T440P maybe other models with HD 4600. Research

Q: T440P maybe other models with HD 4600. Research

Hi, I'm just trying to establish some information, all of those with just Intel HD 4600 graphics could you please list which driver version your using and the date. (can be found in device manager and under display adapters) + what OS your using. With the drivers did you notice any improvements with updated them if you did.Secondly any issues, or settings you have changed to make your apps or games work correctly. For reference, I used an older driver because newer ones cause screen tearing in games in Windows 10, to fix this I've heard many solutions like role back drivers to a mid 2016 driver, disable full screen optimization in compatability or regedit the DVR to not work.Your comments will be really helpful as I intend to put an article together. Thank you all you Thinkpad lovers

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi guys, can T440p with Intel HD 4600 & GeForce GT 730M handle 3840 x 1200 resolution? I want to buy a new 43" monitor for work and I'm not sure if my configuration can handle it. Thank you.

I apologize for going off topic. I am trying to learn win 7. I have aquired two Associates Degrees in networking. But, these degrees were aquired using and studying win xp. Are there any reliable resources that I can read or even study to get caught up on Win 7? I do not have any money to pay for any on line courses as my wife has stage 3 breast cancer and has to have Chemo for a year. I tried to get a computer/laptop with win 7 as a graduation present but to no avail. This was when my wife was diagnosed. Or, if anyone has a desktop/laptop they would like to give away, Lapotp preferred would be apprieciated. That can handle win 7 ultimate ( Ha, Ha) on the desktop/laptop.

Thank you in advance for any recomendation on resouces for win 7.

Still Learning, Learning Still

A:Win 7 research

You could check with the Win 7 upgrade advisor if your hardware is compatible with Windows 7, you then would just need to buy it (although I presume you are pretty much broke, from what I get from your post).

I don't think many people would be willing to give a computer for free, especially over the internet. You can find computers with Win 7 for very cheap nowadays though. I remember seeing one for $100 at a local pawn shop here, so you probably could have a similar deal on your end.

As for learning Win 7, there are plenty of tutorials on this forum, but you can't practice much if you don't have the OS installed.

I hope your wife gets better soon, cancer is no small thing.

So I'm starting to research SSD's (not sure when I'm buying)

I've never had or used one(yet) so I'm a little out of touch with them. I'm looking for 240gb/250gb and trying to stay around $200.00(us)
Here are two that I've been looking at...Please give your input on these two, and/or any others in the same ballpark.

Mushkin Enhanced Chronos MKNSSDCR240GB 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Keep an eye out for the corsair Force 3 which NewEgg has run for $199 with rebate. My choice would be the Samsung 830...but the 256GB version runs around $275. I prefer it over the Sandforce controller models...because it's not sandforce. They have had a shaky run.

In the past few weeks I havestarted an IT support course. The course is in parts is very intense.
I have recently been given an assessment to contrast DOS and Windows XP under the following headings:

Operating System Functions
User interface
Portability across various hardware platforms
File system supported.

The purpose of the assessment is to display an ability to carry out research using the internet while at the same time getting a background in a subject which we will be covering shortly. I have got some material but am finding difficulty in finding sites that give a reasonably simple comparison/explanation of the two systems.

Anybody have any ideas as to suitable sites that I should go to?

Hey guys,

I'm not sure if this is exactly the right section to post this question. However, for a research assignment, I must research on 1 change in computer engineering technology that has had social and environmental impact.
There is so many changes that i can't really think of which is the best. Examples are they increasing size of data storage, microprocessors getting faster, faster microprocessors, etc. I must be able to answer how that change came to be (how it evolved according to needs/wants of people), who created the change, What were the past effects of the development on society and the enviroment and projected impact ( How was it before the change), and how can it evolve in the future.
If anybody is willing to give a hand , it would be great. What is the best change to research on and any guidance towards finding the answers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

*If Mods/Admins need to move this to the right section, please do so. I just thought since it's hardware related, this would be an appropriate section.

So I did some research of my own and so far I've come up with this..

Firefox: Fast, and better known so more prone to having specials and compatibility with more sites and programs.
Opera: Faster by only a bit, overloaded with alot of nice but bulky and sometimes un-needed applications and add-ons.
Safari: Fastest I've used to date. But less compatible with sites and unattractive. (I don't like the Mac like look)
Avant: Medium/Fast, not as bulky, compatible with sites I've used.
IE 7: Uhm.. I really can't say anything nice about this one except it has been around for awhile. Horrible pop-up blocker.

So I'm curious, keeping in mind these are my opinion's and not neccesarly the facts/truth, what would you say was the best browser in terms of being fast, productive and not bulky or ugly? I've got all these browsers now and I'm trying to decide which one to keep, or if they are others I should check out.

And I like Safari the most so far.

According to AVG 7 I have 4 viruses on my system. Here are my details.

Downloader.Dyfica.H (I think it is deleted now)
Dropper.Netbuser.A (embedded Object)
IRC/Backdoor.SdBot (embedded Object)
Dropper.ExeBundle.AA (embedded Object)

I am running Win2k and just reformatted my C drive in the last few days. But I have never had these many viruses before.

I have tried to find information on all of these on the net. No one seems to have any information with the exception of F-Secure. It was able to tell me about 1 of them.

I went to Trend and did a scan...nothing was found. I scanned with Panda..nothing found. I scanned with the Cleaner..nothing was found. AVG seems to find these but they have no information on any of them which is very frustrating. Why is AVG finding them and none of the others?

Could these be false positives? If someone could help me try to understand why I would greatly appreciate it.

I see that you use Hijack this quite a bit and maybe that is what I will need to do. But I would like to understand why AVG finds so much and none of the others do..especially The Cleaner which is geared to trojans. And they were all updated as of the time I used them to scan to make sure I was current.

Thanks for any help.

First off, I'm sure everyone here (who knows about Pokemon or CreepyPasta) has heard of Lavender Town Syndrome. I'm not out to prove it as much as disprove it from a technical standpoint. Everyone has made videos about their own theories about the game. However, no one has looked at it from a technical standpoint. I've found bits and pieces all over the internet about certain important aspects of this myth and I'd like some input from a hardware standpoint.

According to the myth, the song plays with binaural beats. Also, only children can hear it because of their young ears.

GameBoy Sound Capabilities:
2 pulse wave generators, 1 PCM 4-bit wave sample (64 4-bit samples played in 1×64 bank or 2×32 bank) channel, 1 noise generator, and one audio input from the cartridge. The unit only has one speaker, but headphones provide stereo sound. Can this system reproduce Binaural sounds?

A GameBoy sound file, when ripped from a cartridge, is 50KB. (I am not encouraging ripping as much as stating a fact based on an observation.) As such, what all is it capable of? Binaural sounds?

One aspect I do believe is that, because the music was an octave too high, wearing headphones capable of such a high octave could make someone feel ill after playing for a while. (This was remedied in later releases.) Also, I listened to the music and I noticed a few things:

A constant base beat playing at a certain frequency (or one of the other tones had that much of a thump to it).... Read more

I recently had a very bad experience with trying to get my CPU to stay running. After taking it to Staples, I had more problems than ever. I ended up taking it to a local shop that only deals with computer repairs+custom jobs. The person who worked on my CPU had 28 years of experience with servicing computers.
This person ended up having to reinstall Windows as it had become so corrupted. I was told that all I needed for a firewall was Windows Defender. My ISP is Comcast+it is supposed to offer firewall protection also.
I read thru the tutorial here about Windows firewall, but still have some questions. I know how to get to my history log, but don't know how to set any parameters. I am noticing that there are potentially unwanted behavior warnings, but Defender has not notified me when I could be at risk. The tutorial also stated to research the port the traffic is coming in on, but in my history log, there aren't any references to ports.
Can someone here please help me sort this out?
I am also still not clear on a hardware firewall versus a personal one. I only have one computer+am not connected to any others in my home.
Is it better or necessary to purchase a firewall program?
The person who worked on my system stated all I needed was Windows Defender+removed my free version of Zone Alarm. I really didn't understand how to use Z.A. anyway, but I want to keep my system safe.

Thanks in advance for any+all feedback in this matter.

A:How Do I Research The History Log?

Windows Defender is not a firewall. It's a spyware checker. There is a Windows Firewall in XP but most experts believe it's ineffective because it only monitors incoming packets. So you should probably install a softwall firewall like Zone Alarm if you like it or Comodo. Be sure to uninstall the Windows Firewall when you install another firewall. Windows Defender runs in real time but isn't considered to be very effective. Add some additional spyware protection like Spyware Blaster, AVG Anti Spyware & Super Anti Spyware. You didn't say anything about anti virus but the guy who told you that Defender is adequate protection is telling you the wrong thing. As for what your ISP is offering, that's pretty much what I have from Rogers. It's a Norton product with firewall, anti virus & anti spyware at no extra cost. I downloaded it from the Rogers website. Maybe Comcast is offering something similar but I also have additional spyware protection and I run AVG Anti Spyware & Super Anti Spyware as on demand scanners weekly. You should only have one anti virus & firewall or there will be conflicts.

I am doing a research project in sound technology on the following topic.

I am interested in building an algorithm that can take a large sound file as input, and segregate and parse various words (human spoken format) in that file. These words, along with their position in the sound file may then be indexed. A search engine crawler can then use these indexed bookmarks against a search performed for the corresponding text and produce the sound files having a match of those words as results.

Please suggest the feasibility of such an algorithm and suggest how to go about it. Give some pointers.

I have a Dell 5200 Inspirion - bought it July 2015 (my third Dell laptop). About four months ago, the plastic mounts in the base (not the display lid) snapped due to pressure from the hinge. Never dropped. Never bumped. A familiar story, it seems.
I really don't have time to mess around and fix this kind of thing - saw various YouTube vids that explain how to do the job - and threw up my hands.
I looked around at other laptops - Toshiba, HP, Lenovo, Acer - they ALL have hinge problems. Apparently, in the rush to make laptops as thin and light as possible, they skimped on the engineering. Looking at the inside of the case, I'm surprised that these machines don't have more problems.
Want a laptop without a hinge problem? Buy a Mac.
Looks like I'm going to have to buckle down and take this box apart. I'm using gorilla glue.

I have seen a couple of posts now on this website about drivers not working after a Vista install and software not working etc.

I would like to remind everyone that there is a Vista upgrade advisor avilable at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx.

As with my previous "flaming" topic, I don't want this to turn into a slugfest against Vista. Any unfounded accusations against Vista on this topic will be reported.

But remember that Vista is a BIG upgrade and does have some issues, which can be expected, like any other upgrade. So, to all you flamers, at least Microsoft have been good enough to provide this free utility.

P.S. this doesn't pick up everything so search for "[your PC model name] and Vista" on Google before upgrading, too, especially if you have a laptop, because these can be tricky (like my laptop).

There was one thing left out of Microsoft’s CES 2009 keynote today and that was the announcement of Songsmith, by Microsoft Research.
Religious followers of this blog would know that Songsmith is the product of a Microsoft Research project with a student from the University of Washington called MySong which was showed off in early 2008. The software can automatically provide musical melodies to accompany any vocal singing you provide, making anyone audible a potential songwriter. Not that every teenager should be one.
Songsmith seems to have matured quite a bit from its early prototype days with new features such as “(allowing) you to expand your collection of musical styles and instruments through our partners, PG Music and Garritan” and “enables you to edit chords to create the perfect music accompaniment, even if you’ve never worked with chords before.”
As the second product to ship (first being AutoCollage) by the previously research-only-but-increasingly-commercial Microsoft Research (as the name suggests), Songsmith will only be available (soon) via the Microsoft Store as a digital download. A trial will also be available. Prices are not yet announced.
Update: The official Songsmith website is now up. So is the trial download link. The price for the full version if US$29.95."

I tried to remove 180 research assistant by myself -- removing anything I was not familiar with (stupid) and I opened in MS DOS to remove some .dll file that could not be removed by Ad-Aware. The durn file just wouldn't die, so I saw this forum read the postings and here is my logfile from "HiJack This".

Can you please help me kill this??

I just bought a Digital Research brand 24x10x40 CDRW drive. It was $80 american at Best Buy with a ten dollar rebate. I had also received a $50 gift certificate so it was actually $30! This has got to be one of my best investments. I have burned 8 cds already without a single problem. I have burned all kinds too, copying of cd-to-cd, mp3 cds, cd audio cds, data cds, iso cds, and without a problem. I was hesitant to buy this brand over Plextor but i figured if the drive didnt' work up to my expectations i'd just return it. I'm sure glad i saved the $80 buying this one over the plextor. :grinthumb Digital research :grinthumb

Cool, glad you like it. I bought my dad a Lite-On 24x10x40 and he loves it. Burns real fast and hasn't messed up a cd once.

Funny story: My sister has my old 2x2x6 and burned 3 identical cds on my dads burner because she though they were finishing too quick and something had to be wrong

well it's been a while since i've built a gaming PC... a few months ago i decided i'd be going with ATi for certain... so i bought an m2r32mvp, 1kw psu, 2x1Gb ocz RAM... and i was slowly piecing it together until i found out Intel and AMD have quad core GPU's out now, which would be ideal for gaming processing. money is an issue... but it's not... basically I'm looking for a full speed dual ePCI Crossfire board that supports quad core processing and DDR3 RAM... does this exist yet?
I know AMD quad core processors for the AM2+ are buggy and you have to disable the L3 cache for stable performance and new CPUs will be out in March, but will they be AM2+ or a new socket altogether?

What should I buy?

not interested in nVidia, although i am curious as to what's the hype of this SLI technology that they probably got when 3dfx was acquired so long ago

build your dream machine and post it here as a suggestion

Does anyone know what new motherboards are going to be released soon?
I'm mainly interested in ASUS and Abit as far as motherboards go because they've been solid in the past, but whatever...

thanks for the support

(and does anyone have an answer as to why a 2Gb stick of DDR3 is slower in mhz than the lower ones?)

Research Associate

Position Description. The Research Associate will work within the Core Technologies Group within the research branch of the company. This group is responsible for:

? Reverse-engineering spyware applications to understand how they work, what information they transmit outside the computer, and how to address anti-removal technologies.
? Building automated research infrastructure. We are building towards a totally virtualized (VMs holding infected machine states), automated testing environment where experiments can be defined in a scripting language and carried out without human guidance. Picking up this effort will be an important early goal.
? Building data acquisition tools and backend data analysis systems. Our product sends data from infected machines to a central database. It is important to refine the collection process to catch everything of interest, and to enhance data analysis on the server side to extract maximal value from the huge amount of data contained therein.
? Extending the engine core. The engine needs to respond to new spyware technologies as they occur.
? Research writing. We are building a library of white papers which describe sophisticated spyware techniques, our responses to them, and our broader technology initiatives. There is also significant opportunity for patent work in this area.

I feel like I am regressing back into the stone age these past few weeks concerning google searches. I'm trying to do some research and I get products or local businesses. I use to click discussions to filter this out but I run into the almighty useless google groups discussions instead of finding new interesting forums that may be out there. Even adding -groups.google.com when searching discussions doesn't remove those results.

Anyone know of a search engine that is for research? I dont want a closed network that doesnt include everyday peoples input or undocumented/verified info which is why I think forums are great. Sites like wikipedia is great for factual information or summeries but not sharing experiences and learning from each other. So I'm looking for a search engine that excludes results of people trying to make a living. Just research. Does one exist?

Edit: Alright getting better but open to suggestions. In case anyone want to know this seems to have removed google discussion results and can remove specific websites. Maybe a firefox addon can automatically filter out websites like facebook forums and google groups. I'd be set.

So two days ago, i clicked on the Permission Research website because it was for an offer. When i signed up, it made me install the Permission Research program or process. However, today when i was on the internet, my internet wouldn't let me access hotmail and only showed a blank space. Thinking that something might have affected this, i decided to go uninstall the Permission Research toolbar or program ( i forgot ). When i clicked uninstall though, nothing popped up, but the program disappeared from the list. Later i went to my program files (x86) folder and found it there. I deleted everything EXCEPT for the prls.dll and the prls64.dll. So i did some research on google and found out it was a virus T.T... i read some threads, but couldn't really find the answer to delete those files. Later i read a thread where a guy renamed those .dll files to .txt. However, i had to play around with the properties settings and ownerships settings of those files for a while. In the end, i went on my administrator account and was able to rename only the prls.dll file to prls.txt file and miraculously managed to delete that. However, i was still unable to rename the prls64.dll file. It kept on saying i needed the administrator's permission to do so, even when i was on my administrator user and changed the ownership setting. Earlier, when i first tried to delete it, it kept saying that those files were running in process, preventing me from being able to delete it. Now i really don't know wha... Read more

I was an ENORMOUS idiot and rashly decided to download and run Combofix before knowing what I was getting myself into. I read a random post on Reddit about how great the program was for removing malware, and without much thought I ran the program. While it was working, I decided to do some research using my phone (since it temporarily disables internet), and soon realized I made a terrible mistake. But, my instincts told me it would be a horrible idea to close the program while it was already mid-operation, so I sat there in suspense, hoping my computer wouldn't explode and eradicate the entire human race. Anyway, I haven't noticed any immediate problems with my computer since running the program, although I have noticed a slight increase in speed.
Here are the logs. I have no idea how to interpret them, so if it deleted something that may cause problems, please let me know how I can fix it:

I am deliberating justification of the expense of upgrading to costware to do internet research and would like some feedback from the experts…

I have been getting by with Search Bar Pro freeware (setup with multiple clustering search engines such as Vivisimo, iboogie, DMOZ, Zerx, InfoNetWare, etc.) for quick, short term analysis. For more extensive long term research, I employ Copernic Agent Basic freeware. I did try out Grokker on a trial basis and although I was very impressed with its time-saving graphical clustering results and would very much like to have the pro version for a complementary search tool, I am not able to justify the $ for it.

My quandary at this point is whether or not there are other research tools that fall into the Copernic category. No, I have not done my homework on this, as I am not even sure what would be good keywords to use in researching it and consequently might well miss something significant, so I am hoping that someone here already has all the answers on this subject and can point me in the right direction… Thanx in advance!

NOTE: for anyone still using Google to do research, I would suggest that you try the search bar pro freeware as outlined above - it’s floating toolbar parks out of the way over the top border of your browser and can be configured for search engines of your choosing and is pretty darned handy for getting a quick cross section of engines that provide differing results. Haven’t seen anything better that is free, but ... Read more

Hello. I am trying to find the right combinations of ram and hard drive size to buy for my business. The computer will be for business with pos software plus software for photo editing. I do one hour film now and will need a new computer that has media slots also.

1. Should I buy lower ram and then upgrade it myself?

2. How good is the HP lightscribe technology....worth the price?

I am considering the Athlon 64 chip and 160 harddrive with 512 expandable ram, any suggestion?
Thank you.

A:New Computer Research Questions

It all depends on the prices and performance you want.
a Athlon64 chip and 160 gb HDD w/ 512 is a good starting point. If you play any games at all I would suggest to go with 1 GB of RAM though. I wouldn't even consider buying a computer w/o 512mb anymore. Always make sue you can upgrade the system to do some looking around and find a computer you like then check the parts. With and Athlon64 chip you want to ensure you get a 939 chipset (as some shady people are selling 754 chipsets that are now outdated and will soon be unable to upgrade w/o telling you). while also looking at the motherboard you want ot ensure that you can fit at least 2 GB RAM (I perfer 4 GB) and that it uses DDR.
As for HP lightscribe technology I've never delt with it so I dont know there.

I bought my new comp 6 months ago w/ an Athlon64(939), 512mb RAM( max is 4GB) and a 200 GB HDD and I love it. the Processor speed may seem slow (compared to the 3GHz speeds we were seeing) but with this 64 bit technology the true speed would actually be double the rated speed when comparing it to a 32 bit processor. (ie: a 1.8 GHz 64 bit performs like a 3.6 GHz 32 bit processor)

I am merely curious of the following companies which would surmount the others: Asus, Lenovo, MSI, or Toshiba? My criterion is currently lenient; its cost can be roughly $1.2k, 500+gb HDD, 5000-7200rpm read/write speed HDD, 200 or 300 nVidia series (or Radeon equivalent; I neglect to stay updated w/ ATI), HDMI compatible, 15-17" screen w/ 16:9/16:10/15:9 aspect ratio, and several hour battery life. The companies mentioned are of my prior knowledge and recommendation. If there are any comparable companies not aforementioned, I'm welcome to research them as well. Appreciate your time.

A:Ambivalent on laptop research

Here is my elucidated criterion:

budget: ~$1-1.5k

size: 15-17"

resolution: 16:9/16:10/15:9 aspect ratios

battery life: 3-5hrs

graphic performance: Op Flashpoint: Dragon Rising... I think that is taxing enough for a benchmark

other features/ tasks: sound hardware near FLAC standards, HDMI compatibility, and ability to run Rhino & Solidworks

HDD capacity: 500+gb

sites: amazon.com, compudirect.com, directron.com, evertek.com, mwave.com, ncixus.com, newegg.com, pcdirect.com, tigerdirect.com, zipzoomfly.com, et cetera

longevity: I would prefer that it remain adequate for my entire 4-5year undergrad endeavor; however, I do prospect that I shall built a high performance desktop in a few years. My emphasis on this laptop's abilities is underscored by versatility and practicality.

brands: preferred = Asus, Dell, Lenovo, MSI, and Toshiba; chosen from personal experience and others' recommendation. disliked = Acer, Gateway, & HP; chosen from reviews holding them lowest in reliability or customer service

Hello and happy new year to all!

I have took over a thesis for my University on "Network and Computer Security".
I would like to guide me on what can i study in the research part of this thesis.
I want to focus on antivirus more, as i am an amateur virus collector and tester of antivirus software.
But what research can i make for education purposes? Something innovated...
May some tests with a security analyzer in the labs of the University?
I am thinking about cloud protection. If i could prove the contribution of cloud technique in detection rate of antivirus suites with experiments and stats. But it is not very easy...

Sure the best would be to contribute in the security of computer. Maybe with improving the detection rate of antivirus software, but it is very difficult for me.

I wait your ideas.

Thanks a lot!

A:Security research for educational purposes??

But what research can i make for education purposes? Something innovated... Research HTML5 malware. It is expected that this type of malware will emerge when HTML5 gets a larger adoption.

In the middle of my research, my HP All-in-One crashed. I was glad to see that HP inlcuded a backup software to ssecure all data before re-installing the OS. I dutifully obeyed, thankfull that the engineers were visionary enough to foresee this dilemma. HP backed up all my documents, but to my consternation, the backup system ignored all the research analysis data from SPSS, Stata, Minitab, and Eviews. No data was backed up. Sure I had older backups but I'd lost all the updates. Even the most recent word document with current writeups was not backed up. This is insane. Tells me system solutions from HP are not reliable. Thanks to Onedrive, it was secured. How can HP be so negligent? Turns out the HP engineers were not so visionary afterall. I love the system, but without a parachute, the best flying machine can be a death trap! I hope they fix this flaw and others I have not encountered yet.

New research from Imperva has revealed that one in 50 employees is believed to be a malicious insider, with over a third (36%) of companies surveyed claiming to have experienced security incidents as a result of malicious staff within the last year.

What?s more the firm was quick to reaffirm Gartner research that suggests, contrary to popular belief, malicious insiders are not always departing staff with a grudge who cause as much disruption as they can before they leave an organization.

?While insider data thefts are often anticipated when employees leave an organization, our research suggests many insiders with bad intentions have no intention of leaving but prefer to turn their access to information into a second income stream,? Gartner?s report Understanding Insider Threats said.

Imperva?s survey, which drew information from 140 real-life incidents and quizzed 250 UK-based IT professionals, unearthed some examples of the type of damage that malicious attacks of this nature can cause with theft or dissemination of confidential data, indemnity theft, loss of productivity and damage to equipment/facilities among the most common.

However, insider threats are not limited to intentional acts of mischief; careless and compromised employees can do similar damage to an organization, even without meaning to cause any harm.

Imperva found that 12% of enterprises were hit by security incidents following acts of carelessness, while 21% of IT professionals agree or strong... Read more
