I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My laptop screen started flickering the other day. A reboot solved the issue. Then it started happening more and more. Now I've rebooted a few times and I can't get past it. See the attached video. I don't believe it's the graphics card - if I plug in an external monitor everything is ok. Changing screen settings such as resolution also, doesn't help the issue and the issue appears even on the bios screen. I'll contact support about this, but they never have any interest in helping solve a problem remotely. They always jump to sending me a box and telling me it'll take 2 weeks to fix... which is a major problem since I work remotely and have no other PC. Also any devices I had connected to Thunderbolt ports were turning on and off. I'm not sure if the issue was related.

I just purchased this laptop, I like it alot.   Using the HDMI port and the mini-display port, can I have 3 displays?   The internal touch screen, and then also the moniitor on the HDMI port AND a different monitor on the mini-display port.   That would be 3 displays. I'm just getting into Microsoft Flight Simulator and it will support 3 videos and I want to have all 3 running to get the most from the application. I want to be sure that it isn't either/or on the HDMI and Mini-Display Port, but that I can use both/and. Thanks in advance. Paul

Lenovo system update offered me today to install a critical update - ThinkPad BIOS UPDATE US - 8.1/10 [64], version 1.98.1.66. After the installation and windows restart, I have noticed that the system performance has gone down drastically. Process list inspection showed 'System interrupts' using 25% of the CPU, which basicaly means that a single thread is utilizing 100% of 1 logical processor. I've inspected the system log, and 1 error stood out: 'BcmNfcIc driver has failed initializing NFC device.' System log was flooded with these messages. First event was logged after the windows was restarted (after the bios update). I ran the Lenovo System update and installed the offered Broadcom NFC Driver [64] 1.3.0.190. It didn't help to resolve the issue with the NFC device initialization and consenquently CPU usage. I went to the device manager, and disabled 'NFC SMBus Device' under the system devices. CPU usage went down to 0%. Now the question is, did my NFC device actually fail, or the new BIOS update introduced this issue?

Hi therePlanning to order a 2nd generation X1 Yoga (20JE). According to the OCM (March edition, which, however, does not mention 20JE, but explicitly states X1 Yoga 2nd gen) among others, both the USB 3.0 Pro Dock (40A70045) and the Onelink+ dock (40A40090) would be compatibel with the Yoga, not howeber the USB-C dock (40A90090) or the Thunderbolt 3 Dock (40AC0135). I'd appreciate this in principle, as I still have the Onelink+-Dock of the 1st generation X1 Yoga. But I cannot entirely believe it, as the pictures I found of the 2nd generation X1 yoga do not show any Onelink+-Connector, but it has USB.C/Thunderbolt 3 connectors according to the specs. So what is true? Thanks! (Cross posted from German language question @ https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Kaufberatung/X1-Yoga-2nd-Gen-20JE-Dock-Kompatibilit%C3%A4t/td-p/3595825)

Moreover, when I connect an external display to the dock (via DP), the external display is not recognized, nor in the display settings nor can I manage to get a singal to the external monitor. I have installed the latest BIOS for the notebook (v. 1.10), latest Thunderbolt firmware and Thunderbolt drivers. I have rebooted serveral times, uninstalled, re-installed, disconnected etc.... to no avail. Anyone experiencing the same? Any solutions? Regards George

So my co-worked managed to knock my laptop off my desk and it was damaged, ugh... It still functions, but has the following issues:- There's a noticable blemish on the LCD screen and it will need to be replaced- The case is cracked on the right side around a USB port- The case is cracked on the left side around the power connector, and the connector itself is bent Looks like the screen alone runs $400 on Lenovo parts site, and I don't even see case parts listed. I'd prefer to replace the parts myself, but would also be willing to go to a reapair center if I had to. I'm leaning towards replacement instead of repair, but was wondering what others more experienced in laptop repairs thought. Thanks.

A:Repair or Replace? Yoga 14 Type 20FY ThinkPad

I fix machines, so my first impression is always to fix, but you have at least 3 damaged parts (jack, panel and case).  If the jack is damaged, there may be an issue with nearby parts.  I cannot be  sure without seeing it, but my guess is that you would be better off selling the broken one on eBay and buying a different one.

Hi,I received my new ThinkPad X1 Yoga 20FQ one month ago. I must insert a paperclip into the reset hole and restart to be able to get the keyboard working and be able to enter the password.  I'm wondering if anyone else have any similar issue and if so, if there is a simple way to fix it? or if I should return the X1 Yoga?  Thanks for your help,Steven

The screen of my Yoga 14 ThinkPad Type 20FY touchscreen has cracked. I have a few questions on how to replace the screen.

Serial Number: XXXXXXXX                               Mod edit:  Serial number removed per forum rules
Machine Type Model: 20FY0002US

1. Can I replace the touchscreen with a non-touch screen? It looks like touchscreens are delicate and expensive. I didn't want a touchscreen but Best Buy did not have that in their store.
2. What is the part number for the screen? I need it to purchase online. Online forums suggest opening the screen to see the part number. Is there a way to see part number using model, and machine type (posted above)? I need part number of non-touch screen, if that will work with the laptop.
3. What is the cheapest and reliable place to buy a replacement screen? I plan to replace it myself.

I would be appreciative of your help.

I am a very frustrated and angry customer at the moment as i keep running into Road Block and unacceptable answers.  This issue is enough to cause me to never buy another Lenovo laptop or any laptop at Best Buy!I bought my computer in July and in September i noticed a key had popped off-  the "< ," key next to the M key.  I have used the key board only when i was setting up-  now at my office and at customers i set it in downward dog mode ;-) and use a blue tooth key board.    So it is not from use that it broke.   I took the laptop into BEST BUY and was told that the key was missing a metal part on the back so they could not fix it onsite-  i would have to send it in and be without my laptop for a week to 10 days - unacceptable -  this was a month or more ago. I searched on the LENOVO website and could not find a way to purchase a single or the entire set of Keys!  I am self employed as a software consultant.   My life is pretty busy and i finally decided today to bite the bullet and ask for a call from Lenovo support.  Again i am told the only way to fix this is to send my laptop in for a repair.  I asked to just be able to buy a KEY - i am told that well they do not sell individual keys - they would replace the entire keyboard!  So sell me the keyboard and or send me one an i will take into best buy to have them replace it while i wait.  They cannot do that.   I live... Hi everyone. Hopefully I can get some assistance on this particular problem. I'm looking at a faulty Yoga 2 11 laptop (i3 processor) that belongs to a friend. He told me it no longer switches on anymore. It's about 18 months old (or thereabouts). The laptop powers on and the Lenovo screen appears for about two to three seconds and then it powers off immediately with a "click". My first thoughts were dust/overheating. Well I took the back panel off and as expected the fan but mainly the vents were solid with fluff and dust (couldn't see through them). I've since found out he likes to use the laptop on the carpet and in bed so not a great surprise! The fan itself wasn't too bad, I brushed it clean and also gently cleaned it with some alcohol solution. I have ordered a replacement but it seems very tough to get hold of one in the UK so I have ordered one from China but obviously that will take a good few weeks. However the blades of the fan were not very dirty so that may not be the issue. The fan turns freely and with no resistance. Cleaned the rest of the PC, as there was heavy fluff and dust towards the top of the motherboard. The SD card inserts and USB sockets were solid with fibre as well. Anyway, temporarily placed the back panel on again but unfortunately no luck; the issue is still there. It doesn't even get to the BIOS screen. I did disconnect the battery and tried only using the power supply, no difference.&n... Read more

I have the full S/N and MTM info from the sticker on the back but I can't seem to find any BIOS software from Lenovo that I can use to create a bootable CD or USB to make the changes as suggested with other models. does anyone know how I might be able to update the BIOS with the correct S/N and MTM info so that the Lenovo tools will recognize the device and allow me to make updates? thanks in advance!

I have a TP S1 Yoga (Model 20CDCTo1WW) running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. I utilize it mostly at work and have it hooked up to a Thinkpad Onlink Pro Dock.  I use the dock to run two external monitors, for connecting to our network (through an ethernet cable) and utilize the USB ports on the front/back to hook up a wireless keyboard/mouse, for powering my phone and for thumbdrives.  I had the problem of the Onelink having port "flapping" issues (network would disconnect and connect at random times) as discussed elsewhere in these forums.  The solution that I found was to update the bios.

I proceeded to attempt to update the bios (which I had not done since I purchased it in January 2014).  The current bios version is: GQET32WW (1.12), 1/22/2014.  I downloaded the TP Yoga bios update utility for Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Version 1.18.  I read the README and then ran the utility.  It installed the utility software to a location on the local drive ("c:" ) and then proceeded.  I went through the setup screens, selecting the "Update ThinkPad BIOS" clicking through a few more text boxes (with the warning about not powering off, keeping it plugged in, etc) until it asked to reboot. I clicked OK to reboot, which it did.  This is the next thinkg I seen on the screen:

Hi guys, I have no idea what's happening with my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 (it's about 3.5 years old, its warranty just expired). Every time I reboot, I get this weird message saying "Configuration changed, please reboot the machine...". I then proceed to reboot the machine and everything works but the bios options are always resetted! This makes the laptop extremely unusable for me as I always swap the fn/ctrl keys so that I don't have to learn a new keyboard every time I switch computers. If I go back and change the option, it works fine, but the next reboot it does the same message again and I have to reconfigure the bios at EVERY boot. I'm lucky this option is the only one I changed, otherwise someone that would have changed the boot order/graphics settings/passwords etc. would be in a much worst situation than me...At first this seemed like a typical bios battery being out of juice so that the config can't stay saved, but I've now changed the bios battery twice with new ones and this doesn't change anything... It's been working perfectly for 3 years but now it just suddenly stopped working for that reason (by not working I mean the bios that keeps resetting itself, I can still boot to my main OS just fine after). If anybody has any suggestion that would be greatly appreciated. I thought about flashing the bios but afaik it's the latest one, and anyway as I'm only running GNU/Linux I can't run the .exe tool to update it (off-topic but please lenovo have another way to u... Hi and thanks for reading. After running updates through Lenovo Companion, I tried to run a game, and noticed that my performance was terrible. It was than that I noticed that my fans weren't working anymore, and the GPU was throtteling.I've tried a lot of different things. The fans just never spin up, not even on cold boot like they used to.I've looked around the forums for solutions (this was similar, amongst others), and tried running Lenovo Fan Test, which just gives me "Fan Unavailable". Other monitoring applications tell me there simply is no fan available, or the thing is running at 0 rpm, which is accurate.I read that fan control is part of the BIOS, so I checked, and I have the lastest version installed (1.14/1.24 as mentioned). The people from the Thinkpad yoga 12 thread suggested downgrading the bios. I tried different version but that just gives me the ol' "Secure Flash Authentication Failed" message. I have found the knowledge base articles telling me to turn off "Secure RollBack Prevention" in the BIOS. I went and had a look, and it was already disabled. I toggled it a couple of times, tried setup defaults, and "Secure Rollback Prevention" Enabled and Disabled to make sure, but everything I tried simply gave the same result: When I try to do a rollback, secure flash authentication fails. Period. The device doesn't have a CD drive, and I've tried running the flash tool from the ISO on a USB stick, which did run, but told me the firmware wasn't suitable for my device... Read more

Hi! We have a number of ThinkPad Yoga 11e, most of them are about 1.5 years old and we're currently updating their Windows 10 image and BIOS. Imaging process completes fine, but updating the BIOS has caused us a lot of issues. When updating BIOS from within Windows with the latest BIOS Update Utility (1.26) from Lenovo's website the laptops crash with a blue screen of death (BSOD). We then tried all previous BIOS versions (from 1.10 and up), but they all crashed too. The current BIOS version on the laptops is 1.10, but even that failed. We initially ran the installer from our network drive with the installer file renamed for easier identification. We have since tried renaming the installer file back to the original name and running it locally. Have also tried running it only with wireless enabled, running only with Ethernet enabled. At one point we thought there might have been another installation process running in the background (drivers, Windows Update), so made sure that had all completed. The BIOS upgrade still crashed the laptop. We have been unable to pinpoint any of the above scenarios to be the culprit, as now some of them work randomly. Two machines side by side, one will work and the other one will fail. We're pulling our hair out with this one. Has anyone else had this experience and have you found what steps need to be taken to successfully complete the BIOS upgrade every time?

Today no change and i can power off the system with the button but can't force it to boot. The laptop had been working perfectly before this misguided bios update. The system is out of warranty. Is there any possibility of recovering the old bios or any other recovery method?
