mode then open an elevated command prompt and run this command to fix it:

sfc /scannow

2) Just custom install the Consumer Preview.

3) If you still have the USB intact, use that to repair.

There might be something wrong with your hard drive, because Windows files do not really become corrupted otherwise, causing freezes. (Maybe 3rd party software over-writting but still probably would not freeze.)

Once you have any operating system up and running, run this command from an elevated prompt:

chkdsk /r

Dear forum readers,

I tried to install Windows 8 Developer Preview.

After some initial problems, i succeeded in installing Windows 8 (dual boot ) on my laptop.

However, for some reason my printer was installed, but not working.

Printer: Canon LBP6000, it appeared in the control panel, but no properties of the printer.

Tried to download 64-bit drivers from Canon for Windows 7.
Installed the driver, rebooted and try to print.

Error message: something like connection problems. Booted in Windows 7, no problems with printing.

Rebooted in Windows 8,
Got an error message from Explorer.exe and the laptop shuts down.
Windows 8 started
try to fix the printer problems, still not managed to get the printer working.

Then i tried to log of and shut down, Windows 8 did not want to log of, so i tried <CTRL><ALT><DEL>
and got finally to the option to shut down.

Got an error message from Explorer.exe and the laptop shuts down.

Since Windows 8 is not stable on my system, especially not able to shut down, or log of normally,

I want to get rid of Windows 8 Developer Release, but i do not like to loose Windows 7.

It is a dual-boot system.

Hope someone can explain to me how to safely remove Windows 8 Developer Preview. And keep Windows 7, without the Windows 8 Developer Preview boot loader.

Best regards,

A:Windows 8 Developer Preview on Linux Tablet

No. It does not meet the system requirements. Below is the requirements for each. I have highlighted the aspect that your Tablet doesnt meet. While you can try to force the install of Windows with only 512MB of RAM, I would not suggest it as it would not do you any good. It will make the system slow.

System Requirements
Windows 8 Release Preview works great on the same hardware that powers Windows 7:

Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

Windows 7 system requirements
If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Windows Vista system requirements
If you want to run Windows Vista on your PC, here's what it takes:

1 gigahertz (GHz) 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) of system memory (512 megabytes (MB) for Home Basic)
40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space (20 GB for Home Basic)
Support for DirectX 9 graphics with WDDM and 128 MB of graphics memory (32 MB for Home Basic)
DVD-ROM drive
Audio Output
Internet access (fees may apply)

On Tuesday Microsoft unveiled more details about the next operation system Windows 8 at BUILD developer conference in Anaheim, California and we could not miss out this event!

Avast was always able to fully operate on every next Windows OS starting its public Beta version and our users can rely on us regarding Windows 8.

They will ship only one Windows version which will run on all Windows 8 PCs. Desktops, laptops, tablets, cell phones, big screens, small screens. No more separated OS versions like in the past (see Windows and Windows CE/Windows Phone variants). Every desktop application should now support both interfaces ? so will avast!

A:Avast Blog: Windows 8 developer conference

Thanks, Aaron. I had a feeling that Avast! would soon be on the case of developing a compatible AV with this OS. I hope that they're still considering making a free option, just as we have for Vista and Windows 7.

A:Safari 5 Developer Tools not working (Windows 7)

I found this snippet on - ahem - another forum. May be relevant (credit due to IECUSTOMIZER):

Check that there is no icon in the taskbar for 'Developer Tool'.

There is a known issue that if you minimize or maximize the Devloper Tool window and then close the browser, the next time you start the Developer Tool it will open with the saved Window State (ie. The window won't be visible, but there will be a icon in the task bar).

To fix this right click on the Developer Tool icon in the Tasks bar and select Maximize from the context menu to maximize the Developer Tool window and then resize to your preferences. Close the browser to save the window size preferences of the Developer Tool and browser.

The next time you start IE8 the Developer Tool should open with the saved size and position preferences.

Beginning today you can download the Windows Phone Developer Tools CTP Refresh (WPDT CTP) from http://developer.windowsphone.com, which means you can now build Windows Phone 7 apps on the final release of Visual Studio 2010 (VS2010). While this update is primarily intended to enable development using the final release of VS2010 there are a few new things here too.

Examples of what’s new & changed include:This release has been tested to work with the final release of Visual Studio 2010.
An updated Windows Phone 7 OS image for the Windows Phone Emulator.
A few APIs in the frameworks have been added and or changed. See this MSDN page for more details.
The documentation has been updated with new and expanded topics. See this MSDN page for more details.
We’ve provided limited support for launchers and choosers. In cases where the underlying built-in experience is not present launchers and choosers are still not available (i.e. the email chooser asks you to select a contact, but there are no contacts in the emulator and no way to add one).
Pause/Resume events are now supported.
If the tools are installed as the admin user, non-admin users are now able to deploy to the emulator.
A problem with incremental deployment of projects has been fixed.
A problem resulting in the error "Connection failed because of invalid command-line arguments" being displayed during project creation has been fixed.
A problem where the Windows Phone node was not ... Read more

If so, I might "play" with it...if not I'll wait for the Beta.Think I got my answer: >>>The Win8 build they're releasing (the dev preview build) includes the Win8 OS, samples, SDKs, and Visual Studio. You do all of your dev and testing on that machine, either physical (if you install it on a real machine) or virtual (if you install it into a VM). Obviously to do touch testing and such you'd need a touch-capable machine, but the rest could probably be done either in a physical or virtual machine.<<<ETA: Good thread re this release going on here http://www.eightforums.com/windows-8-news/2221-windows-8-developer-preview-release.htmlEdit: Moved topic from General Chat to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I hope this thread will help others who experience the same problems installing to a Vertex SSD

Problem 1

When installing Windows Developer it was not possible to format the SSD. error 0x80300024 (it was also not possible to carry out any other formatting options)

Wipe the SSD with the Vertex Toolbox and format it to NTFS using Windows7 (no partitions necessary). During the Windows8 install skip straight over the formatting options.

Problem 2

After every install attempt the BIOS does not recognise the SSD (like it has vanished)

Switch the PC completely off or remove/replace the power plug to the SSD A restart is not enough!!!

Problem 3

The install runs nicely until the second reboot and then sticks on the circle of dots,

The install runs nicely until the second reboot and blue screens with the message Inaccessible_Boot_Device

Solutions I tried

I installed to a HDD to check that my install medium was OK. The install completed successfully.

I tried cloning the HDD to the SSD The clone worked OK but on Windows start I got an error message 0xc0000034
I tried then to do a startup repair but the SSD could not be found by the install medium despite it showing up in the BIOS This proved to be a dead end.

I had the brain wave to make a backup of windows from the HDD and copy it to the SSD. unfortunately Windows 8 does not seem to allow you to make an image of Windows I couldn't be bothered with installing a third party app such as Macrium (which may we... Read more
