I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

HitmanPro, HitmanPro Alert replacements/alternatives
If I can find decent free replacements, alternatives, I will not be renewing my 3pc/3yr license [expires 10/2017] for HitmanPro, HitmanPro Alert.  Has anyone replaced both HitmanPro products with free and decent alternatives, replacement?  Wifey and I are entering a few lean years, so we are not renewing many of our software licenses, instead we will be going free as much as often as possible.

Hi,

I have a company with 80-100 users and am looking at HitmanPro.Alert specifically for the CryptoGuard feature.

The SurfRight website is as clear as mud on how you license HitmanPro.Alert as a business user and I was hoping that somebody had gone through this process.

As a trial I installed HitmanPro and then HitmanPro.Alert, but it appeared that HitmanPro.Alert has the on-demand scanner HitmanPro built in and I didn't need to install HitmanPro as well.  Or do I?  What benefit if any is there?

On contacting SurfRight about licensing I got this response.

For now you can purchase the Enterprise license and use it with HitmanPro.Alert as well.
When the business version is released, you can upgrade to the official version.

So if I buy HitmanPro for Enterprise the license key works with BOTH HitmanPro for Enterprise and HitmanPro.Alert?  Do I then need to install BOTH HitmanPro for Enterprise and HitmanPro.Alert or just HitmanPro.Alert?

They might be better at dealing with businesses under the Sophos banner later this year but in the meantime has anybody been through this?

A:HitmanPro Enterprise vs HitmanPro.Alert and Licenses

Not sure how it works for business but for personal use the HItman Pro license is good for both. You would have to install Alert as it works in real time, you do not have to install HItman Pro as it is an on demand scanner, basically if you think you've caught something you can download it to scan, if it finds something then  you would have to use the license to activate it to remove the threat. Of course you could install both if you like, just remember that Hitman Pro only scans when you want it to and provides no real time protection. My comments are in regards to the personal versions and I do not know if the business applications are different but I doubt it.

HitmanPro.Alert is a free tool that checks the browser integrity and alerts users when secure online banking and shopping is no longer guaranteed.
It is a known fact that the internet is a hotbed of online crime. When you bank and shop online or remotely connect to your office, you (and the companies you do business with) become a prime target for online fraud.

Background

When you connect to a e-commerce site, such as a bank or bookseller, your web browser encrypts the communication so it can securely exchange transactions between your computer and the website. However, the transaction data exists in plain readable format in your web browser. This plain information can be compromised and manipulated by financial malware to e.g. steal your account and banking credentials or change your transaction details, just before it is encrypted and securely sent to your bank.

These banking Trojans are very difficult to detect, even with up-to-date antivirus software. This is because the attackers use custom-engineered binary obfuscation (polymorphism), cloaking and other armoring techniques to evade detection the first few days. To maximize the effectiveness of their campaign they test each specially crafted malware sample against antivirus products.

Many renowned security companies acknowledge the low detection rate of banking Trojans. During the first 24 hours the average detection rate of new variants of financial malware, like Zeus, SpyEye and Sinowal, is very low. But cybercri... Read more

Bitdefender

All scans return clean, I restart the computer and all is fine. Note that sometime if I do not restart the computer the warning still appears, funny though not all of the time.

In my computer I run Windows 7.

Read Press Release (with Screenshots): SurfRight releases free security software to prevent identity theft, fraud and malware

About (with Download): HitmanPro.Alert 2

HitmanPro.Alert 2 alerts users when online banking and shopping is unsafe and tricks sandbox-aware malware to disable itself

Hengelo, The Netherlands, July 3, 2013 ? SurfRight, a developer of tools that give users more control over their pc security, today released version 2 of HitmanPro.Alert, a free utility that checks browser integrity and helps to prevent malware infections. HitmanPro.Alert informs users when it is not safe to enter sensitive information because data exchanged between their browser and their online bank, shopping site and webmail is being intercepted by malware in their browser. Despite antivirus software and the lock icon in the browser, malware like banking Trojans can still steal your information or change your transaction details before they are encrypted and sent to the bank. HitmanPro.Alert immediately detects these Man-in-the-Browser attacks and informs users when critical system functions are diverted to untrusted programs.Click to expand...

I have previously reviewed hereabouts the free HitmanPro.Alert (HMPA) 2.0, and must say that after almost 2 years it has given me no grief on my Win 7 system. No slowdowns, no conflicts. Just to recap, it is a free tool that checks the browser integrity and alerts users when secure online banking and shopping is no longer guaranteed. At that time (2013), there were reports of possible conflicts with MBAE, and/or EMET, resulting in various problems, but as I don't use those programs, I did not see these glitches. Suffice it to say that I generally use security programs until they cause me grief - and version 2.0 never did.
It was with some trepidation that I decided to try out version 3.x. I was persuaded to do so because of a report from MRG Effitas (March, 2015) where HMPA 3.x compared favorably to both EMET and MBAE in preventing drive-by exploits and zero-day exploits. I would note that 1) these tests were sponsored by SurfRight, the vendor of HMPA 3, and2) the paid version of HMPA only was evaluated.www.mrg-effitas.com/.../MRG_Effitas_Real_world_exploit_prevention_test.pdf
That said, HMPA 3 is still available in a free version. It purports to offer protection that exceeds HMPA 2.  A comparison list between v2 and v3 can be seen here (including what is excluded in the free v3): www.wilderssecurity.com/.../hmpa-version-comparison-png.246705

A:HitmanPro.Alert 3.x Review

Follow-up:
1) I was mistaken that HMP.A 3 had affected my Firefox. Just before trying HMP.A 3 I had installed the latest version of FF (38.0.1) so was not familiar with its latest GUI. The latest version of FF is working well.
2) I am still unable to open FF if I enable the "Enforce DEP" in the FF Mitigation module of HMPA. If I uncheck that option, FF works as expected. Attempts to disable all my FF extensions, by placing it inh a FF "safe mode", were unsuccessful in solving my problem. Which rules out that my FF extensions were conflicting with HMP.A 3.
3) I reported this problem over in Wilders Security forum. Only one member responded, who was not able to help me. My complaint is now lost in that massive thread for all problems related to HMPA. This is not acceptable to me for a commercial product. When free security products such as MBAM and various AVs offer dedicated user-to-user security forums for trouble-shooting problems, SurfRight has no excuse to limit itself to only threads at Wilders, particularly for a paid product. I can certainly not recommend any of the SurfRight paid products based on my experience to date.
4) OK, all that said. HMPA 3 so far works well with "Enforce DEP" disabled for FF. I will probably keep it until the free trial expires (and the module with "Enforce DEP" along with it).  I should still be left with a free version that is better than the version 2 I had.  We shall see.

HitmanPro.Alert version 3 introduces Exploit Mitigations, of which its hardware-assisted Control-Flow Integrity (CFI) technology is perhaps its most striking feature.CFI is a technique to prevent flow of control not intended by the original application, without requiring the source code or debug symbols of the protected application. With CFI, HitmanPro.Alert 3 effectively stops attackers that hijack control-flow to combine short pieces of benign code, already present in a system, for a malicious purpose; a so-called return-oriented programming (ROP) attack. This capability is achieved by programming and leveraging a hardware feature in modern Intel® Core? processors to track code execution and assist in the detection of attacks in real-time ? an industry-first method not found in any other security product.

Besides a performance advantage, employing hardware traced records has a security benefit over software stack-based approaches. Stack-based solutions, like Microsoft EMET, rely on stack data, which is (especially in case of a ROP attack) in control of the attacker.

Cybercriminals and hackers are becoming increasingly more proficient in finding and attacking previously unknown vulnerabilities to bypass antivirus software as well as memory protections (DEP+ASLR) to silently infiltrate computers. Well known cases that led to the discovery of zero-day attacks, like Operation SnowMan[1], GreedyWonk[2] and Clandestine Fox[3] (all uncovered by security firm FireEye), show ... Read more

Today we release a fresh new version: Alert 3.1.

Major new feature is that Alert can now install Anti-Ransomware only. A lot of customers asked us for this feature and now it is here! This new crypto-ransomware protection only mode also supports Windows Server 2008 R2 (or newer) environments.

Other notable new feature is the support for Windows apps (Metro applications) like Microsoft Edge. The support for Windows apps also required us to rework the Colored Window Border feature so this also received an overhaul.

Changelog (compared to build 196)

Added Exploit Mitigation support for Windows apps (previously called Metro applications).
Added Anti-Ransomware install mode. This mode also supports Windows Server 2008 R2 (or newer) environments.

HitmanPro Alert offers Keystroke Encryption for web browsers. However, during my tests with Zemana Simulator and SpyShelter test tools, all keystrokes were captured and clearly displayed as being non-encrypted. This included typed text and links shared to the clipboard.

Does this mean only the Username and Password fields of websites are protected or the whole session?

Below are details from the Surfright website:

Keystroke Encryption
Protects credentials against keyloggers in the browser
More about HitmanPro Alert: http://www.surfright.nl/en/alert

If by chance my testing procedure was incorrect, if someone is willing to test the keystroke encryption against the test tools or their own, let me know if you produce the same results. Used with Google Chrome 32-bit.

A:Keystroke Encryption in HitmanPro Alert?

It can crypt my keystrokes in Comodo Dragon, I tested with SpyShelter tool.
HMPA can crypt all keystrokes in your browser not only username and password fields.
I can say this Zemana Antilogger crypts them better and more complex.

I write "aaa" in my browser and in the test tool "euw", HMPA did its job good.
While using Zemana Free Antilogger, the test tool only shows "yyy" for your every stroke, it has more powerful encryption method than HMPA.
This is all I can say about it. Mine works flawlessly
While I am writing this post, it encrypted all. This is all you can see

I recently installed HitmanPro.Alert as after reading about it it seemed like an excellent addition to my computer security rather than just having an anti-virus. However, I am wondering what it actually does at this point, as with it installed I tried downloading and installing a program and the program installed without issue. I tried downloading and extracting zip files; again nothing stopped me. Downloaded programs that will alter the registry and again no issues with executing these programs.

I have Hitman installed with the maximum protection setting. Have I done something wrong in the installation process? To me it just seems odd with what I have read about the program that it allows all of these actions without even a single warning. Or is it checking everything in the background and since it found no issue with these programs I downloaded it allowed them to run?

A:Installed HitmanPro.Alert; doesn't seem to do anything.

what you expect it to do? it is not an anti-exe or a HIPS or a Behavior Blocker alerting about softs installations or modifications... if you thought about that, you were misinformed.

HMPA is an anti-exploit, means you have to encounter an exploit, suspicious dll injection or similar.

After Windows 10's anniversary update, the OS will give a MEMORY_MANAGEMENT bsod after every boot. Specifically, it would appear before the login screen loads.

I uninstalled this program in safe mode, and everything was fine again.

I feel like nobody else has this problem. I have emailed Surfright support, and they haven't responded in many days. Of course, experts need to examine the memory dump files to find the root cause, but I just want to know how others are doing with this software.

It's unfortunate that I have 470+ days left in my subscription, yet I can't even use it (don't even mention hmp's license management policies).

Download beta v3.5.1.550, i have it and even the stable version worked fine on AU.

After a (too long) private beta period we now release HitmanPro.Alert version 3.5. I want to take to opportunity to thank everybody who participated in the private beta. Thank you!
If you are still running a 3.5 beta you are encouraged to upgrade to this release.

CryptoGuard 4th generation
Major new feature is the addition of the 4th generation of CryptoGuard (est. 2013). It is now capable of detecting "imperfect" crypto-ransomware families. These types of crypto-ransomware simply create encrypted copies of your files and then delete the originals. If you use an undelete tool like Recuva you can get much of your data back. Hence why we call these families imperfect. Getting hit by these types is still highly annoying so we added support for protecting against these families.

CryptoGuard v4 also improves the rollback mechanism that restores encrypted files to their original state. And we have vastly improved the cleanup of the temp files in the CryptoGuard rollback folder.

Since 2013, CryptoGuard not only protects against locally running crypto-ransomware, but also provides protection against infected endpoints trying to encrypt your locally shared data from remote.

WipeGuard
With the advent of Master Boot Record based ransomware (Petya and Mischa), we have added a new mitigation called WipeGuard (currently part of CryptoGuard). This mitigation protects your critical disk sectors from being overwritten. This is the first release of WipeGuard, future releases will... Read more

Hello,

What happens after the HirmanPro.Alert trial ends, I don't see any changes ?
I don't know if that counts but I am using it on Windows 10 64 bit.

A:HitmanPro.Alert trial question

After the HitmanPro.Alert trial expires, the program will revert to the Free version. Some features may become unavailable, unless you license it.

If already have a HitmanPro (scanner) license, it will activate Premium features in Alert. See (Is HitmanPro.Alert free for Hitmanpro licenced users?)

Since the four Community Technical Previews of HitmanPro.Alert 3 last year, our customers and the security community showed strong interest. Enhanced with the valuable feedback that we received, we are excited to announce the general availability (GA) of HitmanPro.Alert 3 ? build 180.

HitmanPro.Alert version 3 introduces Exploit Mitigations, of which its hardware-assisted Control-Flow Integrity (CFI) technology is perhaps its most striking feature. CFI is a technique to prevent flow of control not intended by the original application, without requiring the source code or debug symbols of the protected application. With CFI, HitmanPro.Alert 3 effectively stops attackers that hijack control-flow to combine short pieces of benign code, already present in a system, for a malicious purpose; a so-called return-oriented programming (ROP) attack. This capability is achieved by programming and leveraging a hardware feature in modern Intel® processors to track code execution and assist in the detection of attacks in real-time ? an industry-first method not found in any other security product.

Besides a performance advantage, employing hardware traced records has a security benefit over software stack-based approaches. Stack-based solutions, like Microsoft EMET, rely on stack data, which is (especially in case of a ROP attack) in control of the attacker, who in turn can affect or control the defender as well.

I have had SpyShelter Premium since the start of July. A couple of days ago I decided to re-install Hitman Pro.Alert full edition. (It had been thrown off my computer a few months ago when ESET got upset over an update.) After I brought back HMPA, SpyShelter began behaving perversely. It blocked the uploading via my context menu of the HitmanPro.exe setup file to the online VirusTotal. It blocked, strangely enough, my use of the bug report option on the SpyShelter GUI. It blocked my opening of my AmazonSmile bookmark on my Maxthon browser. It did all of these things with a notification saying "AntiNetworkSpy: SpyShelter blocks setting hooks for process Maxthon.exe(PID=????)"

SpyShelter support told me:

You need to go to Settings > Security > List of processes which are not monitored by AntiNetwork Spy Module and include HMPA in the list.Click to expand...

That didn't help, to my surprise. I told them:

Thank you for your help. I did as you said, putting hmpalert.exe in List of processes which are not monitored by AntiNetwork Spy Module. I find that the same behavior by SpySyhelter continues. It did all three of the things I mentioned above, and in addition it blocked my effort to open this page by clicking on the link in the email. In each case I got the notification mentioning Maxthon hooks. (I was able to open this page by pasting the link in the address bar.) So, although it seems inappropriate, should I add Maxthon browser to t... Read more

With version 3 we deliver comprehensive exploit protections and anti-espionage technologies to both home users and IT professionals. The software works in real-time and does not rely on signatures or the cloud.

NOTE: HitmanPro.Alert 3 CTP1 is pre-release software and should not be used in production environments.

Hardware-Assisted Control-Flow Integrity (CFI)
Alert version 3 introduces hardware-assisted control-flow integrity, which leverages special Intel CPU hardware registers to monitor how software executes on the CPU. This allows Alert 3 to detect sophisticated return-oriented programming (ROP) attacks. Read chapter 2.5 of the Exploit Test Tool manual (provided in the download below) for supported Intel CPUs.

New Features (compared to version 2)

Exploit Mitigation
Active Vaccination
Keystroke Encryption
Webcam Notifier
Hollow Process blocker
Integrates with HitmanPro

Exploit Test Tool
To verify the correct working of HitmanPro.Alert we have developed an Exploit Test Tool. This safe and easy-to-use tool can perform over a dozen exploit techniques that attackers currently use to compromise computers from remote. The Exploit Test Tool can also act like a keylogger and access the webcam. A manual is provided in the download below.

License
Exploit Mitigation requires a valid HitmanPro license. A trial license is available from within the application. The regular HitmanPro paid license will work as well and is available from our online shop.

A:HitmanPro.Alert 3 Community Technology Preview 1 is now available!

Not free, not lifetime, meh.

30 minutes after install:

Works well on ie, chrome and ff, but doesn't work in opera (opera appears in safe browsing), maxthon and cyberfox.

Slow Down my browser opera (yes doesn't detect it but slow down it), like hell. Slow all functions, open new TAB, browsing etc etc).(Emet compatibility?)

Keystroke encryption fail vs Zemana test (like 360TS ¬¬).

As far as I know, for now there is no exclusion list for Risk Reduction features, only Exploit mitigation. You just have to temporarily disable CryptoGuard when doing those things, and then enable it after you're done.
