I use my personal laptop at work and when I went to upload an attachment from my files it gave me the options of other computer's (in the office) documents. It says "shared" and lists computers where I can go in and click. Why can I see this? Can others see my laptop information?

Hello,
I am an admin user and I have an assignment where I need to backup a user's data to a folder in our company's shared network, all from my laptop (only because we don't want to disturb the client as much as possible). The user works in the same office area and is connected to our domain. How can I backup their user profile/data from my laptop without kicking them off their laptop? (we all use win7 professional x64)

I have a question pertaining to file share restoring in windows server 2003 environments. At work we have many windows file servers that share data throughout our network. I am attempting to restore specific files like word docs / excel docs but don't want to restore an entire folder.

The options I have available is to restore to a previous version on the entire file share or drill down into specific folders where I can also run a restore to previous versions. However, within the specific file folder I cannot run a restore to previous versions on a document. The option is available to do so as I can click on the tab in the properties of the document: 'previous versions' but once I click on the tab there is not a listing of dates to restore from.

Any ideas why I cannot see this on specific documents like work docs, or excel docs, but can see previous versions on the folder they are hosted in or the share name?

This is why you invest in a good software backup solution such as Backup Exec. There are other methods which allow for fast file level recovery which are built into SAN and some NAS devices which also have SAN functionality such as snap shots.

Hi guys,

I've got a question regarding the various shared/virtual hosting services that are available online, both paid and free.

Say I register an account and get 1,000 MB of disk space. Does this actually mean that a fixed segment of the server's HDD, in the size of 1,000MB, was allocated to me? Or does it simply mean that I can simply write 1,000 MB of data to the server's HDD, but there isn't really a part of the hard drive that is reserved for my use only?

The reason I ask is that I am wondering about secure data removal from such hosting services. I have some files that I would prefer to keep somewhat private (haven't thought of that before uploading to the ftp!). I'm worried that after removing the data from the server that it will be easily retrievable with any data recovery tools / hex editors etc. I could solve the problem by uploading 1,000MB worth of random data to my account, thereby overwriting whatever previous data I had there before. But this will only work if I had an actual part of the hard drive allocated to me. Hope this makes sense...

They have a quota set up for 1GB and it would be secured based on your account and login credentials. There is always the possiblity of data being retrieved. The data can sit any any location on the server so you would never be able to overwrite it. Why not use an online backup service with enctyption for your important secretive files?

Hello,
I have a laptop with a fresh install of Win7 Pro 64bit dual booting with Ubuntu (also a fresh install). I have a a shared data partition that I would like to send all of my documents,music,videos,etc. to by default. My shared data partition is formatted NTFS. This is my first dual boot attempt and I have never had a separate shared data partition. Is there a way to set Win7 to use the shared data drive to save my data?
I have no data saved so there are no files to transfer yet. I was hoping to set a place before moving data from my old XP desktop via a portable HDD. I will be moving my old data only, no system or OS settings.
Any help is appreciated! So far both OS's seem to be working well in their OS partitions. Below is a little more information if it helps. Thanks again.

Partition Information: Win7 Pro & Shared Data are NTFS format

Another method you can try is to move User folders (Documents, Music, etc) to the data partition as shown in User Folders - Change Default Location.

I have a system with 3 drives disk0, disk1, and disk2.
What I'd ultimately like to do is install Windows 7 on disk0 and install Linux on disk1.
Then I want to have disk2 split into 2 partitions(part0, part1) for programs and other misc install files.
However I don't want disk1 and disk2part1 to be visible while using disk0 and disk2part0 and vice versa.
Is there any way to make this possible?
Sorry if it sounds confusing this was the best way I could think of explaining what I'm trying to do.

However, whenever the external drive is powered down it seems that the shared status of the folders is lost and has to be shared again. This is most tedious...

I have three computers all Win 7 Home Premium and sharing (Homegroup). Side not I also had them sharing with out Homegroup and still same issue. Also This occurs regardless if PC3 is connected via wire or wireless. Additional notes AV was also disable to rule out. That is the only thing running on PC3 and nothing is running background wise on PC1 or PC2.

PC1 can easily view contents of Shared PC2 instantly.

PC2 can easily view contents of Shared PC1 instantly.

PC3 can easily view contents of Shared PC1 & PC2 instantly.

PC1 & PC2 can not view contents of Shared PC3 instantly; it takes approximately 35 seconds to view contents of main shared folder and same for each additional sub-folder. Also if copying a file initially it takes awhile before it starts and then stars off slow around 585KB/s copying over from PC1 or PC2 to PC3 before it jumps up to around 10MB/s+. However if I copy the same file from PC3 to PC1 or PC2 no speed issues what so ever. Speeds actually get well up into 70MB/s.

Any thoughts?

And no amount of free-to-use scanning I have done thus far detected a virus.

Whatever virus this is, it seems to effect the amount of memory I can use slowing down my computer and causing me crashes in Team Fortress 2.

It also disabled my sound driver.

It has yet to do anything more than annoy me from what I can tell, and it may yet be a hacker.

Hello everyone,

I'm using a laptop (with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed) as a DVR and media streamer to all other devices in the house.
My TV recordings are recorded into a temporary folder and when the recording is finished the program moves the files into the My Videos folder.

The My Videos folder is shared so we can watch the recordings from the Xbox downstairs or other Windows 7 devices in the house.
This worked pretty well in the past but for some reason new recordings (or downloads) aren't shared by default anymore. All files have a small lock icon (shared with nobody) and I have to manually share new files within an already shared folder.

This is pretty annoying and takes away the convenience.

I would appreciate any tip to fix this problem to have all files in the shared folder(s) shared by default.

It's easy once you know how, just right click the C:/Video's folder and choose properties, Security tab then Advanced button, then just put a check mark where it says "Replace all Child Object Permission Entries with Inheritable Permissions Entries from this Object, then hit Apply, OK....this will fix the problem you described.

We are a small company.  We are running six windows 8 computers.  Our secretary works from home, the rest of us are in the same office.   


The Admin Computer stores all of our work files within a folder called 'casework' (about 400GB).   The 'casework' folder is shared on the office network.  This 'casework' folder is also synced by Google Drive. 


When our secretary works on her home computer and makes a new file, e.g. letterV2, the new file downloads to our 'casework' folder to the Admin Computer here at the office.  However, the new file cannot been seen on our other computers over the office
network.

The newly created files are not shared to 'everyone' unless I un-share 'casework' from the network and then share 'casework' again. 


The problem seems to be that the new files added by Google Drive are not inheriting the permissions of the 'casework' folder. 


There are no options to change in Google Drive.  Is this a Windows8 problem? Will Windows10 have a fix for this? Are there any work arounds? Does our secretary need to work at the office?

First: THANK YOU to anyone who can help with this.

System: Dell Latitude e6500, Core 2 Duo 8400, 4 Gb Ram, E-dock, 2 Dell 19" LCD, Fedex Dropped it off Friday.

Software: XP SP3, Office 2003, Adobe Acrobat, HP OfficeJet l7780 Drivers [[Had Eset Smart Security installed, but uninstalled it while trying to figure out this problem ]]

Have a Dell Precision M65 also connected to Linksys WRG54 Router.


So, here's the situation.

I want to share desktop and my documents of the e6500 so that they're available to other users connected through the Linksys Network.

To do this I navigate to
C-docs and settings-e6500-desktop
and
C-docs and settings-e6500-My Documents
and right click and set up sharing.

Once I've done this I get on the M65 and Map Network Drive and browse to e6500 and map X for my documents and Y for desktop and everything is good. The sky is blue, the birds are singing, etc. etc. etc.

Then I restart the e6500 and it ""forgets"" that the folders were shared.

So far I've tried spitting, cursing, shouting, crying, begging, and the following:

I've uninstalled Eset to see if it was blocking for security, but nothing changed.

I turned off windows firewall, but it automatically turns back on when i reboot.

I rebooted into safe mode and set the sharing properties, which held the first time booting back into windows, but not after the 2nd restart.

I use both Linux (Ubuntu 10.04, 2.6.33-AMD64) and Windows 7 professional, and sometimes I get a little boggled at the apparent lack of functionality in W7 in the following situation.

I have a network share in the root of my drive that I've called "DropBox" where my boss and I can both put files to be shared via the network. I have a bunch of files in "Downloads" directory that I'd like to be able to share at various times, but would rather not have my downloads directory directly shared as it violates my sense of order. IE, I would much rather have one shared folder from which you can reach all the other content I need to share on the drive, and if I need to un-share something, simply delete the shortcut, and Voila! instant anti-sharing.

In Ubuntu, you can create a symlink within a shared folder that points to a non shared folder which allows network users to access that non-shared folder.

Does this functionality exist in W7?

Okay, so I solved this issue on my own =) TGFG! The answer lies in the MKLink command.

Specifically: mklink /D /J Downloads "C:\Users\Robert\Downloads\"

Works like a charm. All networked machines have access to my non-shared directory through the shared folder, and it looks nice and clean on the viewers end.

I have all 4 PC's in the office using Windows 7 Pro. I have one computer that is designated to house my share folder for scanning documents and attaching them to our management system.  We are finding that multiple problems occur - not at once and at
different times .  Sometimes, the document within the shared folder called "IMAGEBATCH" will not delete.  Sometimes that document deletes, and then re-appears within the IMAGEBATCH folder.  Sometimes the document will not
scan through the network to the IMAGEBATCH folder.  Sometimes we get an error saying we "don't have permission to delete this file".  These circumstances occur on all computers, including the computer that houses the original file IMAGEBATCH. 
Sometimes in the day, each computer that is supposedly looking at the same IMAGEBATCH folder see different files.
Restarting the computer clears the problems, but then start right back up at irregular intervals, sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the middle of the day.
I did find a duplicate file named IMAGEBATCH on the "C" drive of that PC, so I deleted that, but the symptoms are still there.  This is the only shared folder in our entire network.  What can I be missing?  I have checked to make
sure it is a share folder, all the permissions are in place, and that we all can see the folder through the network.  What am I missing?  I am the owner and administrato... Read more

This is a really weird one.
OS is XP SP3 fully up to date.
Primary master 80Gb, 3 partitions - XP, Vista, Data.
Primary slave DVD
Secondary master - removable bay 40Gb 1 partition Fat32 Empty
Sata 1 80Gb 1 partition Fat32 Empty
Promise Ultra PCI Primary removable bay 40Gb NTFS XP from a Laptop

Shared a folder on the Data partition and can see the top level of it from this and other machines on the network, but won't expand.
Tried the whole drive with same result.

So, I tried sharing the Secondary master with the same result.

So I tried sharing the Promise attached one and it worked perfectly, as did the SATA drive.

So I swapped the secondary master and the Promise disks and tried again.

Still the 2ndMaster (was the one on the Promise) seen but will not expand and the Promise attached (was 2nd Master) worked - but obviously they are now different disk contents.

It looks as though the disks attached to the IDE controllers on the Motherboard are blocked in some way.

Removing Firewall and AV software makes no difference.

I'm puzzled.

When I try to rename a folder on the D: partition that used to be a Windows XP recovery partition that has some Pokemon commissions in it, I get this message.
"This folder is shared with other people
If you rename this folder, it will no longer be shared."
 
But the folder is not shared nor has it ever been.
 
What is going on? Why does Windows 7 think that it is shared?

This happens because of the way the Access Control List is queried by Windows Explorer to determine if the folder is shared. Because this folder you tried to rename is a child folder of a parent folder and the two folders have a different security entries, Windows will treat as a shared folder. This causes Explorer to give you the warning that you received. 
 
​Just double check, this must be a shared folder.

Hello, I've been struggling with getting a simple InfoPath 2007 form to work with a test MS Access 2007 database. I feel the best way to explain what I am doing is by giving you an example.

Background of scenario:

Lets say I am a distributor of gas cylinders. I have 100 different gas cylinders that I fill and send to customers. When they are done with the gas, they return the cylinders and I fill them back up. Each cylinder has specific data related to each: manufacturer, serial #, specific cylinder ID, and material of construction (carbon steel, stainless steel, etc). I have this data in my MS Access database, in an individual table called "CYLINDER_DATA". Every time I refill a cylinder, I need to record the date and measure the pressure and temperature (among other things) of the gas in the cylinder. This data (along with the specific "CYLINDER_DATA" at this date of measurement) must be added as a new record in a different table called "CYLINDER_MEASUREMENTS" in the same database.

What I would like to do:

So, I want to create an InfoPath form for operators to use whenever they need to perform measurements on a newly filled cylinder. So, I created an InfoPath form, that starts with a drop-down list box control that is populated with the 100 different cylinder IDs. I have an Android tablet and my PC running Windows 7 Pro. I am using ES File Explorer on Android to see shared folders.

I added some folders to the Music/Picture/Video libraries and shared them in a homegroup. I tried to make the homegroup not need a password and it'll let me access my PC from my tablet and view the root folders but as soon as I tried to access a folder (Music) it'll say permissions aren't available. It will work if I set a password and login with my account.

The second issue is that I'm seeing folders that I don't want to see. I can see a ADMIN$ folder (which is C:\WINDOWS), C$, D$, E$ (the HDDs), IPC$, print$, User. As well as Music, Pictures, Videos from the library. The folders in bold aren't shared so I don't know why I'm seeing them.

The last issue is that a folder (a whole drive actually) isn't being shared. I included the whole E: Drive in the Videos folder but it won't show up in the Video folder from the tablet. However if I include a folder from within the E: Drive then it will show up. Can I not include the root of a drive in a library? I mean it works on the PC.

Homegroups aren't made to work with other systems besides Windows 7 or Windows 8, this is why you can't access the library's.

You should leave the Homegroup from your Windows 7 machine then set up a standard Workgroup instead.

Hi everyone, my software(data acquisition software) works well and saves data in the folder with full control permissions, but when I try to save my data in the restricted folder(only delete permission is denied) it displays an error access denied.
Is there any workaround to disable the delete option and keeping the normal functioning of software intact, as my intention is to allow the users to generate the data and restricting them from deleting the generated data

Hello,

I have two problems:

1.
I have a lot of scanning data, all date and time stamped. All the scans show different status of shipped packages (all shipments have unique ID#, but there are multiple scans on route for all of them to track the packages). I want to find all the packages, for which there was "misdirected" scan, then for all of them, show the scan before. So, the end result would be all the scans that show for each package where it was misdirected (the terminal# of the scan before the misdirect scan).

2.
I want to automate this: run 5 queries every two hours between 8am and 10pm, copy and paste all results into Excel to specified areas (e.g. first query results to A1, second to A5000, third to A10000, etc. or onto different tabs), save as .csv to a specific folder, then send it as attachment to a given e-mail address. Even partial solution can be good.
I only know macros (somewhat), not as much VBA, so I tried that with the TransferSpreadsheet command, but can't get it work.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have an android phone with data and an app called pdanet+. However, my phone isn't compatible with the wifi hotspot feature of the app. Therefore, I decided to use the Bluetooth internet feature of planet+, but it won't show up on my iPhone. Does anyone know what jailbreak tweak I can get to be able to make the connection between the phones?

HELP PLEASE !!!!

I have attached a sample excel document
Basically each morning I receive a .txt file and I export it to excel.
I have a macro which deletes blank rows and therefore tidies the file up somewhat as the size is humungous!
There will be approximately 1000 brach i.d.'s on a daily basis within my file, but I have provided a few in the sample excel doc.
Within my attachment I have highlighted a specific branch and the information that comes with it. I only need part of the information (therefore many rows can be deleted within each branch i.d.

Please review the attached sample and keep in mind the following:

1. I need to keep the branch i.d. at the top of each section
2. I really only require the information that relates to "outstanding" and the few subsequent rows beneath

I am an absolute begineer in MS Access. Will try to put my question as simply n clearly as possible.

I have designed a database to keep history of our company's projects. The 'Master Project History Table' contains fields including 'Project Ref', 'Project Title', 'Project Budget' and 'Project Year'. The users are expected to populate the table through 'Master Project HistoryForm'.

The key field is set as 'Project Ref'.

Some of the projects are combined with each other and to display this info, 'Master Project History Form' also has the fields 'Project Ref-1', 'Project Title-1', 'Project Budget-1' and 'Project Year-1'.

I am loking for a code for the ('On Update' event) that will fetch and display data in 'Project Title-1', 'Project Budget-1' and 'Project Year-1' fields when 'Project Ref-1' is updated. Please note that all this info is coming from the same 'Master Project History Table'.

My IT guys told me to use a code with variable for each field that goes something like this (to update Project Title-1 field):

Dim varX As Variant

Hi all,
Can someone help me with this issue in the Crystal Report

I am using Crystal Report 2011 and Oracle database.
My query is to output some columns in 2 different table(A,B).
After run query, there is 126,978 rows in the result.
In table A, there are 36 different types. The result shows same
in the Oracle Sql Development and Crystal Report (126,978 rows).
it also shows 36 different types in the details section. But when I right click
on that column, there is 23 different types and missing other 13 types.
I tried many ways but without successful (still missing).
Is there any problem with the software? Data missing hence I cannot create correct
dynamic parameter. If it does not show all 36 different type, then my query possibly
wrong, but it can show in the details section, then browse data option should show all 36 types right?
Do you have any idea to solve this?

My external USb Wd mybook box has 1 tb Seagate Sata 3 and i use original Wd disc as W7 installed... in My PC Case as sata II

Today my old problem appears again as Corrupted disc...
I have Get Data Back NTFS (and i used before plenty of times for recovery, loss data or unwanted deletions) but..

This time im stuck.. Becouse the disk i try to recover includes 870 gb (about) used disk space (only audio files) only 50gb (about) empty space... Thats too big for me to recover to other disks.. i don't have enough spaces that my other disks can handle..

I have about 300 gb FREE disk space in several disks or partitions include My thinkpad SL510 Notebook..

wit keeping my lost data in corrupted disk first, can i take them slowly to this 300 gb spaces (i know i can) and after create somehow emty space (deleting those recovered 300 gb + 50 on corrupted disk) and
use that empty space for more recovery. ???? Or smilar solutions.. Becouse DISC PRICES IS HEAVY nowadays and really i'm out of budget with buying some
equipments upgrades..

When i export my inventory from my DB into an excel file, my trailer brands are listed as they are in my DB (of course). But when i bulk upload them with XML feed to trailer inventory sites (HTW.com & HTT.com for our example here). My inventory is listed on their site, but it's not searchable because the brand search is a drop down menu on these sites.

Say i goto HTW.com and do a search for 'Blue Ribbon' trailers none of my blue ribbon trailers show up because all of mine are listed as 'BLUE RIBBON TRAILERS, LTD' and the site is searching for 'Blue Ribbon' and although they are the same trailer brand HTW.com does not see them.

What i'm looking for is maybe a Macro or even formula that once i tell it what site i'm working on, will go through my list and replace all my spellings with the proper ones for that site...

Attached is an XLS file with 3 columns, the first is my list as is from my DB, the other 2 columns are the proper spelling for each corresponding site...

Excel's find and replace feature is a VERY crude fix to this, but since it's so time consuming it's NOT a viable solution.

Any takers??

i have a scSi disk 36.4GB, i lost information from it and tried to recover with other recovery softwares to no avail finally i got winhex & got the professional licence.

i can now be able to see all the information on the 1 whole NTFS partition, but the problem is that i can't be able to recover it.
when ever i open the logical drive i can see all the information and most of the information is stack up in a "free space" which is around 33gb which i can be able to see has all the information that i need.
i have tried to recover the free space but its only copied to the location that i specify and no recoveries are made.
recovering the files by type/ name has bore no fruits.

a freind told me i have to curve out that area and use data extractors to get the information out of that area (freee space).

the information in that drive are sql data bases and zip files. whats the header for sql.

what techniques do i use to curve out that space and be abele to extract the information, for i can even read the information in text format.

which are the data extractors available in the market

kindly assist its quite urgent i get this information out

I am a beginner with tablets and networking. This should be an easy answer.

I have a new tablet. TCL 9020A Android ver 5.0. This is thru At&t network LTE cellular data. My question is, can I use wifi to save on data usage? I have this tablet and Galaxy S5 that both have mobile hotspots available.

Do hotspots use more data? Is there an app available to reduce data usage while on the internet?
Is there any way to get cheaper wifi than paying for tons of data use?

I downloaded the TSG sysinfo utility but my at&t Trek HD would not let me open it. Please advise.

Do you mean they're creating, say, a 3-row by 3-column table and then they want to import everything in that one table into a single field? a single record?

Out of curiosity, what happens if you copy and paste, perhaps with an intermediate step through Excel?

Also, is there a reason why your users cannot work directly in Access?

I need to know where I went wrong and for someone to point me in the right direction for a plausible solution.
Here is my task at hand:
Our database crashed and we lost data. I don't want to loose the data we have already inputted since the crash; however, there is missing data.
I loaded up the last best known back up of our database to recover the lost data.
So far so good.
I have done the following below:
Exported field from one db1_be.mdb file
Imported field to new db1_be.mdb file
Run Query to compare data and fill any missing fields with corresponding data

In essence, I am attempting to replace data from a compare data field query in access 2007.

If I understand correctly, you can actually avoid using copy altogether.

Let's say you have the value 50 in A1 and the formula =A1*2 in A2. The following macro would copy A2 to D2:

Sub Macro1()
Selection.Copy
Range("D2").Select
ActiveSheet.Paste
End Sub

but because the formula uses relative references, the resultant formula (in D2) would be =D1*2.

So what you could do instead -- using a single command only -- is:

Range("D2").Value = Range("A2").Value

Ok, running windows xp home on a peer to peer network. Have done avast antivirus and ad aware scans.

Friday my computer locked up (dang farmville!). I got impatient and did a hard reboot (holding the power button down). Quickbooks also was open.

When it rebooted it did the blue screen Stack rebuild thing.

Now MS Outlook can't open the data files and the quickbooks data file also appears to have been corrupted.

An interesting thing - we have the carbonite internet backup service. Unfortunately, it seems to overwrite and not make any kind of incremental backups, so once it's backed up, that's the file you can restore. I was hoping to try to find a file that had been backed up in the morning, instead of right around the time I had the problem.

Anyway, when I browse to look at the user documents and settings folder on the BACKUP, it shows the application data and local settings folders, as normal. On the computer, those folders are now MISSING. I uploaded a screen shot on our website: http://www.domesticunity.com/tempfiles.html (sadly too big to attach)

Any idea of a simple way to fix this?

I looked online and Microsoft Outlook stores the data in personal.pst - that file also appears to be missing.

Got it figured out.

Was able to restore a recent backup from the Carbonite service of my quickbooks file and only had to redo one day of entries.

Then did some more looking at Outlook threads on the net and first found out how to unhide hidden folders - the Application Data and Local Settings folders were hidden. Then found a thread about a scanpst.exe utility that repairs outlook data files.

Now it seems I'm back up and running!

Thanks for trying to help! Even tho no one had magic answers yet, I can see people cared and looked at my problems.

We are NOT alone! LOL

In preparations for upgrading from Win7 to Win10, I want to make sure I don't lose any essential program data. Most of my data files (word processing, graphics, etc.) are not located on the C-drive where my OS is located, so they aren't the issue. However, as I recall the last time I had to install an OS (long time ago), there were other files that were saved automatically by various programs that were located in the Windows folder, or elsewhere on the C-drive, that were generated by the programs - profiles, saves, etc. - including Application Data and other stuff needed by the programs, and things like font files. Some of them are pretty easy to locate and backup (font files, custom sounds, etc.), but I'm always uncertain about whether or not I have all I need.

Is there some way to backup all of those kinds of files without simply backing up the whole C-drive (including Windows), then if I need them later, going looking for them?

My computer is home built, and the primary drive (C-drive) is a 256 GM SSD. Windows and a few of the programs I use a lot are located there for speed. Other programs are located in a partition on a much larger traditional HD, with data files on another partition of that drive. Backup will be to a 1TB drive on a server on my LAN.

I still think it be easier to use Reflect that you can find in my sig as you can mount that image and find what you need after. Of course this is still an image of the the ssd. you could choose to take only the partition with windows on it though, if you do the whole drive you can come back from an upgrade snafoo.

This is sort of a follow-up to here: Manycam does not broadcast sound , how do I fix this ?

Since it is locked and this issue is different, am making a new thread.

Basically most cam sites have you configure cam feed and microphone feed differently. Even if you have a camera with a built-in microphone, this is sensed as 2 inputs into the computer and you select them separately.

In addition to being able to alter and do tricks with my web camera input, ManyCam is also able to use video files as if they were a web cam feed. This allows, for example, me to play a previously recorded video of myself, or a clip from a cartoon I like, and broadcast it to someone I'm talking to, like say TinyChat or Stickam.

While this happens, I can hear the sound from the file I am playing, because it plays concurrently in ManyCam even as ManyCam's content is sensed and broadcast through a web page or instant messenger.

Basically I would like to broadcast the sound too, through a microphone feed, but I don't know how to do that through software alone. So what I've been doing is putting a microphone next to my speakers and having it record the broadcasted music.

Clearly this reduces quality, and it necessitates both playing audio out loud (not an option if I want to be quiet and use ear phones) and also risks recording myself when I only want people to hear the audio from the file.
