Q: (Hijackthis log Analysis) Whenever I try to delete a file in my download file windows explorer stop working

Hi there,Whenever I try to delete a file in my download file, windows explorer stop working. I am currently running an antivirus scan on my laptop and I did so on my download and there was no apparent infections. I run a sfc scan from the cmd.exe and everything was fine. I have got an Hijackthis log Analysis, but I can't interpret it myself. Please can somebody? Thanks in advance.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4Scan saved at 21:44:12, on 08/01/2011Platform: Windows 7 (WinNT 6.00.3504)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.7600.16700)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Program Files\Soluto\soluto.exeC:\Windows\system32\taskhost.exeC:\Windows\system32\Dwm.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgtray.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\GrooveMonitor.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\IAAnotif.exeC:\Program Files\BT Broadband Desktop Help\btbb\BTHelpNotifier.exeC:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\hpwuschd2.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\FileCenter\Main\FileConvertAgent.exeC:\Program Files\DivX\DivX Update\DivXUpdate.exeC:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exeC:\Program Files\IDT\WDM\sttray.exeC:\Program Files\DellTPad\Apoint.exeC:\Windows\System32\hkcmd.exeC:\Windows\System32\igfxpers.exeC:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exeC:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD DX\PDVDDXSrv.exeC:\Program Files\LG Electronics\LG PC Suite IV\LinkAir\LinkAir.exeC:\Program Files\Zinio\ZinioReader.exeC:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exeC:\Program Files\DellTPad\ApMsgFwd.exeC:\Program Files\DellTPad\HidFind.exeC:\Program Files\DellTPad\Apntex.exeC:\Windows\system32\conhost.exeC:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqSTE08.exeC:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqbam08.exeC:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqgpc01.exeC:\Windows\System32\cmd.exeC:\Windows\system32\conhost.exeC:\Windows\system32\sfc.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgui.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgscanx.exeC:\Windows\system32\conhost.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgcsrvx.exeC:\Windows\system32\taskmgr.exeC:\Windows\system32\DllHost.exeC:\Windows\explorer.exeC:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HiJackThis\HiJackThis.exeC:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeR1 - Preferred Solution: (Hijackthis log Analysis) Whenever I try to delete a file in my download file windows explorer stop working

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am having this problem recently and I am not sure of the solution.
To solve the problem on the fly one has to start task manager, stop the explorer.exe process, start a new task, type in command.com enter explorer.exe into the Dos window and press enter.
This enables one to carry on using the computer.

Ways to prevent:

I have been told and have found what seems to be the solution:
Type run in the search programs and files(bottom right) click run, enter MSCONFIG, go to startup tab and disable programs that may be causing the problem.
I am not sure I have found the problem program causing this yet but I have disabled a couple of startup programs and the right click freeze seems to be happening less now??
Any comments.

Basically the title. Almost every single time i move ANY file or delete any file, the window im in freezes and the progress bar freezes. Now when i create a new folder the window im in freezes also, but i'd say its only 50% of the time. The temporary solution i found was to go to the task bar, end explorer, and restart it using run. Now when i check back on that folder, whatever action I did (ie delete file) does do what i wanted, its just the freezing. I'm looking for a permanent solution to this and any insight would be greatly appreciated.

A:Create New folder, move file, delete file. Explorer Freeze

Hi erod49, try looking in your error logs. You have given a good discription of the problem. Tel us your system specs as well.

To get into your error logs,

Left Click on Start Menu.
Right click on Computer and choose manage.
Click on the event viewer.
You now have loads of options to try and pin down what is happening.
Expand the error tab.
Look for things in the last 24 hours.

Other things to look for are updates, has an update caused this. Has your computer autoupdated any of the motherboard drivers.
Have you tried to restore the computer before the error started or has it always been like that.

I've been trying to speed up my PC and i've done alot of what has been mentioned. I just added more ram, and I've got another HDD ready to go in. I'm running XP home. The machine is a 4 year old dell. It's just gotten slower and slower.

I've run cccleaner and several programs to help. Now I'm onto Hijackthis. I've got my log but I don't know where to turn to see what I should leave "on" and what I should remove or turn off.

Thanks for the help.

HijackThis log file analysis
HijackThis is a program used by experienced users in order to detect browser hijackers. It allows you to identify any sort of spyware and malware (as well as some trojan horses and worms). This is achieved by scanning special zones of the registry as well as the hard disk drive, the results being listed in a structured window. Another feature of HijackThis is the creation of a log file, which can be saved as a simple text file and opened by any text editor (notepad as default). Until now, inexperienced users, who could not analyze the log file by themselves, had no other choice than posting it in a specialized forum and to hope that a more experienced user takes some time to analyze it. The script presented on this page is a way to analyze your log without help from the outside: simply copy/paste the content of the log file in the textbox below and hit the analyze button.

I have a .txt file that I can see in explorer. When I try to delete it it says "could not find this item"...
It's definitely not a virus. Also no bad sectors or anything like that.
I tried deleting it in safe mode. Didn't work.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hi

My Packard Bell desktop (2.6GHz 704RAM) is running very slow all of a sudden the last couple of weeks. When I say slow, its taking a minute or more to open browser page (although can surf ok then), but programs are hanging and there is somethign badly wrong somewhere..

I did not install any new software or any hardware, it just became slow all of a sudden.

To diagnose I have tried the following and made no difference:

1. Full Scan with Malwarebytes (showed up 2 threats which I removed)
2. Full Scan with Sbybot (didnt show up anything)
3. Full Scan with CCleaner
4. Ran TCP/IP Optimiser
5. Ran Defrag (did not require it)
6. Deleted all Temp folder files
7. System restored to date before problem happened
8. Ran Disc Check on C drive (fixed 2 bad sectors)
9. Checked Device Manager for Hardware issues (none)

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here we go.
So, my brother's family has been visiting in the past couple weeks, and my nephew spent pretty much the entire time on my computer. Anyway, he set a couple torrents to download, and now, when I try to delete one of his downloaded files, or access it, or go into the folder where it's located, I get a message saying that windows explorer is experiencing a problem and needs to shut down, or I get something about an exception priviledged instruction, (0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x04350001. Click okay to terminate, or cancel to debug. Cancel doesn't seem to do anything, and I have absolutely no idea what to do.

Um, so, anyway, if anyone has any information or advice, it'd be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance!

A:Windows Explorer Keeps Crashing When I Try To Delete A File

Lauren. First are you signed in as Administrato?
Second where is this file located. The Path?
I am not to familar with young ones these days so I need to know if this was a game or something like that he installed?
If so was it on Roxie?

From what I have read the area where this file is like a restricted area
I can not figure out how the file got there but you may want to try and do a search from Start and see if it brings it up and then click onto it from there. You should get access to it then

.Give us the Version of Windows that you are using and also the model.
These errors can be looked up on the Manufacturer

How long is the File name that you want ot get rid of. Sometimes if you assign a long file name your memory can not read it and will cause this to happen.

Do have Photo Shop or Adobe?

Try the suggestions above and then let us know what happens

Thank you Jitaa

Good Day!

I downloaded a video file from Youtube using IDM. It was downloqded successfully and then I moved the file to a different file location. After that, I opened the file and then my laptop lagged. Then I decided to delete the file. Unfortunately, I can't delete it. And then, Windows Explorer gives me a hard time after I moved that file. Every start up, it will just respond once and when I tried to click something (ex. My Document) It will just load and then not respond. If I close then reopen, I just a Window without anything in it. So I can't open a file anymore. Then, the Perormance Monitor shows 100% CPU usage everytime I open Windows Explorer.
Other installed application like Nero are still usable so I can open a file there. I tried to delete files and then it worked but that video file I downloaded, I still can't delete. It will just show "Recycling (2.3MB) 0 bytes/sec" (something like that) then will not respond.
I assumed that if I was able to delete that file, maybe everything will be Ok again.
So, please help me.
I'm not good in explaining so I hope you get my problem and help me solve it.

Thank you very much!

(OS: Windows Vista Premium)

That smells like a virus. Scan your system with all the scanners you can put your hand on - especially Malwarebytes - the free version. If you cannot download it normally, try safe mode or download it on another system and put it on a stick. Then run it from the stick - best in safe mode.

It's doubtful those files are missing. More likely a bug still present in HijackThis where it cannot correctly enumerate some entries, so it gives a (file missing).

I would not put any faith in online analyzers such as that one. Much better to use these online databases

There's nothing wrong with any of those entries. Please leave them alone.

Hi guys.

My Windows 8 laptop has been playing up a bit recently, most notably with the green ribbon of death problem and a couple of other things to do with indexing. I seem to have fixed the issues, but one thing that is still causing a problem is this one file in my Downloads folder. It is a .wav file which was a free (legal) download from soundcloud. When I first downloaded it (September last year), from what I can remember, it worked fine. Somewhere between then and now it seems to have got corrupted or something. I know it is this file causing the problems because not only will the song not play, it crashes Windows Media Player and crashes Windows Explorer when I try to delete it, move it, rename it etc. I've tried deleting it using Shredder, no luck. I have also tried the Unlocker program to attempt to delete it and it crashed that too. All of these things also happened in Safe mode, so no luck with deleting it there. I also tried deleting it with Command Prompt with no luck. I think that file may have been causing the majority, if not all of the problems I was having before. Earlier today I opened Task Manager and kept it as the first window, and then opened Downloads, clicking on each file one by one while monitoring Windows Explorer's CPU usage. For each file it remained low, well under 10% but then AS SOON as I click on the dodgy file it's CPU usage shot up to 50-70% and caused the green ribbon of death to come back above it. Even after closing Down... Read more

Hi guys,

I am attempting to simply copy mp4 files from my laptop/PC to my generic usb mass storage device I recently bought. I have a Sandisk Cruzer blade that works no problem. I bought a new 512gb usb disk from amazon because I wanted to be able to fit more VR videos to play on ps4's VR cinema app Littlstar. When I copy the mp4 files to the mass storage device they lose the picture of the file and just become the icon and no longer play even after they have fully transferred and the size is exactly the same as the original file.

Any help would be much appreciated.

After noticing the many hundreds of reported errors of this type I have just got to ask:
Why isn?t there a fix for it?  I figure it started happening after Windows-8 became available, so MicroSoft now has a patch to cause the system to go into a wait state for 30-60 seconds, every nth time you right click the mouse.
So how do you disable it?

A:Windows Explorer: not responding when I right-click a file or folder (to rename, delete, etc..)

start taskmgr and when you have the hang, go to taskmgr, make a rightclick on the explorer.exe process and select "create dump". Zip ad upload the dump.
You can also use ProcessMonitor to see what is the longest operation from the

What I mean is when I download like...Google Chrome (example). The download will be saved in your downloads folder. The download file is when you run it, and you follow the installation to open up Google Chrome. If you delete that, will it delete the program?

I know..it's kinda hard to explain :P

A:Can you delete your download file? Help please :)

When you download you will usually get a pop up save or run; click on run.
Then it will do its thing and finally say its installed, maybe even give you a desktop shortcut. At the point, you have to really try to uninstall it, not that easy.
If you do not want to use Chrome at that minute, you can delete the pop up.

Hi guys,
I did something really dumb, clicked on "Uninstall" in Control Panel, of my Atheros AR8152 PCI-E V3.2.

Was actually looking for something else, (an annoying toolbar), and thought that was it. Was only after a second or so, I realized it was the wrong thing, clicked "cancel", window box still asked if it was to be deleted on next start up, and stupidly I clicked "yes".
Obviously I don't want this, can this be reversed?

More as an alternative to twiddling my thumbs than anything else, I tried to produce a batch file that would count up the number and size of files in a folder, as well as the number and size of files with each extension. Hence it would say how many word documents I have and how much space they're taking up, etc.

I've managed to get a vaguely working model, but the output formatting is terrible (I just wanted it to say X bytes in Y "Z" Files, none of that ugly dotted variable names) and I have failed to get it to equate .htm and .html, .jpg and .jpeg, etc.

You would be better off using third party software that already does this. Plenty of them out there.
I personally would check the extension of each file using the cmd extensions of a for loop. then do an if statement for each file type you want to keep track of. then use a call statement to branch to a function that adds up the file sizes and number of files.

Hi all. Long time reader just signed up.

I'm having a very strange problem when trying to copy a zip file from one drive to another. I get "Windows Explorer has stopped responding" when trying to copy a zip file (I have WinRAR x64 installed). However, if I go into cmd and rename the ***.zip to ***.pih (or any other unidentified file extension) it copies no problem, and then I can rename it back to .zip and all is fine.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I can get round it by renaming in cmd, but it's a bit of a pain.

Thanks in advance

A:Windows Explorer Stopped working when copying a zip file.

What size is the file? Does it happen with all .zip files? What type drives are involved in the Copy or Move process? WinRAR shouldn't be involved when it's only a file stored on a drive but you might try uninstalling WinRAR as a test. If that proves to be the issue might try 7-Zip or Zipeg, both free.

Hello dmd, and welcome to Ten Forums.

What file are you trying to delete or rename, and what is it's full path?

In addition, please post a screenshot showing the file's owner and permission properties to see if there may be an issue there.

A:Posting hijackthis log file -- please help stop po

Your log shows that you are seriously behind on windows updates. It is essential that you update your windows before we continue to help you as the infections could reoccur. Go to http://www.windowsupdate.com and if it asks to install software, let it. Then click on the Scan link and let it do its thing. When its done you will see on your left a section called critical updates. Click on that section and install everything that you can. When it prompts you to reboot, do so. Then repeat this process again until there are no more critical updates listed. Then post a new log.

Hello all,

I've been using the expandable tree structure in Windows 7 Explorer every day for several years, but I just noticed recently that that I can't expand a selected folder into subfolders anymore. Lots of threads on the Internet about this (and found a couple in this forum), the standard advice is to click on Organize --> Folder and Search Options and check both the "Show all folders" and "Automatically expand to current folder" checkboxes, as I've done already, unfortunately this doesn't work. This action is shown in the middle of my screenshot (attached). The left pane shows the "flat" view with nothing expanded (most of these folders have subfolders), vs. what my tree used to look like (see the expanded tree example from a tutorial website on the right side of the screenshot).

Might anyone have any suggestions as to what I may have overlooked to get the folder expansion back? I suspect that if I reformatted my solid state drive and reinstalled Win 7 from scratch, everything would be fine (I've done this a few times before in order to recover disk space that had shrunk over time due to various Windows background processes that had accumulated, not installed Windows apps or data).

Thanks!

My mom has an HP Mini 210-1044NR laptop. It no longer boots up right. I've tried to get the desktop screen to load in normal mode and safe mode, yet I keep getting the same error message.

It says Windows Explorer has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem the next time you go online.

If I click close the program, it gives her a black screen and nothing happens. I cannot get to the start menu, even. Ctrl + Alt + Del brings up task manager, but it doesn't really give me much to work with.

I did have the desktop loaded at one point, but then it all froze up and shut down.

The problem details are:

Problem Event Name: InPageError
Error Status Code: c0000010
Faulting Media Type: 00000003
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.11
Locale ID: 1033

Is there any way to fix this? Maybe bring the desktop back up? Or even get to the start menu to run something and fix it? I am going crazy trying to figure out what to do. Please help!

I'm having a devil of a time trying to get MyWebSearch off, says I need administrator access when I am the administrator on the computer. I ran Spybot and it says it's a Trojan. Someone suggested I try HijackThis, but then didn't give me a clue about how to interpret the logs at all. I'd appreciate any help I can get on how to take it off or what needs to come off to make it run smooth.
