Dell Inspiron 14 5459 power button needs 3 seconds long press to power up?

Q: Dell Inspiron 14 5459 power button needs 3 seconds long press to power up?

recently bought a Dell Inspiron 14 5459 on June 12, 2016 and first thing I noticed is that to turn on the laptop I need to press and hold down the power button at least for 3 seconds in order for the laptop to boot up, this seems strange, I brought up this issue at the Dell Store where I bought the laptop and the sales people there told me that they noticed this in most Inspiron models. Is this normal?

Preferred Solution: Dell Inspiron 14 5459 power button needs 3 seconds long press to power up?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there a way to change how the power button works? In order to turn on my laptop, I have to long-press the power button for about 2 seconds instead of just a quick press like normal. It's really annoying.
The laptop I'm using is a Latitude 7275, but I also have several Latitude 5175 laptops at work that do the exact same thing.

What  will happen if I remove the battery of a laptop and press the power button for 30 seconds??
Can anyone explain me in detail please!

A:What will happen if I remove the battery of a laptop and press the power button for 30 seconds??

It is a system reset - it resets the firmware to factory defaults.  If something is stored in CMOS that's preventing a boot, it will clear that -- it's a last ditch effort to confirm the fault lies elsewhere (usually with the mainboard).

Hello everyone,
I bought my laptop 2 years ago and about exactly 10 days after the warranty had ended it started to shut down automatically within 3 to 5 seconds after being turned on.
It keeps shutting down both in the boot menu and in BIOS settings so it can't be a software related issue.
I have already tried the following:
Remove CMOS battery to reset BIOS
Remove one component after another trying to turn it on each time
I've stripped it down to the bare minimum leaving only the motherboard and power button and it still keeps shutting down. (I even removed the screen and used my sharp ears to detect when it turned off. The motherboard gives off this quiet sound even without a fan).
I've taken it to two separate computer specialists and the laptop passed all the multimeter tests and what not. According to them it is not overheating and the voltage is OK throughout the entire board.
In the end the computer mechanics said that they couldn't help me and that they have never seen something as crazy as this. It SHOULD be working!
The strangest thing about this laptop is the fact that if you don't touch it for a week or so, it MAY (or may not) turn on and STAY on for a good couple of hours until dying again.
For example after I got it back again from the second mechanic, I tried turning it on and it stayed on for 1 minute. After that it stayed on for 3 minutes. Then it stayed on for more than 2 hours.
Now I have tried turning it on for at least a 100... Read more

If it's a continuous single beep, it means the mainboard is bad.  If it's some other pattern such as four beeps - pause - four, etc., post the sequence and someone can help you interpret the error.

Hi, so I have had a powering issue with my previous power supply which was the Corsair CX600W so i purchased a newer power supply - the EVGA SuperNova G2 550W. I unhooked my old psu, hooked up my new one and the PC turned on and I turned it back off from the power button on the case. I also hava a boot drive problem so I unplugged the sata cables from my SSD and wanted to try to turn on the PC with only my HDD. I did this with the PSU switched off and the power cord unplugged. When I tried turning the PC on again the PSU made a clicking noise and nothing turns on. The motherboard Led's are lit up so it is definitely getting power but when I go to turn the computer on it just makes a quick clicking noise and nothing turns on. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

A:Power Supply makes clicking noise when I press power button

You may just need to drain the power off from the power supply and try again. Unplug the power to the power supply, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and try to turn on the computer again. If that doesn't put the old power supply back in and see if the PC works, or was the old one dead? If the PC works with the old one and not the new one then you may have gotten a faulty power supply.

A:Dell Inspiron power on button LED not working?

No - it's not software controlled.  Either the LED failed, or the cable that connects it to the mainboard became detached.  What system model is it (I.e., Inspiron N5110, 5535, etc.)?

Here's the story. I got home yesterday and tried to turn on my laptop, and it wasn't turning on/booting fast enough. I had already had a stressful day, so there was a major lack of patience on my part. So i kept on pressing the power button and holding it down etc, and I pressed it very hard before eventually quitting. Then i take a break, I try the power button again but this time there is no click/compression. I'm not sure if it's jammed or anything but it won't click/compress (almost like there is a spring missing). So I sit there for a while starring at the screen and all of a sudden it turns on (blue screen says something about repair; was too fast for me to read).
I take the thing apart following instructions online to try and un-jam the power button, maybe it's stuck in a constant hold position, I'm now at the final step and not sure what is happening because there is compression but no spring back when against the power button pcb. I'm not sure what is wrong I need any help at all.
Do you think I broke the capacitor in the power button pcb or maybe I exceeded the limit of proportionality in the surrounding plastic and negatively alter the elastic modulus from applied stress/strain?
Here are the tutorial that i followed online:

Dell Inspiron 14 5000 Power Button Failures
Judging from the number of complaints posted on the internet and the availability of replacement power button circuit boards from many sources including Amazon, the problems with the failure of this button seems to be a common occurrence. This post is intended to help those who may be experiencing this problem.
The root of the problem is the breaking of the small tip, about the size of a 72pt period, on the actual button. Figure 1 shows the power button without the tip and Figure 2 shows the replacement circuit board with the tip intact.

Figure 1 Showing button without tip

Figure 2 Showing button with tip
Even though the tip is small the problem is that without the tip extending into the recess in the bottom of the rubberized button activator, see Figure 3, the button cannot be pressed and the button instead bottoms out on the ridge.

My computer's power button is solid orange and I don't know what it is. The computer is running perfectly fine but the power button light is worrying me. It is a desktop and it is not on standby. Does anyone know what it could mean?

A:My Dell Inspiron One 2320 Has a problem with its power button.

Hi Emily_4100,
Welcome to the community,
The solid Orange/Amber light on the power button indicates the system board cannot start initialization, this state usually comes if the system is not able to post. The normal state is solid white, the blinking Orange/Amber indicates sleep mode state. In case the system is able to get to the Windows 7 and is on desktop with icons then it can be an issue with the power button LED. In this case I?ll suggest to remove the power cable of the computer, then hold down the power button of the computer for 15-20 seconds. After that plug in the power source and try to power up the computer. Please check if there is any change in status.
Let me know of the findings, Glad to be of assistance.

As I press the power button, it stays orange and I hear a 1 small beep noise. The computer does not turn anything else and fans are not working. And there is the same color light on the motherboard. When the power button is off there is a green light near the power plug and then it turns off as I turn on the power button.
Before this event, the power button was orange and fans were all working. Next the power button flashed between orange and blue then stops and continues about 3 times. Then it turned off all fans and the power button stays orange. (Both senerios were unable to power the monitor, mouse, and keyboard and does not emit a green light around the ethernet cable.)

Check if you are able to run the LCD BIST .

1.                    Turn the computer off.
2.                    Press and hold the D key while pressing the power button. This will start the Laptop LCD BIST.
3.                    The screen will display multiple flashing colors. Look for lines, distortion, or any other video issues you have observed.

Good question.  I have the same problem with my 4 month old 5559.  The description in the reference guide says "Indicates the power and battery?charge status.  Press Fn+H to toggle this light between hard?drive activity light and battery?status light."  If I press Fn+H, sure enough it shows hard drive activity.    Confession time:  I never saw this in the documentation until I looked it up to reply to your question today!  I never knew I had a disk activity light - man, I'm glad to have found this!  :-)

However, if I unplug the Case Power Connector for Push-button from the motherboard and start the system by shorting the two power pins on the motherboard ....then the system starts normally and the display works.

Hi every one,
Recently I purchased new PC,
After installing windows XP Pro SP3 I found that there is a missing button in Power option properties. The missing button is (When I press the sleep button on my computer), I can find only (When I press the power button on my computer).
My system configuration is as follow
Mother board Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Rev 1.1
My graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 5670
Windows XP SP3
RAM 4Gb Kingston DDRII
CPU Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz
It worth saying that I can shutdown, hibernate or put my PC into sleep mode, so the functions are working but only the button is missing.
I will appreciated very much if some can advise me how to restore the missing button. Is there some option in BIOS that will enable this button?
I contacted Gigabyte customer support, but they directed me to Microsoft, I also contacted ATI but they directed me to Microsoft or BIOS settings. In my BIOS I can't find any option that may affect this button. Any advise will be appreciated
Best regards

A:[SOLVED] Button of (When I press sleep button) is not available in my Power option pr

Does the case actually have a separate Sleep Button? I suspect it's not even connected, as the motherboard manual doesn't show a connection for a Sleep Button, only a Power Button.
Windows Power Options won't list it, as it doesn't exist.

If you have a Sleep Button on the keyboard, it might not be listed in Power Options either. That would be up to the Driver software to add that option. You may have to use the software that came with the keyboard to configure the sleep button on the keyboard.

Hoping someone here can offer some advice? I own a Dell studio xps 435t-9000 that is a couple years old. I recently replaced my harddrive and since then (don't know if it's a coincidence or not) I'm having another problem. After I installed it, the first time my computer went into sleep mode/hibernation I couldn't wake it up. Power light was flashing white. Eventually I shut it down manually and then it wouldn't boot. Had a solid amber light, no power except the power supply. Fans not working. I unplugged everything and made sure it was all good. Wouldn't start. Left it overnight and plugged it in the next morning. Started up. Worked great for about 7 hours and then just randomly shut down, no errors or anything. Same deal. Wouldn't start, amber solid power light. Let it sit for awhile, reseated everything and wouldn't start.Gave up for awhile, tried a few hours later and it started. I read a few boards pointing to the power supply being bad or not powerful enough. However, I replaced the power supply about 6 months ago with a Corsair 600 which is plenty power. Could still be an issue perhaps but seems odd it would die in that little time. I also replaced my graphics card if that matters. Finally the last time I checked all the plugs I also took out the board batter for a few minutes to try and "reset" things. Not sure if that matters, either.

So, I'm at a loss where to go from here. I could replace the power su... Read more

Things I have tried are, re-seat the RAM also CPU, only 1 RAM. And no joy. When I press the power button theres nothing. No lights no leds. When I press the self test button several times, once in a while I see lights and fans working. I tried Memok on motherboard and no joy. One thing I did notice was when I remove the 4 pin CPU cable from PSU, the self test works instantly but the power button still doesnt work. Nothing, also did jumper on power l, reset CMOS. Could this be my CpU fried? Or the motherboard? I still need to take it out from case and check for capacitors etc..

Ok so here's the situation :

my friend's PC suddenly stopped working something like a month ago. He took it to some local computer repair shop who diagnosed a dead mobo and PSU.

They told him his mobo was now impossible to find and since I could get my hands on one fairly easily he asked me to repair it for him.

So basicly I changed his PSU and ordered a new INTEL D865GLC Socket 478 (his mobo)... I just received the damn thing and even with the brand new mobo the PC does the exact same **** :

I press the power button and absolutely nothing happens, nothing! Even the fans stay idle . What could be the cause? I even tried shorting the POWER SW pins with a screwdriver to make sure it wasn't the case Power Button but in vain.

I tried swapping mem sticks, changing PSU, tried removing HDD, DVD drive and GPU... no help there either.

Could it be a dead CPU?

I set my Dell Inspiron laptop (Windows 8) to sleep after 15 minutes (never to hibernate) whether on AC power or battery.
This allows me to take out my laptop from my bag, open the lid, enter my pin and get to work quickly.
One thing that baffles me is that when on AC power, I have to press the power button to "wake" the laptop out of sleep
instead of just pressing a key on the keyboard. The power button is this tiny chicklet metal button that is awkward to press.
Any way to set Windows 8 to wake on keypress when on AC power?

You do not find it in Power Options to change power button from doing it? Only know ways if using an external USB device. Should be a sleep button or one of the F buttons or Fn.

It's not a major issue, granted, but it is still an annoyance that I would rather have fixed. If aynone knows the steps to attempt to remedy this I would be very grateful!
